Went on 2 out of the 3 nights we were in Grasmere for dinner. Both meals I had were delightful. Maybe the best pub food I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten at that Michelin star joint in Marlow). I had the ox cheeks and the chicken with risotto. Both were packed full of ingredients and flavour that showed care and thoughtfulness in a way most restaurants don’t bother with. A really good risotto is hard to come by, and most are so boringly plain- but theirs was perfect- topped with tasty grilled chicken that worked so well with the meal and cooked to lock in the moisture. I did not expect such amazing cooking in such an unassuming pub (with a cracking botanical garden though). But so good!!

Don’t bother if you have dietary restrictions- chef would not swap a chicken pate on a fish platter for Houmous. Having queued for ten minutes and arriving at the bar to order at 1725, we were sent to the back of the queue because the kitchen doesn’t open until 1730. Queueing for another 10 minutes we were then told we should just order the vegetarian one.

We've been to Tweedies restaurant area many times over the years and it's maintained a decent standard though doesn't seem to have quite the variety and quality these days - on this occasion the menu was about to change in a few days and a number of items just weren't available! Service is pleasant. Beer selection is wide but again seems to have dropped in quality.

This place was recommended to us by a lovely owner of the place we stayed in across the street. Beautiful area, huge garden, easy to find the table and enjoy fresh air, signs everywhere, so easy to get to bar/restaurant. First impression "it's lovely". We were quite early so decided to grab a drink and enjoy the weather. I asked what gin do they have and bartender said "it's over your head". It was a list of names of the gin but nothing extra so no help here. A bit odd but ok. Staff was not interested, happens, but we decided to come back later for a dinner as place was still pretty impressive and we liked the menu. Second time place was really busy but one person helped us find a table. My partner went to the bar to grab us something to drink. Gin and classic tonic for me but bartender didn't bother to listen so gave him diet tonic. My partner tried to correct it so asked for classic tonic two more times and he heard snarky "what" "what" and "it's your pronunciation " from a bartender. Well. At this point I can probably mention that we're both Polish and we both are pretty communicative after 10 years and lots of travelling. It was extremely uncomfortable, my partner was upset, it's our holiday and being targeted for being Polish, I thought we are past that time. I asked for manager. He came to our table, apologised and assured us that he will speak with bartender, but my parter mentioned that the same guy made a comment behind the bartender about my partner to "speak more clearly next time". Obviously he must have forget about that when he came to say sorry. Reading other reviews I believe that this place can't handle the pressure and obviously has a problem with non English accent people and basic customer service. Finally. Food was amazing. Whoever is cooking there has done a wonderful job. It was delicious. Thank you for saving our evening. Conclusion. We won't visit this place again. So rude and xenophobic. Thankfully there's plenty around.

Staff not very helpful and appeared to almost discourage the potential booking for dinner. Entered after a walk for a beer (4pm ish) and enquired about availability for a table at 8pm, told that all tables fully booked. When passing at 8pm noticed that most tables were free and then became aware that last food orders were 7:30pm, why couldn’t staff just state this earlier🤷♂️. Get the impression that this bar trades on continued tourist turnover with little concern for repeat custom.

Don’t book overnight atTweedies on a Sunday if the sun shines ! Very disappointed after booking a room for last Sunday - no mention on booking of restaurant not opening - was asked to book a table in The Bar - no Al a Carte menu available and because the sun had shone throughout the day and crowds filled the garden - the menu had been decimated leaving the choice of not what would you like but this is what you can have ! For circa £200 including food there are many other establishments around the Lakes who would have offered better Although it’s totally irrelevant the experience left a poor taste - I was there solo to celebrate my 40th wedding anniversary alone after my wife sadly passed away suddenly last October

It's a nice pub in a nice location but we were there a few weeks ago and I had a terrible meal. It wasn't cheap, and it was supposed to be a steak and blue cheese pie. The lid was like cardboard, the steak dry, no gravy to speak of and no identifiable cheese. It was the last one they had left, which was an explanation, but they simply shouldn't have sold it to me. I was tired after a ramble and hungry, so I ate half of it. Never going there again.

We came to Tweedies after a walk in Grasmere for a drink. The staff member who served us was slim build, in his 30s, dark brown hair like Mullet with shaved sides. He spoke to myself and another female like dirt. He huffed and puffed about putting lemonade in three drinks. He then asked for ID and as my friend went to get the ID he said “I hope they don’t have ID” which is so unprofessional. When the ID was presented to him he said “I will not serve you if you have an attitude” He then forgot one drink so when we asked again for it he was accusing us of not asking for it and huffed again. Completely rude and patronising. We were going to stay for food however this experience drove us not to and will not be returning.

Pleasant enough bar with a good range of ales but because we are in the Lakes they don’t have to try too hard. Fish & chips is an eye watering £20 which means it should be good, unfortunately its just OK. Smooth battered fish which means the oil is not hot enough & the batter not cold enough or the mix is wrong, the fish greasy. Seven large jenga style gastro chips which are like roast potatoes (the moment of these really has passed) & overly salty mushy peas. Service is efficient.

Interesting venue behind the hotel building with wide range of good quality lagers, beers, ciders and ales; often listed in Good Beer Guide. Regrettably card only thus excludes a lot of customers, apart from the obvious issues surrounding Economic oligopolization and Economic censorship, customers [myself included] prefer to pay with cash, hence had one beer and left. Total payments uberfication is a virus I cannot believe is becoming so endemic in U.K, incredibly sad.

