Stiles of Ambleside in South Lakeland

The place itself is situated in a nice area and staff are nice. However the food was expensive and not of a good quality. I ordered the BBQ chicken panini and also a steak panini. The bread was not traditionally what you would expect of a panini it was more a soft white baguette and wasn’t very toasted. The chicken was clearly pre-cooked chicken, the bbq sauce tasted like something out of a bottle that had been squirted on and the steak was obviously some sort of sandwich steaks (cheapest you can buy) which was chewy and bland. There wasn’t much to the panini’s a few bits of each topping at most. The food also took around 15 - 20 minutes to arrive which was a bit crazy to say the quality of the food and how there were only around 6 other customers when we ordered.

Friendly, very dog friendly. Dog had a Cumberland sausage and kept trying to go back in every time we walked by. Food is good - same prices as everywhere else. Relaxed atmosphere. Pancakes very tasty. All fried breakfasts similar price. No vegetarian breakfast without fake meat products so same price if you don’t eat them.

As always we have lunch on arrival and breakfast on our last day. The staff are absolutely lovely, very friendly and polite. Food as always is good, they do a mean jacket potato. Husband usually has both big breakfast and American breakfast (one on each visit). Can be busy but worth it.

Came across Stiles on the walk from Ambleside Pier to the town. The menu is extensive, and, unlike other cafes, it serves breakfast/brunch all day, which is great. Plenty to choose from, breakfasts, brunch, sandwiches, main meals. Plus the bonus of a vegan menu. Deserts and cakes too, and a plentiful list of drinks, coffees, various teas and chais. The staff are lovely and friendly too. Didn’t feel rushed, and the food was superb and plenty of it. Definitely recommend.

Unpretentious but caters well for hungry walkers for lunch and VERY welcoming to dogs. I also notice that children are well catered for with drawing equipment. An extensive menu and a real treat as lots of GF options including CAKE! Staff were welcoming and friendly. It was quite quiet which was good for us but a shame for the business. I guess it was getting towards the end of the season, they were not on the main throughfare and from a distance they could look like a DIY store (as the frontage doesn't really shout cafe). Would highly recommend.

Visited twice for breakfast on a recent visit to the Lakes. Large selection of food and drinks. Quick and friendly service. Food was really good too.

Great cafe if you are looking for English breakfast. Great price for this area as well. Even wide selection for vegetarians and vegans. Fully recommend.

We visit the lakes at least 4 times a year. It is always an absolute pleasure to go Stiles. The great quality food is always cooked to perfection, the staff are always friendly (even when they are really busy) and they are so dog friendly. They even have towels at the door for you to dry them if it’s wet. This visit we’ve decided it’s our absolute favourite and we’re not ‘trying’ anywhere else again in Ambleside, no where else compares and we are never disappointed.

The perfect bed and breakfast stay. Location brilliant, staff helpful and friendly. Our room was so comfortable and quiet filled with lots of extra treats to make our stay special. The breakfast was from the excellent cafe menu and was more than we could eat, but we tried. Coffee gets a special mention, didn’t have time to try everything available but we will be back. Thank you.

Hot chocolate and tea were exceptional. On the bacon butty front I found the bacon to be quite tough, and would’ve preferred butter rather than thick margarine

A thrice of balds. Pre hike. Sustenance visit. Good coffee. Good tea. Handsome full english and quality scrambled eggs. Lovely service.

Atmosphere was so relaxing, nice background music. Had a breakfast, everything was cooked to perfection, best I have had in a long time. Service was very attentive and efficient. Just a lovely experience. Thank you to all .

Stopped off for a breakfast 23 Feb. Best breakfast in Ambleside … great food, great value and fab service. Forget the expensive cafes where you have to wait in line. The (breakfast) food here is superb and the coffee top end… I’ll be back !

We visited Stiles on the recommendation of a family member, glad we did as it is first class. We ordered a pot of tea and a latte, a bacon, chicken and mayo roll and a bacon and brie panini, also some cheeseburger loaded fries. We were also going to order some chips, but the waitress pointed out that the roll and panini came with a few chips, so we probably wouldn’t need them, which was good of her. The latte was probably the best we’ve had, and the tea was loose leaf and great quality. The food was excellent, all great quality produce, no thin cheap bacon to be seen. It was all lovely and hot too. We also enjoyed the impromptu karaoke singing from the guy sat with his little son, he made us smile, well done to you. Please, please pay a visit to this happy, welcoming establishment and support a local business instead of a chain restaurant. All the staff were great. It’s also dog friendly too, which is a big bonus. 5 stars all round, thank you

Lovely cafe right in a great spot in Ambleside between the town and waterside. Traditional breakfast was absolutely lovely, service was brilliant and the coffee was delicious. Would recommend popping in in the morning before a hike like we did.

Popped in after a very cold river crossing. The latte was amazing - one of the best I’ve had and my husband commented his tea was lovely (as was the millionaire shortbread). Really warm inside with plenty of seating.

