The Albert in South Lakeland

The food was absolutely gorgeous . All the staff were amazing but Astoria was attentive and made our evening so enjoyable. She is a credit to the Albert. The Johnny Morton Show which was on a Monday he is pure class and such a talent. Can’t wait to come back next year.

We visited this pub on a wet November Wednesday evening.The minute you open the door you can feel the warm,friendly atmosphere.We had already been in the afternoon and decided to go back and try the food, as you do. The pub is quite large with nooks and crannies to sit in.Lots of comfy chairs and sofas. The staff are so friendly and welcoming.We had drinks then ordered food.I had the game pie and my wife had the beef stew with dumplings.Proper winter warming pub grub.Everything was really good.I think you can also stay here.This would be an option for us if we returned as we liked everything about the place.We would highly recommend you give The Albert a try.Next time it'll be the whale and chips,that looked fantastic but a bit hearty if you want to leave room for drinks lol. The pub was busy in the afternoon with a mix of people including families and couples and busy in the evening. Really nice end to our 3 day break in Bowness-on-Windermere.

Been to the Albert a couple of times before, always love coming back, had the lasagne and steak pie this time, we couldn’t finish it all as the portions are so big but both lovely meals and the staff are always very attentive, will be back again, it’s our favourite pub in Bowness

Booked a table for 8 family guests for my wife's birthday 2 weeks before the event. Advised the manager that my daughters family are vegan. Turned up on the evening of 29th October and found the food very disappointing. There choice of food on the menu was very disappointing - My wife choose the Salmon - Sorry not available. Then she choose the chicken skewers - Sorry not available . Then she choose the Hunters Chicken- Sorry not available. She ended up with a pie. I choose the Baby Ribs - Sorry not available - How about the nachos - Sorry not available - how about the pie! My daughter's family asked - what are the vegan options? We can do a vegan burger but we do not have any vegan buns so it will come in French Bread or a slice of sour dough. We had a very poor meal and left without having a sweet. The staff apologised but said they were changing the menu in the next 2 days and were using up the bits left in the kitchen

Don't bother, rude staff, over £6 for a half of beer think they charged for a pint but you would know wouldn't you, very unfriendly, awful place go to elsewhere. This place needs to look at the staff, if they are rude miserable and ignorant then maybe they are in the wrong job. Plenty of nice pubs around go elsewhere.

Not impressed with my lunch today. Ordered a coronation chicken baguette and the chicken was dark and grisly. Couldn't eat it,did complain,only offered a replacement but after seeing the chicken in it it put me off. No refund offered 😔

Lovely pie but shocking lasagne. Genuinely haven't eaten such a bad lasagne since primary school dinners, coleslaw that's accompanied it was lovely though and just as well because that's all I got to eat :) never had a lasagne with just tomato sauce and pasta and no white sauce or cheese? When the waitress came over to take away our plates she had to ask me if I was finished. Before I could say anything she'd whisked away the plates and I was left feeling very sorry paying £17 for some coleslaw. That's said the roasts that were coming out looked incredible, they had just sold out by 4pm. Also beautiful red wine choices!

Fantastic and hospitable staff. Great classics for food selection that taste amazing. Great quality. One thing I would like to particularly mention and recommend is the Mac & Cheese. The UK does this dish quite poorly however this place did it perfectly. Such an amazing set of flavours. Also highly recommend the halloumi, fish and chips, and the steak pie. Will definitely be coming back on my next trip to the Lakes!

We called in on a day trip and both had the Broccoli and Stilton Soup and a Prawn baguette - the soup was amazing and the prawn baguette was delicious. The price was very reasonable. Service was polite and quick - nothing to fault

Rooms are basic, but clean . Basket left outside bedroom door with clean towels, tea, coffee, and shortbread every day. Nice touch. Will definitely be back

Called into this fantastic place on a recent visit to the lakes. Just had the one pint of Guinness, which was the best pint of Guinness I’ve ever had. Lovely place that we will definitely come back to.

Went in for a meal...homemade steak pie..chunky chips and veg..absolutely fantastic. Best meal I've had on this trip.

Great menu choices and the best food I had over a week in Bowness-on-Windermere.

Had a drink in here one evening then came back for lunch another day. Friendly staff, excellent hand pulled pint and great lunch.

If I was a secret diner whose sole job was to rate establishments, I would give The Albert the top score. This is entirely down to the staff. The food was good enough, prices as one might expect in a high catchment area resort. But the incredible, friendly and accommodating staff, without exception made the evening a very pleasant experience. Perhaps we are conditioned to expect less in this world, but whatever the secret to such staff training or selection could be bottled and sold. Impressive.

