Stubbs in Ashford

Fantastic evening last night, place was incredibly busy, but still great food and service excellent!

One of the worst craziest restaurants I have ever been to. From the Web site description, the menu, the prices and exterior seems like an upmarket gentleman club type experience. The reality is get to the door - a queue - could not get in the door out of the rain. The reception was par to going to the Beefeater. He looked stressed out and confused. Asked to go to the bar. Ended up in a pub. When enquired about the Champagne bar was then shown to it but then left sat there not knowing who was serving. After along time I got a cocktail. The cocktail was good. A phone rang rang rang loudly. The staff were acting as if it was normal. Choose not to go to the restaurant as full of children. The phone kept ringing loudly. The service was erratic and random. The toilets were nice but no soap in gents. The food itself was good so the chef is good. The dessert choice was basic. Getting ice with the rose was the only nice touch. But would never go back. The prices do not reflect the experience but if you like chaotic, loud, expensive places with lots of kids this is for you.

Had salmon for starters & seabass for main course absolutely delicious, third time going now….. just can’t fault it.

My first visit to Stubbs for my husband's 40th birthday.... We will definitely be returning! Brilliant service from booking to paying the bill . Friendly and professional. Attentive and helpful. Food superb!! Easily the best restaurant in and around Ashford. Thank you Stubbs for being a "nice" family friendly place to go. Highly recommend

Had some excellent meals here, but today`s lunch was disarpointing , had 3 course menue and the choice was very limited , 3 out of 4 of us did not enjoy our main course , and cannot believe they do not have a Merlot red wine , however good news is that skinny chips are back !

Stubbs is class, great food, great staff, great building and ambience. Yeah its a tad more expensive but when everything is done so well, you should pay a bit extra. Been a few times and always found it a great night, most recently had a birthday dinner and they brought a little desert out and sung happy birthday, class touch thank you

Lovely place ! The decors beautiful, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was delicious! I had heard good things about stubbs but hadn't been so thought I'd see for myself ,and yes ! I would definitely recommend. The menu had a good selection and the food I ordered was so tasty. The toilets were abit far from my table ,but an employee found me looking abit lost and kindly pointed me in the right direction. And the toilets were just as classy as the rest of the place, also lovely and clean. I'm already looking forward to coming back next time!

Went to Stubbs tonight 18th birthday for my daughter wow the food was really good the service well it was like you was in a 10 star hotel absolutely amazing 3 or us had every thing we wanted no holes barred beers cocktails coffee brandy desserts of course mains I had steak hundred and thirty quid what can I say exellent

My wife and I had our 1st visit last week and were extremely impressed. The food was outstanding, the staff were very good, efficient and discreet. As far as we were concerned a perfect evening and the lobster and oysters were very tasty.

Haven’t been for a while but what a great meal we had! Great food, great service (thank you Lucio C.) Defintiely going back soon 😊

Extensive menu with something for everyone. I chose the mushroom burger which was disappointing as the vegetarian burger Pattie was not the best I’ve had and it was cold. Fries were nice. Have had the chicken schnitzel before which I can recommend. Friendly welcoming staff and a nice setting.quite expensive.

Had a works event here so met for a couple drinks in the bar then moved onto the resteraunt for dinner. Good selection of drinks and cocktails, nice, old world atmosphere, really good, helpful staff and a wide selection of really tasty food covering everybody's taste (had vegan sushi as a starter followed by an amazing double burger for dinner!). Whilst I didn't pay, prices were reasonable for the quality of food on offer. Would happily go there again. Reccomended.

Good place. Went on a monday night and was pleased to see that it was busy. Food was great and fast coming to the table. Plenty of it as well and we'll presented Reasonable price. Will visit again soon.

Been to Stubbs many times and always a good experience, gets very busy, staff are nearly always very good and better than you would find in almost any restaurant . What prompted me to write this review (apart from the great food and drinks) I read a recent negative review that was left because some diners had been "told off" by the owner as they had loudly sworn using the F word. This is exactly what the owner should have done and it's nice to hear that the owner or staff were not afraid to do this (I'm sure the diners were probably threatening bad reviews under there breath when he told them the language was unacceptable). If people can not do something as simple as control bad language in front of other people (and children) they don't serve to be in your lovely restaurant. I look forward to many more great meals 🙂

Starters were fine, ordered a burger for main, claims to be cooked medium, was quite far past well done, someone ordered a steak rare, came medium. For desert I ordered a blueberry cheesecake, it is in fact a lemon cheesecake with blueberry compote, no where on the menu does it mention its a lemon cheesecake. Service was exceptionally slow

Great cocktails, delicious food, service was very atententive. Good size portions, we couldn't fit pudding in! We will definitely come back again, enjoyed the large menu of so many different things to try.

