Been here many times - great staff and food very good - gets very busy so best to book if you want a specific table - some of the lighter bites excellent at lunchtime- good wine selection

I ate here for the first time recently for lunch and the food was great. I have the beer battered haddock finger sandwich on ciabatta bread. The staff were friendly. However, the service was a bit slow.

We ordered Nachos £13.50 for a little snack. Really just got a plate of tortilla chips with hardly any cheese! We complained, the waitress didn’t care. They were brought back to us no different! Worst Nachos Iv ever tasted. Very unfriendly, un helpful lady on the food desk. The pub garden was nice. My grandson slipped over and broke his nose, again no one asked if he was ok and he had blood all over him. Won’t be coming back.

Enjoyed our first experience at The Fence. I had booked a table for our group online - straightforward process. The Manageress gave us a warm welcome and provided us with friendly, efficient and helpful service throughout which was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the food and drink we consumed. Our only surprise/disappointment was that this Fuller's pub did not have any real ale on draught (nb I should have reviewed the online drinks menu in advance !); though the bottles of London Pride did go down well. We can thoroughly recommend the chicken wings !

We hired The Fence for my partners significant birthday, absolutely top notch service for what turned out to be a busy event. communication was good throughout - everything I asked for was provided and staff were super helpful on the night to my drunken panics. awful beer - Peroni £6 a pint, served in an ale glass and completely flat - terrible - I do not understand why such a central and popular location can serve beer to that standard - it is not difficult to get it right! Also please get more staff on a Thursday evening - you know you are going to be busy

Busy little venue, quite cool searting area, but sorry, the beer was flat. At first I thought it was just the Amstel, so I tried the Asahi, same! flat as a pancake. Either watered down, end of barrel [unlikely] or wrong glasses. Shame, could have been so much better. Couldnt complain, bar was just too busy,and already waited 20 minutes to a drink in the first place.

Popped in for lunch on a spontaneous visit with a few colleagues to get out of the rain. Great service and very much enjoyed the passionfruit martinis! We work around the corner yet have never been here before however will definitely return for an evening visit. Unfortunately the weather was wet when we visited, we popped outside for a smoke and found this place has a huge garden that looks amazing too. We will be back - new favourite spot!

A nice enough spot with pleasant atmosphere, good food and drinks but possibly the slowest bar service I have encountered in all my years - gobsmackingly poor!

Quite frankly under Dean’s management the place is going from strength to strength. My friends love the cheeseburger, which Monica cooks correctly. And we love the fact that chips can be transferred into salad. Which is important for those us who all full of carbs. Well done everyone.

LGBTQ-friendly bar-restaurant. We hebben hier wat gegeten, dat was prima. Niks bijzonders, lieve mensen. Helaas viel de wifi en tv verbinding weg waardoor we de wk wedstrijd elders moesten kijken. Mooi patioterras met vlam-heaters. Lekker informeel met vriendelijk personeel. Ook niet duur trouwens. Tomatensalsa bij nacho's is pikant.

£24.50 for two G&Ts made with Gordon's gin was a bit steep. From our table, I could really smell the toilets.

Went for a nice lunch. Hadn’t been here for a couple of years. Quieter than normal but some decent October sunshine meant we could sit in the fabulous beer garden with only a few others. Great attentive service. Small but nice well priced menu and lovely wine. A really top spot.

The bar was very busy, very few items on the food menu were avaiable but what we had was good. Quite young / professional clientelle in the mid evening.

Cocktails are amazing, food is good quality and the staff are extremely accomodating. Food and drink prices are reasonable, had a great evening with my friends! Close to other venues for aftewards as well, e.g. Fabric and Pianoworks. Top quality evening and great venue. Music is good quality, not too loud and fun selection!

Visited with 3 friends the food and service were ok but the music seriously ruined the evening and couldn’t wait to leave - so loud you had to shout literally to be heard and we were not the only table to complain. Average decibel count for speaking is 62 the decibel count on 10.12.21 was 94 If you want a club style pub Don’t want to talk And leave with a pounding head this is the place for you A shame as the set list was some quality tunes but sadly it made people want to leave due to the volume and for that reason alone I would not recommend it.

