The best restaurants serving British food in South East

We used to live in the village for many years and it seemed fitting to arrange our mothers wake at the pub we used to pop into for drinks or food over the years. Staff were so friendly and attentive, food was great and even had some left over! We were lucky to have amazing weather and we enjoyed all sitting outside in the garden where there was plenty of seating to seat 50 plus people. Highly recommend

Nos encanta este pub, vamos regular todas las semanas a veces dos veces a la semana, la comida es excelente el tiempo de espera es para la comida es siempre rápido el personal del bar es tan amable y servicial, especialmente las dos chicas jóvenes , recomendaría este pub a cualquiera, en verano tienes un gran exterior para sentarse No puedo encontrar nada negativo que decir sobre este pub

Unfortunately don’t get the hype. Really not worth the £73 for roast beef, pigs in blankets and rock hard cauli cheese. Was really looking forward to this but unfortunately there was more fat on the bones than actual meat.

Honestly the worst fish and chips ever had, got 2 oap meals, 3 tiny pieces of fish in thick greasy batter, and barely no fish in it. Don't know how old the chips were and how many times they had been rewarmed, avoid at all costs!! Shame can't rate zero stars!

Sunday lunch trying the new menu, to be recomended, great service from the staff, as always.A family friendly pub/ resturant for families.And of course for others !

Had a Sunday lunch for 2, my wife had previously been and rated this village pub part of the Greene King group. In a way the pub is traditional with a bar, restaurant layout but with a COVID canopy with booth style tables. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The draught beer on offer was a Greene King summer brew and a guest ale from Hardy & Hansons, Old Trip. Very reasonably priced at £4.80. We both had a roast, I had beef and my wife pork. My beef was plentiful but a little chewy but wife’s pork was good. The roast potatoes were very good and the vegetables were plentiful if a little soggy. There was a good sweet selection I had the apple pie with custard which was alright. I don’t know why there haven’t been any recent reviews but based on this visit I won’t be rushing back, sorry.

Absolutely no-nonsense proper traditional pub with a good local following and great atmosphere. We stopped by on the way back from Clarksons pub and to be quite honest apart from the ’celebriry’ aspect that’s just a jumped-up mass catering venue whereas the Lamb & Flag is what a pub should REALLY be!!!

we have been coming to the mermaid inn not quite as long as it has been open - about 40 years !- experiences over the years have of course varied .The restaurant is in 2 rooms both very attractive , the staff are friendly , efficient , human ,the dinner we had last night was excellent - lovely local scallops then for my wife pork belly and myself wild sea bass followed by a chocolate marquis and myself passion fruit soufflé , everything we had was quite delicious , a very enjoyable dinner . We live only a few miles away , this visit will encourage us to return quite soon . Well done the kitchen and the staff .

Guys are nice, but no apple cider on tap in the Friday evening ? Cmooooon!

Went for Sunday roast Food cold, roast potatoes have never seen a roasting tin let alone been in the oven. Veg was stale tasting and bland. Way too Over priced not worth the money

Popular pub (with boat hire) next to the Ouse. Very prompt and efficient service. Children and dog friendly of course. Well situated for a riverside walk and plenty of parking.

Lovely pub - nice atmosphere, good service (very accommodating), delicious food. Really family friendly. Would definitely return.

I ordered a beef curry and egg fried rice. I was slightly suspicious given the fact that the meal was turned around in about three minutes. My suspicion was qualified by the fact I have now had a very bad upset stomach for 24 hours
