The Tilly Bar and Kitchen in South Lakeland

A nice alternative to pub fayre. Good quality food. Especially the Pork Chop dish. Around £20 per main. Service was good. Atmosphere was pleasant. Music nice. It was a Tuesday night and reasonably busy until 8.30pm. It is a bar too. But quite expensive really. I would recommend, for good quality food in a quiet restaurant setting. No dogs during food Service. Although two tables outside would cater for this.

As coeliacs we were pleasantly surprised to find out that 50%+ of the menu was GF and that all of the fried products were gluten free so no risk of cross contamination! The starters were great however things took a turn when we received our mains. We ordered 2 fish and chips and when they arrived it was just that, Fish and a few chips… even though on the menu it states mushy peas. We waited a few minutes to see if anyone would return with our portions however they did not so we got up and asked a member of staff who just said “oh ye they have ran out but do you want us to put some green beans on for you” in which we accepted but it’s not the same thing 🤷🏼‍♀️. Not once when we were ordering or waiting for our food did anyone inform us of this shortage which leads us to believe they were hoping we just ‘wouldn’t notice’ the peas missing. Also the mash with the steak and ale pie is powdered and horrible. 10 minutes we received our ONE portion of HARD COLD green beans in a tiny bowl. During our whole main meal we were not checked on once despite the restaurant being near enough empty and staff just standing around chatting. When a blonde lady wearing black came to clear our plates we did confront her about our dissatisfaction and disappointment in a pleasant way about the beans and general meal and expressed how we just wish it had been mentioned prior and all she responded with was ‘must have slipped my mind’ in a very rude and unapologetic way. Once we had this confrontation we did not see another member of staff again ! We were now being ignored! our drinks were all empty, we showed no sign of leaving but no dessert menu was offered. So we made a point of staying until a member of staff came back to the table which they never did. Instead this rude blonde lady was standing behind the bar staring at us giving us a dirty look. After 10-20 minutes we finally have to get up ourself and make our way to the bar to pay the bill as it’s clear the staff are incompetent. At the bar not one word was said and we we will never return to this god awful restaurant because of a silly little blonde woman who needs to redo her training in communication and customers because she is embarrassing .

We were in Windermere for a girls weekend and we enjoyed a lovely meal at Tilly's. Great vibe, lovely staff and the food was spot-on. Would highly recommend.

Food was pretty good but the girl serving us looked like she would rather be anywhere else! She was not friendly or welcoming, did not smile once and seemed so disinterested in doing her job that it would put us off going back as it brought the whole mood down.

I drank the same local beer, but the one I drank yesterday was more frothy and cheaper.

We were only in Windermere for 3 nights but we ate at The Tilly Bar and Kitchen for two of those 3 nights, as the food was delicious, the cocktails were heavenly, the customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The costs were very affordable, yet the quality and taste of food were out of this world. This restaurant proves you can get high-quality food for affordable prices. I'd 100% recommend this bar if you want a relaxed time with delicious food and drink.

Great find in Windermere. Food was freshly cooked and plentiful.service was as requested wirh a little break and a nivmce little corner spot for the pup. Recommend the pie and the burger, but the bread basket and olive oil went back empty too !

Brilliant cozy dinner setting. Pet friendly - met these 2 huge extremely well behaved dogs having dinner with their owners, which only made the dinner more exciting. Had the sea bream and some sides, good portions and the hasselback potatoes we're definitely the star of the meal. They have seating past the bar as well, if you prefer a more intimate experience.

Right this review is for Boris the manager who was rude to me and my friends. I visited this restaurant on the 7th of February 2025. My friend and I ordered a meat pizza and we specifically said that please don’t add pork only chicken as my friend is Muslim and is Halal. We asked if that was possible and they said yes it was so we placed our order. The pizza came full of pork. When we asked the waiter who was the manager he said “yes it’s chicken” like we were stupid. We asked him 3 times if he was sure it was chicken he said yes and just left angrily. We called him back and asked “what is this” he said “prosciutto” and i retaliated “is that not pork?” he immediately said “let me ask the chef” he refused to admit his mistake until he was called out. The staff was very rude to us (we are brown) while they were nice to the other guests. Never coming again. If you’re a person of colour DO NOT go here.

