Just eaten here and was completely underwhelmed by boring bland food. I remember eating here years ago and the portions were plentiful but today I had to go out and have a follow up meal locally. The scampi and chips barely covered half of my plate. The scampi itself was thick with batter with hardly any content inside. The chips were tasteless, clearly frozen and bought in. Just terrible.

The Eagle and Child offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing getaway. They have a decent selection of ales and serve good food (we had sandwiches) making it a great spot for lunch. Our room was comfortable and the bed ensured a restful night's sleep. A hearty breakfast in the quirky dining room made for a great start to the day. Friendly staff, combined with the pub's charm, created a pleasant stay. The nearby brewery is a must-visit for beer enthusiasts, and the village itself offers a decent sized Spar, a really impressive coffee shop, and a proper chippy. With lovely walks in the surrounding area, The Eagle and Child is an ideal base for exploring the local countryside.

We stopped here on our way home from a weekend walking in the lakes and it was just a short detour from the main route. The setting is beautiful and there seemed to be plenty of parking on the roads as well as in designated spaces directly opposite. The pub itself is lovely, warm and welcoming, with lots of interesting historical and quirky artefacts on furniture and hanging from the ceiling. There was a lovely open fire roaring in the fireplace. The staff were very friendly, the bar had a range of good ales on offer and there was a friendly atmosphere. My friends chose the lamb stew which they were happy with. I had the sirloin steak, which was well done, although I had ordered it cooked medium & the chips were overdone. The dinner was tasty though and I cleared the plate (as usual 😁). I would go back and give them another try the next time I'm in the area.

Booked a table for my dad’s birthday with family as we offen do. Have been going for years and have always had lovely food. I ordered the special, Lamb Henry for just under £20. What I got was a large salad bowel full of sauce (soup) couldn’t see the lamb and was served with mash which dissolved in a couple of minutes and no other veg. Looked so terrible that I sent it straight back (something I never do) and asked for another meal. Was told I could order something else but would have a long wait! Didn’t bother ordering anything as everyone would have finished theirs. Terrible experience and unfortunately won’t go back. Sad as I had always loved the pub and even worked there for 4 years 😢

Came here with friends. Sadly, the food was not up to scratch. Some of us had halloumi to start, whilst the portion was good, it was barely grilled and could have done with longer. I had fish and chips for main, the batter on the fish was soggy, chips were potentially frozen chips and it was generally a sorry looking meal and not worth the price. The pub is good for drinking and socialising but is very tired and this is reflected in the food. I understand the current situation, however some small ‘low cost’ changes could be made at the Eagle and it would make a huge difference. Sticky toffee pudding was good and the bar staff were attentive and friendly.

This was our local for the 4 evenings we spent in town. The staff were very accommodating especially considering we closed the place down a few times. Dog friendly, even provided biscuits. Food and drinks were great. Garden was lovely, in front by the river and out back under the trees. It was all awesome!

We haven't been to the Eagle and Child for a few years, just because of circumstances rather than us not enjoying our last visit. This was a family birthday meal on the Sunday and we had a good time. The quality of food and the choices available were excellent. The menu is in itself very appealing, but the addition of the specials board meant that there were loads of things I wanted. However, the best thing was that my wife is vegan and she had way more choice than she is used to! To the point that she is now insisting that this is the only pub we can eat at in the Lakes area from now on (which doesn't bother me!). Bar staff and serving staff were very friendly and accommodating. The pub has a super location and is full of fascinating artefacts and clutter. I was very stuffed. Hope I can come again soon - once this blooming Coronavirus is gone!

This is without doubt the best pub in the lakes In the best village in the lakes. Great atmosphere. With real fires to keep you warm in the winter. A river front beer garden in the summer. I’ve spent many an evening sipping a pint watching the trout jump. Perfect. Real beers, great food. The lamb shanks are an institution. The locals are very friendly, happy to tell you about the local walks and attractions. A walk around the back of the beck is a must.

Just moved into the village and been into the pub 3 times. It's a great place. Food is lovely, atmosphere is brilliant and the hosts are so kind and welcoming. I even left my wallet on the bar and a kind customer handed it in and it was there when I called back to collect it. I'm really pleased to have this as my local and will be back frequently.
