Proper pub & what lovely people & a perfect Sunday lunch. Called late (lovely girl who answered) but squeezed us in pn the Gang table by the fire. Much appreciated Cliff & Lauraine.

There was a few people in there but all were sat down so we were the only ones at the bar. Because of this we thought we'd be served relatively quick. We weren't in a rush but it did take a while to get served for a couple of drinks. I didn't score for food as we didn't have any

Came here last Sunday for a roast, we didn’t book as we were just popping in, but will defiantly book in the future, the food looked amazing and even on a busy Sunday with dinners flying out they managed to squeeze in my family of 4. Amazing service and amazing food.

My lovely mum took me on a miserable rainy day here ..well the welcome was anything but miserable ,a fire glowing and a lovely warm welcome .. We ordered the Ploughman's to share and I can honestly say it's one of the best I have ever had , huge with so much choice ,cheese ,pork pies fruit ,biscuits bread and ham to name a few ...get yourself down there quick to enjoy !

Lovely little pub. The vegetarian spaghetti and meatballs was the best I've ever had, the food is amazing.

First time visiting, messaged regarding vegetarian options answered straight away so off we went. Pub is lovely staff friendly , food cooked fresh to order, our Son had vegetarian option was best meatball and spaghetti he's ever had anywhere, I had Mussels, husband had Lamb shank shepherds pie, wow!, all delicious and again best pub meal ever. Highly recommend visiting, will definitely go again.

Went here this afternoon 4 of us 4 generations from 12 -89, loved the pub staff friendly but to busy for 1 he was overwhelmed, food was much to be desired ploughman's looked and was awful much work needed, jacket potatoe was just that and cocktails good price but really need to be worked on sorry love it here just being honest, good luck I will be back

Went here this afternoon for the first time with my daughter and met my son and his girlfriend. We all had a very enjoyable afternoon. The pub had a good vibe and live singer outside added to a great atmosphere. Myself and my daughter had a ploughman's to share and it has to be one of the best ploughman's I have ever had, loads on it and all well presented and delicious. My son and his girlfriend had lamb shank cottage pie which was equally good. Very good value, lovely pub and will definitely be back, highly recommend.

Just had Saturday lunch. Sausage mash and peas with mint gravy potion was plentiful sausages divine and mint gravy just set it off. Service was no trouble as we sat outside watching the boats. Very pleasant. Had the Roast on a Sunday which is also good and all food great value for money

Me and a few pals did a small pub crawl around upnor last night. The best pub by far was the ship. The landlady and her husband ( ellis and i forgot her name) was fantastic and welcoming. Place was immaculate, and honestly wouldn’t be able to find one fault. Thank you very much and we will definitely be returning.

Went there as I know landlord and was very friendly and atmosphere was really nice they made me feel welcomed and would definitely recommend anyone to go there specially when you can drink and eat outside while looking over the river medway

Went there today, had gone to Upnor on a trip down memory lane . Went to the Ship for lunch, we had Ploughman's which was huge and really lovely. Staff were very friendly a very nice pub would recommend. Lyn Cooper Thank you 😊

Been going to the ship for 20+ years, under new ownership from prior visits, hasn’t lost its village pub and personal atmosphere. Food was great and the service spot on, chef come introduced himself, asked how we would like certain things served and was bubbly & chatty with us both, just spot on service from everyone.

Very tasty wings, i wish they still had a delivery option.

Went there with a friend for lunch. The usual fish&chips and a pie with potato mash. It was tasty. They have Inches cider on tap! Staff was friendly.

This is a popular little gem of a Riverside pub, solid, lovely, down to earth no nonsense peaceful place, with a chef who enjoys his own pub grub, isn't shy of loving his food and prepares yours as if its his own, nothing has come out the kitchen we haven't liked, no complaints, only compliments, personnel touch too. Ring first, A great local to some, however, a popular sunny day visit for others, so parking is tricky when busy, there is a public free car park further along. The USP, I believe is due to the benches on the river side raised decking area that allows you to view the sailing boats gently caressing their mirror image below them in the tranquil waters, even the rain is pleasant here at these moments. You can sit with a drink, have a meal, while the dog sleeps in the shade of the bench and the activity of the variety of comings and goings along the river and relaxing while enjoying a people watching treat with loved ones. Big garden too

First order from the the SHIP, The BBQ Ribs were plentiful, succulent and melted in the mouth, the pot of coleslaw best I've tasted, and the chunky farmhouse style chips, divine. I will order from here again and again, really good value.

