Not sure why the heading today - 3.9.24 states CLOSED. Have been in and around Winslow this last week and seen the pun open and in use, particularly Saturday. Although my photo was taken before opening hours from the outside the cafe opposite.

I had the best eggs benedict at The George on Saturday! A complimentary pot of tea too when you visit for Brunch! Myself, Wife and young two year old had dinner here in the upstairs eating area which has been renovated very nicely. Very ambient and relaxed. The pub downstairs also looks really nice and a good layout with decent drinks. We ordered starters or Bruschetta and Gnocchi (homemade, delicious) with focaccia and olives. Mains were mushroom risotto, steak and pork belly. All cooked and seasoned exceptionally well. The biggest hit was the helpful and friendly staff who made our toddler feel at home. Excellent food, nice staff and a lovely pub. Recommend and would return anytime.

Bitter choice is poor, food not on par with reviews, cold starter (supposed to be hot) with no flavour whatsoever. Main course tasteless and unevenly cooked, my wife's food had a hair in it. We visited The George Winslow for a lite bite to "celebrate" my wife and my Birthdays before lockdown v3.0 The Revenge of the Fifth took a grip on sunny Bucks! Our beloved pooch was also able to dine with us in this wonderful Dog Friendly Pub! We arrived to a friendly greeting and shown to our table. We ordered our drinks from their well stocked bar and sat back to choose from their menu. I ordered a Gravitas Ale as the beer is always well kept there! It was their "Steak and Burger Night" so the majority of the family ordered either a skirt steak or a burger. My son who's mad on pasta had Creamy Mushroom and Parmesan Rigatoni! My daughter and I had the Bacon and Black pudding scotch egg for starters. Well what can I say!? What an awesome creation! It was huge and more than a substantial meal! All in all we had a wonderful experience. The wait staff were attentive but not overbearing, the atmosphere relaxed and all the food reasonably priced!I would like to call out Sam, Rachel, Rupert, Toby and Emma for a wonderful dining experience and making our beloved dog so welcome! It's a real shame that we won't be able to go again until after Xmas.Hope to see you all again soon!

The food was delicious, with the staff being attentive to our daughter’s needs and offering smaller portions of the menu for a reasonable price. I enjoyed the steak, my wife a pasta, both very good. As a personal preference, I could have eaten more salad and chips with my steak. Quality was excellent. The staff were very attentive and made us feel welcomed and safe with the best covid control measures we have experienced.Having individual access to very clean toilets is something other pubs and restaurants should replicate.Hope to visit again soon. Many thanks to all the staff.

With the threat of Tier 3 looming because of you-know-what, my wife and I were keen to get some liquor and fine food in our local... And what an amazing time we had. We brought our dog Lexi, who was kindly accommodated, being provided with fuss and water and we were lucky enough to be seated next to the open fire.My wife had the delicious (and strong!) Locally brewed cider and I consumed many delicious pints of the Aylesbury pale ales. For food I had the homemade black pudding scotch egg which was INCREDIBLE and my wife had the whitebait which was also delicious. As it was the burger and steak night we both had the classic burgers, which were cooked and put together with perfection. To finish we had the salted caramel brownie and the sticky toffee pudding and these were rich and delicious.Throughout the evening all the staff were attentive and very friendly without being intrusive. It's really impressive to see how well The George has adapted to the ever changing restrictions and still maintain such good service.

Washed down with an exceptional Chilean Malbec. No rush and not a scotch egg in sight, although Sam's homemade examples are truly delicious. All in all, a wonderful evening. We’ve had Sunday dinners a couple of times at the George now and they’re some of the best pub lunches we’ve had. Indeed, we’ve paid a lot more at other pubs which have not come close. George is a pub of two halves - downstairs is rather ‘traditional’ and you would not necessarily expect the restaurant upstairs to be decorated so nicely and the food to be so good. Highly recommend the trio of meats dish - indulgent but the pork, beef and chicken all cooked very well with delicious veg and gravy. Pizza also tasty and massive - even the kids portions!

Our first visit to The George Inn, good to visit following the refurbishment. The restaurant has been well decorated with brickwork showing & industrial light fittings providing a pleasant environment. Focusing on the decor might give you an indication on what we appreciated most. The Sunday roasts were quite tasty, nothing to complain about but nothing to excel about. The Tomato Bruschetta starter was bland & overpriced. Pleased to see the George Inn open for meals but hoping the menu will be extended to offer more variation (including more vegetarian options) at sensible prices for quality offered.

