Food and service both ok, if a little expensive, but not a pleasant experience at all. Clientele consisted of loud, sweary Scousers and Glaswegian fishwives holding long, loud conversations on speaker phone. You just wouldn't do it, would you?!

We ate at 2pm on a November Sunday and waited a long time for our food both starter and mains. We ordered drinks on the app that were missed. Chicken schnitzel came with a dozen skin on fries and the tomato and feta salad had a crumb of feta that could hardly be seen let alone tasted. A burger was over cooked and an 8 ounce piece of steak had so many sinews half of it was inedible and couldn't be cut with a serated knife. Nothing wrong with the service. Not value for money. Should have taken photos.

We had a really pleasant stay over 3 days. It’s a shame that you are reliant on the local council car park as the council isn’t well known for its generosity but as a blue card holder the additional free hour is helpful first thing in a morning and overnight parking is free. Serious compliments on your breakfast offering, we’ll definitely be back for more when in the area.

The commodore inn, what to say? Probably the worst accomodation I've ever had. Unfortunately I can't post the pictures for some reason but we stayed in the room called the gallery and it was shocking the bed was easily 10-15 years old with indents from people sleeping in it and was so uncomfortable we ended up sleeping on the floor. This morning when trying to shower and freshen up the shower didn't work the pull cord for the shower was up to the ceiling. I'm 6ft 3in and couldn't reach it the cord was ripped and coming away from the shower head. There were no curtains only a blind that doesn't open or close you have to move the lats yourself. Didn't have food here. There was cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and a gap under the door that you could put your hand through. However The girl that checked us in was lovely and friendly. No one to help with check out or complain to as I would have demanded a full refund

I call here every time I'm in the area as the service has always been impeccable, the choice of drink is varied and the side dishes have always been tasty. The place itself has had some major improvements over the past year. It now looks fresh and inviting, whereas it used to just look like a glorified drinkers pub. I'm really impressed with what they've had done. The building to one side, I decided to eat something more substantial today, but not a 'full' meal, so chose something off the 12-3 sandwich menu. I had warm ham and cheese, which comes with a side salad and fries. Thinking this would be a small plate meal, I also ordered onion rings, which is a regular 'go to' for me here. After only a short wait my food arrived, a MOUNTAIN of it. It arrived on a full size dinner plate. The sandwich, which was actually a really fresh deli roll, was laden with what looked like half a pig and a block of melted cheese!! It was amazing. Then there was the fries........ OMG, I think the chef was challenging themselves to see how many they could get on the plate!!... It was all delicious and most certainly EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY. There really was no need to bulk it up with the onion rings.... That said, I ploughed through the lot, and now cannot move. I could really do with an afternoon nap now!!!..... Will recommend this place to anyone AND everyone!!! A big THANK YOU to all at the Comm

My gorgeous lady wife randomly spotted a view of Ullswater posted on Facebook by Bill Bailey, and thoughts turned to a quick visit to The Lakes, where I grew up but Karen hadn't visited. My old home town of Grange- over-Sands that I departed manh moons ago was selected as a base for our two night break and after a bit of judicious Tripadvisoring we picked on the Commodore Inn for it's location, bay views and frankly astounding value (I was so surprised by our two night 'Winter Warmer' deal, booked on the hotel's own website, that I rang the hotel to check it was correct!). We arrived mid-afternoon on the Sunday (joys of being retired is that we can be flexible), parked in the public car park right in front of the hotel and checked in. The welcome was warm and inviting, as was our recently refurbished room (The Captain's Quarters) with a comfy bed, good bathroom and two chairs positioned to sip coffee and take in the stunning views out over Morecambe Bay. Our first night dinner and a bottle of wine were included the deal and food was top rate pub grub, with portions so generous that, with the help of some helpfully provided takeaway containers, we had a picnic sorted for the next day! Breakfast was also good and plentiful, and could not fault the friendly and attentive service from all the staff. All in all an excellent, great value location, with good grub and friendly staff. Just note the portion sizes and don't over order!

We've eaten at the Commodore 2 or 3 times before so we took family in over this weekend. Having had Ham egg and chips on a previous occasion that was very tasty and being a large portion, was good value for money. My wife and I decided to have it again this time, well something has gone drastically wrong in the kitchen because it was far from what we'd had previously. Apparently they'd run out if ham, reluctantly we accepted bacon instead. It came out swimming in oil and with under cooked eggs. My wife returned hers without even trying it, we had it refunded without question to be fair. Fortunately the meals other members of our had were nicely done, but not impressed I'm afraid.