Stiles has always been and is a nice cafe in the heart of Ambleside. Accommodating for locals and tourists and the food is always good.

It was fairly busy but not full. Shown to a table soon as we arrived. Great. However we then waited for 20 mins for someone to take our order. In the end we just left and walked up the road to the next coffee shop where service was a lot better.

We hadn't realised Stiles was dog-friendly until we popped in and checked. It always gave of more of a kids' cafe vibe too but we had some lovely soup and bread here recently - interesting choice of soups and lovely bread with it.

2nd time we have been here but this time we Breakfast and one gluten Free breakfast and two coffees. Was perfect table service will be back again

This little GEM of a place is AMBLESIDE is a must, the staff are welcoming and friendly and the place has a nice warm homely feel. Party of 6 stopped for coffee and cake and we were not disappointed, the coffees especially the Latte's are lovely and well the cakes are a definite must if you visit. The Carrot Cake and Lemon Drizzle Cake are a must, never tasted such amazingly tasty and moreish cakes, 4 days of visiting the lakes this place for me was the best by far for coffee and cake, thank you for making us all feel welcome and especially fuelling us with coffee and cake for our walks.

Called in for a snack lunch and were completely taken back with the quality of the food and the service that we received. The young girl that served us couldn't have been more helpful if she tried. Well done to all concerned.

Terrible, worst tearoom ever, waited 15 minutes for or order to be taken, when the girl brought it she couldn’t tell us what was what, her answer was they are both the same,which they were not, never smiled once, also when she our glasses were brought to the table her fingers were inside them😡

Service lets the place down with little enthusiasm shown by the team. Food ok, coffee good but plenty better options in town.

Visited on a Sunday at 11am, it wasn't particularly busy. Sign on the door told us to wait to be seated. Wait staff at the back of the cafe told us to sit anywhere. They brought menus quickly, but had to be waived over (after we'd waited 10 mins) to take our order. The staff didn't seem particularly busy, just slow and inattentive. The food came 10 mins later, this was before our drinks, which I had to prompt them for. The coffee and fresh orange juice was nice. We each had a sausage butty, I chose veggie, which turned out to be mashed potato with carrots and sweetcorn in bread casing, sort of like a fish finger. I was beyond disappointed, I'd expected a quorn style sausage or something made of some sort of protein. We waited again and no wait staff ever came back to the table to clear plates or offer the bill, so eventually I went up to the counter to pay. Overall terrible service and disappointing food. I wish we'd gone somewhere else.

Food and drinks are good but the staff hygiene leaves little to be desired. One member in particular who didn’t really seem like she wanted to be working there, had a scruffy sweatshirt with frayed cuffs that were dangling in our drinks. She didn’t seem to want to serve either.

We love it here, children well catered for ! Meals reasonably priced and down to earth ! This is a cafe how it should be and how it used to be.

Just had a really lovely American breakfast x2 in Stiles. The atmosphere and service was very plesent. The staff member serving us was excellent and very attentive to our two dogs. Even bringing them treats.

Fantastic breakfast on a rainy day in Ambleside. Great choices for all on the menu. Dog friendly. Partner enjoyed his grilled vegetables with his vegan breakfast, I enjoyed the veggie black pudding - something I've never had before! Gluten free options too which was great. Very good value for a touristy area! Would recommend.

Good start when we arrived there in the rain with our dog and found towels to dry dogs with in their entrance porch. Brilliant. Dog appreciated it. Thank you. Very full, just after miday on a very wet Wednesday. Lots of people of all ages plus their dogs. Just managed to find a table for two. After a couple of bad experiences in cafes on this this trip to the Lakes - see my review on Joey's at Wray Castle - it was so good to find a place that served 'real' food and was welcoming while doing so. Friendly and very busy waitress took our order and our food was delivered in due course by another smiling server. Good strong tea with real milk, a cumberland sausage bap and a bacon bap, both freshly cooked and very tasty. They have a vegan menu which looked pretty appetising too. Baked potatoes, Nachos, pancakes, crumpets and more. Only one problem. I was too full for one of their Ice Cream Sundaes. Excellent, Stiles. This is how a cafe should be.

Menu was great mrs had the pancakes and I had the stiles breakfast both really nice and good food for money would recommend and next time we back we will be back in 👍 staff where really nice

I had a very generously sized vegan brunch - the menu has both non-vegan and vegan options, and is very dog friendly. Lovely staff. I would visit again. Very varied and innovative hot drinks menu.

Well done understanding Gluten Free without fuss, nicely presented food and good coffee. You need to speak with some of the other eating establishments in Ambleside and tell them how to do it.

Visited Ambleside for the day so used trip advisor to find somewhere to eat. We weren’t let down. Nice cafe, clean, nicely busy without feeling cramped, quick service and nice food. Nothing not to like.
