Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞

VERY EXPENSIVE. They do not display the prices in the window of the Pies, Sauage Rolls etc-which they should and no wonder because if they did most potential customers would not go in. I ordered a vegan sauage roll to take away and was charged £4.25 !!!!!! OUTRAGEOUS !!!!

Visiting from south. Love this part of the world snd normally quality of produce and service good in the area. Sadly there are always exceptions to the rule and mistakingly forgot to read the reviews first. The beef and ale pie didnt have any beef or ale. I'd have needed a black and decker to cut the pastry! Sausage roll dry and heavy. Food presented nice in the window but what gets served doesnt live up to the picture. Strangely expected to clear your own table into the bin. Greggs cheap and cheerful but offers better fare than here. Will not be returning.

Used to love coming here. As others have said. Staff a strange mix and constantly busy making a racket and appearing to achieve little. This is our third visit in a row with quality deterioration. Used to be exceptional. Cheese, onion, leek pie. Severe lack of taste. Very little cheese, no taste of leek. Stuffed with potato and a bit of seasoning. So powdery dry. Only ate half. Chicken, leek and onion pie. Plenty of chicken. Reasonable seasoning. No taste of leeks. Potato again. If you're listing main ingredients. Potato should be listed first on the cheese mix. Certainly second on the chicken. Predominant taste is potato, it's also likely the heaviest and by volume. Not sure we're ready to give this place another chance. Price is pitched at quality pie for low cost ingredients. Appearance is fabulous

Avoid! Service was appalling! Scotch egg was black inside (yellow yolk) and rock solid meat and bread crumbs, pork pie slimy and tasteless. Flapjacks (when they finally arrived) extremely dry! Soft Drinks overpriced and warm! Waste of money and ended up having to go elsewhere as we couldn't eat any of it!

Called in early afternoon, the potato and meat pies were very well cooked ie rock hard , extremely salty and tasted more like a pasty with lots of turnip in them. The millionaire shortcakes We're ok though. It was expensive visit near £20 with a can of drink. Also the woman serving an east European was disinterested and not pleasant.

We visited Arnside today and saw what looked like delicious pies in the window so, with it being a sunny day thought rather than sit in a pub, a sandwich, pie, bottle of water on a bench will do! Well, what an absolute rip off! £19.40 for a ham salad sandwich, tuna and onion sandwich, 1 meat and potato pie and 2 bottles of water! The sandwiches were nearly £6 each and nothing special, quite tasteless in fact, the pastry on the pie was nice, but the filling was EXTREMELY salty and just luke warm. If I visit again the sandwiches in Londis look tastier with more filling. £19.40! Rip off merchants! The young man in the shop also has the personality of a brick wall, didn't have a clue what he was doing, didn't know if they had forks, which they did and it general just couldn't be bothered. This place could be a little goldmine with good staff and reasonable prices. Such a shame. Go to Londis for better value and tastier sandwiches.

Went today and ordered a scone with butter???? (neither looked or tasted like butter) the scone just disintegrated when I cut into it, it was so dry. I returned it and an older lady commented “it can’t be stale I only baked them today” while poking her finger into the scone. She was not addressing me when she made this comment but was addressing one of the other staff on duty…..the lovely assistant on the till refunded me even though I did leave the counter resigned to the fact I would have to forfeit my payment….needless to say I won’t return!

My husband and I visited Arnside last Friday (Jan 12th). We had a flask of coffee with us but needed pasties/sausage rolls or something similar to eat with it. We purchased a cheese and onion pasty and a Cornish pasty from the Old Bakehouse to take out. The price for these two pasties amounted to over £8 which in our opinion is very expensive 😕 HOWEVER, they were outstanding! Absolutely delicious with crisp, flakey pastry and ample fillings. My cheese and onion pasty was the best I've ever tasted from a bakery. So - the moral of this review is "you get what you pay for!" 👍👍👍

Me and my partner came here today to have a few snacks and some coffees, which at a decent price where lovely and the older lady serving (im sure she was ukrainian) was lovely and gave amazing service. To the other staff i cant say the same. There were 2 young teenage boys working id say beetween age 14-15 who where quite rude and acted very immature to be working in a coffee shop. They were both wearing nike and north face tracksuits, one with his hood up which i find extremely innapropriate.i undersand its winter and its cold but the lady also working there was dressed appropriately with a apron and suitiable clothing, so i dont see an exuse for the sloppy JD tracksuits. They were also play fighting in front of customers and just acting silly in general. I noticed that when serving customers, there was no chatting or kindness just take the money and give the coffees type of thing. One of the boys even put a takeout coffee in a ladys face and didnt say anthing to her, not even "have a nice day" or "here you go" in conclution just very young saff that need better training. (Ps i work in hospitality so i know how easy it is to act profesional in a job.

