Just visited for a pint and a soup after a long walk in the hills. Good atmosphere in the bar which was very busy. It’s obviously a popular place with tourists and hikers as well as the hotel residents. They had a good selection of beers and my pint of London Black Porter was very nice but a bit pricey at £6.60. The soup of the day was also very tasty and obviously homemade but again pricey at £7.95. I know prices are high in the Lake District but surely £7.95 is a bit over the top for a plate of soup in a bar? I was in Ambleside the previous day and a plate of soup in the Temperance Inn was £3.95 and it was equally as good.

This pub used to be our favourite in Grasmere...being going down the pan for few yrs now. The take it or leave it attitude amazes me. This pub has no popular Gin's on offer, not even Gordon's!!. The 'Lakes' brand of anything is pure chemicals and gross and Coriander Gin does not appeal either. Sorry, but not everyone wants beer. Only pub in Grasmere with 1 style of glass for everything except beer. People come to the Lakes from everywhere, not just the UK and most want a drink they are familiar and looks nice. I'll attach a pic of my £7 + drink... Rant over

Tweedies Bar is a popular eating place and it name and convoluted access from the car park might deter all but those intent on finding a very good eating venue. A stone floor and wooden stools furnish the entrance bar, and the ‘restaurant’ continues the stone flooring and has basic wooden tables, wooden chairs without cushions and walls decorated with bar mats! Yet once you are seated, there is attentive service, a menu that offers a range of eating styles and the actual food served is very good. My wife’s Coq au Vin was a generous serving of chicken leg and thigh meat cooked to perfection accompanied by a sizeable chunk of bread and country butter. My simple cheeseburger and chips provided a well cooked patty topped with cheese, bacon and pickle in a toasted brioche bun was fortified by a tasty relish and frites that were just like in France. We were pleased we had found our way to the entrance that enable us to enjoy our meal

It was a lovely place to stay right in the middle of Grasmere. Breakfast had lots of choice with continental, full English and lots more options. My favourite was the Tweedie stack. We had a group dinner reservation in Tweedies Bar and we enjoyed the quality of the food, it was tasty and the portions were massive (especially fish & chips). One thing that slightly spoiled the experience was the wait time - we ended up waiting a long time for each dish, the service seemed slow and it got so late that we ended up skipping the dessert.

Staff are the worst I have witnessed. Walked in and was abruptly told that we could not sit down as all tables were booked. No real issue with that but it was not the welcome you would expect. One of our group pointed out that he could be more welcoming and was told ‘don’t tell me how to do my job’. Fair enough we stood for a moment to decide what to do whilst some of our group ordered drinks. Then another member of staff rudely shouted as us to move. We really had not choice where to stand and did not even notice that they wanted to pass. We just thought let’s get our drink and stand outside and said to the waiter that the staff are rude, to this she replied shut there f@ck up! We are not easily offended and never leave bad reviews but unfortunately we just found the whole thing unacceptable. We drank our drink outside and left. I felt I needed to leave the review so that the owner is aware of the situation.

A really good meal with nice staff and good ambience. I don't usually write many reviews but having read some poor ones on here I thought I'd give an honest appraisal. Table booking was moved forward for us on request and ready on time. Staff pleasant. Food very very nice. Smoked salmon starter nice mix and decent size. Bouillabaisse was excellent. Not your traditional pub grub but done very well with loads of good fish. Needed a side of veg but the broccoli was amazing. Would have gone down well with some crusty bread but ordered chips and they were cracking. In all main cost over £30 but I didn't feel short changed. Wine list limited but Sicilian white was v good. We couldn't manage a pudding! We were at the Yan the previous night and I have to say we enjoyed both meals.

So salty it would have pushed your blood pressure through the roof, it was soggy and grey... 🤐 Chicken wings cooked in old oil so it had that weird taste and no amount of honey and mustard is going to cover that up. Whenever we stay in Grasmere we always book our dinner here at least one night - book early during your stay for dinner as always full. The food and service are always excellent and you will always leave very full and with a smile on your face. Come very hungry if you intend eating more than one course, as choices on each course are very tempting, and never disappoint. The staff are very friendly but professional at all times. Great place to go also if you like your beers!! Friday nights are particularly great as there is music on at 9pm encouraging you to stay out that bit longer! The vibe/atmosphere in the bar/restaurant is always good. For example on our recent visit everywhere else we ate although good, the atmosphere was dull/lacking. However when we entered Tweedies for our dinner it was as though we came alive. The place was very busy and the vibe/atmosphere promised a great dinner/night. When we arrived there was no table available and our booking had been crossed out. I was told that I should have phoned to confirm the booking although this had not been relayed to me previously. I appreciate that the staff were very busy, but their complete indifference to our plight was profound. It was by now 8.15 in the evening. Fortunately things turned out OK. A very disorganised place. We called to book for dinner and have a dog. We’re told that you can only book the restaurant and not the bar where dogs are allowed, and that bar is on come first basis. We then show up and were able to sit at the bar when we were told that we had to move to make space for people at the restaurant. We were then moved to a small corner and tried to enjoy our dinner. The food was ok, but we were rushed by the staff to finish and they tried multiple times to remove our plates while there was still food on it. Unfortunately the staff behaviour and lack of organisation in overbooking the restaurant resulted in a poor experience. This place has a great potential, please be more organised and up up your customer service.

