Booked a table for a friend's Wedding Anniversary. Turn up to be told the kitchen was closed. No apology or anything. Just told the guy behind the bar that he had just come on shift. Avoid at all costs. Would give 0 star if I could. Ruined a evening I had planned weeks ago. At 7.00pm on a Sunday night I was then unable to get a table anywhere else. So thanks for nothing .

My partner and I were staying nearby at the Haven site, and decided to pop in for a drink. We enjoyed it so much we went back again the following day! It’s a very friendly pub with a down to earth atmosphere. We loved playing pool and darts in the adjoining room. Great selection of drinks and friendly service. We were gutted they weren’t doing food as we’d definitely have stayed for dinner. Highly recommended.

We were staying at the local caravan park, and booked here - was a lovely meal (I had rag pudding, hubby Cumberland sausage) both really tasty Kids meals were good value - tomato penne was quite sweet. Garlic bread was lovely! There and then we booked for Sunday lunch too. Kids roast was good value for size you get. Adult roast- I opted for beef and pork (greedy I know) Beef was a bit overcooked. Maybe best to slow cook so it doesn’t dry or aim to serve pink! Pork loin roast- was ok but no crackling. The meat was a bit disappointing but overall the flavour was good, nice veg etc. Both occasions no kiddies doughnuts :( Need to defo order more in! All the staff we met were friendly All seemed clean around the pub and in toilets!

Don’t waste your money or time. Booked using their own booking system only to be called an hour before the booking to be told they don’t serve food until later & did I want to move the booking. When I asked why take the booking & not to move it I was met with some grumpy mumble & the phone put down. It seems customer service doesn’t extend to politeness here so we found somewhere else to spend our money. Rather strange how you claim to have listened to the call but miss one important fact. I was called by a female not a male which shows you are making up the reply. Not one was I off with you I questioned why you allowed booking to take place then rang roughly an hour before the booking. When you were caught out you got sharp and out the phone down on me.

Noisy atmosphere in general in this pub. Loud swearing could be heard clearly from the adjoining bar area. Highlight of the night was dogs are allowed in! Food was pretty standard no frills food. Asked for an extra portion of onion rings & received a dish of the shop bought frozen variety. When a local ( standing at the bar with one of the bar staff ) ordered the same thing he received a dish of freshly battered onion rings!!! When I asked the server about this they just looked embarrassed and walked away. It was our first time in this lovely village but we won't be eating there again!

Came here for a Father's Day meal with my family. Staff were very friendly and even though arrived a little early were accommodating until the table was quickly prepared. It was quick and easy to place food orders at the bar. Food was quick to arrive and I was pleasantly surprised. The meals were absolutely delicious and large. I myself had steak and ale pie. Please do not change what you are doing as it was delicious and amazing portion. Gorgeous chunks of steak and could clearly see it was home made. If coming to lake district again will look forward to visiting again for a meal. Cannot comment on rooms as I never stayed here.

After a hard day’s work, I needed a hearty Sunday dinner, so I headed to the Hope & Anchor in Flookburgh. Wow, the food was amazing and exactly what I needed. The pub’s cozy atmosphere and the friendly staff, Andy and Tony, make for a welcoming environment. I opted for the roast chicken, which was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Accompanied by a generous portion of crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and a rich, flavorful gravy, the meal was both hearty and satisfying. The Yorkshire pudding was a highlight, boasting a perfect balance of crispiness and softness. The Hope & Anchor in Flookburgh delivers an exceptional Sunday dinner experience that combines excellent food, welcoming service, and a cozy atmosphere. It’s a perfect spot for a traditional British meal that leaves you feeling satisfied and content. Highly recommended for anyone in the area seeking a memorable dining experience.

Lukewarm reception was followed by being asked to pay an extra £10 for the room - which we refused as we had been quoted a set price of £120. We were then asked to pay upfront in cash - which I have never done before in 20 years of using hotels! Room was very small (had to put suitcases in bathroom so we didn't fall over them). On a plus side, it was a lovely bathroom, comfortable bed and very clean. Think a fairer price for the room would be around £80.

