Nice atmosphere at its best in summer when you can sit outside by the river. Good selection of lagers and cask ales. Guinness on tap but only one craft ale (neck oil). Friendly staff and dog friendly too

Biggest pile of crap I have ever been served as a roast, 4 stuffing balls hard as stones, some spicy chicken as a “roast” chicken! I was hungry so i had what I could.. £15:50 what a joke!

Beautiful architecture, wirh a nice river view. The staff is friendly, they have a nice terrace outside. Unfortunately we have been there in a day where they didn't have many clients, but the place is lovely, I recommend it for drinks and view as I didn't try the food. One disadvantage is that you have to pay the parking or at least we paid, ask if there are options to avoid paying it.

Came here for a Sunday roast, honestly best roast we’ve had in a long time! Everything 5* definitely worth the visit. Lilly our waitress was really lovely and attentive. The only thing I would say is they need to improve on their stock levels. Considering it was a Sunday, it was a bit disappointing to know they was out of stock of gammon, lemonade, aperol, pigs in blankets, cider. Otherwise everything else was 5*. Don’t hesitate to come here if you want a good roast 😊

Awful food!!!!!, went there to celabrate a birthday. Place used to be great for food and atmosphere. New management have ruined both. Food was disgusting i had to send mine back for a refund. The other 3 people in our party didn't eat much of there food as it was dry overcooked and bloody awful. Avoid this place to eat.

We used to go here as a family for birthdays, mothers day, Sunday lunch, afternoon teas etc. We always enjoyed it but on our last visit the food was so bad all overcooked and they had run out of a lot of things, we left most of it uneaten, these managers shouldn't run a burger van let alone what used to be a lovely place to go, someone get a grip or else this once beautiful venue will be closed down.

Thought I would share my absolutely horrendous visit with the command house. Firstly the poor staff look like they are working in a slave warehouse. Rushed off their feet and tired. Whilst the managers are sat on their phones behind the bar. (Unprofessional). When I ordered my food I was really looking forward to it. Until it arrived (lasagne and chips) the lasagne looked like it had been beaten in an alley way. All mushy and lifeless. Secondly the taste was absolutely vulgure. It was quite clearly a ready meal which had been microwaved for probably six minutes. Absolutely disgusting. The chips tasted like they had been sat in a metal bowl under a heat lamp for ten hours straight. When I raised my complaint with emma the manager, she shrugged her shoulders and told me that it was not her problem and would raise it with the kitchen staff. Emma looked as if she didn’t have a clue how to run this pub. Maybe a manager roll will be indeed soon? Who knows.

We walked passed this venue while on a walk round town, thought looked good and we should try for food, booked a table for 1900 that night, the staff were welcoming when came in and sat almost instantly. Minor issues with the menu, but nothing drastic. Food came quick enough and was very good, however, the vibration of the disco downstairs and the loud singer in the bar area made the quite break about difficult, the singer was ok just to loud for the space.

I have been coming here for a couple of years and have absolutely loved this place! It overlooks the river and has amazing ambience! I even had my wedding reception in the venue there. Food and drinks always reasonable and tasty! Good selection including sharing platters all reasonably priced It has gone downhill as it changed management recently. Menu boring and so overpriced! I ordered a starter of calamari which increased nearly double in price! I got 7 thin pieces of overcooked rubber! My partner 5 overcooked chicken strips, a small side salad and small portion chips 2 large glasses of Rioja’s and paid £50 Rioja £13 per glass (bottle cost £8-9 in shops. I have been here recently to be told so many items in menu are not available! I keep trying to give this place a chance No wonder this place is getting emptier Please new owners seriously consider why you are failing this wonderful place!!

This huge Victorian pile directly facing the Medway was frequently my lunchtime retreat from a 10-day hearing in the nearby court. Or so I thought before some of the most dramatic personae from my case appeared at an adjoining table. Fortunately there are three small rooms guaranteeing some discretion. Although there is a menu of lunchtime dishes from which the steak baguette was my favourite, I also enjoyed a ribeye ‘special’ with chips and salad (twice), a crunchy plate of fish and chips as well as steak pie and mash. All very hearty and traditional just about affording a respite from a rather lengthy and tortuous trial.