Went here on Saturday, had booked in advance to ensure a table. It's very convenient for Farringdon station (basically right outside). Staff were very attentive and had a good laugh with us. Same with other tables, everyone in a good mood and a nice crowd....

It's busy near Faringdon station and The Fence is an interesting venue - sometimes it's completely packed and other times there's plenty of room. They've got an extensive gin menu and the staff are always friendly.

decent enough food but fairly limited menu; reasonably priced - certainly not expensive; service isn't great; had to chase waiting staff a few times for things we had ordered; it backs on to the train station so there are trains thundering by every couple of minutes - on balance I probably wouldn't return as there are so many restaurants to chose from in the area

Esperar más. fuera - que estaba bien para nosotros como me hubiera llegado temprano y estaba dispuesto a tomar una copa y hacer algunos trabajos mientras espera. Son variados los principales, e incluyen una amplia gama de opciones de carne y verduras. Ambos decidimos por calabaza ñoquis como queríamos algo ligero. Además de un lado de patatas fritas con romero compartido. Nuestro servidor dos veces mencionó que las porciones eran muy pequeñas y nos preguntaron si queríamos pedir más. Las porciones no eran enormes, pero yo estaba feliz porque no me quieres un montón. La calabaza nos sentimos un poco gruesa, aunque necesitaba un poco más de cocina y me hubiera gustado más salvia. Las patatas fritas de romero le faltaba romero! Me hubiera gustado tener más sabor. La factura de la comida llegó a alrededor de 17 libras, lo cual era razonable. Un 175 ml de vino blanco era 5 libras, que era un excelente precio para la zona en la que estábamos.

The food is very average and the table service is appalling. So much waiting around! Not the kind of place you would go to if you wanted a quick bite to eat.

Booked a table for four online and had window seats. Good choice of beers and lunchtime food . Quick service,friendly staff and food was really good. Would come here again.

Tuve mi bebidas cumpleaños en este pub el viernes pasado, 2 de marzo. Yo tenía un tiempo fantástico, al igual que el resto de la gente en mi grupo y disfrutamos de la música de DJ, 80 al final nos lo pasamos de maravilla, y el personal era muy amable y servicial. Been here for late breakfast a couple of times - both times was pretty empty which is good if there with colleagues/clients because you can talk. First time they had no butter for my toast which came with the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon I ordered. Pretty strange for a restaurant but they said that they ran out! Did not offer me anything in exchange (top up of my tea, or perhaps some jam) so not that impressive. Second time (it is a good location and well spaced tables so came again) the service felt a bit better so would go a third time. But they stop breakfast at 11 and lunch does not start until 12 so not good for a late brunch.

We had a table here for work Christmas night out and I was really pleasantly surprised. Great quality food and good service. Reasonably priced and handy for Farringdon train station. Only problem with it being a pub is it was a bit noisy and not easiest to talk to people further down the table. First visit to this place - looks like a lovely outdoor area, ideal for warmer months.

I was so impressed with the fence, and have since been recommending it to all my friends and colleagues. The staff are absolutely wonderful, and the tall man who waited on my table was so great (send my regards). The food was delicious, and not over priced! Loved the general atmosphere and will be coming back again without a doubt.

Reservamos una mesa para comer en un día de verano muy caluroso. Sin embargo, estábamos bien a la sombra de la marquesina y la camarera tenía agua helada listo en la mesa para nosotros cuando llegamos. El menú era variado y estábamos contentos de no ver los platos estándar pub (hamburguesa, pescado y patatas fritas, salchichas y puré de patatas, etc.) que son generalmente ya mencionamos estos días. El personal era atento y sonriente. Nos pasamos una tarde muy agradable y espero llevar a mi marido aquí en algún momento. Bien hecho el equipo valla - seguid así!

Alojarse en esta zona este lugar parecía bien, ya que necesitaba para comer. Las raciones no son enormes pero wow que asisten un punzón. Ayer mi marido y yo tuvimos platos de cordero junto con una ensalada y patatas fritas herby. El vino y la cerveza eran de precio razonable. Muy fresco y bien presentado. Hoy volvimos y tenía compartir tapas, ensalada de tomate al lado y un plato de queso. ¿Por qué no hay más gente comiendo aquí? Un montón de gente bebiendo. ¿Por qué no 5 estrellas? Went to The Fence today for a work lunch with a group of us. The pub was mildly busy, but not rammed as it can be and, while busy, the garden had a lot of big tables occupied by just two people, so we went inside having not been greeted at all or helped to find a table as this pub used to do before its service went totally down hill (around the same time they switched from decent gastro pub food to sub par tapas).

