Visited three times over the course of a week whilst staying in the village. Food was consistently excellent, in fact the burger I had was one of the best I’ve ever had. Good atmosphere, service and prices. What more could you ask for.

Me and my husband went for a Sunday lunch (12th November 2023) The food was amazing, very large portions! Pigs in blankets were also a very good size, cauliflower cheese is the best I’ve tasted! The girl behind the bar couldn’t do enough for us both, very friendly, liked to have a laugh which made us both have a wonderful Experience. We even had desert and that was also very delicious! Credit to you all where it’s due. We will see you soon Lamb and Flag!

We were visiting the area as a family unit for a few days. On the first evening we decided to visit this pub, which was very busy. We sat by the fire and enjoyed a lovely meal and drinks. It was all very pleasant. The service was good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. I asked about booking Sunday lunch there but they were fully booked.

The Lamb and Flag is an interesting conundrum. First impressions, which are so so important, are disappointing. The paint on the windows frames at the front is flaking in several places and both the website and answer phone message suggest that it is closed and only open for take away. If I hadn’t been there previously for a drink I would have assumed that they had not survived the pandemic. First impressions to one side, we did eventually manage to book Sunday lunch and it wasn’t bad at all. Plenty of good quality vegetables, delicious cauliflower cheese and a choice of three meats. If you’re a veggie you might be a little disappointed as, on the day we visited, the only non-meat option offered was vegetarian sausages (which were very nice). We weren’t offered a dessert (do they do them or was this a simple oversight?). This is a small pub and the economics of making this place pay (especially with socially distanced tables) must be a real challenge. As far as I am aware this is the only pub in the village and therefore deserves to be supported. The hosts are friendly and attentive and it was encouraging to hear that they were fully booked for lunch. We will return to try the mid-week fayre and occasionally for Sunday lunch. I will also use it for the odd pint now and again.

Didn't like the look of the outside of the building - very tatty and rubbish bins everywhere. Inside the pub looked dirty and very scruffy, and I almost walked straight out. However, the young staff were very friendly, so we ordered our drinks and roast dinners. Have to say that the food was excellent - very large portions and all served very hot. All a bit odd - no one appeared to be in charge. Probably wouldn't return.

After a leisurely drive round the countryside from our Oxford caravan park one Sunday morning in mid June, we were ready for a Sunday Roast and kept our eyes open for a typical British pub. We happened upon The Lamb and Flag in Hailey. The pub looked inviting and as the notice board outside said, "Sunday Roast" we parked the car and duly went in. We were greeted very pleasantly by the owner's sister who provided us with a Bill of Fare but we said that we knew what we wanted and that was the Sunday Roast. Whilst waiting I enjoyed a house red wine and my husband enjoyed a cider. The quality and quantity of the lunch itself could not be bettered, with the plentiful vegetable dishes overflowing. The beef was succulent and the cauliflower cheese was so moorish it was almost a meal in itself. We were too full for a pudding and finished off with a coffee. The service was efficient and friendly and it was good to enjoy the atmosphere of a great British pub - well done to the new(ish) chef owner and his sister and we will definitely come again when we are in the Cotsolds.

We asked to hold a wake here following a funeral. The staff were very accommodating with excellent communication prior to the event. Opening up the doors early for those who had travelled, to use the facilities before the funeral . Afterwards, very welcoming, great selection of good quality food, gluten intolerance and vegetarians catered for well, with plenty of choice. Takeaway containers were provided too which was a lovely touch. The pub was smart, clean and welcoming to locals and visitors alike and it made a sad day very much easier for us all. A huge thank you to the staff.

However we went for my mum’s birthday today and the pub looks and feels bare and cold and not very welcoming, and the food was honestly the worst food I have eaten in the last 25 years. We have been to the pub for Sunday roast many times and went for one a week ago after not having been for a few months. We were first of all surprised at how quiet it was considering how packed on a Sunday it used to be. Good beer and were offered two choices of roast, beef or chicken. We both had the beef. Oh dear, the beef was terrible, so chewy i could not eat it. Roast spuds were only just cooked and the carrots looked as though they had been kept warm for hours. When asked if all was OK I said no and was offered a change but from what I had on my plate I did not think a new dish would be any better. The cauliflower cheese and broccoli were very good Not sure what has happened to this pub but I doubt we will return.

The organiser had pre-booked for approximately 20 people on a Friday night at 7:30. We were seated in tables of 4-6 and were advised the waitress would take the orders in turn. We were the third table to order and ordered scampi and chips and ham and chips from the very basic menu. At 9:00 pm with no sign of any food I enquired of the waitress of when we might expect food. (We also noted that two tables seated after us had been served). She returned to say there was still a table of four before us. At this my husband and my friends partner said they had waited long enough and we were leaving. As we reversed out of the car park a man in chefs clothing ran out of the back and said are you table three? To this I responded I don't know but we are leaving as we have waited an hour and a half for pretty basic food and there is still a table before us! At this he started verbally abusing me telling me to f--k off and never come to this pub again you old s--g! He then proceeded to chase the car down the road flicking the V sign and repeating the above!!! Apparently he then returned to the pub where someone who had witnessed the whole escapade said to him his behaviour was totally unacceptable. At this he became very emotional.(As an aside the table who were before us complained about the food which was very poor and were given free sweets and drinks and someone else waited until past 10:00pm before their food arrived). As an aside the fish and chips from the meridian fish bar was delicious and a bloody site cheaper!! Upset the chef at this pub at your peril! In my job I would be sacked if I spoke to people like this and perhaps this man(I hesitate to call him a chef) is in the wrong job!!

