The best restaurants serving British food in South Lakeland North West

Hi, I hate doing this kind of thing I came in Saturday evening ordered fish and chips waited 20 minutes which I don’t mind. Got back home. Chips were disgusting and the fish. I don’t even wanna talk about it. I don’t know if it was frozen. The batter was awful. I will not be going again and the only reason I went is because it just reopened so I wanted to try it but if anyone wants fish and chips, please avoid this place. Go somewhere else Because I threw mine in the bin. What a waste of money never again.

One of our favourites in Bowness made even more fun with the fantastic and chatty bar staff. He's definitely our face of Bowness with his easy manners, nothing was too much trouble. Drinks and food amazing. See you next time we visit

Situated in the beautiful place that is Arnside, this cute bakehouse was a fantastic find for our breakfast of sausage bap and a piece of cake with coffee on our trip along the coast. Delicious and served with a smile, this place offers a variety of pies and pasties to take away as well as a varied menu to suit all tastes. Lovely place

When we arrived at the pub at 6.00 last Thursday evening for a meal we were the only people in the restaurant, we placed our order to a lady in a fleece!!!! Not very professional, we placed our order starters & main course, we waited 45 mins for the meal to arrive, when it arrived it was our main course no starters my husband said to the the young lad where was our starters!!!! He said he didn't know we ordered starters did we still want them we said yes he came back & told us they had not been ordered, he took the main meal back & we asked him not to keep the meal warm & we don't want it to be heated up, another long wait for starters to come prawn cocktail was disgusting it was served on a limp dark lettuce leaf. After another long wait main meal arrived the sirloin steak meal I ordered was not very nice the steak was very light in colour it did not look like a steak & it was tasteless also the chips were frozen thin cut chips, think on we were the only People in the restaurant so they were not rushed of there feet. The ambiance of the pub could be better it is not a very good advert to see the double wall lights bulbs with only one bulb working in all of them!!! I wonder if they are short of money as it looks like they cutting down on funds which is not a very good advert for the customers. This pub was a great pub years ago & it looks like it is struggling, needs something done with the ambiance & better served meal!!!! This pub could lend itself of being a great pub with good meals!!!

Do NOT STAY in the family room room 12!! i checked in late with my 2 grandsons, bedding clean but.....see photos everything else is terrible, only 1 member of staff and she is on the bar. Too late and no spare rooms as its bank holiday. Will not have a shower until im home!

Just wow. The nicest ice cream EVER. The lady serving was lovely and the ice cream was amazing. Will deffo be going back next time we visit this area. Highly recommend.

Great patio and lovely service! Great stop in Ambelside!

What a cracking town pub this is. Since Steve and his team took over just under a year ago joined with an extensive refurb the place has just gone from strength to strength. Whether it’s live sport, karaoke, live music, disco night or just a quiet family drink there’s rarely a week that passes where the George fails to deliver. To top it off it’s probably the cheapest bar in town too. Keep up the good work a credit to the Kendal pub scene.

Lovely warm welcome created a high expectation for the food to come. Great cosy pub environment and pleasant atmosphere. However the food was pretty average with a cold processed pork pie and whilst chips were tasty they were not as hot as they could be. Lots of potential here to partner with a great local butcher and make more of the demand for Pork pies. Such a great little pub which could be so much better with a bit of ‘Food’ improvement

The Queens head has a great menu and the food was 5*. A lovely warming pub with fantastic food and drinks. The roaring fire and views to die for makes your evening so much better after exploring the lake district. Have come back 3 nights in a row. The staff alike are so accommodating and friendly. Would recommend if you are in the area.

We went here as a group of seven. The pub was clean and the service was really good. It offered tables both in and outside. We each ordered food, and each meal was excellent. The food was of a good quality and the menu offered a great selection and was good value for money. Excellent experience and I will definitely be retuning.

Excellent meal we had the featherblade of beef and the cod. Both delicious and beautifully presented. We shared the local cheese board. The service and setting was excellent.

Lovely homely traditional pub, ideal after a long Dales walk. Beer is well kept and tasty, good range too. Dogs welcome.

Helpful in changing our booking to the following evening, but when we arrived on time at 7pm they had almost run out of food so we had to go elsewhere.

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
