Food was like being in an episode of MasterChef. Room with more character than a lovingly hand drawn cozy cottage in a Disney cartoon. True highlight was the gentleman who run it. A genuine warmth and hospitality like visiting a favourite uncle. Hope to be back soon!

Before writing this review I emailed the restaurant twice ! I am still yet to receive a reply, which to me speaks volumes. My friend and I went for dinner. The starter was nice the main had what I am assuming was meat wrapping in it. I’m visually impaired and could not see it until it was too late! Thank fully I spat it out and didn’t choke!. The service was not good in fact nearly non existent . We were not asked if we wanted another drink or how our meal was. This used to be an amazing restaurant what happened? The prices you charge there should be no faults.

Had my husband’s Celebration of Life. Had over 100 family and friends attend. Trevor organised everything from menus for the Celebration to dinner for those staying in the evening. Delicious vegan (me), veggie and meat & fish options & tasty puddings too. A tricky day for me but a perfect way to celebrate a life well lived. Thank you to everyone at The Angel.

Superb food. Excellent ingredients. Well prepared and full of complex flavours. Menu has a varied selection to suit a wide variety of tastes. Service is relaxed and friendly. The premises have a comfortable homey feel. A step up from most restaurants in the area.

The dining experience was unreel. From the waitress that was super nice to the food that was exceptional. The dishes are really well put together, cooked to perfection and taste like heaven! The sticky toffee pudding is so something out of a fairytale.

A charming old inn with rooms in Long Crendon. Serving delicious evening meals Wed - Sun. The owner and chef Trevor greets you on arrival with a warm smile. The age of the property means there's barely a right angle or a straight line in the place that adds the overall charm. The food is well presented and cooked and has a comprehensive wine list to choose from. I had Thai prawn risotto to start, and my partner had cheese souffle. Was followed by a delicious pork 3 ways dish and tasty steak. We shared the cheese platter with a couple of dessert wines to wash it all down. Great place to stop over or to spend a few days exploring the countryside and its towns.

We only had 2 nights at this venue as we were in the area for a wedding. This is a fantastic place to stay for friendly high standards. Full of character without a straight line in the place! The hosts & staff were superb, with a warm welcome, the room & en suite were clean & comfortable. The homemade cinnamon shortbread was very moreish. We would definitely recommend this establishment if looking for a hotel in this area. We had both dinner & breakfast & found both to be superb, freshly cooked, tasty & making a few changes to the dishes due to food preferences was no problem for the chef. Only word of warning is, due to the age of the building, there's a number of very low doorways. No problem for me but my 6 foot husband had to remember to duck! Highly recommended as a place to dine and to stay, we won't be looking elsewhere of staying in the area again.

Excellent food, friendly staff and a really enjoyable evening

Returned to this establishment for the first time since lockdown last evening. Everything was as before excellent food friendly welcome and a place that never disappoints. Booked a family party to return in two weeks for Saturday night dinner.

We stayed for three nights. From a warm welcome to the attentive service at breakfast and dinner we had a thoroughly lovely time. The room was lovely, and scrupulosely clean; the menu imaginitively planned, beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Certainly one to return to.

We have known this place for over 25 years and are keen to have our wedding party there. Trevor and his staff have been fantastic throughout from the very first moment we started planning. On the day of the wedding we were greeted and pampered. Two of our guests had serious allergy problems and they were very impressed by the staff's attention to them. With Trevor we decided a menu that guests could choose from, and each guest was impressed. All food was delicious. We can be happy and we carry with us beautiful memories of this day at the Angel

Beautifully presented meals full of flavour. Recommend excellent, light and fluffy soufflé. Mains and deserts also amazing.

What an amazing little gem, fabulous surroundings, great welcome, super comfy room & and facilities, but the best bit was most definitely the spectacular food. This is absolutely a place you need to go & stay at, a really special treat.

Stayed 1 night for business trip, got to hotel late and had a warm welcome. Showed me my room then cooked my meal which was fantastic. Breakfast was to a high standards and couldn’t do enough to make sure everything was ok. Would highly recommend and will be returned in the future.

Awful, awful customer service - avoid if you want to book an event. After booking an event here I spent months trying to organise, but they failed to respond despite chasing over and over. In the end, after four months of repeated chasing, I gave up, to significant emotional stress and financial cost. We received no apology from The Angel.

