The Four Candles in Oxford

Tattoo barestaff asked me to leave after my food due to me taking some of my ecig.. understand couple of warning but after I order food. Blocking tab straight away. Obvious intentions. Disgusting and want be returning.

As a family of 6 adults we went upstairs for lunch at 12-30pm.it was pleasing to see it wasn't very busy. We all chose our meals(no fish and chips available)Two scampi and chips 2 salads 1 jacket potato and a steak pudding all ordered at the bar along with drinks. After waiting forty minutes with no sign of our food we were informed there was no scampi, so back to the menu for two of us! Our food eventually arrived I hour and 20 minutes after we had ordered. Very very disappointed indeed. I sing Wetherspoons praises all the time but this one we definitely will not be going back to, so hungry and angry. Manager.....manage!

Great location & as normal fantastic cost effective food & drink!

Was a big fan of the drinks, though someone a table across kept calling us slurs, throwing menus at us, and saying we should go back to our country - only the other patrons were really willing to stand up for us. Not the most friendly bar to people from out of town.

Asked for a GF beer. Told need to use the screen. Went back to bar when looked on screen, told not in stock. Why not keep some GF beer behind the bar like most pubs. Awful service.

Normally quite busy which means it's quite loud sometimes, but I enjoy a loud pub sometimes anyway! No complaints, I had the all day breakfast (which is starting to become an addiction). Drinks were good. For a wetherspoons, it's not the worst for trying to find toilets. Lovely layout as well!

The English breakfast was superb!

First time here, we were impressed - one of the better Wetherspoons. I had a very nice pint of Gravitas, served just right. I definitely recommend this city pub.

Went before theatre as short on time. Ordered on the app as seated upstairs. Drink came in minutes and food soon after, even though it was really busy. The food was cooked nicely and good quality. One of your better Spoons.

También mantuvieron limpias las mesas. No teníamos comida solo un par de bebidas cada uno. Grandes precios en su cerveza y vino. Los baños tenían un piso resbaladizo húmedo.

I travel all over the UK trying different wetherspoons all over and eating the same food .. A very dirty place,all tables are covered in alcohol and most menus are beer soggy. Too loud,never no seating,food takes forever.i eat the ramen bowl constantly all over this was the worst one I've tried,not spice enough no chillies,the chicken was minimul,the chef even shredded it into little pieces to make it look more than it actually was.just an horrific experience,mine and my partners ears hurt from the noise..

Absolutely rammed, partly due to the six nations but largely due to the mini beer festival, with good quality ale at £1.99 a pint. Table service is available with the Wetherspoons app but was a little pedestrian at times, either that or we were drinking too enthusiastically...

Without further ado, UK restaurant/bar chain. If you want to eat "averagely" with a good pint for little money, this is your place. Don't look for quality in the food, it is acceptable for any budget, without further ado.

Our pizzas were overcooked - the margarita was almost burned. My spicy chicken had almost no chicken and was drowned in hot sauce. Not the best pizza we've had in Spoons, by a mile.

Mediocre no real atmosphere just loads of blokes drinking after work. New build spoons so nothing memorable apart from the name.

No hay contacto visual al hablar y ni siquiera dijo hola , muy decepcionado ya que fuimos el verano pasado y el personal era muy dulce . Como alguien que ha trabajado como barman muchas veces y todavía en servicio al cliente, estoy impactado por la grosería de quienquiera que fueran esas dos mujeres , lo tierra que son en servicio al cliente no lo sé . Sin mencionar las mesas, absolutamente sombrías. No iré de nuevo.

Good place, but at Christmas time, I went twice, and they had no Turkey. They told me they can't get delivery. Apart from that food is fantastic 😋

The lovely Amanda who works here is possibly the nicest worker at any spoons I’ve ever met. So lovely. Great accent too.

