We got married here in September and can't recommend it highly enough. The events team are fantastic and supported us throughout the planning stages, always coming back quickly with answers to our questions and doing everything they could to accommodate our requests. Particular mention for how amazing Emily the events manager was in both the run up to the day and the day itself - she made the whole day run without a hitch and it was completely stress free. Her experience means she was able to fix problems before they even happened and anticipate every scenario. The team also did a wonderful job of dressing the room and the outside area, and even put everything back in the boxes they came in - a level of care and detail we really appreciate. Also a special mention for the food which was delicious and plentiful. No one went hungry, and the sharing food menus worked really well and added to the social atmosphere. The venue itself has lots of space both inside and out - we had space to dance a Ceilidh and there was plenty of seating for those not dancing inside, and doing our blessing under the willow tree was stunning! The riverside out the back is a beautiful spot for photos too. We really loved having our wedding here and we'll definitely be back to visit the pub again.

We arrived at the pub without a reservation and all they could offer was an outside table with no cover or heater. We accepted it but after a few minutes we really felt chilly obviously our fault not the pub's. The food came quite quickly- too quickly to be honest but it was very tasty but due to the environment it went very cold very quickly. It tasted good except for the roast potatoes which weren't crispy but very soft. I had an issue that they charged £9.45 for a small glass of wine- most places charge that for a 250ml but they charged for a 175ml complete rip off. Probably wouldn't revisit but it was just OK. Lovely fire in the bar area to thaw out from the terrace.

Wonderful location and look to the pub. Nice beer selection, cozy fireplace and friendly staff. However food was far too slow to be delivered. We got our pints and then had to wait almost 40 minutes before the food came out. Tables next to us waited even longer - we finished our meal and they had only just received their mains, despite arriving shortly after us. The waitress only gave them vague estimates and they were visibly annoyed. Apparently this was due to a wedding, but it just seems like poor planning that the kitchen/waitstaff were not prepared. It's not like they are unused to large parties/events. At the very least they could have warned guests that things would take longer than normal. Otherwise a nice experience and the food was very good.

Busy pub, need to book with excellent food and portions although not cheap. Just spoilt by noisy active dog inside restaurant. Dog too close to our table so luckily managed to change tables.

Cashless, overpriced and overrated pub that relies on its lovely location. Shocking that they flatly refused to take cash. Go elsewhere - there are so many better places in the city that still allow a choice of means of payment and which serve better food at lower prices.

Visited with my son and his partner who had been before and rated it very highly. We ordered 2 starters to share, warm bread & pork belly bites. My son ordered fish & chips, myself & his girlfriend ordered the Perch burger as mains. We were enjoying the starters which were gorgeous, chatting and catching up when the mains arrived! The small plates we were using for the starters were removed while we were still eating & the server went to remove what was left of the starters! We had to ask for them to be left. My burger was ok. The triple cooked chips however were, in my opinion, not triple cooked. They were very chunky and very dry. No amount of sauce helped. I've had some fantastic meals in Oxford, and this is the first disappointing experience. It definitely didn't live up to it's reputation on this occasion. I'll probably visit again in the future and will be hoping for a better experience.

Myself and three friends, having previously been to The Perch and throughly enjoying our experience decided to return for some drinks and lunch. Alas we were foolish and didn’t book a table, however we were lucky that they had a table available for us in their conservatory around 13:45 in the afternoon. The Perch offers a wide variety of local beers and ales, which was great to see. I had a pint of Hook Norton Ale and Yabba Dabba Doo IPA, I recommend both. For food I ordered the fish of the day, which was a Grilled Witch Sole, which was excellent. The vegetables served with it were well cooked and flavoursome. My friends ordered the Cod and Chips, the Burgee and the Vegan Burger, all of them were very happy with the food and appreciated value for money of their meals. To finish we had the Chocolate Delice dessert - which was really, really good. A delightful mousse, lovely honeycomb and a nice sauce to accompany it. Our dessert choice was recommended to us by our waitress, Orli. She was a wonderful, interactive and attentive waitress, who is a credit to the business, which made the outing more enjoyable. Thank you Orli. Finally, The Perch is less than a minute walk from the bank of the River Thames, which offers a mooring dock for boats, and wonderful views of the flood plains nearby - on a sunny day this is quite tranquil indeed. We will be returning again soon, and hope if you are reading this review you also try out The Perch. 🟦 Just for reference, The Perch does not take American Express credit cards.

