This is a traditional pub in many ways. It does have a bar/pub area with a hearth, a completely separate dining room also with a hearth, a separate nice covered patio, and a large outdoor area with play area for kids. I always enjoy coming here. The Sunday roast is very good and reasonably priced. Cannot complain and highly recommend a visit. The staff are always very welcoming.

I have been to the Three Horseshoes for drinks. and always found it pleasant. Today my wife and I made a reservation for Sunday roast. My beef was perfect. My wife says the same for the lamb. The vegetables were excellent as well. The Yorkshire pudding was particularly good. The wine was excellent and very reasonably priced. I look forward to coming back often.

Cheddington is blessed with two excellent pubs, each a little different. This is the smaller of the two and is the cosier for it, stone flagged floors, open fire, excellent ale and food and a welcome from the staff. It’s everything you think of when you think of a small country pub and it’s well worth finding.

Back again to this wonderful country pub. Tradionally old fashioned, log fires burning - bliss. Three roast dinners, one nut roast, one child's dinner. All plates scraped clean. Then dessert. Yummy! Clean surroundings, nice decor. Friendly, helpful staff. Very reasonably priced food. Car park.

Revisited this charming pub and had a thoroughly tasty meal. My wife had a vegetarian curry with pilau rice, mini popadoms and mango chutney with she enjoyed. I had a huge ploughmans lunch. Then we finished the meal with traditional dessert. Yum. Good menu, reasonable prices. Specials board. Roaring log fire. Olde worlde charm. Friendly hosts. Very clean, nice decor. Large car park.

Quaint pub in the countryside. Full of character and local history. Returned to sample the new vegetarian food on the menu. My wife had 'Mike's Bad Boy Burger' (vegetarian, spicy, orientally inspired) and was delighted with it. I opted for lamb and mushroom Rogan Josh off the specials board which was equally tasty. Both were reasonably priced. Clean and nice decor. Friendly staff. Beer garden with children's play area. Car park.

Had the misfortune to have to get off my train at Cheddington due to a blockage on the railway line, so I found this pub on my phone and walked it. I was very pleased to have visited such a warm and cozy pub, initially fairly quiet with a few friendly and chatty locals in it. Gradually the pub got busier as more stranded passengers found their way there. I arranged to be picked up, and in the meantime had a pleasant beer or two by the fire... We must return one day when they are serving food!

It has a saloon and public bar. Neither are very big, but the atmosphere is friendly. We had the Sunday roast in the public bar. It is popular, so you need to book early. The food was excellent, good value and with a good guest beer on tap. The pub wasn't that warm initially, but improved when the heating came on. It was a shame that the fire wasn't lit as it was a chilly day and would have added to the ambience of the place. The garden is a good size, although it was not the weather for this when we visited. The staff and locals are friendly and overall, this pub is well worth a visit. I'd be happy to go there regularly if it was my local.

Went with a group of 6 including two young children. In the round it was a good experience and the children enjoyed the well equipped and safe play area.Food service was quite quick on what was a busy day.Food quality was good. The downside is that although at time of booking I explained I needed gluten free the food choice was very limited and I was told that none of the desserts was suitable and no alternative was offered. As you might expect that because I was not able to enjoy a dessert others politely declined to order and we left.So the potential to sell 6 desserts was lost? From a purely commercial point of view restaurants need to realise that the failure to offer gluten free results not only in the loss of custom to those requiring gluten free option but the entire group they are with.I should add that I felt confident that the food I was served was perfectly okay for me and that the staff understood what was, and was not gluten free.

Judging by the good reviews, our visit must have been an off day as we gather the owners were away. We arrived as two families today at lunchtime one of which got served food and the other shortly after was told they couldn't order food as they hadn't pre booked. We had sat down with our food and now our other friends could eat with us! After complaining, they finally managed to order some food from an older woman on the bar who seemed hacked off she had to take another order, and was quite short with our friends to be honest.A group of cyclists were also turned away..as they had not pre booked. What a weird pub.Shame as the food was reasonable.

We had looked for a convenient place between Gerrard’s Cross and Northampton where we could entertain our friends to lunch. We found the Three Horseshoes on-line and it had good reviews. On arrival it was friendly and welcoming, but very small and cosy, ideal for a village pub. Even though it was a weekday, the saloon bar soon became very busy, and noisy, and it was quite difficult to hear our conversation. In retrospect, it would have been better to have gone into the Lounge Bar which was very much quieter but which we had not seen on entering the pub. For us, it was not quite the right place to entertain our guests but it really works well as a friendly village pub.

