Outgate Inn in South Lakeland

A very tasty sundays roast! I had loved it!

Fantastic hidden little pub on the way to Ambleside, the BEST Sunday dinner ever!

Sat outside. Beer nice & cold and food looked good. Didn't like the fake grass in the beer garden, or the high fences which meant there was no view. Lots of tables, all regimented in line to get maximum capacity. Lacked charm and character. Didn't go inside, so can't comment. The pub is on a walking route so it probably gets quite busy on a sunny day.

We stayed close by, so cannot rate the rooms. Sunday lunch was delicious, and there was plenty to eat. The bar staff were very friendly on the 3 times we went to the Outgate Inn. There is an area for parking on the opposite side of the road.

Popped into the Outgate inn, after we couldn't reach Ambleside due to oversized vehicles. Although we had no reservations, the staff managed to squeeze us in (8) service was friendly and enthusiastic, food was fantastic. I had the special linguine, stacked with huge prawns, my wife had the fish pie, we followed it up with sticky toffee pudding so light it could float away. A nice selection of beers available on draught. I'd recommend the Cumbria way. Cozy atmosphere, great food and staff. Highly recommended

Lovely old inn good food and service

Called here coming back from Hawkshead, had food and a drink, quality was very good wifey had the curry & I had the sea bass both dishes were excellent, but 1 gripe I had with the fish was it was a very very small portion and for £18: 95 thought this not good value .

They managed to fit our table of 8 in on short notice, food was brilliant even near end of service.Every meal we had on table was banging and presentation attractive. Service of, what we can only assume, was the manager (only been here 6 weeks) was amazing and you can clearly tell how much he loves his job, he was attentive and fun. This goes for all the staff including the chefs. It was pub quiz night which had great questions and an enthusiastic energy that kept us in the pub buying drinks and loving every second of it, we even got Helen on karaoke as a break half way through who was wonderful The whole place was dog friendly and they even shut all the gates later on so we could let them have a run around We didn’t use the hotel but we had a great night and will be working our next trip to the lakes around returning here What a banging staff team this little place has

Very friendly staff. Good pub grub. Beer choice average. Sky and TNT sports. Great location for a pint after a walk. Well worth visiting.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Outgate Inn. The pub had a really lovely feel to it, the staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was delicious (our boys loved the cheesy garlic bread starter so much they had it twice in the week and said it was the best they’d ever tasted!!) There was also some food options to take away which was great after a long day hiking in the mountains! We would highly recommend a visit to The Outgate Inn.

March 25: we called in for lunch after a walk and the owners are different to last time but the food, atmosphere and friendly service was still there, they were really nice to chat to. I had the chicken burger and it was fabulous. The beer garden is great to sit out in. Always worth a visit when in the area. 2 years ago: The best fish and chip beer batter I've ever tasted

Great hospitality and good food. Excellent choice of ales and top shelf also. Well worth a visit if passing by or on a ramble. Competitive prices as well.👍👍.

Stopped in for food on Friday night, had a fantastic chicken burger, really good quality, nice selection of beers too, homely feel, ticked the boxes we needed it to, will be back.

Amazing food, amazing service, and really enjoyed having our meal next to a cosy fireplace. I highly recommend this place :) Dog friendly with good parking as well.

My husband and I had the privilege of having Sunday roast dinner two days ago. From the moment we arrived,the manager Jamie made us feel welcome 🤗, the pub was very warm and made you feel nice and cozy, the roast dinner was one of the best roast dinners I have eaten, the quality of the food was second to none , served hot with any sauce you required . We couldn't find fault in any part of our dining experience. The staff and customer service was outstanding and we will definitely return when in the area . We wish the landlords every good luck for the future , you have turned the pub around, WELL DONE JAMIE AND NICOLA 👏👏👏👏👏

Outgate Inn is a gem of a find! Amazing customer service and food was homemade and super tasty. Have a great back area which is lovely in the summer too. Definitely one we will be visiting again such a freindly family feel to this pub. A lovley country pub and restaurant, where all are made to feel very welcome. Great value for money too.

Such a warm, friendly and relaxed pub. Excellent food and very reasonably priced for the quality. Cosy fire, sports on the TV, dart board. Will be back!

Lovely warm welcome. Relaxed atmosphere. Good choice on the menu, Food is very good. Located between Ambleside and Hawkshead. There is a car park but if you want to leave the car behind it is easily reached by bus, with bus stop right outside the door. I would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my time at the Outgate inn. The staff were friendly and helpful and the open fire was a welcomed addition on a cold day. The festive menu was superb with lots of different dishes to choose from. It has a cosy, family friendly atmosphere and I will definitely return.

Fabulous! Had dinner there while on holiday. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, and the biggest fish and chips I’ve had in my life! Nice crispy batter. Beer was good too. Will definitely go back.

The second time finishing our walks here this month at the Outgate Inn. Terrific dog friendly pub, with amazing, friendly staff. The food is lovely and tasty. My fave is the steak n ale pie with fresh veg n chunky chips!! There are other menu choices, which look amazing and most likely as tasty as my fave!! 😋

Stopped off on a rainy day after a walk around tarn hows. Found a quiet pub serving decent pub food with lager and ales to match. It was around £23 a head for our group, we ordered a drink and a meal each with few starters to share. Apparently the place has just been taken over by new owners but this didn’t seem to affect the quality of the service which was superb and friendly.

Super friendly new owners. A very Warm welcome to us all, even though all soaking wet with two very wet cold doggies, a nice warm fire was put on to dry us all out. The food was brilliant and huge portions! This is a “proper” pub with a lovely atmosphere.

Had a lovely lunch today in the garden. The sandwiches were lovely, as were the staff. Thankyou. A lovely break on our walk around the Hawkshead area, scenery stunning. Very dog friendly too.

Found this place whilst trying to find way back to Windermere..... Very quiet pub apparently only just reopened. The landlady and her little girl were very friendly and chatty and the beer was very nice.

Never been here, but constantly ask for my review

Signs outside with open times but all locked up looking like closed for business. Stuff on tables seen through dirty windows,not looking like it's ready to open any time soon! No indication of closure on their website

Staying only a few metres away from the outgate inn only to find it closed for most of the week. If meals not available then surely a beer would have been. It is the main summer holiday.

Arrived with hopes of dinner. Already found nothing available Hawkshead. Although all tables reserved, got us in on 1 if we could be out by time of reservation. Had meals & drink. Would've had pudding but no one came back to take our order. Burgers & chips. Good standard pub fare. A few dogs in, odd table or bar 4 drinks only.

Ordered fish and chips, was OK, but not stand out good. No tomato ketchup either, but I did see one of the staff with 2 bottles in hand later, must have been out to buy some.

Local and only a 2 minute drive or 25min walk from hawkshead. Great food and very friendly staff, good service and a big beer garden out the back.
