Lovely village pub. Lots of atmosphere. We dropped in for an evening meal. The staff were a delight. We both had sausage and mash which was very good and reasonably priced. There was a quiz going on which added to the ambience. They do need to have a wine list, especially as there’s a board outside saying, “beautiful wines!”

Friendly relaxed cafe with yummy cafe food and brilliant cakes. The coffee is really good and the hot drinks always properly hot! The staff are wonderful, it’s a relaxed atmosphere and there is a fair bit of room around tables for a buggy or two. My favourite is the quiche with salad and chips - so good.

Lovely place full of friendly atmosphere + pet friendly. Would recommend an occasional or regular visit without any hesitation.

We visited The Boot for some small bites for lunch, and we were not disappointed. We ordered some bar snacks and they were absolutely beautiful, the calamari was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the pork belly had lots of meat which is a surprise as most places just have pork belly which consists of mainly fat! The inside is beautifully done, giving a lovely pub feel. We will definitely be back!

Perfect, faultless. Thoroughly enjoyable. Warm welcome, comfortable luxurious rooms, delicious food, great swimming pool and spa, fabulous atmosphere, steeped in history and in 90 acres of beautiful countryside. Plus the profits go to the National Trust. What’s to fault? They even avoid having plastic UHT milk cartons (a fault of many top hotels).

Staff are friendly and reasonably attentive and the food was very good overall. We sat outside and the atmosphere was very nice and laid back. One general problem I had with the food was that they tend to add too much salt. The bread was good in terms of overall taste, but it had too much salt, and they also seemed to serve salted butter. Same with the main dishes and starters. I had the haddock as a starter and the steak as a main - it was good (quality-wise) but had too much salt. It is better to salt too little than too much. Having said that, the pricing is acceptable for a Michelin-starred restaurant. If it is their goal to reach a second Michelin Star, they will have to up their game, though. I might be back one day for the tasting menu, but not sure yet.
