Terrible. Rude owner. Don’t go to this cafe. Am local had horrific upsetting and costly experience with the manager or god forbid owner! Ironically all the other staff members most of them young women lovely.

Frukost, lunch och fika. Kaffe, te och smoothies. Valde en sallad, bacon och tomat Bun, där de bytte ut bun mot glutenfritt bröd. Kunniga kring celiaki!

I met with a friend for coffee, as his partner was having tests in hospital. Decided to have breakfast, which was vastly overpriced for what it was. We were encouraged to add a side to poached eggs on toast, which took the £7.50 price to over £10. I took my elderly dog Max, and I asked if dogs were OK, which they were. He sat on my lap, and was very well behaved. As he has had major surgery on his neck which means he is unable to drink from a dog bowl, I put some water in a glass, and he drank from that. However the over zealous manager Kelly, came over to tell me off for allowing my dog to drink out of a ‘human glass’! I wasn’t aware that glasses were ‘human’ glasses. I would assume that irrespective of who drinks out of them, they would be thoroughly cleaned. I therefore could not see any harm in letting Max drink out of a glass. Kelly was very patronising and condescending, and wanted to make sure that when I wrote my review, that I mentioned the fact that Max drank out of a ‘human glass’! I would put my dog before any humans any day, because they love you unconditionally and ‘don’t’ judge. Having read other reviews regarding this cafe, you can definitely find a much better, cheaper, dog friendly cafe. 1st and last time. A recommendation for the owner of Egg and Spoon, hire a more personable manager, that doesn’t drive your customers away.

Stayed in a nearby hotel that didn’t offer breakfast, so came here instead and really glad to have found it. Bright and buzzy cafe, I enjoyed scrambled tofu while my colleague had the fancy pants porridge. Massive cappuccinos to set us up for the day too. Friendly service and reasonably priced, we enjoyed it so much that we went back the following day.

Via ons hotel in Brighton kwamen we voor een ontbijt terecht bij dit gezellige café. In het weekend is er een ander menu dan doordeweeks, dus er was genoeg voor ons te kiezen tijdens ons driedaags verblijf. De egg Royale was heerlijk, maar de Rarebit, die je niet zo vaak als een ontbijtgerecht tegenkomt was helemaal top. En de koffie was uitstekend.

This cafe is amazing !! We went in for breakfast and the staff are so friendly and accommodating . Me and my friend has dietary considerations, and they were really great . Also all their cakes are home made with lots of diary free cakes .

Had breakfast takeaway here 2 days as we were staying in a hotel nearby. My partner had the bacon egg and sausage both days and said it was quite greasy more than is nice but pleasant. We had the purple smoothie one day and there was just no flavour it felt very watery and a huge lack of fruit. I’m a vegetarian so the first day I had the halloumi sandwich, it was okay. I think the pesto plus halloumi made it greasy and it did not sit well. The second day I had the chilli eggs, unfortunately I couldn’t eat this. The salsa had completed soaked into the bread so as soon as I picked it up it was wet and soggy. The eggs were also soggy and had no chilli flavour. The worst part is the 2 breakfasts over 2 days cost nearly £60. It’s an extortionate amount of money for a sandwich. Vegetarian sandwiches don’t need to be fancy, a similar sandwich to the meat sandwich would have been fine fried egg and veggie sausage. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

Enjoyed a wonderful brunch with my daughter and her friends. We enjoyed Cuban, BLT and halloumi filled brioche buns and scrambled egg & salmon on toast. Delicious. Great service. Thank you for looking after us and will be back.

Had breakfast here 1 morning of our stay, it was so tasty. Eggs were cooked just perfectly (hard to get sometimes) There was such a nice chilled atmosphere here to start the day, definitely worth a visit

Nous voulions prendre un full English breakfast. L’endroit est sympathique et le serveur également. Par contre, tout est en option ce qui a très vite fait monter la note. 2£ pour les haricots, 2£ pour les tomates…. De plus, ils ajoutent 10/100 pour le service. Ce qui fait que ça a été notre repas le plus cher de notre séjour.