We holiday in grange over sands a couple of times a year as a girls getaway and always visit the Commodore for drinks and some food. The food has always been fabulous but this visit was just outstanding. We went in for Sunday lunch and everything was just so tasty. Staff are all very friendly and accommodating. I am quite picky with what I eat so they brought all the veg out on separate plates so that I could choose what I liked. Great variety to choose from! Couldn’t finish all of it but the staff very kindly gave us take out containers so we could take it home for supper. Would highly recommend and can’t wait until next time!!

Firstly Hotel very unhelpful when trying to change my date for a 1 night stay. Arrived, paid for parking which was not mentioned in the hotels guide. Only when your in the room does the welcome pack state its free between 6pm and 8am, no good to most guests. Bar was very dated and uncoordinated, toilets were disgusting. Food, ok just basic pub grub nothing special. Upstairs to the rooms, the stairs were filthy and laundry left on the landing. Most rooms were named after a part of a ship, ours the Galley but you wouldn't know it as the sign had fallen off. Very small room, again very basic and a tiny window not the big bay window as advertised. Room clean, poor decor. tiny shower, sloping floor in bathroom and what was up with toilet roll holder, get a proper one and more than half a roll would be appreciated of cheap toilet paper. 7.30am 8am approx, fire alarm went off due to water leeks apparently Breakfast was ok but coffee filter was dirty, coffee burnt or old. Milk jug dirty. Again not a welcoming environment cleaning stuff and boxes greeted us. Balcony doors locked so no fresh air. All seemed very grubby. Will not returning and I would not recommend it. Sorry needs sorting out.

I don't often leave reviews but for the purposes of constructive feedback.... the meals which required seasoning and flavour were sadly below par to the point of not being enjoyable (soup & the mussels). The bog standard fried food was absolutely fine. The food isn't cheap (although average) so one would expect food to taste good especially if on the specials board. Booked a family room for 3 when we arrived we was told the rooms for 2 now our booking sheet clearly said for 2 adults 1 child we was told there would only be breakfast for 2 and we would have to pay for the other. Ok that's a strange start i thought then we got to the room a travel bed had just been inserted into the room blocking your walking route in and blocking the bathroom door from opening meaning if you needed the toilet in the night you needed to wake everyone and move the travel bed. as for getting out in case of a fire it was dangerous as the walkaway to the door was also blocked with a over hanging hat stand come wardrobe that was pinned to the wall at about 5.5ft high me being over 6ft and having various back operations i wasn't the type made for a limbo Dancing. tried to talk to the staff a few times could see it was to much trouble so went to the pub up the road and just left early without a breakfast. something really needs sorting as the room is a safety risk for 3 it would be a hard game to get 3 out in case of a fire fixtures and fittings are not the best a shelf in the bathroom was half heatedly repaired with 4 rusty nails and was still hanging off no extractor fan in the bathroom quite noisy outside if its a warm night as we was situated over the beer garden. needless to say we wont return although the owners blame the booking company and the booking company blame the owners its really not fair on the customer full stop.

I went to The Commodore after I was looking for some hearty pub food to eat, and seeing as it was in the top 10 of places to try here I thought I’d give it a go. First impressions when I walked in wasn’t great; there were signs that the pub was undergoing a refurb which was fine, but there was a general feel of uncleanliness throughout despite of this. I still decided to give it a go as most reviews were very favourable, so I ordered a steak and ale pie. It looked nice when it came out and was certainly hot enough, but that unfortunately was the only thing going for it. The pie itself was very hard, and I had a suspicion it might have been reused from lunchtime (I pray at least), the shortcrust pastry felt quite stale and the meat around the sides were hard. The chips were unbearably salty, and the mushy peas were very dry. I left most of the pie, all of the mushy peas, and cut the skin off the chips. I unfortunately hadn’t the time (or now, money) to go anywhere else and to be completely honest, I didn’t feel comfortable in asking for a refund as the staff seemed preoccupied with rushing around, kissing behind the bar or being quite uninterested. To top it off, I found that my tea cup that I had drained wasn’t as clean I thought it was. Extremely disappointed from a place that scored so highly.