We arr9ved right at the back end of Sunday lunch service. Food wasn't hot enough however this was remedied quickly. Sunday roast was exceptionally good. Service very good, friendly & attentive team. Live musician was setting up for evening Live entertainment however we could not stay for this. Good draught selection. Will definelty visit again.

Went for an early mothers day meal with my mum and 2 children. Staff were amazingly attentive and some of the best pub food we have had in a long time. Ribs fell of the bone, lasagne home cooked and the children loved their sausages. Huge portions and definitely value for money. Would highly recommend

came here from the pier pub next door as was starving because there food they served i couldn’t even eat it was tiny and gross. had the chicken burger and my husband had olives and bread massive portion and lovely food very friendly would highly recommend lots of choice on there menu

An absolutely perfect pint of Guinness. I am a local of the Gravediggers in Dublin, experiencing the Kentish South Downs, and the magic of upnor castle built on the orders of queen Elizabeth I. This pint is comparable. Football, great food, great company. The perfect pub.

Was very pleasantly surprised by a lovely meal here on Saturday lunchtime. Generous portions, beautiful presentation and quality ingredients, all for a reasonable price. A hidden gem for sure 💎

Had lunch with a friend in this pub by the River Medway with plenty of outdoor seating for the summer. Cosy pub with an open fire. Food good - starters of deep fried squid which was lovely; one had a burger without a bun which was a good size and apparently delicious. The other had momo dumplings with fries. The only criticism I have is that the sauce served with the momos was insipid and the plates were icy cold. Very pleasant landlady who served us very well; delicious glass of Malbec and altogether a pleasant lunch and we would go there again.

Met some family here, we are all a bit deaf and the staff had a lovely singer on that evening but they accommodated is in a quieter area so we could eat and talk. Really couldn't fault the staff, the service or the food. The set Christmas menu was huge! So much food

So until a couple of weeks ago the food was great. Lots to choose from on the menu..not sure what's going on now bit only a few options on the board.. we went to a Jersey boy band and the night was brilliant.x

Highlights: Booked the Christmas Lunch menu for 8 people, Pre-Ordered. Arrived and no Christmas Lunch was available. Ordered from the Sunday Lunch menu instead. Waited ages for the food, which did not come out at the same time. Quality of the food was actually good but it's not an experience I wish to repeat. Complained numerous times. No idea who was responsible - probably never find out. 5 weeks ago I made a phone booking for 8 people for the Christmas Lunch menu. I visited in person 3 weeks ago with a Pre-Order of our food choices and provided written confirmation of the booking (and paid a £10 per head deposit). Imagine my surprise when I turned up to find we would not be provided any of the Christmas lunch we had ordered. The reason - the Kitchen (which is run as a separate business!!) had recently been changed to new management. I enquired why had nobody thought to contact me - after all I have provided a written booking - well according to the Bar Manager that was someone's fault but not hers, but she would investigate. We were offered the Sunday Lunch menu instead. We asked to see the menu and had a mobile phone thrust forward as, at the time, they hadn't got any physical menu's. The starters were all fish / seafood related. 3 of the party decided to select the white bait. We wanted to order our Mains at the same time but the Server never came back. After waiting 40 minutes I returned to the Bar Manager and asked why we were waiting so long. She visited the Kitchen and was told they were just plating them up, and they did arrive shortly thereafter. After Starters were consumed we were able to order our Mains. We feared this may also take some time to appear...and we weren't disappointed. About 40 minutes later the Server came out with one meal, and we had high hopes the remaining 7 meals would come out rapidly thereafter. No, but another table did receive their order. Our 'lucky' diner almost finished their meal before the rest of us were able to start to enjoy ours. 15 minutes from 1st meal to last meal. The Roast we had was good quality, well cooked and extensive. If we wanted Salt, Pepper, Napkins, Sauces etc that wasn't on offer, but available if we asked! We had intended to have a Desert but as we'd already been there 2 hours and none of us could stand the thought of waiting another prolonged period for the final course we decided to call it a day. I returned to the Bar and asked for an itemised Bar bill, which I got and checked, and paid it. When I turned around the Server was next to me thrusting her card reader at me. I said I wanted an itemised bill and she disappeared. When she re-appeared she had written the items we had ordered on her pad and the prices for each. I agreed to pay some of the Food bill (2/3rds) but not the full bill. I explained the reasons for my decision to the Server and the Bar Manager. In view of the issues I experienced I asked to speak to the Owner. I was told he was not available so I asked if he would call me to discuss my experience, hence I have waited 2 days expectantly for his call before publishing this review. I'm pretty certain that I'll never get a call but I wouldn't be surprised if he replies to this review with some rubbish. If anyone has ever visited a pub / restaurant where you are told they operate as 2 separate businesses please let me know...and I'll avoid it like the plague!

