A friend and I booked for 1200 on a Sunday. As soon as we arrived, there was a sign on the front door "No Sunday Lunches", which was a huge disappointment. I had looked at the extensive menu online prior to arriving there, and I had another option in mind. The chicken and Ribs. We arrived and were taken to our table. There were only 3 other parties sitted down, which I thought was a bit strange, as this establishment was usually packed out on a Sunday. We were handed a limited menu with the standard pub grub items. No grill items, no Chicken or burger items either. No chicken and ribs. My friend and I decided to go elsewhere. The cleanliness of the pub is shocking. The carpets looked like they haven’t been hoovered and cob webs on pictures. Since Marstens have taken over from Brains, it has severely gone down hill.

This was the worse service I have ever had, they had run out of food choices on Sunday at 1 15. I ask for a 00 larger and was given a low . The meal took 3/4 of an hour even after asking how long it would be after we had waited some 25 mins. The restaurant was sparsely in use by customers so no excuse was acceptable, the person in charge said that they had been so busy that is why the ran out of food, even though we had book a table 3 weeks before and arrive half an hour early, clearly i will never attend this Marsden pub again, and will tell all my family and friends to give it a miss

The venue here was lovely, the service was okay but it really felt like there was low morale. The food was also really not great, the burger was the level I would expect from a car boot burger van which was very disappointing. Overall a rather underwhelming experience.

So Came into the pub to order some drinks and a bowl of chips with my partner. Lovely sunny Sunday afternoon after walking down the beach, had my heart set on a wine spritz and a nice cold pint. Young lad behind the bar was polite and told us to find a table so we can order the chips. My white wine spritz, was disgusting no fizz completely flat, I took the drink back to say this taste horrible and it's really flat, only to be told I can put more soda in for you this made no difference at all, just to be told I'm sorry I don't know what's going on there? So I didn't actually drink my drink as it was undrinkable. So sat waiting for the chips they came over cooked, cold and some of mine were wet and soggy. Ewe!!! Atmosphere was dead and felt weird plates and glasses not been taken off tables, partner left half his pint, we left disappointed.

Felt it’s not as good as it used to be. Food was average at best, only had a reduced menu for some reason. Had a chicken burger and fries. Came with two pots of sauce. One nice mayo, but hardly any of it. The other was some brown water with no taste, that we guessed was some variation of gravy. Burger was ok I suppose

No one at front desk to greet and take to table. Waited close to an hour for food and in that time no one had come around to check on us or inform us why it was taking so long and when food did arrive no one apologised for the wait and just simply put the food on the table. Quarter of my chips were overcooked and just too crunchy to eat without damaging your teeth and the rest were bordering turning cold so you had to eat them quickly. Would have walked out if hadn't paid upfront. Very poor service. Years ago when I was here It was 5 stars but now I struggle to want to give it 1 star. Overpriced for 'fish fillet' instead of Cod and staff who couldn't care less about you. The place was about half full if that but felt like it was full at every table since it took so long to do two basic meals.

Went today for Mother’s Day. Food was 1 hour and 40mins late. Food was cold and soggy had to ask for food to be warmed up. Gravy was like dirty dish water. Toilets out of order. (The ones that were working were filthy) lots of staff walking around doing nothing. Lots of tables waiting for their food. Manageress didn’t seem to care when we told her our complaints she just replied “3 big tables were booked in so we have a delayed service”. I would not recommend.

We had booked a table for 8pm, we arrived at 7.55pm and we're waiting to be seated for at least 10 minutes, despite it being absolutely dead. When we sat down we looked at the menu and decided what we wanted. I went up to order our food at the bar and the lady didn't have a clue what she was doing. It took her at least 5 minutes to write down "mixed grill, medium well" by the time I'd nearly finished ordering my partner came up and asked the barmaid to check for the wait time on food after overhearing multiple people saying they had been waiting for 2+ hours. The barmaid returned and said "it will be a while" which was extremely unhelpful as does that mean 40 mins? 1 hour? 3 hours? We decided to leave before we had finished ordering. Poor customer service and appalling wait times considering there were no more than 15 people in the restaurant.