We had three really good breakfasts here. . Note however that this place becomes very busy so the wait for food - which is all freshly cooked - may be longer than expected. Perhaps the best flat white we've ever had. Porridge and rarebit both excellent. Prices very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Stumbled across this amazing cafe when scoping out the area. I have recently relocated for work. This cafe is super nice and welcoming. We had the Fishfinger sandwich and hashbrown and it honestly was the nicest thing I have eaten in a very long time. The whole experience was amazing and I will definitely be eating here again!!

Nice food but expensive. Most definitely fits into the ‘artisan’ categories of cafe rather than a greasy spoon/fry-up kind of place, if this is what you like you would be disappointed. Bacon brioche with rocket & onion jam is delicious. Porridge with its different topping options is always good too If piggy bits aren’t your thing there are plenty of Vegan/veggie stuff to try too.

Lovely staff, breakfast of good quality but charging £1 for an extra slice of bread, £2.50 for every additional ingredients which is supposed to be on an English breakfast starting from £6.50 for eggs on toasts sums up to a very expensive breakfast! Would not come back.

This is a lovely friendly café, was really nice food and drinks and the staff are super welcoming. However, we visited on a cold day and it was kind of chilly and couldn't see any heaters apart from one over the door. A lot of restaurants at the moment are saving money by not having heating, and while the staff are nice and warm, being busy, the customers sometimes get a bit freezing!

The food in this cafe was absolutely delicious. We chose a breakfast made up of elements of our choice. It tasted beautiful and was presented so well. What an amazing chef, please don't ever stop doing what you are doing so well. We will return at our soonest opportunity when next visiting Kemptown.

Un petit déjeuner 100 % anglais. Carte au début un peu déstabilisante en raison parfois des mélanges proposés gateau citron courgette. Mais au résultat tout était très bon. Il serait bien pour les touristes de passage d'avoir dans la carte une offre claire avec des combinaisons sucrées. Mais je recommande cet établissement.

A really nice little place with a good menu and lovely staff. Good coffee too, which can be a quest to find in Brighton due to the numerous options. This is my new go to for a place in Kemp Town.

Our first time in Brighton, staying in Kemp Town. Found this this gem of a place by googling local cafes. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Young man making the coffees was super busy, but still made time to make you feel most welcome and can make the most delicious flat Whites. Here's the shout out to the Chef. My eggs Royale were the best I've ever tasted. The poached eggs were perfection. The salmon is cured on their premises, muffin made by themselves fresh everyday. I had a sausage and homemade hash brown as extra, as I saw it on someone else's plate and they looked delicious. Gosh I'm glad I did. You can taste the quality of their produce, their coffee and the exceptional standard of their chef to serve such delicious food, presented beautifully I such a busy environment. No wonder they had people waiting to be seated. I highly, highly reccomend Egg and Spoon.

My favourite spot in Kemptown this, for excellent coffee and great food made with love. The cakes especially are out of this world, and the staff are super-friendly. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Awful service with rude staff. Daughter got food poisoning and I found a greasy hair in the food. Staff wasn't pleasant so I didn't feel I could mention it. Won't be going back ever again.

We had delicious smoothies, and spicy scrambled eggs served with a fresh tomato salsa in a brioche bun. Everything was delicious, the staff were absolutely charming, and the prices were fair (£3.80 for a smoothie versus £7 in Joe and the Juice). So so good....

If you crave a decent breakfast of your choice. Porridge, sourdough, local bacon and eggs, great avocado, then this is your place. The owner and staff are lovely and the food and drinks excellent. Fresh, local and delicious.

Food was ‘ok’ but mean portion of toast. Ordered poached eggs on sour dough and the eggs were bigger than the slice of toast it balanced on. Shame that they are so mean with servings. Wouldn’t eat there again.

Great place for breakfast in Brighton. Maybe not a massive bargain but egg on sourdough toast was truly delicious - as were muffin and coffee. Slightly wider range of sweet treats might be nice (offerings tended to be savoury - lacking in pastries, for example)...

We visited this restaurant 3 times during our week in Brighton. The coffee was excellent, and the breakfasts were wonderful. It is a very friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.

As a local resident I often pop in for a Saturday breakfast. Nice back bacon (horrid baked beans avoid! They even warn you about them). Relaxed atmosphere, free WiFi . Sometimes a long wait.