On arrival we were ignored until all the local drinkers had been served their beer. Then we ordered our food and the only member of staff was still serving beer to the locals 30 minutes later I said where’s are food and she hadn’t even told the kitchen staff. Another half hour and it turned up the worst food I’ve ever even tried to eat we just got up and left . The locals at the bar said nobody eats here anymore.

If I could give zero stars I would! If you are considering eating at this pub, don’t! I called them this morning too book a table for 3. I specifically asked what time they serve food until so we could make sure we didn’t leave it too late. I also informed them that my mum had mobility issues. We arrived about 10 minutes early and the pub was fairly busy in regards of drinkers however, the girl serving behind the bar literally ignored us for over 5 minutes. She avoided making eye contact with us until, I eventually had to say, excuse me, only to be told, I’ll be with you in a moment. I had already sat my mum down at this point due to the time we had to wait. I asked if the barmaid could just tell us where we were sitting, she took my name and pointed at a table on the other side of the pub. We moved while my husband ordered some drinks. He came back with a flat pint which he couldn’t drink. The two elderflower drinks were almost lemonade, they had no flavor at all. After approximately 10 minutes, I went to the bar, only to be ignored again. Eventually, I had to interrupt the barmaid as she went to serve someone else, who came to the bar after me. She confirmed we had to order the food at the bar so I did. After placing the order, she went on to serve someone else and the order sat there for a while longer. Some time later, our cutlery was brought out. It was freezing cold and dirty. I cleaned them myself. A young lady came out to ask if we wanted any sauces with our food. These came out a while later in the small paper cups that you would normally get In McDonald’s to put your ketchup in! A short while later, approximately 45 to 1 hour after we arrived, our roast dinners came out. We all looked at one another in disbelief. They have to be the worst roast dinner I’ve ever seen. I had turkey which was like rubber, as was the beef my husband and mother had. It was extremely small, with one slice of meat each. The potatoes were hard, verging on raw and the vegetables were appalling. It was at this point, we got up and decided to leave. I have never done this before in my life but to be honest, I just wanted to get out of their. My poor mum had to be helped out and the other customers made comments on how awful our food was and they would have done the same. From start to finish… it was awful. The Ship is 100% not a restaurant… it’s a pub and all staff need a lesson in customer service!

Having seen on Facebook that there was a new menu we thought we’d give it a try First two pumps turned round and then two men returned their beer and the third pump turned. Not good for a Saturday lunch time with a party expected and tonight a Halloween experience I had the ‘new’ antipasto board. surely you can’t go wrong with this…you can if the humus is totally tasteless and served with jacobs cream crackers!!! I did mention this to the server saying I hoped it was constructive criticism. Overall I feel that maybe there isn’t a chef on duty but someone who prepared food. So very pleased that our friends whom we had invited to join us couldn’t make it.

Absolutely brilliant Lovely staff made to feel very welcome. 4 paws friendly Teddy the dog was welcomed as much as I was. A few gins (nice selection) and lunch Food was excellent with generous portions (I could not finish mine) the pie is lovely with a good pastry and generous filling, battered cod looked brilliant, they clearly take pride in the food served. Teddy was well catered for with a drink of water offered and not an eyelid battered when I ordered a portion of cooked chicken for him and even a napkin for his chops. His chicken was cut ready for him and complete with the skin, his empty bowl spoke volumes Will definitely return

Went to the pub for a meal the bar staff didn't know how to serve a bitter shandy when it arrived it was not the best,we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our food order no one showed up so we left and found a far more friendly restaurant. Wouldn't recommend this place for food or service..