If your coming to bowness eat in the Albert food amazing and great value and staff are brilliant. Can't fault the place amazing. Highly recommend

Way to many table and chairs squashed in. Waiters walking into you all the time. Rude.You couldn't have got one more person in there.

The food in the Albert was excellent and the decoration and furniture of the upstairs restaurant is lovely. Service also very good.

Busy pub mid week, didn't stay but did pop in for food. Tastey and filling. Friendly atmosphere, but no one knew who the large gentleman sat with a falcon was in the large painting.

Food 10/10 (we had steak pie & fish and chips). Staff 10/10 - legends, very friendly and wanting to make it a great experience. Good Guinness too

Top notch Sunday Roast we will be back. The food really delivered. I was expecting average overpriced food in a tourist spot but this was nothing of the sort. Dog friendly too and very welcoming which is fantastic.

Had lunch here on a day trip. Waited 50 minutes and the pie pastry was not cooked. Filling OK but veg equally raw. Not great.

We came back twice because the food, service and atmosphere were so great! The fish and chips is out of this world, and the Halloumi Fries with the red chili sauce is to die for. This place is definitely worth visiting when you're in the area.

Restaurant is mainly pub grub but they try to sell the duo of lamb as fine dining. Portion of meat is diabolical more broccoli than the rest of plate.

Holy Moly, go here! I asked a local where we should eat and he said “Alberts”. Now after our second visit, I can attest you cannot go wrong here. Janet loves the goat cheese salad and I’m a fish and chips guy. They have incredible food! Super busy but it’s huge and no wonder they are busy. Best place in the village!

We had the cheese and onion pie with chips and veg- firstly thank you to the chef for catering for vegetarians but the pie itself was one of the best we ve ever had!!! The service is excellent and really friendly Staff ! Thank you so much .

Had the fish and chips. What came out looked fantastic! However when I moved the fish and oil dripped off the side of the plate pooling enough that it fell on the floor that was my first clue that it wasn't right. I think they were trying to give the fish one last swim. The fish was so moist it felt like I was eating a broth. Worst part is I told the waiter and he acknowledged what I said but quickly shuffled off dismissing what I said entirely. The oil wasn't hot enough I'm guessing but to just ignore my comment like that, wouldn't recommend this place.

Excellent Sunday lunch, beef cooked perfectly and served by friendly, efficient staff. Great customer service, fine ale.

Service was really good and the pub is dog friendly. Just can't give 5 stars as the cheese pie in my opinion wasn't nice at all, luckily my partner was happy to swap meals as it would've been sent back if not!

I visited thai pub for a lovely sunday roast. I recommend. Staff are friendly and service is great. Prices are reasonable for roasts

Gorgeous looking place but unfortunately we decided not to stay as they could only offer the roast beef for the children’s Sunday dinner (lamb and chicken on adults) and my sister is Hindu so doesn’t eat beef. The barman and the manager refused to swap the beef for any other meat (or even no meat/ nut roast) with the reason being it’s “already portioned in slices so they can only have beef” (what does that even mean? There’s a kitchen and chefs??) Anyway after an overpriced half a cider (£4.50) we went somewhere more welcoming and accommodating. Shame as the place looks lovely but it left a sour taste for us.

We rocked up hungry, smelling of lake and in desperation, we had two very whingey kids and a tired dog! The staff were amazing! They totally read our situation and ensured we were taken care of. They were kind, accommodating and thanks to them we ended up having a lovely relaxing evening! And also we visited in august, peak summer season, around 7pm and the place was clean! The toilets were clean, the floors were clean and the tables were clean. This, to me speaks volumes about an establishment to thank you again to the staff who ensure high standards, 10/10 compared to the pub we tried before we found the albert!

We spent the evening of our wedding in the Lake District at "The Albert" Pub. The team around Inès and Aimee were absolutely adorable throughout the organization and the evening. We had an excellent time, between dinner and dancing which will remain in the memories of all the guests. THANKS !!

Location location location! What a proper little pub, booming on a Saturday Yano. The stag inn of Wigan but in the lakes belting. 1-0 Will Grigg, Up the tics, come on!

Unfortunately we didn't get chance to try The Alberts food services due to a quick stop but just wanted to thank the manager (we think) who was in on Saturday 13th at about 3pm. We were looking for somewhere to breast feed our 8month old and after looking around and trying cafes which weren't suitable we thought we would pop into The Albert and see. We asked the Manager (Tall with classes wearing a black shirt) if we could possibly breast feed somewhere and straight away we were welcomed and made to feel so comfortable! Being told we shouldn't have had to ask and if there's any issues, then to come and get him. Found us a space where we could sit with our baby, pram and our Springer Spaniel. We travel to the lakes yearly and will defiantly be going back next year to try the food as it looked lovely, it was clean and tidy and staff were very welcome. Will be recommending and we really appreciated it!