The place is nice and the food is nice enough usually but I feel I had to say about this burger today because this is what was advertised vs what I got. It was okay but not even close to the photo. I'll still come back as I want to make clear they do other tasty food. Just maybe don't order this burger.

always the no.1 spot for uni students It’s a snowy day even the airports are closing their runways. For me, I came here after an all nighter, incredibly excited for their breakfast. I got the traditional breakfast AND an egg and bacon muffin, which comes with hot chocolate (free refills). Traditional breakfast: £4.99 (fried egg, bacon, sausage, baked beans, two hash browns, slice of toast) Breakfast muffin deal: £2.99 It’s an absolute shout. Can’t wait to come back again, though hopefully not in this inclement weather

It is not an option to eat in Oxford, although the company as a general rule works well, in this case more than an hour of waiting. Terrible choice

A nice JD Wetherspoon in the heart of Oxford. The staff were very friendly and the food was fine. There were some noisy customers inside which made our visit less enjoyable but overall, it was a decent experience.

The toilets look like a riot has just happened, but it's only Monday lunchtime.

Great value for money, I went with an aunt for pre theatre fish and chips ,I had a good sized thick fillet with crispy batter, and a perfectly cooked soft cod inside , it was delicious. the chips were standard chips but perfectly cooked . All the condiments were branded and plentiful. We had apple crumble and ice cream , the crumble no nonsense traditional Apples and spices with a good crumble topping , I have eaten in pubs where you are paying £17.50 for fish and chips (see last review😁) and had dreadful food , so thought I would up the four candles , Credit where it’s due . Also the waitress who served us was lovely and very helpful .

It’s an OK spoons. However, it does not serve any steaks or anything else for that matter on the grill menu! So if you’re thinking of enjoying a mixed grill, or 8oz steak, forget it. It’s a very unusual layout for a spoons, with the toilets downstairs (not particularly clean either - Gents). Service (via app) was extremely slow and not particularly busy either. Wouldn’t return to this one and will try the other Oxford City centre based spoons instead next time .

Very popular venue on our Saturday evening visit, managed to get a table. Ordered off the app, served in acceptable time scale.

Went for a few drinks here, was asked to leave the pub for being too loud? I had bought a drink on the app before being asked to leave and was never refunded (I did ask when I would get my money and was told it would be a few business days) Extremely dissapointed and want my money back!

Another nice building in the older part of town. Not a lot of seating room so crowded out cramped. Toilets not the best Spoons seen.

I always like the Wetherspoon chain, and fish and chips were always good. However in this specific one it was too greasy both fish and chips, I actually couldn’t finish the meal which was disappointing. But the atmosphere is very cozy!

Bouncer at the door is extremely, and consistently rude. Seems to be on some sort of strange power trip which I don't quite understand.

Good cheap food.I had ham egg and chips which was ok.Free beer with certain meals .The restaurant bit was a little too crammed together.Ok though.

Exactly what we wanted before a show. The tables along the balcony were too close together and felt like I was sitting with the lady on the table behind me. You couldn’t sit on both side of the table if the table adjacent was occupied. Remove one of the tables and space out the remaining.

Awful pint. The worst Spoons I've been in. Had a pint of Worthingtons here which was not right. Took about ten minutes to settle. Didn't look right. Mentioned it to the two ladies serving and they basically told me I was incorrect even though I have had pints of Worthington in at least 20 different Wetherspoons pubs and never had a pint like this. It also tasted unpleasant. I didn't drink it. Went to a pub where the bar staff listen to their customers rather than contradict and argue with them. I am usually a massive fan of Spoons and will continue to frequent their establishments... just not this one. I love Spoons as a company and own shares. This pub may be tarnishing your image. A bit of customer service training would probably not go amiss.

The staff seemed super inconvenienced by their work. The loaded fries just had microwaved cheese and 4 bits of bacon (literally). Cheese fries were the same but sans meat. They didn't even play light music the whole time I was there. To their credit, the chickens wings were great ( only reason for the 2 stars), and the place was quiet-ish. Date visited: 3rd Nov '24.

As soon as you enter the store, the first thing you see is a long bar counter, which is very eye-catching~ The meals here, whether they are fish and chips, Indian curry, or grilled platters, are all delicious, and the portions are generous, so you can have a full meal!