A great location with excellent views of the river. The bar was under staffed with only one person serving and hence queues to order drinks or food on a Friday lunch time. The food was OK and whilst they got the order wrong (is it really that difficult?) I would rate it as satisfactory. Such a shame. Perhaps try The Pier next time.

Great place for food which is indeed cooked after you order it but be aware of the time implications of this. Our meal was excellent preparation took about an hour. Just needs to be taken account of when planning.

Saturday evening out with friends for a few drinks & something to eat. Fairly busy lively bar with a excellent selection of beers & wine. Service was excellent, Molly behind the bar was excellent. Food service was good and a varied menu with plenty of choices. The sharing nachos to start were awesome, good portion with plenty of toppings. 2 of us had the ribs that fell off the bone with plenty of chips & salad. Girls had a mix of sharing starters which they enjoyed. Really nice evening.

Gave this pub a second chance but the service was just as bad. The place was empty we ordered food and after an hour and still waiting we left. We will definitely not be returning. So many great places around so avoid this one and go anywhere else but there. Just seen the reply I received and there was no one before us. There was 2 people at the bar 2 outside and us then 3 more people turned up 15 minutes after us. Maybe you should check your cctv again we waited an hour and then left.

Went to The Ship today for my birthday meal, 10 of us all together, food was amazing, everybody loved their meals and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating, highly recommended 😀

Waited an age for 3 plates wings , calamari and prawns Got onion rings mixed in with the calamari, prawns and no wings . Finally got the wings. All tasted greasy with a bitter after taste. Cheap tasting food £20 for 3 plates! Warm wine Wouldn't recommend

Went here for lunch today that turned out to be dinner due to time waiting, Then requested a refund as could not wait for supper !!!! staff said would be a 45 minute wait that turned out to be over 2.5hrs shocking. Kept being told that our roast was out next I know it was welsh lamb but did not realise we was waiting for the lamb to arrive from its native country.

My partner and I went for lunch today last minute, as my partner has been here multiple times in the past and had told me how nice it was. When we arrived the bar maid was polite and welcoming and we asked for a table for two and were passed two menus and she explained the ordering process to us and told us to find a table. We looked over the menu, it was quite standard Kentish pub grub, lots of local fish and things on the menu. Our waiter arrived at our table and I asked for the sausage and mash, he said yep no problem and then disappears before taking my partners order, he comes back and says we have no gravy is that okay? I said no it’s okay I’ll choose something else so he disappears again and I go back to the menu to find something else I fancy (I don’t eat fish so wasn’t lots on there to my taste) he comes back again and says he can pop out and grab some gravy if I wanted the sausage and mash. I was half pleased half dumbfounded, and I said that would be grand thank you! So off he pops and 20mins or so later he comes back with a co-op bag full of gravy. We then didn’t see him for another 10 mins so assumed he must be in the kitchen helping to sort out what ever issue they seemed to be having today (lots of staff complaining in the pub and people being pulled for private conversations). He comes back again and asks if I still wanted the sausage and mash I said absolutely yes please, and can I also order the scampi and chips for my partner please? He almost walked away before I could order my partners meal for him as he was outside. We waited all of about 15 mins from placing our order to getting it brought out which was good timing, when my sausage mash and seasonal veg arrived it was what looked like 2 jumbo sausages from the chip shop, mash that was most definitely microwaved (dry, dense, not fluffy) and some peas that I had just seen a frozen bag of being brought through. The menu said food was freshly prepared so wait times could be a while, but I think we may have spent longer waiting for the gravy than was spent cooking the meals. We finish our food and within a minute or two we were asked if we were finished so we said yes thank you and two waiters clear the table. About 3 minutes after that our waiter comes over with the card machine and tells us how much our meals were, no offer of desserts or anything just a card machine thrust towards us and a “that’s £££ please guys”. As it happens we did want a dessert but the chaotic service, delivery being walked into the kitchen past our table and negative comments being bandied around by staff about their colleagues made us think sod this let’s just go home. Also the menu says that the desserts are freshly made each week so the menu varies but the delivery we saw coming in past our table contained a whole lot of frozen cakes. All in all our visit started out well but ended with us making a quick get away, after paying the bill that we in fact wanted to spend more on but felt we were being rushed out of the door.