We use this place as an incentive to do a really long walk around Ryder Water from the centre of grassmere. The walk itself can be testing but you are spurred on by knowing you'll be having a pint or two in this place when you've finished and it puts a spring in your step. There is free parking on site and the bar itself is lovely. A fabulous range of drinks including lots of local ales that are delicious including the Loweswater gold which is a favourite. They do food as well but we were just in there to keep warm and have a beer or two. The atmosphere is fantastic, the service friendly but professional and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Plus point - the beer is ok and typical price for Lake District (i.e. high but no more than most pubs in the Lake District). Went there with my wife, her two sisters and their husbands. Food was very overpriced. A number of items (coq au vin and the mushy peas) had be returned as they were lukewarm. There was no price list for wine, so when my brother-in-law enquired re a bottle of Chardonnay, £40 was the response, which he declined and normally money is no object to him but he wasn't going to be ripped off. The service for us, although slow, was just about satisfactory but we noticed that for some other diners it was very poor. Probably the worst dining experience I have had for many years - read my other reviews and you will see I often give high praise. To summarise, go here for a beer, but I would stay clear for eating.

Just visited for a pint and a soup after a long walk in the hills. Good atmosphere in the bar which was very busy. It’s obviously a popular place with tourists and hikers as well as the hotel residents. They had a good selection of beers and my pint of London Black Porter was very nice but a bit pricey at £6.60. The soup of the day was also very tasty and obviously homemade but again pricey at £7.95. I know prices are high in the Lake District but surely £7.95 is a bit over the top for a plate of soup in a bar? I was in Ambleside the previous day and a plate of soup in the Temperance Inn was £3.95 and it was equally as good.

This pub used to be our favourite in Grasmere...being going down the pan for few yrs now. The take it or leave it attitude amazes me. This pub has no popular Gin's on offer, not even Gordon's!!. The 'Lakes' brand of anything is pure chemicals and gross and Coriander Gin does not appeal either. Sorry, but not everyone wants beer. Only pub in Grasmere with 1 style of glass for everything except beer. People come to the Lakes from everywhere, not just the UK and most want a drink they are familiar and looks nice. I'll attach a pic of my £7 + drink... Rant over

Tweedies Bar is a popular eating place and it name and convoluted access from the car park might deter all but those intent on finding a very good eating venue. A stone floor and wooden stools furnish the entrance bar, and the ‘restaurant’ continues the stone flooring and has basic wooden tables, wooden chairs without cushions and walls decorated with bar mats! Yet once you are seated, there is attentive service, a menu that offers a range of eating styles and the actual food served is very good. My wife’s Coq au Vin was a generous serving of chicken leg and thigh meat cooked to perfection accompanied by a sizeable chunk of bread and country butter. My simple cheeseburger and chips provided a well cooked patty topped with cheese, bacon and pickle in a toasted brioche bun was fortified by a tasty relish and frites that were just like in France. We were pleased we had found our way to the entrance that enable us to enjoy our meal

Staff are the worst I have witnessed. Walked in and was abruptly told that we could not sit down as all tables were booked. No real issue with that but it was not the welcome you would expect. One of our group pointed out that he could be more welcoming and was told ‘don’t tell me how to do my job’. Fair enough we stood for a moment to decide what to do whilst some of our group ordered drinks. Then another member of staff rudely shouted as us to move. We really had not choice where to stand and did not even notice that they wanted to pass. We just thought let’s get our drink and stand outside and said to the waiter that the staff are rude, to this she replied shut there f@ck up! We are not easily offended and never leave bad reviews but unfortunately we just found the whole thing unacceptable. We drank our drink outside and left. I felt I needed to leave the review so that the owner is aware of the situation.

Not your traditional pub grub but done very well with loads of good fish. Needed a side of veg but the broccoli was amazing. Would have gone down well with some crusty bread but ordered chips and they were cracking. In all main cost over £30 but I didn't feel short changed. Wine list limited but Sicilian white was v good. Great place to go also if you like your beers!! Friday nights are particularly great as there is music on at 9pm encouraging you to stay out that bit longer! The vibe/atmosphere in the bar/restaurant is always good. For example on our recent visit everywhere else we ate although good, the atmosphere was dull/lacking. We then show up and were able to sit at the bar when we were told that we had to move to make space for people at the restaurant. We were then moved to a small corner and tried to enjoy our dinner. The food was ok, but we were rushed by the staff to finish and they tried multiple times to remove our plates while there was still food on it. Unfortunately the staff behaviour and lack of organisation in overbooking the restaurant resulted in a poor experience. Had a fabulous meal, the service and staff were great. Good atmosphere in the bar as we had the dog with us. The bouiallebase and the lamb rump were delicious.

We didn't stay here but had a meal and drinks in the beer garden. The food was ridiculously overpriced for average food. We were served a cloudy beer that was neither replaced or refunded. The bar manager had no intentions of refunding g but wanted to replace it at the normal charge. DO NOT COME HERE .

Fantastic bar, plenty of outdoor space. Staff are helpful and friendly. They also have Budvar on which is the best lager.

This great pub is a credit to the new manager Tony and his team, the food is delicious we had Sunday Lunch and went again on Wednesday for tea, all the meals were tasty, great varied menu and reasonably priced, It was really busy which is a good sign of the quality, will definitely be back in next time we are at our caravan Angela and Chris Sheridan

Very tired and in need of complete renovation and it shouldnt have been advertised as a four star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful working under poor conditions. Breakfast choice poor unless you like eggs and the vegetarian full English was dry and obviously been kept under a heat lamp. Definitely not 4 star and I understand the day after we left the hotel was closed for renovation.