Always lots of guest ales, ciders and lagers to choose from. The selection of food on the menu is outstanding., vegetarian fish (haloumi cheese in batter) with home made chips or lamb mint burgers are just 2 of the specials on offer. As for the portions, well it's not very often that I don't finish a meal, but here I fail everytime. Well, my parents obviously went on an 'off' night judging by previous reviews. They went last night as they live locally & had heard such good reports on the food. Sadly they were extremely disappointed. Dad's fish n chips ; frozen fish and cold chips. Mum's chicken, bacon, chorizo sandwich type thing inedible. She said chicken was insipid, like it had just been microwaved, bacon very undercooked & chorizo uncooked & tough. She described it as 'disgusting' and fed it to the dog. I asked her if she had sent the food back & she said no, as she didn't want to make a fuss. Therefore I felt compelled to voice their disappointment here. A shame as they wanted to support the pub & make going there for a meal a weekly event. Alas, this will not be happening.

I can recommend the ham, egg and chips. A hearty meal at a very reasonable price. It's not a fancy wanna be restaurant but good honest pub grub. The beer garden is a good size and lots of people sat out on a summers evening. There are a few things for the kids and despite being a little tired or games incomplete are perhaps not used often enough to justify further investment by the pub. I'm really sorry, because I never complain but I was so disappointed when my friend said she had booked us a table and we arrived here. Firstly, the building has no love and the 'car park' looks like some local yobs hideout.. Dinghy, dark and grubby. When entering we could tell of course it is busy on a Saturday night, mainly full of locals and people in casual attire making a lot of noise. The building is just tired and common. I hate to see clutter and plastic signs pinned around about CCTV. The bar lady seemed to know nothing about our dinner booking and 'got us a table' between a shabby pool table with broken clutter underneath and a games machine (games machine right behind my seat) Perhaps I am biased because I work at a 4* Cotswold hotel with a 2 rosette restaurant, but there are many good country pubs with amazing food so competition is critical! So about the food.. Just terrible. I have no doubt that the Sunday lunch may be good but the menu for evening was so minute and then after waiting AN HOUR for food, the steak was just awful. The chef even admitted after the meal that the cut and quality of meat was not good and he should of sent it back, instead I am sat waiting an hour to be served a £19.50 dish I can't eat. Literally, my knife would not go through the gristle and fatty meat. What I didn't say was that I also found a hair in my meal, short black and wavy. Yummy! The meal was made worse by the fact that some of the locals started playing the game machine behind me and their shouting and clunking is not an enjoyable way to dine after coming straight from my work place wanting to unwind. Just a hint that your locals are putting off your future business! Not expectable. The same bar lady had spoken to the chef about my half price off the meal yet gave me a full price bill expecting me to pay. My friend kindly reminded her that I have half off because I couldn't eat my food, so she then halved the total bill ... Even though we said we were paying separately! At this point I was quite angry and I apologise that I rudely snapped that half of £19.50 was not £16. But even the £12 I paid is a lot for a few chips and a soft drink. Not good to see the staff smoking next to the outside toilet either! This place is horrid and won't be going back again. I am seriously upset because I never dine out much and I came prepared to pay for good food after a long working day and an early start in the morning and then I arrive, hungry, and get this.. Thanks.

We have previously been in for a drink and have been told by several people we must try the food. We weren't dissapointed! The beef was melt in your mouth and the crackling on the pork when it came (he he) was superb. It is excellent value for money as along with the usual lunch you get a huge bowl of homemade cauliflower chese which was delicious! We will definately be coming back!

We popped in for an early evening drink, on a cold January afternoon, and were welcomed by the staff, to a beautiful roaring fire, a smile, and a decent pint. The menu looks good , pub fare at VERY reasonable prices, and specially for children, there is a £1 meal on Monday and Tuesday evenings! We will return, to eat, very soon,

The menu has chips with (almost) everything, and you won't get gourmet cuisine. But the meals are nicely cooked, and the portions are generous. If you happen to be a pensioner, you can get a two course weekday meal at lunchtimes for £8. We were greeted by a real log fire and a warm welcome, and the service was prompt and friendly.

Had a three night stay at the Bell loved it! I extended our stay by a night and couldn’t get the same room as our original booking not disappointed in any way. Our first night was in Teasel a lovely room plenty of room with a nice shower wash room. Nice big comfortable bed. Friday and Saturday night we stayed in the room Hazel it’s situated above the barn. Amazing room with great views across countryside. This room is big loads of space to chill after a busy day in the Cotswolds. A super king sized bed and lovely shower /bathroom (huge bath). We weren’t going to dine at the Bell but as we had booked the extra night decided to have evening meal and breakfast on our first night. Both meals were delicious so also booked for Friday evening again delicious. The staff at the Bell are all very friendly and helpful hard working as whatever we asked nothing was too much trouble whatsoever . Thanks to all at the Bell for making our first visit to the Cotswolds a very special experience. Richard and Keeli x

Chip portions not consistent, seem to get fewer and fewer. Asked for battered sausage and it came without batter, second time in a row. Lost our custom.

Following a family emergency, I rang to cancel my table and was charged £70 without my permission. They will say it's on the website, however it wasn't prominent enough for me to notice during the booking process. We had been before and found the food OK and the staff a little arrogant but wanted to try again as hoped it was an anomaly as the surroundings are lovely. There will not be a third time, I have been told by several people that this business makes a loss, that is hearsay and I can't confirm that but after this cynical charge, it would seem they have to make money at all costs.