Such a nice restaurant. We spent our friends Birthday there. We had his cake delivered by a friend. And they were happy to bring it to our table. At the appropriate time in the evening. Enjoyed everything so much. We are all going back next week for my Birthday 🎂

I don’t know why I’ve put off visiting Stubbs for so long, because it’s a beautiful restaurant. The interior is stunning, tables set up, staff smartly dressed, brilliant menu choices. The staff are attentive and offer suggestions to suit your meal. The steak was cooked well; just over medium rare, as requested, but tasty and well seasoned. The sides were nice. The chips served with the dish were okay, dried out if you didn’t eat them immediately. “Hand cut chips” seemed to be a proud menu statement, although they were not the best chips. Overall, the restaurant is good value and a good experience

Nice food ! Quite a long wait for starters to arrive considering we were one of first tables booked and restaurant soon filled up! But think everyone else served well before us! Was an hour before starters arrived and we had my 2 great grandchildren who are 15 months old was along time for them to sit! But they did well! And our food was not a complicated order!

Superb. Popped in to the oyster restaurant. Did the oyster, no a favourite of ours, but had to!!! Next, tempura prawns and calamari... fantastic. Then, carpaccio beef and salmon - absolutely, tastefully lovely. Then a cheeky pannacotta. Well worth a visit. Ponot grigio blush, I thought, is a good compliment. 👍🏻

Lovely food staff very attentive. My disappointment lay with the chips I felt like they were like oven chips. I wud have expected triple cooked chips for the price.

Great food and large portions staff are excellent

Really nice place to eat with some very reasonably priced high end foods. Only reason it doesn’t get full marks from me is it is very dark inside and the carpark is way too small with spaces squeezed in at all sorts of angles asking for damage to your car!

Can't fault it, very nice pleasent staff and food is really good and reasonable

On entry to the car park I knew this place was something special, I had been recommended by friends for its excellence and it didn’t disappoint, the external grounds were spacious and very well kept as was the car large park. A very warm welcome on arrival, quickly seated and ordered, I opted for the lunch menu, 2 courses for just £20, broccoli and stilton soup was just delicious, it arrived quickly, chilli burrito main was equally as good. Inside very spacious and cozy, log fire, if only there were more establishments like this! I’ll be back. Staff very attentive, exceptional service, plus the owner Alex was out front which is always nice to see.

I was at Stubbs for lunch with my Wife, Daughter, Son-in-Law, Granddaughter and Grandson. The service, as usual, was impeccable so many thanks to the waiting staff. The childrens' menu offered sufficient choice to keep them satisfied. The adult menu was both varied and interesting. Food was well cooked, tasty, and well presented. For me, care with presentation should not be overlooked; the better the presentation, in my experience, the better the taste. Finally, food was served , where it was needed, on warm plates, certainly a plus point. Thanks to all for a very enjoyable meal.

Went for lunch with family members. Very good service even with the restaurant being busy. All the food was first class. My husband asked for a salad instead of the vegetables, which was no trouble for them . I had the vegetarian crepe but didn't realise the sauce would be quite so full of tomatoes. They very kindly cooked me a completely new meal, which was lovely. One of our party had the scampi, which she said was very good. All the desserts were also lovely. All our meals came from the set lunchtime menu, which is very good value. Will definitely be dinning there again soon

I love this place. In a nutshell, simple food, generous portions, cooked well. It’s great for families, outings with work colleagues, romantic dinners or drinks with friends in the evening. The Bistro, the pub, the oyster bar, the main restaurant all offer a different ambiance for your needs. Sure, minor bits and pieces can be improved but overall it is the best place locally to have lunch. There are actual vegetables for the children which can be hard to find in a chain restaurant.

