The Sussex in Brighton and Hove

A fabulous pub in a nice location. We had been to a cricket game in Hove and started our evening afterwards in here. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great selection of non alcoholic beers. Very impressed. Nice outdoor seating area. Really enjoyed few drinks in here.

Everyone here was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. We had already been to a few places that had already stopped serving food or were out of our price range, when we wandered in here. There were smiles, help with the menus (for my 6 year old granddaughter) and husband and I even stayed to play our first British pub quiz! We didn't win, but we weren't the worst either. The food was delicious and we plan on visiting again, next time we're in Brighton!

What a wonderful night we had at the Sussex Quiz night! Great mixed grill (which fed 2) excellent compere and I only won £160 playing: “Play your cards right!”. Great atmosphere too.

I haven’t visited this place for 2 years, always a bad experience!!! Dirty glasses foul mouthed people and miserable staff. We came back from a beach front walk and decided on a couple of cold beers with our friends. What a different place. Good Guinness and smiling staff. Tables were all clean and definitely a different clientele. We even stayed for some bar snacks which were good. Can only assume new management, if so well done, keep it up and I’ll be back 👍

Good food. Reasonable drinks prices. Always feel welcome. Come here frequently to pursue hobbies and am always accommodated. Could do with a refresh but all in all a nice big pub.

Visited on a Saturday evening for some food and we weren't disappointed. Decent selection of drinks including some ales. Good pub food menu - the notorious p.i.g. burger was lovely. Would definitely return when in Hove.

Avoid at all costs. Steak wasn't cooked to liking was well overdone for rare, fries were cold. Childrens pizza was a chicago town microwave one and bar staff was rude when questioned about the food. Safe to say we wont be back

Absolutely lovely barmaid (didn’t get her name but had very cool graphic liner), couldn’t do enough. Cool pub, lots of kids running round but otherwise a calm atmosphere. Went during happy hour and very cheap drinks (by Brighton standards).

Kind and friendly staff, lovely grub, and lovely setting. Exactly what you hope for in a local pub! Prices are reasonable and location is great.

I have become a regular at this pub! Staff are very warm and welcoming. Celina always makes me smile. Lee is always on hand. Pip is wonderful too! Thats just to name a few. We stopped by just before 8pm and asked the bar man if we just grab a table for something to eat. He suggested a quiet area which was lovely. However when we went back to the bar to order just 5 minutes later we were advised that the kitchen had just closed and we couldn’t eat. To top it off, eyes were rolled at me and the same bar man simply said sorry lads, good night… Not really the usual service I would expect from such a well established company? But also shutting a kitchen at 8pm when so many people are literally heading out for dinner seems insane.

Went to the sussex with my dad, and was automatically greeted by friendly staff. Christine was so helpful and made sure we had everything we need. Food was incredible, I had a burger, and my dad had the mega mixed grill, both delicious and definitely hit the spot. Will be coming back for more!

Nice pub just wish children were not allowed to run around &play should be made sit with adults I was in there a few weeks ago there was about 8 children running round all the bars screaming not a member of staff said a word to them.The parents were busy playing cards next thing happened one knocked our table and my large vodka tonic over they did not apologise

No sound on for Football. Chris and danny passed the buck. Blamed one another. Had a disco on which no one attended. They pissed off at least 50 people by doing this. Staff taking drinks half full. Not good

One of our favourite places for lunch or just drinks. Great food at reasonable prices. Some of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially Lola, who always makes us smile.
