Had a Sunday lunch for 2, my wife had previously been and rated this village pub part of the Greene King group. In a way the pub is traditional with a bar, restaurant layout but with a COVID canopy with booth style tables. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The draught beer on offer was a Greene King summer brew and a guest ale from Hardy & Hansons, Old Trip. Very reasonably priced at £4.80. We both had a roast, I had beef and my wife pork. My beef was plentiful but a little chewy but wife’s pork was good. The roast potatoes were very good and the vegetables were plentiful if a little soggy. There was a good sweet selection I had the apple pie with custard which was alright. I don’t know why there haven’t been any recent reviews but based on this visit I won’t be rushing back, sorry.

Visited here in December with a friend, the service was fabulous we had a great friendly waitress who was very knowledgeable about the GF range. I went for the fish curry and it was delicious and a great size too, we dint have any puddings as the main courses filled us both up. I can highly recommend the Malbec, great value & location. Have already arranged with friends to visit again in Feb.

Revisited after a bad experience at this pub previously. Small choices of starters and deserts. Food was average, basic pub food, edible but not exceptional. Two of us ordered steak’s and weren’t impressed, but the halloumi burger was nice. Wouldn’t rush to return.

We ate here last night. We (family of 4) had a lovely evening. We loved the pods and felt very Covid secure (staff all in masks, sanitiser to use everywhere). Lovely and warm thanks to the ‘fire pit’. A great choice of food for all tastes and absolutely delicious. Sorry you’re going into tier 4, will definitely be back when you re-open. Thanks for looking after us.

We visited recently for a family Christmas dinner. This pub is better organised against Covid than many others. Separate pods are used for each table. Food and drinks are delivered to the end of the table, so we then take them ourselves. The staff all wear masks and there is plenty of sanitiser around. The food was pretty good too. I had a delicious seafood bake and my wife had an excellent pork belly. Service was good, despite the pub being busy. The pods are outside, but under a heated marquee. Would we go back? Definitely.

Never had a bad meal or experience here! The food has always been spot on and the staff are always so much fun, helpful and friendly! The standard menu vegetarian offering is ok but the special vegetarian meals are always really tasty/exciting. One of my favourite meals was the mushroom burger with all the trimming, chips, onion rings, home made slaw etc. My partner always really enjoyed the steak, the meat was good quality and cooked just as requested. Highly recommend eating here!

Food was OK. It wasn't bad, we ate everything. But nothing special and probably not as you might expect when compared to menu descriptions. For example, my chips with Fox Chicken were HARD. Overcooked ? When you stuck a fork in (any of them in any qty) they just snapped. You HAD to eat them with your fingers. Portions were good. Well laid out. We ate in one of the pods outside. Attentive & friendly staff. Not as careful as the Covid plan would say but still good and better than many others. I believe they are offering a 25% discount on food (food only) throughout September and it is VERY good value due to that.

I regularly went to the fox pre COVID, however I wanted to comment on quite how well they have responded to the current “post COVID era”. For many pubs, it’s been a hinderance, made the experience worse, however with the fox, I actually think the opposite. The out door “pods” for dining are superb. Romantic and enjoyable, and the service is on point as always. Great service, friendly staff and great pub food. They’ve worked really hard to make people feel safe post the pandemic, but in reality, I actually think they’ve made it better with whole experience and I’m not aware of anywhere where you feel as safe as you do here. And the burger is amazing too...

We came across this gem of a pub when were on our way to The Manor Farm. So glad we did find it as it made our stop over so pleasant. The manager is friendly and can recommend the best beverages the food is simply divine and wont break the bank, whilst the service was quick and professional. Although we hadn't booked we were quickly seated and attended to. I can recommend the Gin and tonic mixer very reasonable! This pub is set in a beautiful village with a couple of peacocks strutting around with a gorgeous church across the road. Take time to explore a bit of the history of this charming place. Can definately recommend The Fox and when we are visiting the William's factory again we will be making a bee line for our pub lunch here.