What a disaster! We arrived at 7.00pm on a Thursday evening and walked into a quiet bar area - three other couples - to be told we couldn't order any food for twenty minutes. The reason given was that "we only have a small kitchen". Being new to Winslow, we didn't realise there was a restaurant upstairs and there was nothing in the bar to indicate this and the barmaid didn't offer this information, we thought we would be eating in the bar. Half a pint later and we were getting hungry and no food was arriving for anyone else. After a recci of the place we found the restaurant upstairs and the barmaid reluctantly took our order. Ten minutes later. we were called upstairs to our table. There were four other couples there - hardly busy - and for ten minutes nobody was eating anything - how bizarre! Eventually, the couple next to us received their steak and chips but having ordered medium rare, these came well done and were sent back. We opted for the starter of asparagus and poached egg. It came eventually and the asparagus was overcooked and the poached egg hard. How difficult is it to get this dish right? It seemed as there was only one chef on duty although a second one appeared in the bar as we were leaving to top up his drink. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, not helped by the intrusive music, it was very quiet (clearly locals avoid this place) and the food was slow arriving and not very good. A strange experience we will not be repeating. The management of the bar and kitchen needs a good shake up.

I can't believe The George in Winslow has declined my table booking for complaining a couple of months ago about poor service and a dreadful meal. Burnt Nachos and raw well done steaks, a cold burger and almost 2 hours between starter and main. We refused to pay for the meal as only one of the five was eaten whilst we waited for the other four to arrive. It was disgusting. We had waited over two hours from ordering without an apology. We did pay for all our drinks though, even pointing out those they had left off the bill. I'd advise all to avoid this place. I can't believe I'd previosuly left such good feedback on Trip Advisor and Facebook from when the previous landlord and landlady were there. To give my review some scale, never in my life have I refused to pay for food before and I'm well into my 50's so gauge for yourself how bad it was. The party consisted of 4 adults and we were all in agreement of the action we took. I'd fully recommend all other eating establishments in Winslow and the surrounding villages. The Bell Winslow, The Mahabharat Winslow, Tobys Winslow, The Crown Granborough, The Betsy Wynn, Swanbourne, The Thatch at Adstock, The Bell Beachampton, etc, etc. We've never had cause to complain in any of these and frequent them often. We were prepared to give it another try, booked in only to be told 24 hours before on a chance visit to the bar that our booking was declined. I'm told the reason for the ban is that I opened the door into the kitchen. I did this is order to return my inedible food as there was no staff at that time in the restaurant. I opened the kitchen door but did not go in past the entrance. It's such a shame as our previous visits under the prior Landlord and Landlady's management had been so welcoming and such delightful food.

Mi voto a favor.

We had a really lovely Sunday lunch in the restaurant at The George. This is a nice contemporary style restaurant, recently opened upstairs at the rear of the building after having been a work in progress for quite some time. The staff in the restaurant and the bar were polite, attentive and made us feel welcome. For those who like cider, I can recommend their "Old Rosie" cider, proper cider but also quite strong so beware if you intend driving! The five members of our group enjoyed the roast beef, chicken or pork and accompanying crispy roast potatoes along with freshly and superbly cooked vegetables. The desserts were equally tasty and served in sensible portion sizes. All in all a very enjoyable lunch and I look forward to returning to try out the evening menu

It was my husband that was keen to visit this pub. I thought it looked run down and was not keen to go in. I was very wrong in side is light clean and in two area's. There is also a shop that sells many different types of beer from other countries. The welcome could not have been more warm and nothing was too much trouble even with our very simple drink order. We had lunch which was very good. We were so impressed we booked for Sunday lunch in their restaurant upstairs which was very good. Very striking room. Hope to repeat the experience.

The restaurant upstairs is a hidden gem and it feels more London than Winslow! The food is good value, cooked to order and tasty. The portions are perfect. We tried a range of starters and mains and everything was delicious!

This place has had a few changes of management over the years, and is currently run very well as a traditional pub, with a good, and changing, range of beers. It appears to be popular with all ages.

Not sure how this place yet justifies the title 'Inn'? It has a traditional English small town pub exterior and names. It's bang up against the town square and junction. It keeps a modest but sufficient selection of fairly well kept beer. When we've been in there have been a good many people. What it lacks is food and a bit of an edge. It's got many of the componants to bring it close to being the real deal but it's soft and suburban with a look you might find on the lid of a tin of chocs. It needs verve, to be more of a community hub and at least a small range of hearty pub food.

We were staying at the hotel across the street, and found this gem of a place.Upsides: Great real ale, 8 handpumps on, all different. Fantastic selection of Belgian, German & even American ales in bottles, served in the correct glasses.Downsides: No food and not much outside seating. All in all, great well kept ale, and friendly pub. Would definitely go back.

Wanted to stay all night. We watched the euro champions final here after a long day at the GP. Barman was great and whilst there were no more than a handful of locals they were chatty with us, having a great time themselves and generally made the place buzz. Pity it doesn't do food but hey choose your thing and do it well and they did.

Living in Winslow, there is no shortage of pubs and bars, but it's been a struggle to find one that both my husband and I equally like to go to on a regular basis.Since The George has been taken over, its really nice to sit in, the staff are really friendly, it has a great range of drinks from its cast beers, bottles, whiskeys and locally made gins. They do jars of cockles, pots of nuts or bags or crisps.I believe they are starting up a small shop within the pub and I've heard that they might start doing food which will be nice, even if it's just a range of cooked bar snacks/small dishes.