Ordered food on app, after a long wait was informed that the meals requested were unavailable. Server was ignorant and unhelpful. Table was dirty and had to ask for it to be cleaned. Luckily was on hand to issue a partial refund. Would not recommend. Usually have a pleasant meal at Weatherspoons, but out this occasion.

We'd been to the Kafka Exhibition at the Weston Library so needed a Wetherspoons to relax with a bite and a drink. Excellent. Perhaps clean the tables a bit more thoroughly.

I had the double burger 🍔 it was so black I just couldn't eat it please check your burger if you ordered one .there must have a new person in the kitchen because it used to be so much better. I am going back again to see if it was a one off .and this time I will be taken pictures

Necesitaba una parada rápida antes de coger un autobús. Los baños de caballeros no están en buen estado. Mesas por todas partes sin despejar. Las bebidas llegaron rápidamente, pero la comida era lenta y medio fría. Tratando de no ser duro, pero no era exactamente ocupado y parecía que había un montón de personal.

Good beer, large selection. There are great and cheap offers, depending on the day of the week or the time of year. The ambience is a little "reverberant", but quite comfortable considering the architecture.

I forgot my umbrella and came back 20 mins after they closed. They said I had they found it but could not give it to me since they were already closed. It was raining and inhaftiert to walk home without my umbrella. Came two days later to pick it up and they said they didn’t find it. Worst customer service I ever experienced in any pub!

Nice Wetherspoons and the toilets are on the ground floor, no climbing 100 steps!!

Grand place with a sense of humour.

A pretty good spoons all round and likely the best spoons in the area. Toilets are relatively clean throughout the day and night. Food always comes hot and correct 👍 the selection of condiments are kept well stocked too!

If you are looking for a reasonably priced pub in Oxford (something truly rare here), this is the place to go. I liked the vibe here. Very lively and happening! Good location on George Street. Very easily accessible. It's quite a big place. Two-storeyed. And also has a few tables outdoors.

Nice atmosphere, prices are great, staff are polite and helpful.

Good food, rather cheap (except for the cheese fries). But dirty toilets were a letdown.... 🤢 And every few minutes very loud bangs from waitresses/waiters that throw cutlery or glasses in the dishwash bin.... 🙉

What is expected from a Wetherspoon's. Quick and polite experience from the staff, we were there at 10am on a Saturday and there were already 3 roudy tables! Not the bars fault but impacts the atmosphere

Good central pub near the train and bus station. I assume they don't have a grill as there was no grilled section in the menu. Customers are loud but can't blame Spoons for that.

An usual wetherspoon pub. I visited around 12pm on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded. I got a jacket potatio with cheese and beans with some orange juice. Food and service was good.

Pleasant and drinks supprisingly cheap. Only a couple of minutes walk from historic center of Oxford. The bus station is just meters from the main door. The unique 'Psrk and Ride' bus service can be caught at stops located almost immediately outside the pub's main entrance, each side of the of George Street.

I've been to many Wetherspoons restaurants across the country. On the face of it, it should be a pleasant experience, but it lacked atmosphere and the normally very pleasant Wetherspoons service we are used to was not present, for us at least. It's also a good couple of quid more expensive per meal for the sheer fact that it was in Oxford. The food itself was as good as expected however.

Primera parada al entrar en Oxford desde nuestro alojamiento y se imaginó que no se puede ir mal con un Wetherspoons - mal. Pedido 2 bebidas y un pan de ajo en la aplicación. La comida llegó rápidamente y era muy sabroso - esto es lo que los 2 puntos son para. Sin nadie en el bar durante largos períodos de tiempo, después de 15 minutos fui a preguntar por nuestras bebidas (2 martinis expresos enlatados) y me avisaron que el gerente había subido a ver si tenían alguno. Dicho gerente apareció unos minutos después para decirnos que solo había 1 disponible y nos gustaría una alternativa. El 1 EM llegó junto con la pinta alternativa y era una bebida de aspecto muy triste - sin espuma en absoluto. Reembolsado 36 p que no puedo entender en absoluto! Ve a las otras Wetherspoons al otro lado de la ciudad.
