Stubbs in Ashford

First time visit as a group of 11 on a packed Friday night. Great selection available on the menu, staff friendly and helpful particularly with two food allergies in our group. You get the feeling that nothing is too much trouble for them. Will definitely be back.

We have booked the table on Saturday to celebrate my eldest birthday. He has some learning difficulties, waitress serving us recognised it straight away and staff had acted upon it straight away. Evening could have turned completely differently if it wasn't for Hannah. So thank you very much for making our evening extremely enjoyable with superb food and excellent service.

Great place to eat. There's a bar for aperitif, a champagne and oyster bar and then main restaurant. Good variety of food, we had a vegan, a vegetarian and a steak lover with us and everyone was happy Nice cocktails and wine Good selection of beers

A real gem of a place. This was our second visit as a party of 9 this time. The staff were so friendly and attentive from the moment we arrived till it was time to leave. The food is amazing, but combined with the service, decor and atmosphere, it makes a visit into an experience. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Visited Stubbs on a Sunday lunchtime with 13 family members for my husband’s birthday. The food was very good, with plenty of choice (especially for vegetarians or non-eat meaters). Our waiter, Scott, was exceptional! He was extremely attentive and we never had to ask for anything; he was always one step ahead of us and asking if there was anything we needed. Thank you Scott for such an enjoyable visit!

Fantastic food, well priced and lots of it. I'm a huge person and was full by half way through my main. Only negative was the receptionist who seemed annoyed that we'd turned up without a reservation (having checked there was spaces online) and was going to make us wait for 45 minutes until someone overruled them and sat us immediately

I can’t give in words as much praise as Stubbs deserve. As a coeliac sometimes it’s very hard to find a trustworthy, reliable restaurant where you feel safe eating. Stubbs ticks all the boxes, with a separate gluten free well thought out menu, highly trained staff, it’s an absolute delight. The food quality is outstanding and a very rare treat to have onion rings and an amazing peppercorn sauce as standard. Sally looked after us and the service from start to finish was faultless. I also had a fudge cake preview that was to die for, light, fluffy with a lovely rich flavour, my family members all tried it saying it was amazing and they wouldn’t have even known it was gluten free. They have some amazing chefs. We will definitely be long term repeat customers.

Sham!! We've been to Stubbs a few times and had really good experiences, recommended and took some friends with us for lunch recently (Steaks). All the food was unfortunately over seasoned with salt to the point my glasses were steaming up as my face was perspiring so much. We are not complainers but had to raise the point with the staff. The complaint was to be raised with the chef, and we were going to be given more fries that wouldn't be salted. Ordered more drinks, which, when delivered, were incorrect and had to be sent back, unsalted fries failed to arrive. What a shame as service and food has always been brilliant, but on this occasion, it was a bit of a disaster. Guys, please ensure food is not over salted.

Really impressed with the food and the staff attentiveness. We went to the restaurant for my mums birthday. The waiter even brought her some complimentary ice cream at the end of our meal and wished her a happy birthday, it’s the little things that mean a lot!

Had a fantastic time for our anniversary celebrations 🍾 Stubbs had put a rose 🌹 on the table and a card. The food was fabulous, and then to top it all brought out ice cream with candles. Made us feel very special. Definitely will return .

Visited on Sunday afternoon, menu is varied, interior is very nice and service was exceptional. Food was lovely, had steak for main and cooked to perfection. Definitely worth a visit.

We turned up on the off chance after trying unsuccessfully to make a reservation online. Fella on the entrance was a great communicator and seated us straight away. The service was fantastic and all the staff were really polite. Complimentary nachos with a salsa dip were brought to our table while we looked at the menu. We had the broccoli and stilton soup and the classic prawn cocktail followed by the chicken schnitzel and the duck. All beautifully presented and flavoursome. Restaurant was exceptionally clean and tidy as were the washroom facilities.

I visited Stubbs last night with my friend as a belated birthday meal. The service was amazing , everyone was so friendly and attentive . The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was buzzing. Definitely worth the money !!