Haven't been here for some while so popped in one Saturday for lunch. There must have been 25 already in there !! Luckily a table (3 in fact) was free so it wasn't a problem at all.Despite the other diners - luckily they were already eating - service was friendly & efficient. My wife enjoyed her salad very much and I was quite taken by a Lamb Suet Pudding (different). But, it lacked a bit of filling (ratio seemed too much suet by far), had bone (an odd bit which my teeth didn't appreciate), was actually very dry and the gravy 'topping' was gravy with some mint sauce thrown in. I have to say, although I ate it, it was disappointing. It wouldn't put me off, other meals all looked good, and I would go back again no problem. I just wouldn't eat that again.

Five of us visited on a Saturday night. The service was slow which was fine as it was busy and the staff were very friendly. Has breaded Brie to start. Straight out the freezer. Nothing special. All the burgers were priced the same. I had the mushroom burger, another in our party, the black and blue. His looked really tasty with two rounds of black pudding and two slices of Stilton. Mine was two small mushrooms filled with leaks that tasted slightly of Stilton. Bit poor considering the comparison and the comparable price. When I complained, they kindly brought two slices of Stilton, but a bit late by that stage. Wouldn’t go again out of choice.

Have always considered The Fox a good standby & still ok but don't think as good as used to be. Had the senior special menu - a good portion of whitebait , a not so good portion of steak & kidney pie (about 3 mouthfuls) , the golden syrup pud was as nice as usual and for £12.95 for 3 courses not a bad deal. Went on a tues lunch time & was pretty dead, therefore lacked a bit of atmosphere. Staff friendly & the menu is pretty extensive.

We all had 3 courses and they were served in a reasonable time, the quality and portion size were good and the food was served hot. After the first two courses I was feeling full but couldn't resist a pudding as there were some tempting offerings! There was real ale served by hand pump available including Theakston's Old Peculiar and a seasonal beer call Rocking Rudolph! We have been regular visitors to The Fox for many years and have always had an enjoyable experience. I wanted to say again that the quality of the food is superb, the service attentive and pleasant and the whole offers excellent value for money. In addition, they will always go the extra mile. Yesterday at lunch my daughter found the dish she had ordered was a little too spicy for her taste. I only choose to give good reviews as we simply vote with our feet if the pubs we choose aren't as good as we expect, after all it has been our choice to go there in the first place. However in this instance I must break a rule. The fact that I give any rating at all is because of the pub's location. We visited The Fox today 9th July.We arrived at about 1.20. We always go to the bar first. There was a male mid to late 40's hovering in the doorway behind the bar doing something with his mobile phone. He came out to the bar and continued with his phone totally ignoring my husband and I. He continued to do things with his phone and then picked it up and went back into the other room. He then came back with a bucket and did something with one of the pumps. (Don't lose faith I am setting the scene). This went on for about 5 minutes. At no point did this person look at us. At no point did he talk to us or his phone. We acknowleged the fact that we were wasting our time and left. Never to return.I am unable to comment on the food for obvious reasons.

We booked a 2-course Christmas lunch at the Fox for 10 adults and 9 children this weekend and following a 3.5mile walk to get there we were certainly ready for a warm welcome and some delicious food. The welcome was lovely and we weren't disappointed. They had laid an adult table and a children's table next to one another which was perfect. The staff offered for the children's meals to come with our starters and again their puddings while we were eating our mains which worked very well for us. All the food was lovely, fresh, hot and the staff were extremely accommodating and attentive to our needs. Portion wise I thought they were very generous and the children too had good amounts. We did ask for extra gravy but again nothing seemed to be a problem for the staff. We don't go out very often and were looking forward to our meal, having read some great reviews on here. I ordered the chicken provencal and my husband the duck. When my chicken arrived it was totally out-facing. I like my food, but 2 chicken breasts on the bone and a wing seems a little excessive! The chicken was bland, no seasoning. I suspect it had been microwaved as the skin was very limp. The sauce poured on top was disappointing and unfortunately had not flavoured the chicken at all. It was served on a bed on wet, soggy rice and was swimming in water at the bottom. My husband's duck was cooked well but his vegetables were soggy and were drowned in an overpowering sauce tasting of liquorice. His rice was also very wet. Just a really disappointing meal. Won't be returning and won't be recommending.