The Three Horseshoes is genuinely remarkable, a tiny pub with a big heart. We had booked a table for Sunday lunch, without which the only available seats were at outside tables. The limited space indoors has to accommodate diners, drinkers, domino players and when the footie is on fervent fans. This makes for a vibrant atmosphere, if you are looking for a quiet meal with moments of reflection forget it. If you are after laughter and a proper village pub serving astonishingly good grub look no further. The cooking was of the highest quality, squid starters (always a tester) that just couldn't have been bettered and excellent options for Sunday roast or a less traditional stir fry. It seems scarcely credible that a pub with so few covers offers such amazing food but it simply does. Wonderful.

Having been staying in Ivinghoe for a few weeks whilst doing some work in nearby Pitstone, I've been fortunate enough to be able to eat and drink at the Three Horseshoes several times recently. I have to say that this charming, friendly little village watering-hole is the best pub I have visited in many years. The beer is kept perfectly - choice of Bombardier or Golden Hen, and the homemade food is amongst the best I've ever had in any pub, anywhere. My favourite on the regular menu is the Beef and Guinness pudding, but there are also "specials" available frequently, which are equally delicious. If I had a pub like this near where I live in Monmouthshire I'd be divorced and bankrupt.

Fabulous little pub, serving delicious food way over and above the normal in terms of choice, quality and value. Always some unusual and beautifully presented "specials" on offer. However, for anyone who wants more traditional pub grub, the ham, egg & chips is superb - oh! and don't miss steak night. It pays to book a table if you want to eat in the little "snug", as table spaces are limited, but the downstairs bar is more spacious if not as intimate.

We are quite demanding customers and eat out regularly in different areas of the country as you can see from other reviews. What we require is great food for great value whether it be a £10 takeaway or a £100 meal. What you get at the Three Horseshoes is very high quality, home-cooked food at sensible prices, served with efficiency and friendliness- also with great beer and good wine at sensible prices again. There is a standard menu which has homemade pies and puddings, pizzas, light dishes such as bubble and squeak with egg hollandaise, homemade pate and toast, etc etc and there are almost always interesting Specials too. What is not be delighted with in that? Ignore the stupid reviewer earlier who complained about it being categorised on here as a restaurant- it is clearly a pub with great pub food, no mass produdced tasteless rubbish here. We have eaten here many times, brought friends here, had celebrations here and often choose to eat here rather than go further afield for "smarter" food. If you want tasty, well priced food, a pint and a warm welcome- this is for you.

As you walk into the "Shoes" you are struck by it being traditional, "old fashioned" and certainly not trendy. But, and this is it's strength. From the Landlady down, all the staff are very welcoming. This is a classic village pub which also happens to serve wholesome food very well. The beers and the range of wines on offer are excellent. The food is varied and freshly prepared and ranges from the traditional English ( Carved Ham, Egg & chips or Sausages & Mash) to some very imaginative specials from the blackboard. Various themed nights happen occasionally and there is a regular - monthly - Steak night, which is always well attended. The meat is locally sourced from a quality supplier. We came across this little gem when out for a walk in Wendover. Although the outside seating allocation was full due to the lovely weather, we easily found a spot inside. We both ordered the large breakfast, which arrived promptly. For the price, you got a very good portion. The black pudding was very tasty, the hash browns were perfectly crispy, the bacon was meaty with a nice margin of fat for flavour; also, perfectly cooked eggs, well cooked sausages etc. The food was piping hot too. Our only criticism would be the use of semi-skimmed milk. Recent studies show that full-fat dairy products are protective against diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Large numbers of people and cafes are switching back to whole milk. I recommend you use whole milk too for health and flavour reasons, as it makes coffee etc. taste much creamier and you need less of it!

Set in beautiful grounds, Hartwell House is a unique hotel. Steeped in history we felt as if we had stepped into a Jane Austin novel. The house is beautifully restored and filled with antiquities. We loved being able to relax in its library after dinner. The spa is in a separate building and quite fabulous with a good sized pool with jacuzzi. The views from our 2nd floor bedroom were stunning and our room extremely spacious, even though it was not one of their premium rooms. We had afternoon tea and dinner and both were served with attention to detail and with elegant silver service. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The service we experienced was friendly and professional. We felt very well looked after.