The experience at the Watermill Bridgend was possibly the worst we have ever experienced. The ordering processes went smoothly and we sat done to wait for our food, after waiting for over 1.5 hours we realised that there had been people waiting even longer for their orders and the barman was telling people wanting to order that they only had 1 chef working. I asked at the bar how much longer it would be and was told 5 minutes, after about 15 minutes he came to our table and told me that the beef lasagne I ordered wasn't available, surely they must have know this earlier, I then ordered fish and chips. When the food arrived after another 15 minutes my wife who ordered steak with chips, tomatoes and mushroom was amazed that a chef would send a plate of food out with mushrooms clearly been reheated and so badly burned were unedibale and the tomato uncooked and cold chips. My meal of fish and chips again had chips which had obviously been plated for a while, I also ordered onion bhaji's which when they came looked more like a dish you would buy as a snack from a supermarket ,there was not the mint dip or the salad as advertised and when trying one it was cold in the middle and again unedibale. The bar man to fair accepted it wasn't good enough and removed the food from our bill. We have used Marston restaurants in the past and the experience has always been excellent but this was appalling and a serious review of standards and staffing in the watermill needs to take place.

Had a good time here the other day, my order was out momentarily pretty quickly, the little lad behind the bar made it quite an experience making it easy for me and my partner to order especially with her gluten allergies he was more than happy to take the time to help, I have seen recent reviews portraying a terrible place to be, this is completely unjustified! If you’re expecting a 5 star restaurant it isn’t the place to be but for a nice quiet drink and a bite to eat it’s the place to go! My price is a touch higher due to the fact I had a few more drinks.

Where to begin. This was our second outing to this establishment in the last week. Unfortunately, this time around, our visit was exceptionally sub-par. I would go as far as to say, disastrous. I shall set the scene. It was a barmy, warm Spring Saturday afternoon. I was in attendance with my partner and our infant son. The capacity of the pub did not indicate that it was under any sort of lunch time rush. There were perhaps two dozen patrons at the establishment, both seated indoors and alfresco. I would also point out that not all those persons who were sat outdoors were eating; they only instead had alcoholic beverages. We weren’t greeted upon entering and had to find our own way inside where we were then faced with the harrowing situation of having to choose our own table. Due to this, partly in our error, we sat near to the emergency exit which was also part of the pub greenhouse as it was positively sweltering. The sun beamed through the pane glass windows on to our famished, weary bodies. We perused the menu and decided upon a macaroni and cheese main meal and also beef burger. When I approached the young fellow behind the bar and told him our order, he declared that they were not only out of beef burgers but also mixed grill, which was my second option. Faced with imminent pressure, my hand was forced and I selected possibly the most expensive meal on the menu, the “Chicken and Ribs Platter”. We also ordered side accompaniments which included garlic bread and fries. At one point during our visit, I feared for the safety and wellbeing of the chef as the food took so long, I was concerned that he had perhaps been abducted by sinister parties. This however was not the case and the chef was somewhat present. I asked around 45 minutes after placing the initial order where our meals were. My son was also displeased which was very difficult for him to portray as he is only 14 weeks old. If he could Talk, he would fully agree with the distain I was experiencing. I asked at the bar where our food was, and I was told quite confidently that it was being plated up and would only be a couple of moments. Our tummies rumbled as the hour mark post order quickly approached and yet still nothing had reached our table. My partner, with a sweat soaked brow was almost experiencing a famine like disorder as we waited yet longer. Finally, the food arrived. I sincerely wish it hadn’t. The Mac and cheese clearly arrived as a side and was also swimming in so much oil that the United States would consider invading the dish. It contained so much oil, it could probably be listed as a natural resource. My “Chicken and Ribs Platter” was essentially frozen chicken pieces with chips and the most disappointing set of ribs I have ever seen. Not only did the poor pig die for nothing, but it tasted as though the ribs had been cooked the week before, then warmed up on the nearby radiator before then being placed violently on my plate. Three of the ribs had been degloved and the meat placed in a pile on top of the other ribs. The chicken wings were the only redeeming item on the plate. Overall I am very disappointed with the visit. It’s clear that they are very understaffed and the staff they do have are being trained as they are new. It wasn’t a particularly busy period of the day, yet it felt as though a rush of 20,000 people had been previous to us and cleared them out of all their stock. They didn’t even have any ice cream. They do Puppacinos though, which is nice. I should have had one of those instead.