Almorcé en Egg & Spoon y fue absolutamente delicioso, una tarta con una selección de 3 ensaladas, que me pareció muy buena relación calidad-precio en 6. 15 para comer. Todo muy bien hecho en casa. Huevo y cuchara obtendría 5 estrellas de mí. . Pero aquí está el PERO, el baño está atrozmente sucio. Tengo una mascota que odia a los cafés que se ven bonitos, bonitos y limpios, y luego el inodoro está muy sucio. Como, no quiero usarlo sucio, es sucio y parece descuidado, ¿es esto higiénico? Normalmente no soy tan quisquilloso, pero como digo, esto es un odio de mascotas. Si usted es el propietario, por favor, por favor, reformar su baño, es repugnante. (¡lo siento! )

Popped in as a local resident for a peaceful Saturday breakfast. Service ok-never know why the chef thinks it’s nice to drizzle oil as decor on the plate though.

Placed an order at 13.06. Other people are being served- my friend tea hasn’t arrived. At 13.29- he politely asks staff for his tea. Tea finally arrives.( We are on hour lunch break). Member of staff asks my to squeeze in closer to my table as she has to pass to clean other table( I’m already squeezed as people sit on eachother to maximise space- being hit by someone’s bagpack later)- other way is available. 13.42 my friend food arrives and other people arriving long after us also being served. Staff puts plate of food on the bar- after few attempts to get attention- maybe it’s my food?- my plate arrives!! Staff says they didn’t take order number?? Spoon with my order number still on my table- nr 2.....

We stopped by for a mid morning brunch. My son had the Texican sandwich which he really enjoyed and due to its size struggled to finish. He ordered fries with it, which didn't come out until he had finished the sandwich. It didn't bother us but might have upset some.

What was supposed to be a relaxing treat also marred by a table of other customers who were property developers using it as a mobile office( computers out) loudly arguing with their contractor holding him to account over window supplies. Egg & Spoon forms part of a cluster of cafes - five by my count, or six if you include the Real Patisserie which also does coffee - on a small section of St Georges Rd. The number of cafes makes you wonder whether those folk in Kemp Town have too much time on their hands - they obviously don't have proper jobs working 10 hour shifts down mines or in call centres like us ordinary people.

Recientemente visité esto en un viaje de un día a Brighton. Está a unos 30 minutos a pie de la estación de Brighton. Realmente decepcionado en la comida aquí. Cada uno de nuestros huevos escalfados se cocinó con poco o nada de yema. La salsa holandesa fue realmente una degustación de mayo. La carne no salió caliente. Rostizado tostado. El personal no era amable y creo que el lugar está sobrevalorado. Hay muchos lugares más cerca de la estación de tren que hubiera preferido.

Para ser honestos, queríamos un desayuno cocinado estándar, pero nos presentaron una especie de versión artística del clásico motor de arranque para el día, ¡aunque nos dimos cuenta de que el lugar parecía ser administrado por estudiantes o algo parecido!

Mi piace molto visitare questo locale per una colazione abbondante o brunch... Molta scelta, anche per vegetariani. Prodotti molto buoni e porzioni abbondanti.

Beautiful cafe, with lovely people, which feels like a family. Food is delicious. Spacious. Always a pleasure to go back time and again. I've moved away from Brighton, and this cafe is one of the things I miss most!

My wife and I stopped by for a small meal and hade the texican hot sandwich. . The French fries was perfect and the sandwich was just the right mixture of crispy but not to dry. 5 out of 5 from us.

Visitamos aquí con amigos y disfrutamos de nuestro desayuno tanto que volvimos a la mañana siguiente también! El personal es amable y acogedor, no nos sentimos presionados o nos habíamos quedado dormidos mientras disfrutábamos tranquilamente de nuestro brekkie. El bap de desayuno era mi favorito, aguacate y huevos en pan tostado también particularmente bueno. Si alguna vez vuelvo a Brighton, sin duda volveré.

I just love a bacon bap and this was definitely the place. Over from the States with Grandchildren they wanted waffles and The Egg and Spoon definitey delivers, they inhaled their breakfast! Friendly and helpful staff, we were there several days in a row.