We stayed for one night in this hotel. Bar and rooms were dated, bed was uncomfortable, and the carpets were dirty. I've graded it as 3 stars as the two members of staff, possibly owners were run off their feet day in day out doing bar service, food and room cleaning. They were still friendly despite this and the breakfast was nice in the morning. The roof in the breakfast area was leaking though which adds to the hotel being run down. First off i have no idea what venue the pictures are from but it certainly isn't the commodore inn, Grange-over-Sands. if they are it was many, many years ago. We booked as 3 family groups to stay here for a wedding in the area. On our arrival we were greeted in a very nice manner (the only plus point, i may add). When shown to our rooms they were tired and cold with a feeling of 1980s B and B. But we over looked this as we wouldn't be in the rooms very long. My wife and i decided to have a shower before going for food, and that is where the problems started. NO hot water, like at all. Told the staff who came and looked at the boiler situated in our room (crews nest) she pressed a few buttons and claimed the heating will work now. Well it didn't waited 20mins turned shower on and still no hot water. I went down again for a second time, this time a maintenance doing work in the bar area came up and also pressed a few buttons and again told it will work.....if didn't. Ice cold water.... i asked the guy why an electric shower needed the boiler looking at? He seemed to have no idea. All rooms that we had, pretty much the entire place had no hot water. Then the excuses came, "it's and old system and if we all use the showers at the same time the hot water will go?????? What do the bar have to do, knock on each room in turn to say you can now use your shower, as the crows nest have finished?? never heard anything so stupid in my 20 years as a heating engineer. we demanded a refund to be told they can't as the manager is away....we rang back 2 days later and still they can't do it as the manager is away.......to ring back again to be told we have to speak to the managers, manager???? How many managers has this hovle got? We cancelled our booking with Expedia in front of the staff, who received a call from them to confirm this....but still no refund for anyone in our party. As the venue are saying we have to contact Expedia for a refund. Complete joke!!! DO NOT STAY HERE, EVER UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SCAMMED.

We came to the commodore on sunday 24th and after a few drinks having travelled over 2 hours we decided to have pizzas. Salty and overdone was the end result. When asked how our meal was we said it was too salty and the staff on duty were apologetic considering how busy it was on the day and having gone back to the kitchen the chef did know that he had put too much salt on them, but still sent them out. We were told that no refunds would be given because it would look bad on the management which I thought was ridiculous. We came in again the following day and it looked closed as the tv was off. Wasn’t very welcoming with the staff member on duty didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. We caught sight of who we believed to be the landlord on his way out and again no interaction or a friendly hello from him. We came 2 years ago and had a fantastic experience. This time not so much with a landlord that doesn't seem bothered. Hopefully with the refurbishment going on it may get better.

We booked this Inn for 2 nights and it was a last minute booking. Good points were comfy bed and slept well, warm room, great view and very near to the promenade. Staff were great and you do get what you pay for. £150 for 2 nights......other hotels in the area are double this. Not so great points.....parking has to be paid for and is not cheap although free between 6pm and 8am, there is, apparently, free parking in the town but not sure where that is. Breakfast only between 9am and 10am and very limited but reasonable when it came out. Cobwebs in the bathroom and no heating. Water pressure and heat of water negligible, shower has a trickle but is warm. This was supposed to be a deluxe room. The Porthole room is big enough but over the pool room and quite noisy on first night. Smell of weed in corridor was very strong. WiFi......just remember the code starts with a capital which is wrongly documented in the information in the room. The place needs TLC and double glazing but coming out of covid it may not be possible. Trains start early but didn't really bother us.

The friendly staff made me feel right at home and the service was quick and efficient. The classic pub atmosphere added to the charm of my visit. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back!

Went here quite a while back, and definitely want to go back! The restaurant upstairs served a stunning Lamb Shank, probably the best lamb I've ever eaten, and what a stunning place it is.

Booked 2 x nights bed and breakfast, but only stayed for one. Room was cold due to the radiator not working. It was eventually sorted when evening staff came in......a bit of a knack to opening the valve apparently. The internal bathroom was pokey with no extractor fan and wallpaper bubbled with chipped basin and skirting boards. On the plus side, the room had a fabulous view of the bay. The food was good....wine very expensive and the staff, Jay and Karl were lovely. Very helpful and polite. Needs updating.

Had to wait to long to be served. Unfortunately we went back there again for a meal. Paid £17 for a meal. 6 chips small portion of pie and a spoonful of mushy peas. Disgraceful. Won't be going back. Oh and heard some shout from the kitchen, "can't get the microwave to work"

It is reasonably priced but lacks consistency, we were there in late October for drinks and that was good then we went there early December and was greeted by a foul smell at the door...

We booked for evening meal between Christmas and New year. The Web site has a "mission statement " it states their aim is to give you " the best Steak & Ale pie you've ever eaten " It was dire! Obviously been under a warming light or on a hot plate for a long time if not all day. It was dry, concrete like and inedible. The bar maid was very understanding and returned the meal to the kitchen. No more was available so ended up with a pizza which was average to say the least.