Ordered a lamb steak - below average but edible. Ordered an apple crumble with custard for dessert...8mins later the waitress put what can only be described as a lump of microwaved apples sprinkled with dry oats sugar and cinnamon topped with a thick layer of the blobby custard. Clearly it had just been shoved and blasted in the microwave for 5mins and then sent out of the kitchen! Meal was just a disappointment. Soo many better resturants around oxfordshire. We have visited The Fox on several occasions and the food has been fine. However, yesterday evening my partner decided that we didn't fancy cooking and that we'd book a table for dinner. We shared our starters which were ok. Then we chose steak pie and moussaka (which was on the specials menu). The moussaka was brought out and I can only describe it as a mess on a gratin dish. My partner and I looked at each other. I love moussaka but this looked nothing like one. It was topped by a grey looking something that resembled dripping. I tasted it and it had the texture of dripping but tasted of nothing I could put my finger on, just unpleasant. We waited for the young girl to come over and when she appeared we had to get her attention. I told her I wasn't happy and didn't like the taste (horrible is what I said) and she asked what I wanted her to do!! She didn't have a clue what she should do in these circumstances. I suggested she took it away and talk to the chef or her manager. After a while she asked if I would like to look at the menu again. I told her no as I wanted to eat with my partner and he'd almost finished. We asked for our bill. She brought the bill and we were charged for the moussaka. We asked if we could have this taken off the bill. During this time neither the chef or the manager came over to apologise or to see if everything was ok. The manager was in the room and the pub wasn't busy at the time. We paid our updated bill and promptly left. Passed the manager on our way out and he just said "Goodbye". It was a very disappointing dinner and it has put us off visiting The Fox again.

I always have this and my family have enjoyed other dishes from the menu and say they are brilliant and get equally excited to visit. The garden is gorgeous, the tranquility and the setting, is second to none. The prices are so much more reasonable when compared to King Alfred's Head in the market square, we would always travel to eat here for the quality of the food, service and amazing value. The Fox is a lovely thatched country pub. There is an extensive menu and weekly special menu so you are spoilt for choice. The food is excellent and service is friendly and efficient. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Fox for any occasion.

The Landlord, Steve cannot do enough to make his customers feel welcome. He provides many themed night with good food and entertainment; a steak night on Sundays, Ladies nights and many other. In the winter there is always a roaring log fire to greet guests.

Although it is a few miles out of Wantage, the Fox Inn is worth driving into the countryside to visit. It is just what you would like an English country inn to beFor winter visitors there is the comfort of a nice open fire in the bar area. It was cosy, even at lunch time on a cold day. No false economy was made in the heating - very wise! Outside, there is a garden for summer drinking and eating and the restaurant could take a reasonable sized party. The decor is rustic, and it is obvious that Steve and Emma, the owners, care about the ambiance of their domain. The bunches of fresh daffodils on the dining room tables were a nice little touch. The menu is extensive and varied, from sandwiches and jackets, to a very nice selection of main courses, with daily specials, and of course traditional favourite puddings. All are reasonably priced and the portions are not mean. We were particularly impressed with the generous seniors' menu and any establishment offering this should be applauded. At time of writing, there is a Ladies Night on a Monday. There is also a good wine list. Although we were a party of eight, we were attended to promptly and efficiently by the very pleasant and helpful staff. This must have been one of the most pleasant pub lunches in the Oxfordshire area that I have had for a long time. All the members of the party, who are also appreciative of good food and fussy about where they eat, intend to return. I look forward also to enjoying an evening meal there in the not too distant future. The inhabitants of Denchworth must be very pleased to have The Fox in their village.(The car park is not huge, so if visiting as a group, it would be sensible to share cars, if you want to use the car park, rather than park on the village road.)