For many years I have been looking forward to returning to London to dine in this restaurant. I was there for its opening night 20 odd years ago. The place looks great and the courtyard was packed. London was having a heatwave! Menu was limited for lunch though tasty. Service was painfully slow, oh my god! Slow slow slow. Only guest had to leave half way through our meal to go and pick his children up from school. Staff need a kick up the rear and pull finger and attitude.

Really pleasant summer seating at the back in the suntrap. Food innovative and perfectly fine. Worth a visit.

I haven't been to the Fence for quite some time and was encouraged by the garden, very nice, and the open environment of the main building - so far so good, first impressions were positive. It was busy, not overly so and lots of staff which should be a good indication of service but wasn't. Poor, slow and not particularly friendly at the bar. Even after securing a table we stayed for one and left. That hadn't been the plan but why stay? Could do so much better.

Went here as it has a good outside space. There are not that many good outdoor drinking areas in London, so this is a real bonus, really good suntrap.They try and say the menu is for sharing bit I had pork belly, my friend had a lamb chop, not exactly easy to share! The prices are not suitable for tapas sharing plates either. Lack of a burger option at lunch is a mistake too. Need to stop the quirky menu.Would go back for the beer garden anyway.

This establishment has a 'beer garden' which is unusual in n chilly London however .... outside is an open fire 'bar' and neat little huts to sit in which are quite cosy. Food and entertainment available too. See the photographs attached for the outdoors where smoking is permitted. About 20 steps from Farringdon Tube.

I like the menu and selection. It was clean cute and cozy. The salmon monkfish and prawn stew dish was amazing. I have lupus and I am very sensitive to fresh foods and flavors.... this was very fresh and bursting with flavor. The cappuccino with vanilla and caramel shots were a nice treat, I had it hot and iced! My husband enjoyed his meal as well. He had a lamb dish. The staff was fairly friendly and pleasant. I would definitely return and recommend a visit.

We reserved an area outside for 80 people, on arrival our area wasn't ready so I had to get people to leave and clear up the area, a staff member did come to help.We pre-ordered drinks for our guests and thankfully no one sticks to the arrival time as it was a while before we had everything.Throughout the evening the staff were attentive clearing glasses.There is a great selection of drinks and the outside area is large and it's located right next to Farringdon station.They forgot to take our deposit off our final bill but I went back a few days later and it was returned really quickly.

This is a good place for a couple of pints before catching the tube. I recommend the Island Records IPA.

My friend booked us a table here last Saturday for a late lunch. I wasn't familiar with the food here as I`ve only ever been in for drinks in the evening. It was a really pleasant surprise. We had quite a few dishes to share including pumpkin gnocchi, scotch egg, garlic steak, polenta chips but my favourite was the lamp chop.Was really delicious meal all in all. I`ll definitely be having lunch and drink here again.

Went there with about 20 staff for drinks? The staff were excellent , they took the order without fault and what more impressive is they Were able to do a repeat round knowing what we all required. The bar was busy but well served. Outside area has little huts which look snug during the winter months

Never seen such small portions for a full price in a restaurant. They made us laugh. Went out hungry as before, won't leave a penny more there.

This place as a nice decor and fine for drinks but the food is such terrible value for food. The menu is billed as a sharing menu but we followed the waitresses suggestions and ordered one main dish each and one side. However, the portions actually made us laugh when it arrived. The lamb was one tiny chop that was meant to be shared. I even asked how you were meant to share this and the waitress said you have one nibble each. The food was tasty but there should have been a chop each. The rest of the menu was the same. I was still hungry when I came home so had to eat again.

There is only one word to describe this. Poor. Service. Food. Everything. Service especially was quite poor.