Had a Christmas meal here in December and most of it was cooked lovely, but the roast potatoes were burnt to a crisp, they were inedible, not one person at our 18 person table could eat them. It was very disappointing as the food has always been amazing previously, and everything else was cooked to perfection. The other annoyance was we were told one price when booked and then we were told a higher price on the night which was embarrassing. All round we will not be back here for Christmas dinner with our large party.

Really disappointing experience. Ten of us in our party on a quiet week day lunch, and only about 20 covers in total in the pub, so you don't expect to wait an hour and a half from ordering to getting our food. My steak pie tasted fine, but the mash had a crust where it had been sitting, waiting to be served, and the peas were cold and had dried out again waiting. Likewise the sad bits of parsnip and carrot were cold. It needed the piping hot gravy - when it eventually turned up to heat it up. The meal reminded me of your dinner left on the side waiting to be nuked in a microwave after your home five hours late. The guy serving us seemed nice, but food and the time it took to serve us spectacularly poor.

I booked the Command House Function Room for a charity event for Unpaid Carers in the Medway area. As we are a charity the room was provided to us free of charge, a very generous gesture. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had underestimated the number of carers who would be attending the event. Horrid. This place used to be my go to for lunches/dinners and Sunday lunches. Unfortunately since it was taken over it has gone down hill and shows no sign of improvement. I came for Sunday lunch when it was first taken over looking forward to a lovely Sunday roast and I was presented with two minute chicken breast!! Tried again today hoping that after a few months and several bad reviews the food had improved! Oh so wrong their classic chicken as mentioned on the menus is actually shredded chicken!! I am not vegetarian I don’t eat beef or lamb and the only other choice of gammon was not available! What a disappointment that this beautiful building steeped in history has fallen under the hands of an incompetent bunch of individuals.

Saturday 26th October we arrived at our booked time. First we ordered drinks, they arrived as ordered no issues. I asked for a gluten free menu, they didn't have one. But the lovely waitress checked with the kitchen and I could have steak or gammon. I was told chips were gluten free, but when she checked what else was cooked in the fryer she said I would have to have the mash potatoes. So 3 of us choose gammon. I asked for a plain salad with my gammon. No potato. 2 people had steak and 1 had fish and chips. Well the gammon was infact thick cut bacon , 1 rasher. If it was gammon then it was off cuts. My salad had 3 funny looking brown things on it, no tomato's just lettuce and cucumber and drowned in vinegar. Apparently gluten free. I didn't ask for a salad dressing. Just a plain salad. Salad was also warm from being under the heat lamp. I didn't eat it. One steak was cooked rare as ordered and the other one was well done, but also cooked in butter and garlic on a dirty chargriller. It was black, not medium well. They cooked another one and cooked it covered in peppercorns and again on the dirty chargriller. Only 2 people out of our party of 6 ate there meals. The rest were inedible. They lost so much money as they only charged us for drinks and the 3 starters that were ordered and eaten. It was also freezing cold in the restaurant, certainly no heating on. No toilet roll in ladies loo. Luckily I had a tissue in my pocket. I certainly do not recommend this place, we was told they had a change of management 2 weeks ago and since then the food had gone down hill. The waitress was lovely, she tried her best for us but kitchen let her down. Very overpriced for quality. Go somewhere else if you want a meal you can actually eat. Not disabled friendly

Not been to Command House before. Our family has food allergies. Our server Alicia was lovely and did her best to help. The gammon was more like thick breakfast slices. The steak was black and burnt. Another steak was cooked and was medium rare but covered in pepper making it inedible. The place was cold. There was no manager on duty for a Saturday night. The team manager was not very caring. In the end she agreed to not charge us for all the mains so we only paid for starters and drinks. The restaurant probably lost over £150 and the team manager didn’t really seem to care. Spoilt our once a year family meal.