We had my 70th birthday meal here. Just 12 friends and family and 2 small granddaughters. Everyone loved it, everyone said the food was fantastic, and I had some fussy guests. Very friendly and relaxed

We held our Christmas 'do' at The Angel and weren't disappointed. The chef did an amazing job to lay on a varied menu for us all. The front of house staff were attentive and very patient with us all! Thanks guys

Food very good BUT the whole experience was terrible as we were embarrassed by the horrendous service. Us and our friends have never had anything so bad! Bill was £250. I spoke to the owner the following week & he offered us a complimentary meal for 4 people. I then asked via email what was included and now despite several other emails there has been no reply. I ended up asking for a refund but guess what - no reply. I would never go there again as the service is awful and no further correspondence which is very rude.

We have now been visiting The Angel on-and-off for 25 years and have never been disappointed. Tonight was possibly the best yet. The Thai spiced king prawn risotto starter was superb, the stone bass, duo of pork and lamb mains were all delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. Finished off with the rightfully famous sticky toffee pudding and apple strudel. Our friends from Oxford had not been before but will be back, as will we.

Made a visit to The Angel after establishing that it was once again a restaurant post Covid. The reservation system is a little outdated as there's no contact number and communication is only by email. On this visit the food was very good but not outstanding. It would have been a pleasant experience but for the atmosphere inside the place, deathly quiet. What service we received was fine, quite friendly when in operation but attracting attention was a challenge. Our orders taken, our food delivered but no casual visit to ask if things were ok or to see if we needed anything. This isn't helped by the fact that diners are seated in different rooms within the building but bearing this in mind perhaps the staff should make an effort to move around restaurant to check in with diners more frequently. Overall the experience was pleasant, the food good, the deserts superb, however for the price we paid I would choose a more relaxing and warm dining experience, available at other high quality restaurants in the area, in favour of The Angel.

We had a lovely couples meal, with the most extensive vegetarian menu I've seen. 5 choices to choose from, for a vegetarian to have a choice is rare. Fresh, wonderful produce, hot and well presented. Excellent value for money.

We had previously eaten at The Angel and had a lovely experience, so decided to go again. The food once again was really lovely, but the service was not great. Everyone was polite but attention to detail was definitely missing. The young team seemed to spend most of the evening chatting behind the bar oblivious to the existence of the diners, so if you wanted service, you had to either approach them or shout over to them. At no point did anyone come and ask if everything was okay with our food, which surely is standard practice in a restaurant? At one point I accidentally knocked over my glass. The broken glass was removed and a new one offered, but the smaller broken fragments and liquid remained on the table and floor until we requested for it to be cleared up. Then my husband found a few hairs in his dessert. They did apologise and brought over a new one, but we were disappointed that there was no courtesy offer to remove this from the bill. The Angel is such a nice restaurant, it's a shame that the service on this occasion let it down.

Excellent service, excellent food.

We had a one night stay at the Angel and found it first class. Trevor and his staff are very friendly, helpful and very professional in a relaxed way. Our room was very comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. Dinner at the Angel was excellent - Trevor is a very good chef, there is a really interesting and varied menu, and our meals were perfectly cooked. Similarly, breakfast offered something for everyone and was the perfect start to the day. Highly recommended.

We stayed for two nights. We were made extremely welcome and the room was lovely. Had everything it needed, and a fan had been provided to help with the heat. Breakfasts were amazing! Really lovely full English, including black pudding. We also ate in the restaurant one night. Menu choice is really varied, and our food was excellent. Great service and was lovely to eat outside in a very pretty courtyard. Would really recommend the Angel, and if we are in the area again will definitely book again.

We stayed for one night on our Chiltern cycle route. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our lovely room. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was delicious and service faultless.

Went for a family celebration. The food was lovely as it always has been. We were put in a room away from other diners which meant we were able to talk amongst ourselves as a large group without disturbing other smaller groups. Thankyou to the chef and management for your really thoughtful approach to dietary needs eg gluten free. It was a great choice , every dish could be tweaked, that was particularly nice when it to the desserts. I never felt like I was limited in my choice and the alternative I was given was very good.

The food and the service is great. The beer is bottles only and rather pricey, hence only 4stars.

My wife and I enjoyed my birthday meal here last night. We live locally but decided to stay overnight to round off the night. It's fantastic! We've enjoyed many wonderful meals at the Angel over the last 20 years and stayed a couple of times....

Lovely place in Long Crendon who I can only say are very kind and was empathetic when we broke down outside of their establishment. Based on this alone, when they are back open to the public properly (they still take party bookings) I will gladly go there for a meal to review properly! But in the meantime, they certainly have my vote on service alone!

The tapas sharing starter was good. Generous portions, nice selection and well prepared. The beef wellington was out of this world. It came ready prepared and (for us) needed 25 minutes in the oven with the dauphinous potatoes. The 10 mins resting time gave time...