Beautiful location, you can't fault that. How lucky they are to have such a wonderful historic location. The food was disappointing unfortunately. A definite lack of attention to detail and very ordinary in terms of taste, given the price. The service was ok, but staff seemed irritated and slap dash - also seemed to be a bit of discord between staff and management on the day we visited. No cash is accepted at this venue, which gives you very little choice with the service charge as it is automatically added to the bill.

The Perch is such a lovely place and we were lucky to be able to have a Sunday lunch celebration in the marquee after our wedding in Oxfordshire the day before. Emily and the team were amazing and got the vision of the day spot on throughout the whole process. The food was delicious and such friendly service as always (we are regular customers of the pub too). We would highly recommend having any wedding celebrations at the Perch and we thank the team again for playing a part in making our weekend so special!!

We often visit the Perch for a drink in their lovely garden, but one Sunday we tried there for lunch . Fully booked online but we chanced a walk-in and the staff were lovely and accommodating. Found us an excellent table , and the service was first class even though they were very busy . 2 of the party are gluten intolerant but the menu was very detailed as to what meals were suitable, which was most of them ! Not always the case . Sunday roasts and fish dishes were delicious, as were the puddings ! Highly recommend, especially for the amazing service

We got married at the Perch on June 22, 2024, and we literally could not be happier with how everything went. The outdoor space and marquee are BEAUTIFUL, and loads of wedding guests commented on how excellent our vegetarian feast was! (Many said it was the best wedding food they'd ever had) The staff were wonderful, before, during, and after the event! They helped us decorate, and everything ran perfectly on time :) And they packed everything up for us so it was ready to pick up the day after! And relative to the other venues we looked at, it was BY FAR the best value for money!! If you're considering The Perch as the venue for your big day, you won't be disappointed. In our post-wedding haze, we keep saying what a perfect choice it was for our day.

Great riverside pub, with excellent food and great service! The Perch is wheelchair accessible and the staff are very welcoming, friendly and supportive of wheelchair users. The car park is quite small for such a popular pub, but the gravel surface is OK. Wheelchair access via the front door has a level threshold, but will take careful manoeuvring if you have a larger powered wheelchair. Access to the beautiful riverside garden requires a temporary ramp, which the staff are only to happy to put in place. We received a warm welcome and great service from Drew throughout our visit (thank you Drew). We'll definitely visit again!

We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. Eighty guests ages ranging from 85 to 3. We hired the marquee which included a small private garden to the rear and open garden to the front. The marquee was large and spacious and well lit with party lights providing a fabulous setting. Subsequent letters from our guests praised the hospitality, the venue and the quality of the food provided. Emily, our hostess, was brilliant in assisting us to plan and organise the event. Thank you for making this such a memorable and special occasion.

We walked there from Jericho (about 30- 40 minutes) along a lovely rural path over the meadow with views of water, cows and flowers. This thatched pub with low ceilings is in a small, quiet and pretty village. The service was fairly quick and very good - we enjoyed the food. Most of our party had risotto, burgers or fish and chips. I liked the pea and mint soup starter. The wine list was good. There is ample sheltered seating outside, with strings of fairy lights in some of the trees. It was lovely and I would definitely go again.

Took my 96 year old Father, and we had a wonderful Sat afternoon. The staff were great, greeting us and ensuring Dad was safe with his walker to get to the table. Once seated our server Christian was superb. He took great care and time to talk to Dad, and we also had a great chat. The food was excellent, ambiance while a bit noisy, was still very good. The whole place is run very well, given it has been 30 years since I visited the perch and we will be back once my wife comes over from California. #Christianpeterson