Called and booked at 8.30 for a table at 9. Arrived at 9.05pm for an impromptu celebratory meal with my wife. We were directed towards our seats, which were not quite ready but after a short wait we got seated and were looked after well, our drinks arrived quickly but the noise and atmosphere was too loud and not that of a restaurant, priced like this. Very loud and almost like a wetherspoons that you would pay £25 instead of the £78.80 we paid. I ordered 6 oysters for starter, which were good although the dish they were served on was too high and it took up too much of the table and blocked the view of my beautiful wife from me. My wife had tempura veg with no problems. I opted for the Skate which was perfectly cooked, my fries were soggy and cold. The broccoli was hard and undercooked. My Wife had the Greek burger, which she was not happy with. The halloumi was dry and overcooked, I tried some and agreed with her, her plate was left half eaten as she was not happy with the food. I was asked by the waitress if everthing was ok, I replied, "Hmm not great then the general manager came over and asked the same and I said the same. I ate my food and then my wife left for the toilet and the waiter came and asked for me to pay the bill. I had sensory overload due to my autism and adhd and the constant questions and the drone of shouting and noise and some kind of show that was put on by the staff. So I unwittingly paid and left the table and dining area to get away from the noise to get a drink. I was then turned away from the bar for being too "intoxicated" I had 1 small peroni with a massive amount of food, wasn't driving and definitely wasn't intoxicated. I felt as though I was being discriminated against because I didn't agree with the dining experience, I had sensory overload and wasn't dressed as smartly as the rest of the restaurant. I have eaten in Stubbs 3 times previously and will definitely not be returning. If you suffer with autism or don't like to shout to your partner when you eat I wouldn't recommend it either. I can honestly say that was my worst dining experience ever.

Fab place with different bars and food areas, we had a lovely meal and the staff were very friendly, would definitely recommend this place!

This was our first time at Stubbs Restaurant, which was for a wedding celebration. We were quickly seated at our table and offered drinks. The restaurant was very busy for a Saturday afternoon, so I am guessing that booking is a good idea. The menu is fairly substantial with a good choice. Our orders were taken quickly and the food was not too long in coming. I had the fried brie, followed by the full rack of pork ribs. Both portions were large, and tasty. The prices are perhaps a little bit higher than in some places, but the service, portion size and quality far outweighed this.

This was our first visit to Stubbs and we will definitely return on a later date. Food, staffing levels and attention to the customer was first class. Just a couple of slightly negative thoughts. There are a lot of tables in the main part of the restaurant, the level of noise was at times extremly loud. We struggled as a group of 4 to sometimes hear our conversations. We had a table booked for 7.15pm and although when we walked into the restaurant, it was not at capacity, the car park was virtually full. We parked in the tiny overflow part, about 4 vehicle max. I would still recommend Stubbs, as overall we really enjoyed our experience....

We visited Stubbs at the end of our European holiday. What an amazing place with great food and fab service. Scott who looked after us was amazing, my son was very taken with him! The food was faultless, we had scallops which were beautiful, steak and sea bass, all really nice. The children's menu had an excellent selection. Best meal we had all holiday... in fact, in a long while! Thank you, we will definitely be back next time we are travelling. Thank you!

Food was amazing with a great choice, staff was so friendly and helpful, my son has type 1 diabetes and they even try to found what what carbs was in the meals for him. A beautiful outdoor space..A little hidden 💎 will be going again.

What an amazing restaurant. On Thursday we went to Stubbs with our friends as it was their wedding anniversary. The food as always was amazing and the staff particularly Lucy and Alex were second to none.The service was amazing and we enjoyed the banter we had with Lucy and Alex. Cannot say enough about my evening @ Stubbs on Wednesday 7th August '24. The service was just spot on, the staff were friendly and chatty without being OTT or invasive, the restaurant was spotless with well spaced seating so you weren't elbowing or listening to the next table, the menu was plentiful in choices and the serving sizes were generous. The food was cooked and presented to perfection. At the end of the evening we were allowed to sit and chat and not made to feel like we needed to leave even though it was getting late. I will definitely be visiting again when I'm next in Kent. The cost was as expected with no surprises. A+ 5⭐.

We came here for the first time earlier this year and it was great. Back today for an impulsive lunch out. Called ahead to check if they had availability, lovely man said to come on down. Quite simply, amazing service, fab staff, amazing food and the set lunch menu is such great value for money. We both had the fish and chips today and I’ve honestly never tasted batter so light, it was incredible. Smoked salmon pate was also delicious. We will definitely be back and will try an evening meal next time!

Having arrived and seated with 3 other members of our group, we found the wait just a little longer than expected, but this wasn’t to affect our food or the evening as a whole

Good points; starters where very nice, service staff were polite, they serve good gin ! The portion sizes where huge. Bad points; pork belly: three portions ordered, two were lovely one was very fatty to the point of being inedible, I had the poke bowl which was smothered in about three diffrent causes making it unpleasant and inedible, when I complained I was told both dishes were there best sellers and pork is fatty by nature. They are obsessed with mini ice buckets!! We have four of them on a table for five at one point and I eventually asked for them to be removed ! The portion sizes are huge! We had to many servers waiting on our table causing us to get asked the same thing by two or three different servers each time. They graciously took 15% off the poke bowl and one of the pork dishes I would of been happier for at least one pork dishes to have be taken off our bill as the poke bowl was my taste and other people may like it !! For a restaurant that has no short no service on a board outside there was lots of trainers amd casual wear!! Over all stubbs is trying too hard to be posh and heavily missing the mark.

