Delicious Sunday lunch with options for vegetarian and vegan in addition to the usual Sunday roast. The starter of smoked salmon and avocado was really tasty. I had the mushroom loaf and roast which I was kindly offered as a veggie option whilst my husband had lamb with all the trimmings including cauliflower cheese. As part of the Easter special menu the bread and butter pudding was irresistible. Excellent service and very good value. Thanks to the Star team for our Easter treat.

The bistro was shut for a while, now they are back and it is worth coming to pay a visit.

An excellent Christmas lunch with friends - I'd heard good reports about the cafe at Ripleys Garden Centre and it didn't let us down. Delicious food, perfect portions, well priced and friendly, efficient staff. Happy to recommend and will certainly return.

A fantastic Micro Pub. The landlord is very friendly and so are the locals. A good choice of real ales. Well worth a visit

I’ve been dining here for years now and I’m sad to say it’s lost its spark somewhat. At £100 per person I expect a bit more. Maybe it’s comparing to other restaurants like the Fordwich Arms and Hide and Fox, but The West House is now a couple of leagues below these I’m afraid. Most courses were fairly average and lacked flavour. The squid a bit rubbery, the pasta bland and the chicken dry. Red mullet quite nice. Best dish was without doubt the desert which was some kind of blood orange trifle with rhubarb compote which was delicious I have to say. Service was very good as always and timing great. Always very welcoming and polite, but sad to say the food was not what it used to be, maybe it’s due to a set menu nowadays to keep restaurant bills down. A real shame.

From the moment we walked in the door, we were impressed - the cafe is beautifully decorated and had a welcoming atmosphere. Despite being a group of 6 - with a dog - we were quickly seated. We had a range of food - sandwiches, baguettes, toasties and jacket potatoes, all of which were freshly made and delicious. The cakes we had to follow were also wonderful - the only downside (!) being the wide choice and having to decide on which ONE to have! The people serving us were warm, friendly and very accommodating, elevating the whole experience. If I’m back in the area, I’d certainly pay another visit and would encourage others to do the same. A real gem!

We used to visit this cafe on a very regular basis, but due to difficult family circumstances, this was our first opportunity to return in 9 months. We were welcomed with open arms by the owner (Karen) and by the waitresses (Yvonne, Pip and Maisie), who all said how much they'd missed us, and how lovely it was to see us again. Pip and Yvonne both remembered our usual order (particularly impressive, as I have a restricted diet and have to slightly alter a dish on the menu). The food is top-quality, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. In these days where the impersonal machine is king, it is lovely to visit an establishment where you receive top-notch personal service, and where you are made to feel like a friend rather than merely a customer. I truly cannot recommend Williams & Thomas highly enough - it is the best tearoom in Kent.

What a great shop. We went because the powers that be closed our local Dymchurch butchers shop and we wanted to see what Aldington had to offer. We weren't disappointed. Friendly staff and so well stocked up with meat as well as ready to cook meals, kebabs, cheese, wine, gravies. The pork stakes are really thick and the lamb steaks where a good size and had the bone taken out - bonus. Forgot to ask about the fish, didn't see any though. We'll go back or put an order in by phone as they deliver if it's more than £25. The guy serving us also lives in The Bay and gave us more direct directions back but we must have taken a wrong turn. It was a nice day so it didn't really matter.

This is a lovely country pub and the staff were very friendly. We originally planned to visit to have a ploughman’s lunch for my wife’s birthday as stated on their website menu. When I went to order I was told that they don’t do ploughman’s (it wasn’t listed on their paper menu). We were disappointed but ordered some sandwiches instead. The sandwiches were delicious and sitting in the beer garden on a sunny Saturday afternoon was lovely. So until the website menu is updated, be aware that ploughman’s lunch isn’t an option at the bowl inn.

The food is excellent and there is a good selection of rather good wines ranging in price from 'sensible' to 'eye-watering' :-) We started with a bottle of the house sparkling wine (Penstock) which was all it claimed to be - light and refreshing - served in the comfortable lounge area. The dining room was a little noisy - perhaps because of the high ceiling and hard floors, but it was crowded so perhaps that's understandable. I started with the red mullet - beautifully cooked and nicely de-boned. My main of sea-bream from the grill was quite superb - and I can recommend the crispy potatoes. Dessert was a chocolate mousse - smooth and full of flavour. And this is what one might expect from a restaurant operating at this level - excellent ingredients, cooked well. What made this celebration meal special, though, was the service. I have eaten at lots of restaurants and I have never had better service. I regret I can't remember the name of the guy who served us, but both he and his colleague (she was from Hungary and was a big fan of Tokaj) were professional, friendly and contributed a lot to our enjoyment of an excellent meal - thanks to both of you!