We booked in advance, yet had to wait 15 minutes for service and were told a chef hadn't turned in and noone was allowed to order for another 10 minutes ( at the bar) a kitchen member of staff came out to talk to a barman and was heard to say I am not paid to do that. Staff were walking past our table, ignoring us and not explaining what was going on. Our food all came out together, which was good considering there were 12 of us, but there were a lot of mistakes . Also, my son's sausages were still cold in the middle. The children had ice cream, which seemed to be adult portions at child prices. I'm not complaining there. 2 members of our group also had payment issues where the money was taken, refunded, and taken again. Very odd. It seemed there was no management present that day.

Went there for Sunday lunch with family visiting from London. Have been many times before and generally the food has been ok albeit not amazing. Service was also good. This visit was a deciding factor to never go there again or recommend to anyone. Sunday lunches took around an hour and a half to arrive, quality of food was poor, lukewarm with a jug of congealed gravy. Staff were pleasant enough and apologetic but the owners of this business should be ashamed if this is typical of the way they run their business. Customer satisfaction was non existent that day.

I booked a table for a Sunday roast, because the website menu showed you do roasts. When we turned up, the server kindly showed us to our seats and said there were menus on the table. We went to order from the QR code on the menus and the page said this wasn't working (the server hadn't explained and said to go up to the tills), so I took the menu from my phone to the till only to be told you don't do roasts. I then went back to my table to get my partner to pick something else and rejoined the queue but what we then chose as an alternative (the chicken burgers pictured on the front page of the menu) was also out of stock and as there was a queue building behind me I then had to make a snap decision about what alternative my partner would want based upon the things that caught his eye. We then waited 50mins for our meal to come out even though there was only about 20 people in the pub. When the food came out, cold chips made up 2/3 of our plates, and they'd forgotten my partners onion rings (but after he went up to the till they then brought out a bowl of three overcooked yet cold onion rings that the server said the chef had made but forgot to add them to the plate). His chicken breast was small with two thin strips of very crispy hard bacon and a drizzle of cheese. I had a handful of overcooked to the point of mushy peas and my gammon extremely was very salty and at least 30% fat rind. We've been to Marstons pubs before and always enjoyed it but this quality was worse than a wetherspoons meal. It wasn't worth our £34 bill. The staff were polite when we had interacted with them but nobody came to ask how the food was or clear the neighbouring table, and when we got up to leave there was a few people queuing for the one guy behind the bar so we didn't want to add to his stress. I realise the pub must have been busy in the daytime because of the rare sunny weather, and I'm sure the staff must have had a hectic day but this wouldn't be a complaint if there had been better communication from the start as to whether you do roasts and then what's not available and dinner wait times so we could decide what we wanted to do. We'd have probably stayed for a drink or just a bowl of chips then called it quits and tried again next time. Now we don't want to come back because of this experience.