Amazing food, would definitely come back!

It tastes good, but a little salty. The food is served very quickly, and all meals are served at once. The room is very warm, and the waiters are very polite. There is no mandatory additional service fee, which makes people want to tip. extent. recommend! It’s just that the menu of a certain red book is not of much reference value, because when we asked, she said that they had changed the menu three or four times, and some of the dishes on it were very old. You can try it! Worth it!

Staff were lovely and very attentive. Food was okay. Paid £19 for ploughman’s cheese plate which had 2 small pieces of cheese followed by a loaf of breed to take up the plate space. More shocked at paying £9 for a coffee with baileys in, and £8.75 for a late with baileys. Most places charge £4-£6 so this was extortionate.

Lovely food and warm cosy atmosphere in winter. Expensive but one of the tastier meals we had. We got pizza and the fish pie.

Incredible food! We had the soup of the day for starters and it tasted amazing! We had a lamb rump as well as the fish pie and both were Incredible! It took a while to get served but it may be due to being busy which is understandable. Will definitely be coming back to enjoy more of the menu, thank you!

One of the best places to eat in Windermere, The Tilly has always been a firm favourite for us. The food is incredible, with a great selection of options for the whole family - dog friendly too which is perfect. Lovely friendly atmosphere and ideal location for a walk to the pub. Could not reccomend more highly, always enjoy. Thank you all at The Tilly.

So, waiter didn’t seem interested. Drinks came after the food arrived. Food way over priced. GF options are a plus. But food wasn’t great for the price.

Everything lovely, but the service was poor. Asked for a food menu and sat waiting for them to come and serve us for 15 mins. Sat and stared at the waitress she still didn't serve us. Decided to go elsewhere for food. Shortly after another couple walked out cos they didn't even get a drinks menu for 10 mins.

Visited today with two friends on a train trip day out from Poulton le Fylde. We chose The Tilly because of the menu and the reviews. We were not disappointed on either count. A great lunch fabulous relaxed atmosphere caring staff we all had the ciabattas ...bacon brie and cranberries goats cheese pesto and peppers.. ..and roast beef with horseradish and red wine gravy. The very best ever ( and we eat out frequently) enjoy this find. Janet Simmons

A lovely bowl of warming vegetable soup, for me, and steak and ale pie with greens and chips for Dave. Absolutely lovely.

Serving staff is a young teenage boy who’s not sure what was ordered & has to ask a few times. Pizza tasted good, so is the mixed salad. Would I come again ? Mmm..

Alot of the local eateries seem to pride themselves on the atmosphere they have. This one seems to be no different, as it does have a very homely, warm feel. The food is good without being spectacular. The drink selection is quite good and is probably what will keep you here longer than expected.

Got to Windermere.. hungry. So we popped in. Pint and a great meal. Staff were lovely.

A brilliant restaurant in the middle of Windermere. The food is excellent, very generous portions, so much so that we couldn't manage a dessert! A big menu with plenty of choice. Great cocktails, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.. Definitely recommend. Not sure if you can book in advance, we didn't and we were lucky to get a table... Will definitely revisit.. Need to try the desserts!

Pure chance and what a find, we are staying in a very expensive hotel. The chef could do with visiting Tillys. We had sea bream. Superb. Belly pork, delicious. Our little dog was welcome too. Service was 5* too. Congratulations everyone. Its a great venue.

Outstanding. Excellent selection of gluten free options. Swift service from staff and food being served. Generous portions and delicious to boot, so much so, we we went two nights running.

Beef sandwich was excellent, the gravy was amazing. Would be a five on the food if it was proper beef chunks and not the deli style beef slices. Crushed ice in the drinks was a nice touch, too. Would return.

Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Party of 5 who each had a different dish and everyone enjoyed it.

