I went to the house where Beatrix Potter, a children's author, lived. Apparently National Trust members can enter for free, but since I wasn't a member I paid a £15 admission fee. I only watched Peter Rabbit, but after seeing the movie ``Miss Potter,'' I became very interested in her and came here. We took a ferry across Lake Windermere, walked for about 40 minutes, and then took a bus to the ferry terminal on the way back. There are footpaths that run parallel to the road here and there, and I arrived here after seeing many sheep grazing in the green meadows and listening to the babbling of a stream. I could feel that Mr. Potter loved this kind of nature, so I think it would be a good idea to walk there if you have time. Apparently during the coronavirus pandemic, reservations were required, but the person at the visitor center told me that people walking or taking the bus can enter without a reservation. However, if you are visiting by car, you will need to make a reservation as the parking lot is small.

You must book a car parking space! The house isn't huge and there's no cafe, just a coffee cart in the garden. You have to walk up the road (no pavement) from the car park to the house. If your children only know Disney Peter Rabbit they'll be disappointed... this house is the real deal.

A cute cottage, bigger on the inside than the outside, I’m sure! But you can understand Beatrix potters love for the place. The staff are amazing, they seem to know the place inside out, and while no one can fully grasp the workings inside anyone’s mind the staff help you get a better idea of what made Beatrix potter who she was.

I loved our visit to Hill Top and enjoyed learning even more about Beatrix Potter and her life. The parking was available for us as we had pre-booked and arrived early. The house was a few minutes walk away and was well staffed by National Trust Volunteers. For those who hadn’t previously purchased a ticket they were turned away from the car park and given directions to another place to park. The day we went was busy however, I am sure it might be even busier on weekends or holidays. Overall, as a Beatrix Potter lover it was a fabulous opportunity to see something that was very personal to her. As a fellow human it was significant to appreciate her clear leadership and commitment to the environment and conservation and her futuristic preservation of an area we are all able to enjoy and benefit from. Her amazing work is far greater than her authorship.

Beautiful place, buying tickets and selecting a time is a must. The house and gardens are beautiful and tell a great story. The staff in the house add some great details of the story and background. The rain let up just in time for a coffee and a treat out in the garden before we walked around the gift shop for a while. 1.5hrs is about the time frame but you are close to town for other shops and lunch. Watch the movie before you go to add to your trip. “Miss Potter”

It's amazing to see some original artwork and handwritten notes. The grounds are very well maintained, and the picture boards show which part of the garden was painted for the books. I'm sorry, but £15 for adult entry here is unacceptable. The house is lovely but small and takes 15 mins max to go around. Ditto the garden. NT are shamelessly ripping people off at this property. Parking is a nightmare and there is no respect for the small community here, it must be hellish for them in summer season. At least buy a field and improve the parking. Also much more could be made of the garden.

Hill Top was the home of Beatrix Potter, now managed by The National Trust and an iconic, historic house (old farm). Very quaint and a step back in time. Kept just as Beatrix had used it with many of her treasures still here. Also items of her original artwork and some handwritten letters. Nice to see where she wrote and sketched, though even on a bright day the rooms are still quite dark. Well done to the NT, staff & volunteers who, despite this being a busy venue continue to be irrepressibly friendly & helpful - they’re very knowledgeable too. Have a look online at the National Trust website for entry times and current costs. Booking is essential with tokens issued at relevant times. For those with mobility restrictions, access to this quaint farmhouse isn't easy with steps, uneven garden paths to the entrance and stairs inside. There isn't a ‘proper’ cafe here, rather a coffee stall selling drinks and light snacks. Small NT Potter themed gift shop in yhe garden. Well worth visiting, but definitely book (essential if you are thinking of driving/parking there - car park is limited both in capacity and size of vehicles). The car park is a short walk from the farm entrance along a road with no footway. Ticket sales & for those who have pre-booked, the check-in for your token is at the car park.

Terrible customer service! The young girl at the till clearly did not want to be there. She was huffing and puffing at customers! Yes, it was very busy as yesterday, 15th October was a beautiful autumn day but I would think they would be glad of end of season trade! I could not sit down because they were so busy so opted to ask for take away coffee and cake, only to be told by her 'I'm not doing take away'. Really? The local co-op is closed for a refurbishment and they really could capitalise on that if they employed more capable, less miserable staff! Shocking!! Won't return!