We had all been before, my friends and I and had enjoyed it very much lovely staff great value too, so we thought we would return not quite the same today and we all agreed the baby prawn portions had been cut down considerably , a bit of a let down really!

Food is always good here. On our last visit we had the Asian Poke Bowl and the Fish Cake off the specials, and both were excellent. Usually the service here is good, though this time we were both very disappointed in our waiter and felt really uncomfortable. No smiles, no manners, very blunt, came across arrogant and we felt like we were an inconvenience. We then witnessed equally poor service to 4 elderly guests sat opposite us. His attitude had a negative impact on the ambience and atmosphere. Normally the service here is good, hopefully they resolve this issue as the food was excellent and it was such a shame that this individual taking the order ruins everyone else's hardwork and effort.

We had such a lovely meal here we were all really impressed the quality of food and service, and the ambience and decor was easily the best in the area . Some people would say it’s pricey but you get what you pay for and I would rather have one meal here than have 5 in the chain restaurants even when they have offers on so give yourself a treat and give it a go it’s really worth it. I used to work for the owner when he had the Swan and dog so I knew it would be great quality food homemade and locally sourced where possible. I’m really happy he’s started this wonderful business even better it’s on my doorstep the head chef who is a friend and former work colleague even took time to come out and say hello thanks to Sally the restaurant manager who was also an ex work colleague who told him I was in the restaurant. It was really busy the night we went but we didn’t have to wait long for anything , it really was a lovely evening. Thanks so much to all the kitchen and front of house staff for making our sons birthday dinner so special.

The food was good as always , however experience was spoilt by being served breakfast tea when Earl Tea ordered and Courvoisier being served in a whiskey glass.

Lovely food, but the menu doesn't change, so limion on choice once you have tried most dishes.

We arrived to be greeted and seated straight away, this restaurant was extremely busy and the atmosphere was amazing. The waitress took our food and drinks order. It was so busy and we waited awhile for our drinks. Then our starters arrived and it was amazing! Also the mains was good too, the waitress was lovely thank you Brooke Lewis, she was attentive with a warm bubbly personality .

First visit to Stubbs and will not be the last!! The food was amazing and so was the service. Generous portions too! Great atmosphere. Cannot compliment enough! Highly recommend!

As always; you receive a warm greeting upon arrival, and are promptly taken to your table and offered drinks and menus. The food (as always) is great; two of our party enjoyed different steaks, one the pork belly and the other the beef bourguignon. Only three takers for desserts; one banana banoffee and two cheeses boards (one of the best cheeseboards I’ve seen !). Polite and attentive service throughout the evening, couldn’t fault the food or service. Great buzzing atmosphere in the restaurant, would thoroughly recommend.

We stop here to take a break from driving, it is very close to Eurotunnel. Nice atmosphere and nice food. Nice terrace also but we was there in December.

We had our first visit to Stubbs yesterday and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was first class! Best Cottage Pie i have had anywhere. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we all loved the atmosphere which was warm and relaxing. An excellent restaurant, we can't wait to visit again soon.

Excellent food, good engagement from staff following wine requested being out of stock for an alternate. Service would have been 5 just lacking additional information about the sauce accompanying the fish that needed correcting. But not hold it against them. Absolutely recommend this place in abundance.

For a Christmas meal with colleagues it was a very good choice Decent menue at decent price.

I have posted about this restaurant before and my opinion hasn't changed - with maybe one exception, they don't have a Sunday lunch menu, which is a pity as it gives the traditionalists an excuse to spend a couple of hours in a brilliant establishment soaking up a cracking atmosphere. That aside though, not to visit is to deny yourself a great time.

Not our first visit but was amazed that mid January and it was rammed. They may need to increase the car park as this is most definitely a popular place to eat. We are regular restaurant diners and find very few places where service, quality...

Exceptional dining experience. Never been to Stubbs' restaurant before and was very impressed by the menu, the decor and ambiance, and the staff. The food was fantastic, and not overpriced, really enjoyed the whole evening.

I know it's very 'in' at the moment but I found it OK but only average, fairly pricey and not much different to numerous chain restaurants.

Really excellent food - the mackerel starter and lamb were truly outstanding. Staff were extremely attentive and even brought me a small dessert treat after noticing I was wearing a happy birthday badge! Decor quite dark inside so hard to see at times, but otherwise full marks.