We’d wanted to try somewhere different for our wedding anniversary and Stubbs was local and somewhere we’d not been before, so we chose here. First impressions weren’t what I expected. It is very dark inside, with dark walls and low lighting. It is also very noisy! There are no soft furnishings so all the talking echo’s and as a couple we found it difficult to talk to each other over the noise. We ordered and one starter (mine) came out. By the time I’d finished eating it we still had no drinks and my partner hadn’t received his starter. I asked a passing waiter if we could have our drinks and he apologised. After a while he returned and said our order had got missed, so could we reorder. We did this and it was shortly after that our drinks arrived. The waiter then returned to say that my husband’s choice of mussels were now sold out (frustrating seeing others around eating them when we may have been able to have them if the order had been put through?). My husband reordered a different main and after another short wait his starter finally arrived. From then on the food came as expected. It was nice, but nothing extraordinary and we personally didn’t think it was worth the price tag. It’s saving grace was the delightful waiter who served us. He was a lovely man and very apologetic and cheerful.

We were staying at Eastwell manor and decided to venture out as their food and service was overpriced and underwhelming. Stumbled across this little gem and I can’t recommend it enough. The food was great, service good and atmosphere fun. Highly recommend eating here if you are in the area.

We ate here for the first time today and it was absolutely amazing! Everything we tried tasted perfectly balanced and packed with flavour. This is our new favourite restaurant in Ashford by far and we will definitely return soon!

Called in with no reservation on a Tuesday evening around 7.30 and it was just about full. Offered a drink in the bar and a table around 8.00. So glad we stayed as both the service and the food were excellent. 3 lovely scallops followed by two good sized skate wings. They were delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and professional and was pleased we enjoyed the fish, as she recommended it. If we lived a bit closer we would be regular visitors.

Went to Stubbs tonight 18th birthday for my daughter wow the food was really good the service well it was like you was in a 10 star hotel absolutely amazing 3 or us had every thing we wanted no holes barred beers cocktails coffee brandy desserts of course mains I had steak hundred and thirty quid what can I say exellent

I've been here several times and it's always been very good. But I thought the steak lunch Baguette I had today was really special! The fries were some of the best I've ever had. And the Banoffee pie was exceptional, with actual dulce de leche used.

Absolutely outstanding. Stayed at a local spa hotel and decided to take a look at somewhere local and what a good job we did. I'd go as far as to say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had bar my honeymoon in Thailand. Exceptional staff, a beautiful menu and a wonderful venue. Order starters, mains and when asking for some dipping bread for the table the waitress said I wouldn't with what you've ordered. There'll be A LOT of food. She wasn't lying. I fully respected her honesty and showed they care about customers experiences instead of their pockets. If you go ask for the jalapeno dip that comes with the Tempura Prawns even if you don't have them. Sweet, tangy and a little kick. I asked for more with my main it was so good and they happily obliged. Literally first class. Thank you all for making our 14 year wedding anniversary meal so special. Keep doing what you're doing because we genuinely loved it. We will be back!

From moment we got in there the staff were very Hospitable, Friendly and Efficient. Food was great, the oysters were fresh and tasty. The calamari and Tempura prawns were amazing and my chicken schnitzel was good. To finish it off we had the banana pancake and the fudge cake with ice cream. The cake was a big hit. If I do come towards ashford again I will be sure to visit the restaurant again.

Great place to eat and enjoy cocktails/mocktails. Good selection of veggie and vegan foods as well as meats and fish. Generous portions, especially the brie. Staff always polite and helpful. Just one bit of feedback, table booked on a Sunday for 1930. Apparently the kitchen closes shortly after that so we were rushed when entering to choose our meals. Suggestion to put a note on the online booking about this and perhaps visitors can then choose before they get there. Other than that, tasty food and I regularly recommend it to people and will happily keep returning.

Stubbs! Easily the best restaurant in and around Ashford. The food and service are both excellent and you can vary the experience on every visit by choosing between the club restaurant, bistro, cosy bar or garden. Sit in the garden on a nice day eating the fabulous paella and it feels like you are somewhere much more exotic than Ashford. Where else can you get such superb seafood or a perfectly prepared sour cherry negroni? In my opinion it just gets better and better. There is also a waiter (Nathan I think) who always goes way above and beyond. Great staff, great food. Happy days at Stubbs.

Having been to Stubbs multiple times, I can now say it’s my top recommendation to friends, family and colleagues when asked about dining options. The service is always proactive and friendly and the food never disappoints. The atmosphere is comfortable and really reflects that traditional Kentish style. As I say, I’d recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great new restaurant option.