I came to this place 3 years ago when it was called The Pig and had to come back. I was initially sad that it had changed hands but actually it is still really nice. I had pork belly, delicious. Was able to get seated straight away. Service was quick. Ambience was chilled and classy. Another great experience

Great quality british dishes: steak pie, fish..., vegetables simple, but fresh and cooked to the perfection, service very friendly and good. Great pub for a cosy dinnner. Two evenings on a row.....

The staff were lovely and the bar is dog friendly and well located. I'd go for a drink no problem but the food was a real let down. It tasted suspiciously like Tesco frozen meals and was very disappointing.

I came here the other day and I was really content when I left, food was amazing specially the goat's chesse salad(best one I ever had) service was really good and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed, 5 out of 5 stars no doubt.

The fish and chips plate was a letdown on all fronts. The lack of flavor in the fish, combined with an overly heavy batter, made for an unenjoyable meal. It's a classic dish that should never be this forgettable. If you're looking for a satisfying fish and chips experience, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

The food was nice, however we found 5 bones in the fish, and after bringing it to their attention, we were offered no discount or any other way to make it right. It’s the first time I’ve encountered something like this, and they were very happy to take full price for the food. What a shame.

First meal in Windermere, and we came here because of the positive reviews. Food did not disappoint and my son commented that the sea bream was as good as what he had in Portugal. The sharing platter and fish and chips were excellent too. Best part is that it is located right in the centre of town.

Went for food tonight , just wondering passed and it look good , we went in and got served by Emily B , she was amazing so nice and very professional, food was delicious we had a pizza and a burger and then deserts , everything was spot on and amazing for the price of it , very good portions , would highly recommend if coming to Windermere ❤️

Went here for my daughter's 12th birthday as we noticed she has the same name as the restaurant and it didn't disappoint fast service and the food was great. We will definitely be visiting again next time we're there.

The food was delicious and the portions were large. The only imperfection was the bad attitude of the male waiter. The four of us ordered 3 main meals, and he gave us 3 plates to share. When we asked for another plate, his attitude was bad ☹️ Perhaps due to different customs, we can only give 3 small plates for 3 main meals, but it's okay Tell me not to give too many plates and don't have a bad attitude.

We popped in today, late afternoon and were so warmly welcomed. Lovely cozy atmosphere and great decor too. Seating inside and out. Excellent.

We came here for lunch. Ordered the shared platter. Enjoyed it very much! The fries were a bit too salty but the rest of it was spot on. The atmosphere was great as well. All of the bi folding doors were open so on a hot day it was very comfortable. The music also made it a very chill place. We will be back!

The two waitresses at the entrance were very aggressive, but very aggressive. They wanted to take away my food and were discussing behind our backs. If you want to enjoy good service, please don't come. Waitress is impolite and rude, don't come if you want good services

We visited The Tilly Bar twice during a recent visit to Windermere. Our first stop was with our dog and we chose to come in as it was advertised as dog friendly. This was mid-afternoon so we had two smaller dishes- I had loaded nachos and my wife had the Chorizo and prawns. On the second visit we came in the evening (without our dog) and decided to have the large sharing platter. All our dishes were decent portions and of good not great quality. We found the service and atmosphere to be friendly and relaxed both times. Overall this seems like a nice place to eat lunch or dinner, with or without a four legged friend.

The food was lovely and service very good. Food and drinks a little pricey, but then many places in the Lake District seem to be expensive. Definitely recommend the steak and ale pie as a main and apple pie for dessert.

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst service I have ever witnessed. Food was so bland and after we told the server the service completely changed. So unprofessional discussing guests behind the bar. No manners, shoving the bill down, horrible stares. We were so polite after being asked why we hadn’t eaten the food and still paid for the overpriced tasteless meal we had. We came for a birthday and it was completely ruined by the service, especially by the last server who took our payment. Stared at us horribly whilst taking the bill and whilst leaving, with no thank you or apology. Awful, unprofessional service. Do not go here!
