Welcomed by Gentleman behind the bar instantly as came through the door. Customer service level excellent served and mixed amongst customers effortlessly making everyone feel welcome. Pub nicely dressed for Christmas with warm atmosphere. Only popped in for coffee but food coming out looked and smelled nice.

Walked in to find it to be a great place to enjoy local pub grub, atmosphere and a cold beer in a welcoming spot.

Perfect burger and chips to refill the tank after a big walk from Windermere to Ambleside. Staff were very attentive and food was exactly what I was looking for ☀️

Came for the quiz. Good fun and Meg and Shane were quick and polite serving on the bar.

We stayed here for 2 nights, room was lovely and spacious. Staff were helpful, welcoming and friendly upon arrival. Beds we lovely, and comfy, decent size bathroom, If I was to nit pick they wasn't enough drawers or coat hangers for our clothes as a family of 4, we just left everything in the suitcase's. Food was lovely, as was the breakfasts we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place. Thank you for a lovely stay 🤗

Fantastic service from Leish, Lewis and Victoria with delicious food cooked to perfection by George and Aidan. First time at the Lion and will definitely be returning. Roaring fire, great atmosphere, service with a smile, what more could you want! 10/10 would recommend to a friend

A lovely pub right in the heart of Ambleside, the staff are five star⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and the food is lovely, special mention for Victoria, Leisha and lewis. I love it here and every time I come everyone is amazing and so helpful. I reccomend it to anyone visiting Ambleside 🌞🌞🌞

Truly an amazing place with a great atmosphere. Enough can't be said about the friendly and efficient servers there. I was served by Megan who has an infectious, bubbly personality and really made my time an enjoyable experience.

Came in with my two kids on a heaving Good Friday, & Victoria couldn’t have been more helpful, move people & rearranged tables. Food was awesome & reasonably priced, anyone eating or drinking in Ambleside, I would whole heartedly recommend The White Lion!!! 🥰👍🏻

This was a highlight of our trip to The UK last year. My daughter still talks about the Mac n cheese and full hot breakfast. It is a classic atmospheric pub with very comfortable and safe accomodation very clean and comfortable extremely well located and the friendliest most helpful publicans ever. I think they are from Liverpool and London but being Aussie it’s hard to place accents accurately. It’s a family affair and they’re a top family that were our first impression of England and could not have repped it better. Stay here 💯. Food is well priced and tasty as are the drinks (wide range) the atmosphere and location top notch. Ambleside is absolutely a gem. The staff are jewels.

My second time at The White Lion and the staff were even more welcoming. Absolutely top class hospitality. I'll be back with the dogs, Frank the puppy and Jake the colly.

We took shelter at the White Lion during an extremely busy wet lunchtime. We enjoyed a Bailey's hot chocolate each and despite being clearly run off their feet all staff were extremely friendly and obliging. We decided to book in for dinner and were so glad we did. Both meals (pork belly and the pie) were gorgeous, good quality and worth the price, service was just as friendly, and the place itself has a wonderful atmosphere.

A Great friendly pub the food is amazing I would recommend the steak pie really tasty and filling, they go the extra mile to welcome and care for dogs with water bowls and tasty dog treats it's a really great place.

Ate here Sunday evening (Mother's Day). No roast dinners left, so we had to choose from a limited menu. Two meals came out promptly, but the other two didn't arrive for 15 minutes (chased up twice) - very annoying! Food quality was ok, but I wouldn't recommend it. Poor service from the waiting staff - no checking to see if food is ok (or had actually arrived), and dirty plates not cleared away for at least 20min. The only good points were that the dining area is nice- light and spacious, and that the shift manager was very good - dealt with our complaint well, and also dealt with a potential fight between customers in a very professional manner.

Really lovely breakfast. Perfect poached eggs made by Georgi! Lovely atmosphere and nice to watch the world go by in the bay window.

Beautiful beer garden. Fish and chips were lovely but the sticky toffee pudding was such a tiny portion I was very disappointed with that for £8, was almost as if it was for a baby. Except for that it's a fabulous pub

Came to stay at Ambleside for the weekend The White Lion was our place to be . Food was delicious excellent service from Amber and Victoria felt very welcome and very much at home. We would highly recommend visiting The white lion if you are in the area.

Very warm welcome when we arrived, the room is lovely and very clean and the bed is comfy. Had an evening meal, very busy but the atmosphere was great, we was served by amber she was very helpful and very polite. We would stay again and recommend this hotel.

Omg. Couldn't finish my meal. There was to much. The staff couldn't be more helpful. The server was fantastic. Very polite nothing to much trouble. Great atmosphere

My partner and I were here for lunch today and both ordered sausage and mash. The meals came quite quickly but unfortunately not to the standard we would expect. The sausages were in my opinion cheap with rubbery skins, the mash was overcooked in the microwave and the onion ring was not even a whole one. Very disappointed, expected better for what we paid.

Popped in at 11:30 on the off chance that a Sunday lunch may be kicking about and to our surprise it was. We ordered one turkey and one beef dinner. They came out super quick and tasted absolutely delicious. Props to the chef Antony on a top Sunday roast. All in all, a really good Sunday lunch at a really good price. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.