This used to be out favourite place. We have visited the watermill so many times. The last 3 times have been terrible. Since marstons took over it’s awful. The 2 boys behind the bar tonight were shocking. We was told the wasn’t accepting walk ins. No explanation as to why but we was told we couldn’t eat. This was at 6pm. They were only taking booking. So we literally went outside and booked a table. Guess what… we sat down straight away. The place was busy. Which is good. We ordered food and drinks and waited. And waited. And waited. One family next to us waited 1 hour and 30 minutes with children. Another family waited an hour without food still. We wasn’t told why this was taking so long so my partner went and asked. There was only 1 chef. We then asked for a refund. The attitude on the boy behind the was rude and questionable. There was no food on any table at all. My partner said he should have told us the wait for food was over an hour as we wouldn’t have bothered. He said well you only booked last minute. And you only waited 45 minutes so far. Instead of apologising and saying sorry the reason is ….. and explain he was rude to my partner. We ended up leaving. I’m extremely disappointed as this was my absolute favourite place the last few years have been amazing. The old staff were amazing. The man who used to work behind the bar. The blonde lady and the young girls used to smash it out the water. They were amazing. Marstons rubbish menu and staff have ruined this place and we will no longer be eating here. Such a disappointment. The place used to be cosy. The fire would on and the place was warm. Tonight. There was no atmosphere the place was cold and the fire was off. Absolutely gutted. I will not be recommended this place anymore. Such a shame

Dreadfull. Turned up for our booking to be told no roast dinners available. Okay, we ordered starters and alternative mains and was told a 30 to 45 minute wait, thats fine. One hour and ten minutes later I went to the bar and was told it would be at least another 45 minutes, no apology. Explained that people who had sat down half an hour after us had been served, had eaten and were gone, just told it was a backlog? Received refund and left. Gutted, my wife had been out since 8am taking an elderly relative to hospital and we were looking for a nice Sunday lunch, we have been to the Watermill countless times but won't again unless there is a change of management. PS, we were told by relatives a few weeks ago that they had received similarly bad service because all the staff had walked out, we assumed this would have been resolved by now but obviously hasn't. unfortunately we had a bad experience and only writing this review so the team gets the training they need. We had a pre booking Saturday at 5.30pm on our arrival no one greeted us properly and one waitress completely blacked us when we said hello. After finally getting seated we were left to work out we needed to order from the bar. We went to order and was told the kitchen is closed at the moment and to wait until it opens. We could see a table eating and some fish and chips going out that looked good! so was confused. We waiting for 20mins and went up again this time being told they are doing a stock take and the chef is having a melt down. The restaurant looked empty with maybe 4 tables so again confused with this response. Finally after 35mins we where told we can order now to find that the people who pre booked with us could not get what they pre booked as they where out of stock! Another set back but we re ordered and waited for our food. I picked the mixed grill for just under £20 and when it came out it looked rather small i noticed it was missing 2x sausages and half a chicken on the plate ( not sure how this was missed) my brother and dad had medium sirloins that where still pink on the top with the slightest of grill marks with no sear and the fat was not rendered (looked like road kill) finally my sausages and chicken came out looking very pale and was cold in the middle i was waiting for the final check back that never came from the waitress but it never came. Some of the meals looked ok but it was more of a shambles that could have just been managed better for most of it. Just needed communication from the start as we felt just left in the corner and we had pre booked for this service l. Our expectations where never met and overall the service was very poor and i don't think there was a manger on site. This is more directed at the company as what went so wrong and why?

Booked for 2:00pm…food arrived at 3:30pm. I chose the ‘lighter version’ of a Cowboy Burger…I’ve eaten and enjoyed this many times at the Watermill. The dish I received yesterday did not resemble anything I’ve had before…for example, my salad had no quinoa, no brown rice, no beans and no dressing whatsoever and the burger looked and tasted like it had been re-heated more than once. My wife ordered a Sunday dinner…she could not eat the carrots as they were raw and her gravy was so thick that she had to ‘spoon’ it out of it’s container as it was un-pourable. My son and his fiancé had similar problems with their meals. To use my wife’s description, our food was ‘a disaster’ As a result, my family will not be darkening the door of the Watermill again…very disappointed.