So this review is only of the bar and restaurant area as that’s all we visited for. First impressions of outside were amazing, rly nice looking building, amazing large beer garden, food menu on wall near entrance (not cheap by any means but expected when you see the place from outside). Walking inside is a very different story, really old tables chairs and stools which are very uncomfortable, a very strange layout, place couldn’t decide whether it was an old fashioned pub (beer mats all over the wall etc and a log fire) or a family restaurant or even a church given the weird pews we hat to sit on. Next was the bar, lots of very young kids trying to be hip (the staff), which may be suited in a college area of a city but certainly not Grasmere. Listening to them try and push their over the top range of IPAs onto people was just cringeworthy. I personally love an IPA or a craft ale but this place has ridden everything else apart from its selection of lakes brewery brand ales, so many than it had a fridge full of cans next to the bar as well. Again I’m not saying this is bad but it’s limiting it’s audience, and the ones I tried were not nice at all. The first one I had was labelled as “pale ale” and was like water, the sign was turned around after my pint so I guess I got the dregs of the barrel. Wouldn’t hurt to have a Guinness or a common lager on the end of the bar. Next was the food, remember this wasn’t cheap, which was very disappointing when it came to the table. Fish and chips was £20, fish was soggy and smaller than average and there were 5 single chips lined up underneath it. 5 chips. There were more chips on my daughters children’s fish and chips!! Absolutely shocking value for money and the staff there were quick on their toes to collect the plates while you were still eating to hurry you out for the next mug that walked in. Also they had football on tv and signs advertising live music which again I found strange due to the layout and clientele sitting around us. The owners really need to decide what type of establishment they are running. So to sum up - if you’re 18-20 year old and fancy your first pint of IPA with bad advise from someone possibly younger than you this is the place to be. If you want shockingly expensive poor food this place ticks your boxes. If you have any sense of self worth and want a nice pint with some delicious food then drive ten minutes down the road to Ambleside giving this place a very wide berth!

Very disappointed. Visited Grasmere yesterday and decided to try the traditional but rustic Tweedies Bar for a quick bite to eat. Both sets of doors front and side are locked so you have to walk around the back which is fine but potentially a hardship for less able visitors. We ordered 2 chip butties costing £14 for the 2, then we ordered one pint of draft cider and a glass of white wine so when the waiter totalled up to £34.05 I was stunned and he didn't give me a itemised bill so I asked for one. What was the extra £20 for I questioned... Basically they charged £5.50 for cider, £1.20 for a tiny bag of nuts and a massive £13.35 for a glass of wine which was a basic bog standard sauvignon blanc....The cider was flat and undrinkable and the wine tasted like it has been opened for a week. £13.35 is scandalous and my thought are of your going to pour a glass knowing its scandalous then have prices for all to see rather than plastering your walls with beer mats!!!!! To add insult the chip butty wasn't a butty it was a small roll which was dry and tasteless. A butty is slices of bread not a roll... Beware folks as we left there £34 worse off thirsty and hungry.

Another great time at Tweedies. It's always friendly, with relaxed but attentive service. Cosy without being claustrophic.

We visited Tweedies to watch the Sunday football and have something to eat. The pub was full of people watching the game but the staff didn’t turn On the sound making it a strange vacuum of atmosphere. Drinks here are ridiculously priced. A glass of NZ Sauvignon was £13 + and a pint or Erdinger £7.20. Proper London prices. They have a great selection of beers but like many places are now card only and they dont tell you the price, just hand over the card machine. We had food here too. Fish and chips - good size and tasty and a burger was good too but at £18 + per meal, there are no cheap nights out here. I know that lakes is expensive but it seems to be tipping into unaffordable for many.

Only used the Bar. Extensive range of Beers but extortionate prices. As most businesses in the Lake District, it's a case of gotcha.

Came to the Hope and Anchor today with the family for Sunday lunch. Everything was spot on the welcome, the service and the food was exceptional. 14 very satisfied customers. Andy and the team were amazing. Will be back thank you all.

We had a room at the back and it was horrible. There's no getting around it. Small, dark and smelling very strongly of damp. The twin beds were touching. The carpet was very stained. Everything was tired and dated. The bathroom floor so cold it was unpleasant to go in there. Maybe if you get a sea view room it's nice - they looked ok from the outside, but if you are on more of a budget (we still paid £90 per night for the room) I would recommend looking elsewhere. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good but not with £15 a head and that was after a discount.

Very tired and in need of complete renovation and it shouldnt have been advertised as a four star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful working under poor conditions. Breakfast choice poor unless you like eggs and the vegetarian full English was dry and obviously been kept under a heat lamp. Definitely not 4 star and I understand the day after we left the hotel was closed for renovation.

First camping trip pub we ever went into back in 93 aged 18. Sad to see it closed today. Major rebuild in progress and will be I recognisable. So I'll never see how it was again.

We had a wonderful dinner at the Rothay Manor Resturant. The service was perfect and the food and wine outstanding, maybe one of the best meals my partner and I have had. We started with a glass of champagne and a delicious beautifully made mise en bouche in the lovely lounge / bar area. We moved into the dining room and the seats were really comfortable and the whole area gorgegous. As ever in my reviews I won't give any spoliers away about the food so you have to visit but needless to say it was all outstanding; absolutley delicious and beautufully presented. I indulged in some wonderful cheese then a delicious dessert as well. It was difficult to choose what to have off the a la carte menu and I hope to be back soon to try more of it. Go on and treat yourselves.
