The atmosphere was very unwelcoming and the food was terrible. It has the vibe of an old man’s boozer where only locals are welcome. Definitely avoid for food.

OK I am 57 and do not enjoy drinking in pubs as much as I used to, but I love Sam Smith pubs because they are always in prime spots and they are always uncompromisindly old order. Brilliant drink in the Three Goats before moving on for the rugby. Maisie behind the bar was brilliant. Keep doing what you do Sam Smith's. x

Three hungry blokes go in, we order the pub burger with bacon, fish and chips and the steak and ale pie. Solid pub fare, hearty stuff. Had a pint of the Samuel Smith bitter and the world was irie! Get there before 5 because it was pumping after. Discourages use of digital devices, encourages conversations. Close proximity to Oxford's famous colleges.

Lovely setting in winter…… however, cold mulled cider, only one choice of white wine, no lager available, dirty toilets and menus on the bar that finished a week ago….. has potential to be amazing but with one staff member, hardly achievable!! We stumbled across this pub as we tried to avoid the crowds. It's a quirky pub in a backstreet, and most of the clintele appeared to be locals in the know rather than tourists like us. It was a surprise to find a Samuel Smiths pub tucked away in Oxford - it has a good range of Sam Smiths beers, and a decent pub grub menu - I had bangers and mash and my wife had caesar salad with halloumi. Staff were very friendly. Only issue was the eight steps down into the pub - my wife has some mobility issues and struggled a little bit.

Snug quiet little pub in Oxford city centre. It can be hard to find a quiet pub in the city centre - most of them are heaving. But somehow, even when this pub is busy, it seems peaceful and timeless. Perhaps it's the lack of mobile phones (something more pubs should do), the range of ales, the quiet corners, or the fact you can catch the bar staff... reading a book. 😱🤯 A hidden treasure of Oxford... make sure yoh don't tell anyone. 😉

I've lived in Oxford for over 20 years and must have passed this pub dozens of times without venturing in. That is, until today. My only wish is that I'd visited long before now. So refreshing not to see the 'usual suspect' beers on tap that are available everywhere else. I had the scampi sandwich for lunch which was delicious and great value for money considering it is a pub smack bang in the middle of Oxford. Great food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Visited the cellar bar on a Friday evening in November. As the rest of the local pubs in the centre had been busy, it should have served notice when there was only one table of drinkers in the place. Ordered an ale and a cider. We were assured the ale was traditional cask, but have since learned it wasn't. Neither drink tasted good - the cider especially tasted tainted. Above all else though, the smell from the drains in the bar was nauseating and permeated around the seating area. I can not recommend this place.

I had just enjoyed a walk through the St Giles fair, and taken a great ride on the Meteorite. At the hotel I was staying in, the restaurant was closed. So I looked for somewhere central to eat before I took the Gold bus back to the hotel. I found the Three Goats Heads, a little bit south from St Giles and then a right turn. It's in the basement. On a Monday night, not too full. But a good atmosphere. A really nice "organic" lager, but expensive. Friendly staff, although when I revealed that I was a Cambridge man, I was told to "watch my language!" I ordered beef and ale pie, which was simple and good. The Cabernet was expensive too, but everything is expensive these days. This was a proper, old-fashioned English pub, right in the centre of a city that has gone seriously green and "woke." It was pleasant, friendly, not "politically correct," and served good, simple food. I recommend it.

We were mainly looking for refreshing drinks anyway, so wasn't much of a bother to us that food wasn't being served at that time (next time we visit though, we will definitely try and make it for food!). I had their Peach Rum cocktail (can't remember the name off the top of my head), and my mum went for a Peach Spritz. Both drinks were lovely - just what we needed for the warm impromptu visit to Oxford that day! As stated, we will definitely come back for the food, but highly recommend the cocktails!

However, if you're only going to open one level, why make it the lightless cellar bar? Open one higher with light and a view. Also, the "Digital Detox" digns are a bit strong and unnecessary.