Waited 15 minutes for a BLT and a bacon and egg sandwich, for the privelage of this costing £10, I left the shop and as I’d set off on my journey, realised it was sausage and egg, and there may aswell not have even been an egg due to the yolk being completely solid. Also when I asked for the BLT, which was noted on the menu, she said she would “try” make one. Sorry but if you can’t cook an egg right in a cafe, you shouldn’t be cooking. Disappointed and waste of my hard earned money.

I don’t know where to start with this review, easily the worst cafe experience I’ve had for a very long time. Had 5 young and hungry children to feed at lunchtime today so popped in for what I thought would be a quick takeaway to eat on the beach: 3 sausage rolls, a soup, some crisps and two ham sandwiches. I was kept there waiting for 45 mins! The sandwiches arrived in 5 mins. After another 20mins and realising that my hot food hadn’t arrived yet other customers who came after me were leaving with theirs, I decided to say something… turns out the sausage rolls were not even put in the warming oven so then were put in for 10 mins…. but then the soup hadn’t emerged despite my complaints about the time it was all taking… waited another 10 mins for the soup which had been seemingly abandoned to serve other customers…. no apology given just very flustered and dismissive staff. I don’t normally complain but I found this whole experience completely bonkers …. I’d really like to say it was good value, worth the long wait and delicious … it cost me £27 and the soup was so salty you could have walked on it!!! Sandwich’s two slices of cheap bread and thin ham, sausage rolls were ok but not worth £3.50 each. What can I say? I’ve worked in hospitality, I know it’s stressful but this was beyond acceptable. Not blaming the young lad out front, appalled by the poor management . Wont be going back!!

Popped into this place with kids for breakfast. First impression, *lots* of staff but very slow service and none of those staff making eye contact or saying hello or "we'll be with you" or anything as we stood waiting. Second impression, over eight pounds for a sausage roll and a small quiche which took forever to heat up in the oven seemed pretty pricey to me? Third impression, small quiche was really a standout, great filling and pastry, so, on reflection, happy to pay over four pounds for that (even though teenager demolished in three bites). Sausage roll not so much.

We shared both and they were fabulous. Can't believe you've got such negative reviews! Some of us are willing to pay a reasonable price for good food, I guess those who can't tell the difference are better off sticking to the supermarket. Taking into account the adjustments all businesses have had to make during covid, this was a pretty rubbish experience. The food was nice enough, although nothing outstanding. The Balti Sausage roll was essentially sweet potato wrapped in pastry... not sure where the balti bit comes in. Service... while waiting I was not once acknowledged by staff. It's the simple words of "I will be with you in a minute" that go a long way. The lady who served me could not take more than one item at a time and asked me to wait a minute before I could order beyond a pie. And while she called me 'darling' a few times, the overall body language and service did not match the robotic words. There wasnt an ounce of authenticity or customer service. Just another person to be processed. It's a shame. Individual experience is important. Having watched the people in front also have to remind the staff member of their drinks order, I again had to do the same. Maybe it was a bad day... maybe on a quiet Tuesday they were having an off moment? Shame really because it looked like it would be a gem of a spot. I'd give it one more go while we are here for the week to see if it is any better.

This was an excellent place to finish our run. We had just done roughly 9k of mixed terrain running from Silverdale to Arnside. The views were gorgeous and the run was relatively challenging. So this place as recommended by my friend was just the ticket to finish everything on. We came in, rather muddy and sweaty. but thankfully the staff appeared to be used to that. The had the option called 'Proper Job' which includes Pie, Potato, Peas and Pickled Veg. He ordered Cheese, Leek and Onion with chips, mushy peas and red cabbage. I had the Steak Pie with mash, mushy peas and Red Cabbage. And...Wow, my tastebuds were dancing. I am not much of a pie man, seeing as it is not something I grew up with. But every bit of that filled plate was an explosion of taste sensations. I ordered Carrot cake, and like the main meal it was generously proportioned. Both of us had to waddle the way to the train station. As for shortcomings. We were very luck that there was a table free. Not sure what we would have done if there hadn't been one. As for the prices... Given that this is a bakeshop in a small town and the portions are, uhm, well proportioned I am not going to complain about that. Maybe a free refill on the coffee that would have been good. But whatever. It was utterly satisfying, and I'll happily go again.

Shocking service received by the three young women working this afternoon. I work in hospitality and am studying a BA In International Hospitality Management and this is my first critical review of an eating establishment. The cafe was empty apart from one gentleman drinking a coffee at a table. There was no welcome when we stepped inside, no smile, no friendliness, one of the staff members who was cleaning an oven was making noises of disgust and at one point said ‘Urgh that’s disgusting’ as we were being served, attempting to show her colleague the mess as she was serving us. There was more but the above demonstrates the lack of customer care. Not professional, not how I like to spend my hard earned income, won’t be returning in a rush.

We stopped by here for lunch and found it lovely. Quality hand made pie and chips. Service very good. Very busy but you can see why, it didn’t affect the service/food though.