This place is great in the summer for the outside area which does get packed! But also recently for the colder months they have a fire pit which is a nice touch. Good drink choice. I've never eaten here but the food always looks good. Hope to return soon

Popped here for a quick bite before a night out with friends and it was heaving. It was a Saturday evening so I guess I cannot complain really, but it was so noisy that we couldn't really hear ourselves think let alone try and hold a conversation! The menu was quite limited so in the end I didn't actually order any food. I probably wouldn't go back here again in the evening, maybe during the day it maybe a little quieter. Drinks average priced for London but staff were quite helpful and friendly.

Love this place, been here several times for business meetings and recently took my girlfriend who absolutely loved it. Great potion size and very affordable. Better alternative to the new nandos around the corner. I love the hanger steak and rosemary chips and appreciated the waitresses suggestion of the polenta crisps.

Around Farringdon/Smithfield there is a huge variety of eateries.Prices are 'full' as a result of the high profile,high end restaurants.So it is a nice surprise to find both an interesting and different menu and at sensible prices.Harissa mackerel (£8.00) came with an orange,olive and beetroot salsa and my 'side' was carrots in orange and caraway(£3.50).For me being on a diet this was a perfect and tasty lunch accompanied by tap water and ice.Beautiful sunny day and pleasant and helpful staff.Much better than a number of other establishments in and around the immediate area.Will be back !

Lunch for 2 on a sunny day in August; my first visit to this modern Fullers' establishment. I am more familiar with their traditional ones like the Counting House in Cornhill.We were seated and served quickly. Our initial waiter did not seem to have fluent English. He re-checked the food order, which was taken correctly but the wine order was missed. A second attempt with a different member of staff was also unsuccessful. Third time lucky, and a glass of excellent wine as I had almost finished my meal. Unforgiveable in a bar, surely.Food was mainly good - gazpacho, veal meatballs, excellent home made chips, some salads. A perfectly ok espresso to finish. Overall a pleasant but unexceptional meal (chips the highpoint) and atrocious wine service. Not hard to get this right and it would make a big difference. Location good, both in terms of being near to Farringdon Station and also internally the bar and restaurant is light and airy and spacious for London. Prices also seemed reasonable for the location.

The idea behind The Fence is good. It just needs to attend to a few details to make it the experience it could be. The staff are very good - friendly, helpful and cheerful. Definite plus point. The food is tasty but the portions are meze/tapas size. They are supposed to be for sharing but you need to order several dishes to have a decent meal. The vegetarian sweet potatoes with goats' cheese and figs is very nice but the amount of cheese on it is so small it wouldn't give a vegetarian any significant protein. It's fine as a side dish but it comes at a main plate price. When we visited there were paper towels on the floors of both the gents and ladies toilets. The Fence is not accessible for the less mobile. There is no accessible loo although we think you can get into the garden area from the street without going up steps into the restaurant and down more into the garden. The garden area is pleasant - plenty tables and along one side there are beach huts that make intimate seating areas for about 6 people. There's also a corner arbour that looks pleasant to sit in. A few tweaks would make this an unmissable eaterie. Will Fullers make them?

Went for a few drinks in the middle of the week. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food looked good. Unfortunately, we never got to try the food as the kitchen was closed when we tried to order some at 21.00.

The venue is conveniently located quite close to Farringdon tube station. Is a nice spot to go and to be seen; packed with young manager and well dressed people. It looks to be a trendy spot in the area and a wide offer of beers and spirtis may be ordered at the bar. A secret garden makes your staying even more comfortable.

I visited the Fence on a sunny day and went straight to the garden which had some amazing beach huts. The atmosphere of the place was electric as place was busy with professionals sipping proseco. I loved DJ playing in a background which made me feel like I'm at the party!The best of all was the quality of the draft beers! The beer felt crispy and fresh and Fubar was available on tap!

Great place to eat. Definitely worth a visit with a bunch of mates ....a corner of Ibiza in the middle of Clerkenwell, just with a few more chimneys and a bit more grit Great food, excellent for sharing - only realised it was a Fuller's pub as we left, which explained the quality. As chains go, they are up there.

Farringdon has a tonne of choice so to get really specific I would choose this as a good to go for an impromptu after work, casual drink. It's got a decent wine list (I'm not a beer officianado so can't comment on this) and has a garden area if you're lucky enough to go when it's sunny. It looks smart inside but is fairly loud. Again, definitely bucketed in the 'casual drink' venue list, not one for business meetings