We ordered two hunters chickens, we received two plain breasts with a tiny bit of bacon and the very mearest of suggestions of bbq sauce and cheese, I thought it was hiding under the bacon it was so mear. We sent it back and it was sent back to us looking as if it had been thrown back onto the plate in a strop with a teaspoon of sauce and a couple of strands of cheese. Been visiting the Watermill for the past 30 years. Unfortunately the place is in desperate need of refurbishment! Toilets are dreadful and need to be condemned Food was good but sadly the whole pub really needs a refurb before we will return.

Mum and I, dine here on a regular basis, always near the windows. Rob, Julie, Helen, Michelle and the rest of the staff are very friendly, and they go above and beyond their normal duties. I thoroughly recommend coming here, no matter who you are. Merry Christmas to one and all! One recommendation - please bring back Faggots and mash with peas and onion gravy.

I've visited The Watermill many times & have always had good food, good service & a positive experience. I'm not sure if the pub has new management or were just having an off day but the food was passable at best. We had booked online but not pre ordered food, as there was no option to do so. When we were called by the pub, we were asked to make a choice as soon as possible. We arrived today with our elderly friend who has a walker, one of the reasons we had chosen The Watermill was we know its flat. We were shown to our table, it was up 3 steps, our friend can't do steps, so my husband asked for an adjacent table the flat, this seemed a step too far for the staff member who said the table wasn't set, did we want festive menu or not & we should have informed them one of the party had a mobility issue! Another party arrived with 2 people with mobility issues, they were also sat on the raised area up the steps. Surely you shouldn't have to 'book' a table on a flat space, we could have just arrived ad hoc with someone in a wheelchair, there were plenty of other tables in the pub as its quite large. Not sure I'll be returning in a hurry...just not a pleasant experience & the food has definitely gone downhill.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and my food was really delicious (Hunters chicken without the BBQ sauce). Lots of lime in my lime and soda (so many pubs get that ratio wrong!), I was very happy. A lovely place to meet friends. In fact we came back again for a hot drink after our blustery walk on the beach, and we've already agreed to meet here again.

The best thing about our visit is that we can bring our dog especially as it’s so close to the beach you can tie it in to a day trip. In fact the right part of the restaurant was all dog owners and they were all well behaved with treats and water for the dogs. The Sunday roast dinner was also beautiful and we can’t wait to come back.

We had the hunters chicken which was quite nice but would have benefitted from a lot more of the barbeque sauce we asked if it would be possible to have some more sauce but we're given a bottle of cold pouring barbeque sauce accompaniment.

Lovely pub in a lovely place. Looks stunning and the staff are fantastic, a really friendly atmosphere and can't do enough. Very down to earth. Menu for food is more chain like and slightly limited. But it has all the normal staple stuff in there with what you would expect. Dogs are allowed in the bar area, so great to stop off for those on their walks. Been there a few times now and definitely go back again.

Not been for a few years, but stopped for a bite to eat with my wife and we throughly enjoyed. Alas, we don’t go out often with prices having by gone up a lot past few years but the Blue Light discount helped a little. Would recommend the lasagne and also the steak with the light salad accompanying it.

Decided to come to the watermill for some lunch on Wednesday and as it was a lovely day we decided to sit outside to eat food, it was okayed by the lovely lady on the bar but got confronted by another member of staff who came across very rude and abrupt about us sitting outside. This interaction made the place feel very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. If it wasn’t for the lovely lady behind the bar making us feel welcome we would have left and gone somewhere else for lunch. Apart from this the food was lovely and I would come here again providing the rude member of staff was to gain more people skills.

Been there many times. Always lovely chips. Tonight they were awful! Hard and leathery, beans stone cold had to take back, I was offered to reheat but then chips would be too hot! What on earth has gone wrong with this place. Chips ended up in nearest bin, what a waste of money!! Won't be going back again