Went here with a friend a while back, not at all impressed with the service. We had a buggy and a very quite baby. We were made to feel in the way, due to us sitting at he front to make room for the buggy. I found the staff rude and incredibly unaccomodating. One of them tutted would you believe. Leaving my shy freind red faced. Food was good, i’d say the coffee was mediocre and luke warm, but ultimately the staff ruined it for me. And it’s a shame, cause I was new to Kemp town at the time and had heard marvellous things. Good job there’s plenty of other friendlier establishments in the area that have received my business ever since. Maybe I caught them on a bad day, but first impressions count.

Called in here for some brunch before taking the City Sightseeing bus tour, came by it whilst walking around Kemptown for a browse. Really lovely, laid back atmosphere with true, honest good food that is sensibly priced. Hubby went for their English breakfast and I had waffles with Berry compote & mascarpone cream.......DELICIOUS......great staff too....go try it out .

Eggs on toast are nice. Good coffee. The bacon can be greasy in bancon sandwich and the baked beans just horrid. Relaxed atmosphere- but nobody doesask if the food is ok- some of the vegan cakes not pleasant

We popped in here as visitors to Brighton and it was SO delicious, we had a veggie breakfast and a normal breakfast and they were scrumptious. The coffee was also really good. I saw all the waffles coming out for other customers which looked great too.

Loved my breakfast! Proper chefs, quality local ingredients. Oj is freshly squeezed and baked beans were home made. Can’t wait to come back.

Nos topamos con este lugar después de tripadvisor nos dirigió a ir al restaurante el punto sobre la brújula carretera pero me pareció cerrado sin ninguna razón aparente, y vaya que nos alegramos de que vine aquí! Un pequeño y acogedor café restaurante de estilo. La comida era deliciosa y parecía que algunas tardan en algunos clásicos británicos en el menú. Al final optamos por 'El escocés, que era tan sabroso. El zumo de naranja recién exprimido y era la señora dijo que el café estaba delicioso. Quizás este es un secreto muy bien guardado en Brighton, pero la gente debería sin duda diríjase aquí para el brunch!

We hadn't previously visited this café. They served us freshly cooked breakfasts on gorgeous toasted soda bread. (There was none of the rigidity encountered elsewhere of "it's gone past our midday cut-off time!!). The owner/staff were all friendly and efficient, and the place had a warm/relaxed atmosphere.

This was a cosy cafe however there was too much vinegar in the eggs and hollandaise sauce and the sausages were terrible. My friends coffee was bitter and the chai late didn't have enough foam ontop.

Todo era increíble. Completamente sin gluten amable para mi pareja y para mí las galletas eran increíbles y el chorizo asado en masa fermentada con tomate estaba muy rico y maravilloso. El servicio también era cálido y acogedor.

Tenía un desayuno encantador, mi gofre estaba ace, el té también era genial. Mi esposa tenía un delicioso sándwich de salchicha en pan fermentado y realmente disfruté de su café moca y té. El personal era un poco placid pero nos dio abundante sonrisas cuando...

We had breakfast her for the first time, we both ordered the full English. The menu sounded interesting, what with the homemade baked beans, field mushroom, bacon, fried egg etc. My flat white coffee I'd ordered to accompany my meal was only slightly warm even though I'd asked for the steamed milk to be extra hot. The breakfasts arrived - quite a small portion (which is fine as long as the quality was good), the baked-beans were served in a ramekin, the sausage was blond and hardly cooked, the fried egg was overcooked and small, the field mushroom looked excellent and the bacon looked good. I dipped my fork into the beans and tried a scoop, they were nuclear hot which instantly scalded the roof of my mouth and tongue. When they had cooled down I tried them again, bland, unseasoned and tasting of cinnamon (which I hate). Overall quite disappointing, especially as no one asked us whether our food was okay.

Staff werent overly welcoming and seemed quite eager to clear my table and get me on my way. Food though was of good quality.

Stumbled across this place accidentally and had an incredible breakfast. The butter milk waffles were perfect and the eggs benedict which my wife ordered were spot on. Great coffee too and very reasonable prices. It's great to find a great independent business of this standard!