We were visiting this part of Oxfordshire/Wiltshire/Berkshire and the landlord of our B&B recommended the Fox and said we should book - which was a good thing as dogs are welcome in the bar area but there are only a few tables - there is a larger dining room too, and it was a busy Friday night. The staff were very welcoming and we had a gin and tonic in front of the fire on comfy sofas while we looked at the (very long!) menu. The pub is owned by the brewery, I think, which meant the wine list is controlled by them too, and is not desperately exciting, but the food (not controlled by the brewery!) more than made up for that. We shared starters - calamari, with chilli dip, and a houmous and tzaziki platter. I chose a gorgeous steak, huge and cooked (rare) to perfection, and himself had the steak and kidney pie. Really generous servings, so much so that puddings were out of the question. It made me think that they should do half size portions of puds for those whose eyes are bigger than their tummies!Great service, and a lovely atmosphere - thoroughly recommended.

This may be local to me, but I find no matter how often you go to The Fox to eat the food and service are second to none. Always a great veriation on the Specials menu, which means no matter how may times you go there is always variety!

A lovely thatched cottage pub with an airy, spacious dining room attached. A bit selection of meals including vegetarian. Things like homemade steak and kidney pie on the menu. A large selection of desserts, for a pub. We all chose Banoffee Baked Alaska because it was different. Nice wines, but being a pub also beers and soft drinks. We like the pictures on the wall in the dining room too! Dress warmly, even at this time of year the dining room is on the cool side.

My wife and I stumbled upon this pub one Friday lunchtime, and are really glad we stopped! We had lunch in the garden, which looked tidy and well maintained. The furniture is solid! We found the staff friendly and helpful. The food we thought very good without being exceptional. The whole village setting is beautiful and peaceful. All in all, well worth a visit. We will certainly be going again.

A classic English pub, nice atmosphere, good beer and good food, but food dominates and on a Saturday night you can't sit down unless you are eating. You need to book a table as well as it gets very busyFood is nice. Good choice, nicely cooked, nicely presented. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The Fox is a really quite charming village pub. The interior is stylish yet traditional, with modern flourishes in between the sympathetically restored original features. There is a good sized, comfortable bar area around the entrance and then a large dining room at the other end of the building.Having ordered drinks, and perused the menus at the bar we made our way into the dining room for our starters. I opted for the Deep Fried Brie, which consisted of three chunks of brie in a breadcrumb coating. I'm fairly certain these weren't homemade and the flavour was very disappointing. The oiliness of the coating was all I could really taste, the brie failed to make an impact on my tastebuds. This was served with a cranberry dip and salad, neither of which were anything to write home about (I assume the cranberry dip was from a jar rather than fresh). For my main, I opted for the Broccoli and Cheddar Pancake. What arrived was a huge plate of food, certainly enough to fill me up! Again though, the taste just wasn't there. The creamy cheese sauce in the pancake was passable, but needed more seasoning and something to give it that extra "oomph", This was served with chips, which were fine, though I doubt homemade, and salad which lacked any kind of dressing. After finishing my main, I was absolutely stuffed so opted not to go for a dessert, although my sister appeared to enjoy the sweet pancakes she ordered. There were only three other parties dining that evening and two waiting staff looking after the room, however we still had to go to the bar ourselves to order drinks as we weren't offered any. The service also lacked any real enthusiasm, staff would put food on the table and then just rush off as quickly as possible without checking to see if there was anything else we needed. Having paid the bill, we left our table and walked through the bar area to the door without a thankyou or goodbye. It was hardly as if the staff were too busy to do this!Overally, this is actually quite a nice little pub, but the food is very much "pub grub" fayre that may have been acceptable ten years ago, but which falls somewhat below the mark today.

Amazing little Riverside pub. Overlooks a very nice part of the Thames, and I believe the pub is hundreds of years old, so it adds to the aesthetic. Great place!
