Stayed here for dinner, bed and breakfast after hiking up the old man of Coniston. What a charming little pub, warm and friendly service, fantastic beer and proper Moorish home-cooked food in the evening. I could’ve ordered everything off the menu. Stayed in the strawberry bank suite which was absolutely lovely and in keeping with the style of the Inn
We’ve been many times before and always enjoyed the food and friendly service. Today wasn’t as good - very limited menu, kedgeree was dry and the kimchi chicken overdone and extremely salty… kids menu is good and the breakfast is great, but the main lunch menu is limited and not great value for money for what it is.

A very nice place to eat. The staff are friendly, polite and very accommodating. The facilities are clean and tidy. The food was great and everyone was very happy. It is dog friendly and child friendly. I would recommend a visit.

Disappointing Experience at Langdale Chase – Poor Service and Lack of Basic Hospitality
We paid for close to £700 for one night at the hotel. It was a disappointing experience.
From the moment of arrival, there were numerous issues:
• No assistance with luggage, despite my partner being heavily pregnant. We were left to carry heavy bags ourselves with no support offered. I had to take them up the flights of stairs myself.
• No greeting or welcome on arrival – we were left standing awkwardly in reception while the staff were busy.
• I had tried to call ahead to confirm our arrival, but no one picked up the phone.
• In our room, the only still water provided was a small bottle with a broken top that could not be opened.
• There were no water glasses provided in the room, only wine glasses and coffee cups.
When I raised concerns with the hotel, I was told by a staff member that the reason for the lack of assistance was that they were “too busy”. That said, it did not seem to be that busy.
For me this explanation is not acceptable. Being busy is no excuse for neglecting basic hospitality and guest service – especially when charging premium rates. I had sincerely hoped for a relaxing and welcoming stay, but instead, it was frustrating and stressful.
Cavendish St, Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6QA, United Kingdom, England
I would like to offer 5 stars specifically for the quality and portion size of our food.
The Cavendish is tucked down a narrow cobbled street through a stone archway and is beautifully picturesque. With a couple of smaller tables out front and a huge, well appointed beer garden at the rear where you may also have your meal.
We sat indoors on good heavy furniture and an extremely rustic table that matched the condition of the roof beams which are obviously hundreds of years old. Although cozy inside it did not feel "Dark" or stuffy. Our service girls were just attentive enough and very pleasant to speak with. The 2 gents that appeared to be running the show were a little more flustered.
The scenery from the back garden was particularly nice with trees in bloom and the church tower just visible too.
It was quite expensive but the Steak pie was outstanding and I am sure the shortcrust pastry was homemade and quite filling. My wife chose the salmon fillet with salad and found it also very well presented and cooked but found the chilled rice quite odd and un palletable to her taste.
I would definitely reccomend the Cavendish to family.
A fairly small, simple and quaint restaurant, but excellent value and delicious Chinese food.
The chicken and sweetcorn soup is some of the best I have ever tasted. Well seasoned and the texture is perfect, as often some places make it way too gloopy.
The prawn toast had more prawn in it than virtually every other place i have been, furthermore you can tell its homemade rather than the oh so common freezer to fryer ones made with a prawn and chicken mix.
The hot garlic beef steak was absolutely divine, so tender and spicy, a standout dish.
Only downside, the sweet and sour wasn’t great, I have much better elsewhere, but the rest of the food is so good it doesn’t bother me, I just don’t order it anymore!
If you have somewhere to eat at home, there isn’t much advantage to eating out at the restaurant compared to as a takeaway as its a simple setting, but regardless the staff have always been very friendly and catered to our needs well.
The best Chinese in Bowness/Windermere and it’s not even close! (And trust me, at the time of writing we have been to them all!)
First I went to Pizza Express, it was 16:45 on a Saturday afternoon and they turned me away because they were too busy even though there were only about 5 people in there. Thank goodness they did! I found this gem of a restaurant instead. They were happy to fit me in without a booking and the staff were lovely and welcoming. The wine was chilled and the pizza was absolutely delicious.
Ditch the chain restaurants and come here instead. You won't regret it!
We arrived mid-afternoon, and not realising they were closing early, proceeded to order lunch for us and our small person. They didn't tell us and let us eat - it was only partway through our meal we realised as the place emptied and the sign on the door mysteriously turned to closed. If we had known / realised, we wouldn't have put them to the trouble. But we were glad we were able to stay because the service was friendly and the food was delicious and filling. And even more special, one of the servers played games and did magic with our little girl, which she thoroughly enjoyed and has been trying to recreate ever since. A lovely place to eat. We will definitely come again - perhaps this time we will pay attention to the signs!
Charming location. Great service. Wonderful food with distinct flavors, excellent presentation and many options. Full bar and wine list. Not noisy. Good parking. Highly Recommend.
Booked a last min table for a birthday celebration. Food was absolutely lovely and the prices were reasonable for what you got portion wise. We had two starters, a child’s meal 2 main meals and a bottle of wine and it came to £85- ignore the other reviews about being over priced ! Would deffo recommend ! 10/10 thank you
The worst chippy I’ve been to, microwaved pies, dry chips and peas look like they had been regurgitated. Never going again. If I could give zero I would.