We had a lockdown takeaway for my birthday: Beef Wellington, Salmon En Croute and puddings. Easy to prepare, very good value for money and completely delicious. Highly recommended.

Decided to go for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. This unassuming restaurant delivered warm and friendly service. The food was on par, if not better than any other restaurant in the local area, however the prices were much more reasonable for a set lunch menu.Would highly recommend to friends and family. We would definitely visit again, but maybe in the evening next time.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend who had eaten there before. We went today with the fear of the coronavirus hanging over the country. The meal and service was excellent as were the staff and if this was our last supper before lock down we go with a smile

Had lunch on Monday The food was just as good as it usually but the older gentleman that served ourselves was very rude and short with us, he ruined everything we love about the angel, will think hard about coming back

Wood fire burning, comfy bar after a rainfilled trip from London to meet for family lunch.Set menu is excellent and great value for money but must admit temptation of a twice baked souffle was too much to miss...so passed on my dessert to husband...a fine fruit creme brulee. The fish pie was our star. Coffee with petit four made for a lovely dining experience. Staff were charming and excellent wine list. Highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to be treated by my bosses to a lunch here. There was a group of 9 of us and the whole afternoon was brilliant. We were seated in a good area to be able to chat and have a laugh. We all ordered drinks which came quickly and then our food. Starters, mains, and deserts. All of which were delicious. The presentation of the food is excellent and the Tastes and flavours were superb. Thanks for a great lunch and will certainly be back! I am lucky enough to eat out quite a lot and this has to be one of my favourite places.

Warm comfortable seating area on arrival while choosing from the menu. Sunday lunch option, taken by two of our party, seemed very good and looked and tasted delicious. From the main menu, the trio of fish was excellent - fish perfectly cooked and accompaniments tasty; my first course of twice-baked cheese soufflé's was perfect. Creme brûlée all round for pudding - a classic and again perfectly cooked. I can't wait to go again!

The Angel is an old 16th century coaching Inn that has been tastefully restored and converted to a restaurant with rooms. Brimming with character. It is in Long Crendon which is a picturesque village near the Chiltern Hills

Lovely atmosphere in the bar area and great service. Must get back soon. The fish is lovely and a great change from other local restaurants.

Went here for a birthday, food was really nice staff were pleasant.

There were four of us. We were served by a waiter who did not know the menu. When the food arrived, it was good - most definitely, not great. But the staff really let the house down. I am tempted today “scruffy”. Dressed In a mismatched way, too casual, and clearly not interested in us ....” who are the two soups.? “ Not what you expect from a £50/ head restaurant .

Popped in for lunch and had a good experience with my wife. Good service, very prompt and friendly, in and out in around an hour.

A lovely place to stop off on the way back from Bicester shopping village. Friendly service and delicious food - what more could you want from a country inn?

Celebrated birthday dinner here and was not disappointed, made to feel welcome from the time entered the pub, so great staff, great food and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Last night we --9 in total- enjoyed a splendid meal with our daughters and their families in a wonderfully decorated room, with a splendid round table. Our food was absolutely wonderful... starters, mains and desserts!! and the service was outstanding, truly outstanding. We consider the Angel our special occasion place to go...for family reunions and other festivities...as well as lovely lunches and dinners throughout the year. We highly recommend the Angel and send a big thank you for last night.

Just revisited one of our favourite restaurants.

Our table for 4 in this lovely restaurant was situated in a beautifully decorated room with plenty of space (unusual at the time of year). The service was efficient, friendly but unhurried. The food was delicious! One of our party is vegetarian and another vegan, but we were all easily catered for, with plenty of choice on the menu. Thank you we had a lovely evening.

A group of us had a meal here. After reading the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but can honestly say we had lovely food all round and the portion sizes were absolutely fine.

It is so nice to visit a restaurant which is not part of a chain and owned by people who are genuinely passionate about what they do.

The fire was lit when we arrived and we had an aperitif on the cosy sofas by the fire. Although I was hungry I could have stayed there for longer. We had a delicious meal. It was reasonably busy but we were served quickly but not hurried. Each course was as lovely as the others. Couldn’t fault it.

Lovely surroundings, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We were there for lunch and chose from the fish specials - really delicious and beautifully cooked, followed by excellent desserts. What’s not to like.

Trevor the head chef was extremely helpful in catering to a strictly gluten free diet. A fantastic range of choice, and a very warm friendly atmosphere. Would definately recommend eating here if you have dietary requirements, or none!

Went there om fathers day and the staff were very friendly, food was so delicious easy parking, i would definitely recommend it.