The Ship Tavern is a great little pub with friendly staff and excellent food. The ribs are fantastic, and the atmosphere is cosy and traditional. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal and a friendly place to relax.

This is a nice setting by the Medway Estuary, especially on a nice day.. The welcome was friendly and accommodating. However the menu is not the one on the website - much smaller and dull pub average. We had to enquire several times about our order and waited nearly an hour and a half for the food. The whole place is shabbier than before and has gone downhill.

Delighted by the excellent customer service from this establishment. I can only speak well of the landlord and landlady, who went the extra mile for me. I highly recommend the Ship Tavern. Thank you for your attention.

Disappointing to say the least. What has happened to this pub. It used to be brilliant. Food mediocre, we waited over an hour for food to appear. Such a shame. Will not be returning.

Food is lovely but slightly let down by the finishing touches. For example the ketchup and mayo is basically the cheapest you can buy and cutlery is all bent. However overall a lovely place to eat and watch the world go by

The only good thing about this place is the view. Rubbish service and after waiting forever for two lunch dishes, we only got one - a miserable and burnt looking plate of whitebait and a bit of salad that has no dressing on it. No cutlery, no condiments, no tissues. The staff couldn’t care less it seems. Save your money for Os Camacheiros literally a minute or two down the road. Delicious food and staff who actually seem to give a monkeys about their customers.

Upon reading reviews on here, I was very dubious on coming. Very sceptical. But never judge a book by its cover. But what a beautiful and friendly pub it is. Overlooking boats by the river with my wife and children was lovely, food was about 25 mins wait but the kiddies loved the nuggets, all freshly cooked and made, so timing wasn't that bad considering the decked area and the front of the pub was full with people. The gentleman and lady behind the bar (husband and wife i believe) was more then accommodating, we was asked if we would like anymore drinks to our table, we was told upcoming events, even got told about the play area for the kids out in the back garden, which our children loved and did not want to leave. Seeing friendly faces when walking into a public place is so nice to see nowadays. Greeted with a "Hello and how is your day"? can make you feel very welcomed. Thank You for your hospitality. We will be returning very soon.

Lovely Gem of a pub, very friendly staff and extremely helpful. Would highly recommend people visit if wanting a drink or with your family. There is something for everyone and was made to feel very comfortable.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB you will wait years for cold bad quality food . The land lady is a complete sausage she completely ignores the crap service terrible food rude staff (her being the worst) ! Nightmare visit, the pub garden was empty yet waited over an hour and half for food which with 2 hungry kids is bad enough. The food was not worth the wait the bun was burnt on the outside but soggy on the inside, (I don't even know how that can be done) sides were missing. The staff haven't got a clue!! The toilet smelt rank!! The garden is a mess. If you can't provide a good quality service then don't bother!!!

Travelled up to the ship from Sidcup for a family day out we was recommended by a friend we see advertised on Facebook they was doing a bbq for Father’s Day. When we arrived we was served by the land lady I believe her name was Sam and she was absolute lovely so welcoming and friendly. When we went over to order the food there was lots of choices what was on the menu and the was 4 side dishes with pasta,potato salad, coleslaw, Greek salad and it was unlimited, the staff was constantly topping it up so it wasn’t running low the food was lovely couldn't fault it we will be definitely back and we would 100% recommend to our friends and family

A really lovely spot for a pub and nice staff…but we ordered food and waited 40 minutes before they came out to tell us that one of the items wasn’t available-(on a quiet Wednesday afternoon) we then weren’t able to order much else as it was all out of stock. We then waited another half an hour and still no food, so we left

In January this year we went to the Ship for fish and chips, fantastic quality, good portion, not dry and great batter. We went last week, oh dear, the fish was dry, flat batter, clearly brought in frozen and ready battered, and £15.00, very disappointing, won't be going there again. Its a shame as the potential for this place to be a hub for those in search of quality food has been wasted.

Really bad service. Was handed two cans of coke - no offer of a glass or ice. Wr said we wanted to order food and the barmaid said she would bring us a menu - waited over half an hour and then just left. I wouldn’t bother.
