The best restaurants serving British food in South East

A friend and I booked for 1200 on a Sunday. As soon as we arrived, there was a sign on the front door "No Sunday Lunches", which was a huge disappointment. I had looked at the extensive menu online prior to arriving there, and I had another option in mind. The chicken and Ribs. We arrived and were taken to our table. There were only 3 other parties sitted down, which I thought was a bit strange, as this establishment was usually packed out on a Sunday. We were handed a limited menu with the standard pub grub items. No grill items, no Chicken or burger items either. No chicken and ribs. My friend and I decided to go elsewhere. The cleanliness of the pub is shocking. The carpets looked like they haven’t been hoovered and cob webs on pictures. Since Marstens have taken over from Brains, it has severely gone down hill.

Great food, simply well cooked. Nice portion and hot. Well priced. Great coffee Good service Comfortable surroundings

Good stop for lunch with MIL. Excellent fish pie and ice cream Came back for Sunday Lunch. Being Veggie I usually lose out However this was the best Nut Roast I have had in a pub😎 Meg looked after us really well and was excellent. Will be back on Thursday for another lunch.

We usually go to the Westgate Nando’s since it’s closer, but one night around 9pm they sent us over to this one, and honestly, no regrets. We’re big Nando’s fans already, and this spot totally delivered. Food was great (as always), and the staff were super friendly and competent. Also, if you head in late, you might score a little bonus treat they’d otherwise toss out. (You didn’t hear it from me.) Love that Nando’s keeps the good vibes wherever you go!

Wow! what a fantastic pub. We had lunch in the outside decking area the food was great, the staff were very friendly and efficient. The Pub is an amazing building full of oldie world charm and atmosphere. look forward to visiting again, highly recommend.

A breakfast trip. Nice atmosphere, clearly popular. The app said 13 minutes for food but it was at least 20. Ordered grilled tomato with my breakfast but it was stone cold even though you could see light charring. Complained and was brought replacements that had clearly been microwaved so they were red hot. Breakfast supposed to be until 12 but the menus were removed at 11.45. Jaipur ale was cloudy but tasted fine. Some reservations but breakfast and a pint for a tenner has got to be good.

We were a family group of mixed ages and mobility, the staff were so helpful about parking and answering our questions. We had a really great lunch. You can tell they have a proper chef, with creative and interesting dishes, all really well cooked. They were quite busy even on a weekday lunchtime but the service was attentive and friendly and helpful. Prices were slightly high but very reasonable indeed for the quality of food. There is a beautiful garden where you can eat outside but the weather was too bad. But it was comfortable in the garden room and in warmer weather you can go down to the river which runs past the bottom of the garden. I had the fish dish of the day and it was very good but we tried each others food and every one of us liked everything! . We would definitely go again to this place.

Stopped by for a quick bite, had the roast beef from the special menu and the food was excellent!

Thoroughly enjoyed a Sunday Roast. I had the small gluten free roast beef meal. Included gf gravy, stuffing and Yorkshire and Yorkshire pudding. Although described as small there were two large roast potatoes and a large boiled potato as well as a dish of vegetables. My son had the three meat option which was also excellent. Desserts looked good too but we were too full to manage one.

Booked it for a celebration for Nephew's birthday it was very busy. Loved the atmosphere and food but it was extremely busy on a lovely Sunday evening even at 6:30 pm. Loads of customers so service was a little slow however it did not ruin the food or the experience at this pub restaurant. One advice I would give beforehand is to book a table in advance just because it's very busy on most evenings and you don't want to be disappointed.

We received a very friendly welcome when we dropped in for lunch. The service was good and the food was excellent. I had a Moroccan tagine and my husband had a burger washed down with a pint of beer. I had a glass of white wine and a glass of red, both of which were wines I had not drunk before and I was offered a tasting of each before buying them. My husband was also offered a tasting of the beer he had as again it was not a brew he had experienced before.

Great stay, staff really friendly and the guy who runs it is great and really welcoming. Live music in the pub on the eve which was brilliant. Great location (can be a little noisy at night from outside) Breakfast was also really good great choice. Thank you! :)