Lovely Christmas meal with my family. Very accommodating of my crazy 4 year old running around. Made him pasta and garlic bread as he wouldn't eat a Christmas meal. Food was lovely, staff were amazing and a great view for while we ate

Commodore Inn Stay I stayed overnight with a friend. The Inn is lovely, and the staff are fantastic and go above and beyond. We had the roast dinner, which was really delicious and full filling. My friend had the turkey, and I had the beetroot Wellington. Both option options were tasty. The room was lovey with a huge window with a great view. Breakfast was special and plentiful. I would recommend the Commodore Inn

Stayed at The Commodore for 1 night with the expectation of an evening meal. The room was available immediately, which was unusual. We booked it for the view, which was not disappointing, however the amount of flies in the window was. The sink was cracked in the bathroom, the tap was swinging, the shower curtain was filthy and the light in the hallway entrance wasn’t working. The bed was cheap and you could feel the insides in your back. The paperwork said there was hot chocolate from the local chocolatier, fair trade wasn’t the local chocolatier. My partner had to swat all the flies in the window and clean everything before we could settle down. We went down for an evening meal which was appalling. I didn’t think places like this existed anymore. The guy sat at the table who was watching everything who kept running up and down the stairs? I presume was the manager. Can’t you see what is wrong with the place. Unfortunately it’s a stunning location with so much potential.

Further to comments made by Eric D re our recent stay. We spent 4 nights in the Crow's Nest comprising a single and a double bedroom and a bathroom. Strangely, there was no door to the double room. We came to an arrangement where I made myself scarce whilst Eric and his wife showered etc and vice versa. Fortunately, we're good friends! Frustratingly, we couldn't access the internet in our rooms and had to go down to the bar to get any sort of internet connection. Cleaning the skylight in the hallway occasionally wouldn't go amiss either. Whilst we appreciated that the Crow's Nest wasn't expensive and that some issues couldn't be resolved immediately, we still expected the problems that could be solved (shower curtain and light bulb) would be during our stay.

Stayed at the Commodore for 4 nights, DBB, the bar was welcoming, staff very helpful, hotel clean. Food and drink very good, albeit dinner was a good plateful, and as we're getting on a bit, did prove too much at times, but reasonable quality. Now for the accommodation, unfortunately not as good as expected, whilst a very good price for B&B, the room had some problems. Firstly it should be said that the staff were informed of these faults, who promised to inform "management". Light in the hall way, needed an new bulb, shower curtain needed replacing, been too long in water becoming discoloured. Cold tap very wobbly, needed tightening before something worse happens. Toilet seat needs fixing. During our first night, lots of banging, which I eventually found to be a loose upper sash window, stopped the banging with beer mats, but that made a gap between the to sash sections, talk about drafty and cold, and let the flies in! Tried to stop the draft with a towel, see picture. After our first night we were out for the day, returned to find that our room was not serviced. Response from staff was to the effect that we had not left out the "clean my room sign" problem was, we didn't have one, once we got one no problems. A bit of TLC would be helpful, the room was clean though, and the bed comfortable.

The Comodore Inn requires a complete refurbishment tables and chairs have all seen better days. Decoration is old and cold. Food is overpriced and a very limited menu. If you are desperate for food it will tick the box. However plenty better places. OK for a pub poor for food.

We go to the commodore regularly but won't be going again for a while. Went last weekend and if you like Flies with your food your in luck cos there's hundreds of them. Disgusting. A few years ago they had the same problem and had to get a firm in to get rid of them. Come on Commodore get your act together.

Disappointing. Unfortunately the place needs a good clean. The table was so sticky my arm stuck to it. I had sausage, mash, peas, gravy. It was tasty and hot, sausages were peppery but very tasty. Comfort food. It’s just a shame that the lack of cleanliness overshadowed the quality of the food. Staff seemed very busy.

We had lunch a few weeks ago as we had seen a Facebook add. It took over an hour and a half for one pie of the day and one scampi and chips, it looked lovely when it arrived but the scampi was still frozen in the middle and pie was stone cold. We told the lady on the bar who said that she would send the chef down. I think the chefs name was John or Jowe, when we told him the issues with the food he made a sarcastic comment, saying “people pay extra for cold food”. ( I know he was joking but I found it rude and patronising.) He then sent over a guy who was sat at the big table next to the bar drinking moretti they said he said he was the manager but was clearly was not as he was dressed in a cap, tracksuit and trainers. We told him our issues and he explained they had only got a temporary agency chef as the only decent chef they could get had just quit. after we then stood for 10 - 15 minutes wanting to pay whilest the young lady with tattoos on the bar was playing on her phone (who clearly doesn’t want to be there). She eventually put her phone down to serve drinks but then sneezed all over the glasses so decided not to order any more drinks. The Commodore is such a lovely location with brilliant views. Its a shame that the staff and food and cleanliness was such a bad standard. After this occasion, we will definitely not be returning. And would not recommend anybody. I sincerely hope the owners will see this review and take action especially on the hygiene and cleanliness comments.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞

Such a shame to be writing this review as this pub could be a classic Lake District country pub. Unfortunately the food is terrible! The chicken burger was full of what I presume was gristle but could have been bits of bone, undercooked and pink inside. Completely inedible. The lamb Henry was all fat and inedible too. Will never visit again and recommend you go elsewhere.