Went out for a family meal 6 of us. Three had the lamb which was OK with plenty of meat. The 3 roast chicken dinners were very disappointing. Only 2 small dry pieces of chicken no bigger than an half of an egg. Nothing like the description on the menu of fresh cooked roast chicken. A tiny single piece if stem broccoli, the roast potatoes not that roasted. The mash, Yorkshire, carrots OK. But little things like ordered diet coke without ice, came with ice. I'm sure this is done to ensure you get less drink. Dinners then arrived without cutlery for all 6. Had to wait for 2 sets. No one came to ask how our meal was. Really disappointed after it was recommended. Is it because it's new management. It wasn't busy at all as it was 1.45. Wouldn't recommend it at all.

I used to love this pub which I frequently visited. Since it was refurbished by the last management it became a popular pub. The location is stunning the service was good the food lovely and the Sunday lunches really great. Unfortunately it has recently been taken over and much to my dismay it has been ruined. The food is no longer good, the Sunday lunches are abysmal. I ordered chicken and ended up with two minuscule grilled chicken breast???? The recent reviews are all very poor. We had the Cumberland sausage in a giant fluffy yorkshire pudding with cabbage, WHAT A COMPLETELY MISREPRESENTED MEAL, there were three small tasteless sausages and a scoop of cabbage in an elastic texture yorkshire pudding that had gone completely inedible, at £17.00 it was robbery. The menu itself was very limited in choice and very expensive would not be going there again, also didn't have any house wine only expensive brand wine.

Came for Sunday lunch, belly’s empty and ready to scoff. We ordered two gammon Sunday dinners along with two drinks.. When our dinner arrived we were asked “well done?” To my amazement I responded “it’s gammon” The waitress repeated her self “well done?” My other half also bewildered and asked “sorry what?” The waitress said “you asked for one to be well done” Both confused because it’s gammon, how on earth can you have gammon well done? Me thinking the slice of gammon was popped in the microwave for extra crisp my other half took the plate just to end the conversation… Now I wonder where “two gammon dinners and said drinks” translates to can we have one of these gammons well done… Any way, we ate it… Not one part of the gammon was glazed and the stuffing looked like it could have done with a week in Mauritius, it was that pale. Not to mention biting into it, hard on the outside barely anything on the inside, could definitely use it to smash windows if I launched it hard enough. Potato’s were on the tough side how ever with a moments soaking in the gravy they were bearable to eat. Ps would have fancied more veg

I'm not one to usually write a bad review but this place should be avoided! The bar staff were OK but the food service was atrocious. When we were able to find something on the menu that wasn't sold out (at 4.30 in the afternoon) we then waited 30 minutes for food that had either been microwaved to death (chicken like a lump of rubber and veg that had lost any resemblance of the fresh version) or had been left under the heat lamp for way too long! We were a table of 16 out for my father's birthday, we ordered separately so didn't expect our food out all together but after another 30mins and constant assurance from the waiting staff that 'the food Is being plated now' 'it will just be 5 minutes' 5 people from our group ended up asking for a refund as everyone else had eaten their main and dessert. Incredibly rude staff told them it's just coming now 'if you have a refund then you won't be getting anything mate' instead of a much needed apology! avoid at all costs.

This pub has a lovely location by the water, but unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can say about it. My family and I were seated at a large table, and we all ordered our meals one after the other at the bar. Although 4 of the meals came out within a reasonable time, the food quality was very disappointing. After 45 minutes of waiting, we were still waiting for the last meals to be delivered. Other tables around us ordered their food, and had eaten it in this time! We were told multiple times that it was being plated up and would be ready in a couple of minutes. After an hour passed, we approached the manager to ask for a refund, but no apology was offered. Instead, the manager said our food was ready to be brought out and threatened not to serve it to us if we requested a refund. It's clear that the manager has no interest in rectifying their mistakes. To be honest, based on the quality of the other meals served to our party, I wouldn't have paid for it anyway!