On our visit, we met a Basil Fawlty in training. This venue was chosen as our annual Christmas get together given that we all live looking miles away from each other, and was mid-way point. The website offers so much, which unfortunately doesn't quite deliver. Parking was a nightmare. We witnessed a family with two cars leave their vehicle in the small car park to go off trekking across the countryside. The owners are quite happy to manage the customer flow to the toilets, but not who uses the car park. We ended up having to make our way through puddles and mud to get into the restaurant. We were seated quite quickly, and to be fair there was quite a nice Christmas atmosphere. Christmas menus dished out, and orders taken promptly. However...no Pinot??? (my partners drink of choice, not mine, i was driving...and hiking to get back to the car..) Food arrived quite quickly too. Portions weren't huge but was ok in terms of quality. However, when our server came to ask if everything was ok, just at the point of us answering his question the server was interrupted by one of his colleagues so he got distracted.....once he'd answered his colleagues question he turned to us with a curt (John Cleese style) Hmmmmmm?? As if it was OUR fault that we hadn't answered his question when HE was interrupted.....VERY VERY RUDE....He then had the audacity to add 12.% service charge onto our bill (which is NOT clearly stated on the main menu....), and got very indigent/rude/short with us when we asked him to remove the charge.. In my opinion a service charge is optional, and is earned not a given right. Briefly the desserts were a massive let down. Choose the cheese and expect a couple of biscuits and a cheeky little game of 'spot the cheese' We were then told, that despite the fact we'd all driven miles to get together that we only had the table for two hours. Once again no indication or mention of this. Would we visit again? I'll let you decide on that one. And, for those of you wondering about monitoring the toilets.....see photo.

This is the perfect place for a low key, relaxed lunch with a friend. I know, because that’s what I have just done. Service was warm, genuine and very efficient. The ambiance echoed that. It’s a favourite spot being so close to the City, and yet with the feeling of a typical English country hostelry. The food was great. Clean plates! Perfect beef pie. Give me more! Battle the hurdles Oxford’s roads throw at you because it’s worth it. By that I mean walk or get on your bike. Because that’s the best approach for this hidden, but rightly celebrated Oxford gem. We ventured out that day to take a walk around the Port Meadow near Oxford and were on our way back from Godstow (walking along the path next to the River Thames) when I told my wife that I was hungry and looking forward to getting back to the city to find some place to eat. Not two seconds later, we saw a sign for The Perch Freehouse and that they were open for lunch, so we took the path and in a few minutes were rewarded with what I must describe as an almost Brigadoon-like reward - the patio and entrance to The Perch, looking quite out of place and yet, at the same time, perfectly set. We knew we'd stumbled upon some place special and headed on in. We were met by a friendly man at the bar who told us that he was pleased to see us (as we were him) and then escorted us out to a lovely covered area where we were seated and then given menus. Not knowing exactly what to expect menu-wise, we were pleased to see that they had a very nice assortment of lunch options and a good drinks menu as well. After a couple of minutes, we'd decided on a couple of alcoholic beverages and then ordered the Beetroot Salad plate (£10.95) that came with pear, local bleu cheese and red and gold beets and the larger of their two Fish Plate, which were to include double portions of prawn cocktail (shrimp salad), peppered smoked mackerel pâté, rollmop herrings, whiskey & treacle cured trout, pickled cucumbers, caper berries & warm breads (£21.95). We figured we'd start with those and then see what else we might want. Not too long after, our orders were placed on the table and, I have to tell you, they were both just perfect and amply proportioned. It was definitely enough to share and we both enjoyed every bite. I was particularly taken by the mackerel pate and the prawn cocktail, while my wife focused mostly on the beet salad, supplementing with tastes of the cured trout on the different breads that we were served. In the end, it was more than enough and, as much as I'd hoped to try out samples from their dessert menu (the gingerbread pudding had my name on it), we decided to save ourselves and just enjoy the food, the setting, the excellent service and the fact that we'd stumbled in to a place that just made our day all the much better. Highly recommended and worth the walk.

Have been to The Perch twice this October. Both times the food was amazing. The crispy lamb and the fish platter were especially good for starters. This time round my husband had the steak pie and I had the pigs cheek - they were outstanding. The meat was meltingly tender in both cases. We thought we were too full for pudding, but looked at the menu. I was too full; but the others shared the cheesecake and loved it. There are vegetarian options on the menu and a separate vegan menu that looked tasty and well thought out. The do wine, non-alcoholic drinks and beer - including 'small beer' with a 2.something abv. It is a lovely place. Do go.
