A Brilliant Evening at Source at the Gilpin
Weâve been lucky enough to visit a number of Michelin-starred restaurants over the years, and Source at the Gilpin really stood out. From the food to the service to the atmosphereâit was a joy from start to finish.
We were looked after so well by Elle, who was warm, friendly and really thoughtful throughout the evening. And Francisco, the sommelier, was excellentâfull of knowledge and passion as he talked us through each wine pairing. Every glass felt carefully chosen, and each one brought something new to the food.
To start, I had the Cornish Lobster. It was rich, perfectly cooked, and beautifully balanced with the peanut bisque and roe sabayon. Then came the Cornish John Dory, served with golden caviar. This was a highlightâdelicate and luxurious, and plated with real care. It was great to meet the section chef who made it. You could tell how much pride went into the dish.
For dessert, I chose the Gariguette Strawberry with Pink Peppercorn. Light, fresh, and just the right touch of sweetness to end the meal. The petit fours were also a treatâplayful and full of flavour.
We were invited into the kitchen afterwards, which was a lovely touch. Meeting the chefs and seeing where the magic happens made the evening even more special. Everyone was kind and clearly passionate about what they do.
The only thing we noticed was that the pacing of the courses felt a bit quick at first. But as soon as we mentioned it, the team adjusted and slowed things down, which we really appreciated. It didnât take away from the evening at allâin fact, it showed how attentive and flexible they were.
All in all, a wonderful experience. Delicious food, thoughtful service, and a really memorable night. Weâd happily return.
My review is for the shop and only the shop.
When I went into the shop to by some cakes, was not able to pay for said cakes because I had a ÂŁ50 pound note. As far as I no that is still English money.
Chose this restarant for my birthday dinner. The food was superb and we had excellent service, it was so good we went back a second night and from talking to others dining we were not the only ones to repeat a visit. I had the cheese souffle, special of fillet steak tails and the cheesecake, all of which were delicious.

A nice alternative to pub fayre. Good quality food. Especially the Pork Chop dish. Around ÂŁ20 per main. Service was good. Atmosphere was pleasant. Music nice.
It was a Tuesday night and reasonably busy until 8.30pm.
It is a bar too. But quite expensive really.
I would recommend, for good quality food in a quiet restaurant setting. No dogs during food Service. Although two tables outside would cater for this.
Just the best curry I have had in the area I've been twice the staff and especially the manager Bibby are so polite and helpful and nice. They really can't do enjoy for you to give you exactly what you want and more.
I have no hesitation in recommending anyone to try them and I went there because I was recommended to go there myself by several people I know.
I wouldn't go anywhere else now is great and just up the road from me. I'm delighted they open there and it's a real treat to get a meal from there I wish I could go more often.
Really try them you will not be disappointed Mal.
The food was incredible! The staff were polite and friendly, the atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect. Would highly recommend, this was the best meal of our trip to Windermere. Will definitely be returning one day!
This was a fabulous find for a couple of days away.
We loved room 11, right up in the attic, it was lovely and clean and really relaxing space.
We really enjoyed the meals- spring lamb at its finest.
The staff were really excellent!
We used The Lamplighter as a base to hike Orrest Head which starts a few minutes walk up past the Tourist Information office, it was a splendid walk in the late afternoon.
Thereâs a beautiful walk to a really serene park of the lake near Raygill called Millerground.
25 minutes drive to hike up Helvellyn from The Swirls at Thirlmere Lake and a choice of ParkRuns for Saturday at 09:00 if youâre in the area, we even made it back in time for a shower before checkout at 11.
A superb time.
Thank you
Tucked away down a narrow alley, it's worth finding Bar Es! Best Mexican food outside of Mexico! Great cocktails, great beer selection, our favourite dishes were the spicy prawns, squid, nachos, and meatballs. The Bar Es in keswick is just as good.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff.
We stayed in a club room and added the rose petals to our stay.
The view from the window was of the car park, but when lying in bed all you could see were the trees and distant fells - ideal really!
The bath was spacious and had a separate hose for rinsing hair which was a nice touch.