Visited here for a Monday morning breakfast. Could have been a better experience if they hadn't run out of so many things, including gluten free bread (one of the reasons we chose here as well.)What we did have was nice and the bagels and sandwiches on display looked amazing.It's quite a small place inside, we were lucky to get a table.Gonna have to go back to try one of those sandwiches!

We've been here for a quick lunch, we had two vegetarian sandwiches that was absolutely gorgeous in taste and in choice of ingredients (aubergines, herbed feta, white beans, garlic, sesame, rocket and harissa). Delicious! The coffee was good too. Price reasonable, and staff very kind.

We've been going here since it opened. The coffee is great and the food is brilliant. Particularly the waffles - effectively waffle shaped pancakes, dusted in icing and accompanied by maple syrup and candy-like streaky bacon. The breakfasts are possibly the best in Brighton, with sausages from Bramptons, the local butcher a few doors down. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We always recommend E&S to people visitng kemptown, and go here regularly ourselves (weekends etc). It gets quite busy at times but that's simply a testament to how great it is.

I often go to Egg and Spoon for brunch with my other half, the best hangover cure breakfast with friends from out of town and lunch for my business meetings. The staff are very welcoming, the menu is varied and has something for everyone. I love the fact I can build my own breakfast! There is something for everyone. So lucky to have this on my doorstep! Can't wait for lunch there when we return from honeymoon! Xx

It can get very busy and I don't think you can reserve tables - often the larger tables are shared with a couple of groups. The food is delicious, as is the coffee. They have lots of choices and a large selection of sides too. Reasonable prices, but coffees are fairly small.

Service was great and very helpful. They had great gluten-free options for my partner and the food was excellent - I highly recommend the waffles! A+

I visited with my brother for on a Sunday for breakfast and it was beautiful. The service is very good. We had English breakfast and egg hollandaise with coffee and home made lemonade. They use Proper sausages and bacon. Home made beans which we loved, the bread was not out of packaging it was from the local French bakery. I also added avocados to my breakfast, the ham for the egg hollandaise was so beautiful. You can get fresh home made cookies. Homemade sausage rolls.Also the have beautiful vegetarian options and vegan breakfasts. I have never had launch there but I will try the best chance I get! The place has been decorated so tastefully and it looks trendy. Beautiful illustrations on the walls that you can purchase. All and all a very lovely place to eat.

Both service & food leave a lot to be desired I'm afraid. My friends full breakfast arrived with congealed baked beans ( possibly microwaved), which tasted of cheap bbq sauce..the sausage was also poor quality..it was sent back & the beans were replaced & in a side dish, nevertheless still below average quality! My avocado with poached egg was absolutely tasteless. Young staff lacked training, although were polite. Cleanliness 'below stairs' in loo & adjoining area definitely not up to scratch....which leads me to question food hygiene in kitchen, both my friend I myself spent the evening at our respective homes with severe stomach upsets. Never again!

Having read some good reviews about Egg & Spoon, we decided to eat breakfast here today. Nice, small cage serving a variety of hot & cold beverages & a nice breakfast / brunch menu.I ordered egg & avocado on sour dough with chilli & lemon, my partner ordered the Scot (black pudding bacon egg mayo spicy ketchupIn a floury bap with optional side of chips). The coffee was nice & service was good. We didn't have to wait long for our food. My partner's breakfast looked amazing - a huge plate of food. Mine looking decidedly mediocre - just 2 slices of sourdough spread thickly with mashed avocado, one poached egg & a sprig of rocket to garnish. No points for presentation. 2 coffees & 2 breakfasts cost £16. Not a bad breakfast, but not a great one either.Sadly mediocre.Will we return? probably not as there is so much choice for breakfast in Kemptown.

This place serves the most amazing breakfast sandwiches and I've always found the staff and environment very pleasant. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

We had breakfast there this morning and were really disappointed by the fact that our eggs were all over cooked. Kind of a joke for a place called Egg and Spoon. You'd expect them to be cooked to perfection. The rest of the food was good though I wouldn't recommend the waffles. Other down side, the staff isn't very friendly : practically threw our drinks at us and they make no efforts for children -other than having a high chair- so not really a place to go with kids. Still gets a 3/5 though as it has a nice atmosphère and the food was pretty good and if you like your eggs overcooked, then this may just be the place for you.