They even are a part of the "kids eat for a pound" during half term vreaks so came as pleasent surprise when our host mentioned that too. Happy to go back and recommend.

We visited for a 21st birthday, the organiser was informed that the group would be provided with a ‘room upstairs’ for our allotted time. Upon arrival staff were dismissive of this and told a member of the group it was ‘untrue’ as she had personally spoken with the person who made the booking and made absolutely no effort to resolve the situation or manage expectations. The lady who was pointed out by colleges as the manager did not care for customer service and appeared confrontational and burdened by our presence. I can only suggest she place her bed against a wall. Limiting her to only get up on the right side. The group of 13 were placed in the front the pub on display and on a mere 2 benches for the entirety of the evening. The concept of a pre-payed tab seemed futile in this situation and did not work in practice as it was not effectively explained to the group by staff. Can a £65 pre-payed bar tab be justified by an organisation who is not supplying any more than what a walk-in would receive, the bar lady informed the group she would limit the tab to the £65 and let us know when it had been used so anything further food/drinks would be ordered on the app, this did not happen and the manager later informed us we had a £25 unexpected tab. Some opted to order drinks on the app as instructed by bar staff but on a multitude of occasions did not arrive and we had to chase them. Food arrived in a timely manner, unfortunately too timely and five of the group ended the evening with severe food poisoning, placing a dampener on an already questionable evening. Our appointed waitress was really friendly, we didn’t catch her name but she had dark hair and an eyebrow piecing. She single-handedly tried to make good of the situation and even went out of her way to offer a group picture. We are very grateful to her!!

Great place, very friendly staff, food is good. Enjoyable, friendly and non-competitive quiz night. In the daytime, lovely views across the Medway. Easy parking but Medway Council owned so need to pay.

We had a table of 14 people. We were shown to our table promptly. However, we waited quite a while before our drink order was taken. Starters turned up in dribs and drabs, so some had finished their 1st course by the time others were receiving theirs. 1 steak order was returned for being overcooked. 1 pasta dish was cold. We had to go looking for a member of staff to order more drinks. Service and food were disappointing. Not sure we would return or recommend.

Rung numerous times and sat on the phone with it ringing for longer than 2 minutes. It’s absolutely ridiculous I can’t get ahold of anyone to make a reservation. It’s a shame the foods brillant. But they need to start answering calls otherwise they’ll loose more customers. Sick of it!!!

Booked for Sunday 23rd Feb at 1pm. I was advised that they no longer serve a roast on a Sunday as they have experienced too much waste of food. We arrived just before 1pm to find it empty apart from two men playing darts and a couple sitting at the back of the restaurant area eating. We placed our drinks order at the bar and was given menus immediately. By 1.05pm we had ordered our food... 3 x starters -- prawn bruschetta with chilli sauce (as the soup of the day was not available) and our mains - 1 x lasagne, 1 x beef bourguignon & 2 x lamb shank in a potatoe pie. After enquiring what was happening and a quick visit from the chef to reconfirm the order, we received our starters 40 minutes after they were ordered. The mains were served 1 hour and 20 mins after the order was placed. Whilst the food itself was satisfactory, the edge had been taken off due to the long wait. It was not helped that during our wait we heard other guests who had arrived be told that certain things on the menu were not available! On being asked by the waitress as we were leaving if everything had been okay we said that it was a shame that the food had taken so long. Her reply was that everything is prepared 'fresh' on order and that they consider it better to be fresh than hurried and served quickly. It was claimed that we had been advised that the food is cooked from fresh to order, but we were not able to recall this and it was not mentioned on the menu. The waitresses and bar staff were polite and we acknowledge that the wait was not a fault on their part by any means. We just feel that it would have been nice to be told about the length of time it takes at the time of booking as other restaurants with equally nice food do not take a long to serve even when they are far more busy.