Stayed in the area for two nights and found this pleasant watering hole. I drank Thatchers Gold Cider, and very nice it was too. They had a wide range of real ales and ciders and an excellent selection of craft beers in bottles. Having spoken with the landlord I discovered that he is in the process of having an Off Sales Area added to the pub. They do carry out hoppers of 2, 4 and eight pints...............very handy.Great old picture of the 'War of the Roses' rugby match hanging in the bar, the original hangs in Twickenham Rugby Stadium.

We visited this pub over the weekend whilst staying in Winslow. It has recently been refurbished and is extremely comfortable and beautifully fitted out. The bar staff were extremely welcoming and were happy to let customers sample the beers on tap. Most enjoyably, there was a vast selection of bottled beers from Belgium and Germany to try. We will definitely be spending time here again.

The George has recently reopened under new management and is now a really civilised place for a drink. Winslow has a number of other pubs but they are all, in my opinion, pretty soulless and unappealing and since we moved here some15 years ago we have never felt either particularly welcome or comfortable in any of them. On the whole, local boozers for local people. The George has come to our rescue. Sympathetically refurbished (no pool table, TV or machines, hooray!), it now offers a range of locally brewed craft beers, guest ales, wines and bottled Belgian (and other) beers. There is a House Wine list too.Currently the only food available is a selection of locally produced pork pies. I would have awarded the full five stars if there had beeen a more extensive range of bar food. I believe there are plans for a first floor restaurant which would be good news. We've principally visited in the evening, at least once a week since their reopening.Mark the landlord really seems to know what he's doing though when we called one Friday lunchtime (1 May) there was only one (perfectly pleasant) young woman behind the bar who seemed very interested in talking to her friend and not so keen on clearing the remains of a pork pie orgy my other half had had. A question of training and inexperience only I think. All in all, a really promising start. Let's hope it continues.

I have been in the pub twice recently, lovely bear, superb surroundings. But the mystery is why no customers, the first time, myself, nephew a old gentleman and the barmaid. Yesterday, a gentleman and his lady, and myself and the landlord. This is amazing since it was a bank holiday lunchtime. Do hope this pub attracts more customers otherwise can see it closing.

The atmosphere of this pub is so much better. They offer a brilliant selection of real ales on tap and a huge selection of craft beers by the bottle. I love their new pork pie menu too. I'm looking forward to when they start serving a full menu, as there are no pubs in Winslow that serve quality food. I would have given this 5 stars but there is one thing they could do to improve the place further and that is to turn down the bright lights and maybe stick some candles on the table to help soften the lighting. Definitely worth visiting.

Recently been taken over by a new owner, Vale Brewery. In its previous guise it was not really a pleasant place, always been a very nice old building that deserved better but has never quite had it. We popped in for a few beers over the opening weekend last week and were massively impressed. A large selection of excellent ales on tap (tried a few) and plenty of bottled beers, everything is reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and pleasant despite how busy it was. The bar areas have a great atmosphere but a spot of background music or something would add to this. So far the signs are all positive for this place and here is hoping it goes from strength to strength, certainly our new local. Rumours that there are plans for food in future, do hope this is the case. Finally Winslow has the pub this great little town deserves.

I have always avoided this pub as in years past it had a poor reputation. But meeting some work friends and the Bell being packed with a function we braved The George, and to be fair we were not disappointed. We were greeted by friendly Staff behind the Bar and the selection of beers and real ale was good. It wasn't very busy but the locals joined in with our banter and we were made to feel at home.A friendly experience

This pub has been a bit of a no go area for the past year or more, however happy to report a new landlady is in place and things are definitely looking up. It is clean, the landlady is welcoming and as a result the clientele have improved no end. There is no food yet (except for functions), although I believe lunchtime sandwiches will be coming very soon. Lots of events happening - a regular quiz night, last Saturday Pig Racing, music and Halloween Fancy Dress are already booked in. The skittle alley and function room are still available upstairs - so get yourselves down to see what is new and help make this the good pub that locals would all like it to be.

We came across this little gem when out for a walk in Wendover. Although the outside seating allocation was full due to the lovely weather, we easily found a spot inside. We both ordered the large breakfast, which arrived promptly. For the price, you got a very good portion. The black pudding was very tasty, the hash browns were perfectly crispy, the bacon was meaty with a nice margin of fat for flavour; also, perfectly cooked eggs, well cooked sausages etc. The food was piping hot too. Our only criticism would be the use of semi-skimmed milk. Recent studies show that full-fat dairy products are protective against diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Large numbers of people and cafes are switching back to whole milk. I recommend you use whole milk too for health and flavour reasons, as it makes coffee etc. taste much creamier and you need less of it!

Couple plus adult son. Booked in here as a motorhome stopover. Table booked for the evening. Landlord was happy for us to park up with permission in the morning so we could spend the day with our son who’s moved in locally. Lovely olde worldy country pub. Clean, friendly, proper home cooking & prices. Play area for kids outside and covered seating also outside. Peaceful nights sleep on sloping grass. Defo recommend and defo return.