Having Eaten here a couple of times in the past we had remembered the food being good and enjoyed our previous visits however this evening although service great as ever there has definitely been a change in meat suppler kebab shop burgers and average steak definitely lost a customer in at least 3 tables this evening having spoke to others and these equally passing comments in the change for the worse

Had a great late afternoon/night out at Stubbs. Started off on the terrace by the front door, and then as the group swelled to 12, we decided to make a night of it! The staff were attentive and managed to get us a table outside on the terrace by the garden. The food was tasty and well presented. They even catered for me when I asked for a starter, but for it to be delivered along with the mains. As the night drew colder, the patio heaters were a welcome treat and allowed us to stay a little longer than expected. I highly recommend this restaurant. Although it is a little pricier than others around it, it's well worth it!

One of the best meals iv had in a while, beautiful decor and atmosphere, delicious food without being over pretentious. Highly recommended.

Great service but disappointing food. The chips were cold and overcooked. The fish was medium sized and ok. The waitress did replace the chips but I would've expected better quality at those prices.

If I could rate them 10 stars, I would!! For 15 years we have been struggling to go out for dinner in Ashford, it's our second time in Stubbs and I can safely say this is our favourite restaurant and we won't go anywhere else. Fresh food cooked to perfection and amazing service. We asked my daughter from 0 to 10 how much you rate your moules frites...she answered 12 and she's the most fussy eater ever. On top of this, the place is where my husband and I got married when it was still under the previous management so it's even more special and we are glad we can still visit 😊

Lunch with friends. After a small hiccough of us being seated in one part of the pub and our friends being seated in the restaurant we had a great afternoon. The service after initially ordering drinks was a little slow but it was ok as we had lots to chat about. Great choice of food unfortunately the dish I wanted from the daily special wasn’t available strange as it was only 1.30! Second choice was the sea bass which is actually sea bream apparently the menu states this but I’m sure it said sea bass!! Everyone enjoyed their meal Would come again

One of the best places in Ashford to have a nice meal. Portion sizes are generous and food is well cooked. The service is excellent with friendly, helpful staff. One thing I like is that the service charge is not automatically added to your bill. They don't really need to because the staff work hard and so deserve the tip. I had no problem adding it to my final total. Decor is good and makes for a nice atmosphere and relaxing lunch vibe. I will definitely be back.

From the time we walked in the door to the time we left we had a fantastic experience. The food was amazing, cooked very well and tasted just as nice, the service was brilliant ( always with a smile and very friendly and helpful) and the atmosphere excellent. They were very child friendly and couldn't do enough for us. I could not fault anything with our experience. The food was well presented and reasonably priced. However, if you do fancy a bit of extravagance, then you will have to try the champagne and oyster bar. I haven't tried it, but seemingly, it is excellent. I highly recommend Stubbs,

Went on Saturday at crack of noon. Busy half hour later. Food was great, I had jalapeno burger, although my friend had scallops, which looked even better :-) I'd go back. Good food, reasonable price. Friendly staff, good car parking, lots of tables, bogs look lovely too :-)

Fantastic evening last night, place was incredibly busy, but still great food and service excellent!

One of the worst craziest restaurants I have ever been to. From the Web site description, the menu, the prices and exterior seems like an upmarket gentleman club type experience. The reality is get to the door - a queue - could not get in the door out of the rain. The reception was par to going to the Beefeater. He looked stressed out and confused. Asked to go to the bar. Ended up in a pub. When enquired about the Champagne bar was then shown to it but then left sat there not knowing who was serving. After along time I got a cocktail. The cocktail was good. A phone rang rang rang loudly. The staff were acting as if it was normal. Choose not to go to the restaurant as full of children. The phone kept ringing loudly. The service was erratic and random. The toilets were nice but no soap in gents. The food itself was good so the chef is good. The dessert choice was basic. Getting ice with the rose was the only nice touch. But would never go back. The prices do not reflect the experience but if you like chaotic, loud, expensive places with lots of kids this is for you.

Had salmon for starters & seabass for main course absolutely delicious, third time going now….. just can’t fault it.

Had some excellent meals here, but today`s lunch was disarpointing , had 3 course menue and the choice was very limited , 3 out of 4 of us did not enjoy our main course , and cannot believe they do not have a Merlot red wine , however good news is that skinny chips are back !

Stubbs is class, great food, great staff, great building and ambience. Yeah its a tad more expensive but when everything is done so well, you should pay a bit extra. Been a few times and always found it a great night, most recently had a birthday dinner and they brought a little desert out and sung happy birthday, class touch thank you