Quick & friendly service, lovely setting, lots of seating, nice & clean toilets, excellent Sunday lunch, and great value for money. No booking required. We were worried we would not be able to get a table because it was 4pm on a Sunday and the euro’s final. however, there was plenty of tables available, we were served quickly at the bar and received our food/drinks promptly. Everything on our plate tasted amazing. Amazing mash and cauliflower cheese. I had the nut roast which was delicious and my boyfriend had the lamb. Very good wine. One of the best Sunday roast experiences we have had. Dessert (chocolate fudge cake) was very disappointing, though. We will be back and would certainly recommend.

Me and my husband first came here 8 years ago when we visited the lakes, we absolutely loved the food and the vibe and always wanted to re-visit . We're now here on our honeymoon and currently sat watching England Vs Spain and we've eaten here twice on our long weekend trip already. Such an amazing pub with the best vibe and the very BEST food. Staff are so lovely too ❤️ 10/10 would recommend

Lovely food, large portions. Good menu choices. Very busy, so had to wait a while for food, but understandable when so busy. Would prefer to order at table, but ordering at bar not a huge issue unless sitting upstairs as we were. Maybe consider taking orders at tables upstairs?

We stopped by for lunch. The environment is clean, spacious and pleasant. The food was very delicious. The dish with salmon and octopus was incredibly delicious. The food similar to focaccia-pizza and Mac&Cheese were also very delicious. Portions are sufficient. I definitely recommend it. We parked our car in the nearby parking lot. Since the service was a little late, 1 hour was not enough, so we went to the parking lot to pay for the 2nd hour.

Stayed in Windermere for 3 nights and this was most definitely the best place to eat and drink food was spot on every time service was excellent and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming

Visited this pub for a quick bite to eat. Pleasant enough, staff not overly friendly, but professional. Had cod goujons with a side salad, tasty and filling. In an ideal location close to a lake and local amenities.

Good pub with live music. Pices are above avage but not bad for Windermere. Food is very good and worth the extra cost.

Great pub with a lovely outside seating area perfect for sunny days. We hadn't stayed in Bowness-on-Windermere in almost 8yrs but remembered well the excellent ploughman's lunch or The Albert Board as its called there. Needless to say we were not disappointed, it was just as good as we remembered and all the staff were excellent 👏 👍. Even the attempt at a shamrock on the guiness was spot on 👏

My son and I had an evening meal here and it was excellent. Good quality food cooked to perfection and all the staff were so friendly. We will be back.

We've always gone to The Albert when in Bowness as the food has always been fantastic. Unfortunately on this occasion it was very disappointing. We had the steak pie, our favourite, but it was far too salty and the chips were undercooked. The staff and the ambience are still good.

Really lovely food and in a great location. Very nice decor, a good atmosphere with good music. Every time we visit the pub is always busy! The food is more expensive than a ‘normal pub’ but worth every penny. Definitely would recommend!

We ate here tonight. The pub was very busy but a helpful waiter directed us upstairs and gave us some menus to take with us. Ordered Hunters Chicken. Amazing! The veg was cooked perfectly and the potato rosti makes such a great change from chips. Bar staff are helpful and friendly and for the first time EVER I was served when it was my turn instead of all the tall guys behind me getting attention and me being ignored! Full marks to barman. Highly recommend this place. Have eaten here twice before.

We went here for some food mine was nice however my partner had lamb and it was really tough we had to find our own menus nobody said where there were but we were asked how food was by an experienced member of the team and was offered a brew after my partner said lamb was tough prob won't go back here cause its very pricy to not have any table service at all think there could be more of a personal touch here as it makes the price more worth it then

We have eaten and had drinks here many times. We sat down and ordered drinks and were looking at the menu. Yet again, which now seems to be the normal people Vaping at tables whilst others are trying to eat nothing from staff who walked past. I don't think anybody should have to be subjected to vape clouds whilst trying to eat. Very poor won't ever be back.

Very nice comfortable pub. The atmosphere is good, the staff are quick to serve and we're friendly. The pub is spacious with plenty of tables, as you walk in, the section to the right is invariably quieter when we visited, in case you go of a weekend when the disco is on. Its location is perfect, just a short walk from the lake, too. Well recommended, on our next visit, I'm sure we will drop by again.

Only the third visit to this pub. Ignored it for years. Think it has had a major Robinsons refurb. Far plusher than I remember. Two tiered outdoor patio. Lovely inside. Went for the Cumbrian Way. Paulicarus says yum. Sunday roasts look good. Damn..our dinner still 3 hours away. Well worth a visit.