I ordered a cappuccino and an Earl Grey tea. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst cappuccinos I have ever had! It was just watery coffee with a tiny bit of froth. It was so bad I actually went back to the counter and told them so. The staff were lovely and I asked if I could have a cup of tea instead.

Stopped here after a beach stroll and picked up the last 2 " pork" pies. One plain one with black pudding. The black pudding one came with a slice off pudding instead of a pastry top. Black pudding was hard and dry, the meat inside was ok with pieces of pudding dotted about. The plain one had a soggy bottom , undercooked and grey. The meat inside was more like beef and very tasteless. £4.60 for 2 very small below average pies?? Won't bother again !!

Lovely place to sit in and have lunch. A large range of pies and pasties, freshly made and heated if required. Drinks include Fentimans and fruit Pegergrinos which is great. Didn't have tea, but those that did, enjoyed it. Sit at the window seats and enjoy a view of the viaduct. Dog friendly. Seats about 24 people. Service is quite slow, but so should life be!

Forget the fact that the coffees and drinks were very good and the cakes were fine. The tea cakes were smashing, the tiffin was great as was the almond slice but it is worth walking, riding or driving miles for the meat pies. Huge selection and I could only have one - the steak and kidney, which was fabulous. Great, characterful, little cafe. One drawback - a single toilet which is not very accessible, small and up three or four steps (suggestion - take away the pies!!).

Having walked from Silverdale to Arnside we were in need of refreshments and saw the superb looking pies in the window, as we had the dog with us we were going to buy a pie and eat on the promenade. Whilst dawdling around thedoor trying to make our minds up, we were welcomed in, dog and all and before we knew it were settled down with a big pot of tea and a gorgeous steak and kidney pie with mash, mushy peas and gravy. Super food at a very reasonable price and dog friendly. Wow !

The original plan for the day had been a gentle stroll, this had turned into a 5 mile hike so by the time the dog and I got back into Arnside we were ready for a rest and I was ready for some lunch.

We visit Arnside a few times a year in Autumn, Winter or Spring, mainly for the walks. Fist port of call is usually the Old Bakehouse for coffee and perhaps a pie. Yes it’s small and sometimes cramped, but so are many places. But the coffee is good, the food is good and it is characterful.

Not only good for tea, cakes and pies but they also supply complete meals with a local flavour. If you are in need of a treat or a hearty meal this is the place for you.

I can only describe the filling in the steak and kidney pies as something that looked and tasted like and to put mildly as pureed mush there was no visible sight of any steak & kidney, we were so looking forward to enjoying them, I'm in my 70s and still have my own teeth some meat would have been enjoyable to test them,

Visited Arnside today , Bank Holiday Monday and arrived mid afternoon feeling rather peckish . This place was extremely busy but after queuing for five minutes we got a table for two in a very tiny and cramped cafe. I went to place our order but all out of pies - just a few pasties and sausage rolls.

We didn't stop in however we did purchase two of the delicious pasties. The butter crust was mouth watering. We can see why it's so busy. We will definately be back when we stay here again, or may just 're route to pick a pasty up.

Whenever I’m in Arnside I will always go and have something to eat/drink at this little cafe. It serves all kinds of tasty pies with peas, mash, gravy and relish. The carrot and butter bean soup is delicious and so is the bacon, Brie and red onion marmalade relish sandwich. The cakes aren’t bad either.

Bill and Sue Ridgway have created a little gem here. Fresh, locally sourced meats and vegetables are the key ingredient in their tantalising range of pies and pastries. The tealoaf is pretty tasty too. Delicious coffee too.

Such a shame to be writing this review as this pub could be a classic Lake District country pub. Unfortunately the food is terrible! The chicken burger was full of what I presume was gristle but could have been bits of bone, undercooked and pink inside. Completely inedible. The lamb Henry was all fat and inedible too. Will never visit again and recommend you go elsewhere.

When we arrived at the pub at 6.00 last Thursday evening for a meal we were the only people in the restaurant, we placed our order to a lady in a fleece!!!! Not very professional, we placed our order starters & main course, we waited 45 mins for the meal to arrive, when it arrived it was our main course no starters my husband said to the the young lad where was our starters!!!! He said he didn't know we ordered starters did we still want them we said yes he came back & told us they had not been ordered, he took the main meal back & we asked him not to keep the meal warm & we don't want it to be heated up, another long wait for starters to come prawn cocktail was disgusting it was served on a limp dark lettuce leaf. After another long wait main meal arrived the sirloin steak meal I ordered was not very nice the steak was very light in colour it did not look like a steak & it was tasteless also the chips were frozen thin cut chips, think on we were the only People in the restaurant so they were not rushed of there feet. The ambiance of the pub could be better it is not a very good advert to see the double wall lights bulbs with only one bulb working in all of them!!! I wonder if they are short of money as it looks like they cutting down on funds which is not a very good advert for the customers. This pub was a great pub years ago & it looks like it is struggling, needs something done with the ambiance & better served meal!!!! This pub could lend itself of being a great pub with good meals!!!