We was staying at the nearby Lakeland caravan site and decided to go for our lunch after visiting the south lakes zoo. We arrived at the pub at 1:30pm 5 of us, we got asked if we had booked and we explained that we hadn’t booked. We was all shocked that we got asked this as there was nobody in drinking or eating, the manager explained that he was very busy and that we wouldn’t be able to eat. To be 1:30pm in the afternoon with not a soul in the place and turn five people away because you was so called extremely busy with nobody in sight. I would however highly recommend the pheasant inn which is nearby and that’s more professionally run.

I booked on line the day before and received a confirmation email that all was in order. After a long day’s drive we had a drink and then asked about our table only to be told that there was no food being served for that week. The apology was very minimal and no explanation was given. I understand that something beyond their control may have occurred however the online booking system should have been adjusted. I have the impression that this hotel is unreliable and really doesn’t care. Also be prepared for “colourful language “ from guests. There is little else available in Flookburgh aside from a takeaway of dubious quality. If we’d known in advance we could have made alternate arrangements.

Booked a table for 7:20pm, walked from the caravan site, with 2 hungry teenagers, approximately 25 minute walk away. We fancied a change from the caravan site and wanted to have an ‘eat in a local pub’ experience. Arrived at 7pm, thinking we could have a drink in the beer garden before ordering food. As we walked in, we weren’t acknowledged by the staff. We could sense arguments were going on between the bar staff and customers in the pool area. Overheard the barmaid saying the chef was 18 years old and on her own, so show ‘some respect’. After waiting a few minutes, the same said barmaid stormed behind the bar saying the kitchen was closed. The barmaid serving us, repeated this to us whilst shrugging her shoulder. Firstly, we were told this because ‘fights’ were ‘breaking out’ with other customers, because of the food. Then we were told, it was because the card machine was down. We explained we had walked over a mile to get there however, no apology was given, no offer of a free drink, nothing! In fact the barmaid very much dismissed us and turned away to speak with her colleague. No idea if the food is any good, but going by the customer service, I would avoid!

A very sad effort of a pub, no cider , no food, well apparently fryer was 'down' so we could have very limited ie: mash ! My husbands came cold and when asked for it to be warmed up the bar maid pulled a face as if it was not possible. I had ordered peas extra (£1.75) with mine and they weren't on plate, I could cope with that but when I told the same bar maid on finishing she did not believe me and went to check with the kitchen. It is as if the pub do not want custom ! Well the aint getting ours ever again .

We had a room at the back and it was horrible. There's no getting around it. Small, dark and smelling very strongly of damp. The twin beds were touching. The carpet was very stained. Everything was tired and dated. The bathroom floor so cold it was unpleasant to go in there. Maybe if you get a sea view room it's nice - they looked ok from the outside, but if you are on more of a budget (we still paid £90 per night for the room) I would recommend looking elsewhere. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good but not with £15 a head and that was after a discount.

Very tired and in need of complete renovation and it shouldnt have been advertised as a four star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful working under poor conditions. Breakfast choice poor unless you like eggs and the vegetarian full English was dry and obviously been kept under a heat lamp. Definitely not 4 star and I understand the day after we left the hotel was closed for renovation.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Rothay Manor Resturant. The service was perfect and the food and wine outstanding, maybe one of the best meals my partner and I have had. We started with a glass of champagne and a delicious beautifully made mise en bouche in the lovely lounge / bar area. We moved into the dining room and the seats were really comfortable and the whole area gorgegous. As ever in my reviews I won't give any spoliers away about the food so you have to visit but needless to say it was all outstanding; absolutley delicious and beautufully presented. I indulged in some wonderful cheese then a delicious dessert as well. It was difficult to choose what to have off the a la carte menu and I hope to be back soon to try more of it. Go on and treat yourselves.
