Came here for quick family breakfast before heading into Windermere. Waited over 30 minutes for 2 meals to arrive. Breakfast wrap looked like it had been dropped and was minus the hash brown and the additional black pudding, no butter with the toast for large breakfast and then when asked only 1 portion delivered for 4 bits of toast!. Dirty cup brought for the coffee. It wasn’t busy when we arrived but we definitely won’t be coming back again.

Hard to know what to say! I didn't dislike it, nor was it particularly good. It certainly isn't a hotel. I'm not even sure its an Inn. More a pub with rooms really. The room was OK, but tired and in need of a little TLC. The mattress (King on two single beds) was pretty hollow on one side so probably needs replacing. On evening one I'd prebooked the evening meal online which incurred a £10 booking charge. I'd assumed this would be deducted from the bill but it wasn't. If you go here, book by phone or on the night - don't do it online. That same evening my partner wanted an Irish coffee. The young man behind the bar said he didn't know how to do it and couldn't float cream. In any case he said he had just cleaned down the coffee machine for the day, so it couldn't be used. It was just 8pm!! Evening 2 was even more odd. Just the one man (manager I guess) was doing everything. As a result queues formed with one couple waiting over 30 minutes just to check in! A few others gave up waiting to order drinks etc and simply left. When we went up to our room, we found there was no hot water - no heating either. The boiler had broken down, so it was a case of boiling kettles to wash. I went down to let him know then overheard him saying to someone else that guests were complaining there was no hot water but he was too busy to be able to do anything about it. It was still out of use in the morning so again kettles and no shower or bath. They gave everyone a complimentary breakfast by way of a sorry. It was back in order for that evening. There's a board in the dining area showing the local produce that they use. There was a local vodka which I thought I might try - none available. Best take that board down then eh? As I say - this place has a whole lot going for it. It just doesn't get close to meeting it's potential, which is a real shame.

Popped in for breakfast when on a day trip to Ambleside. We had a small breakfast and a bacon & sausage roll with a pot of tea and a latte. The food was good, as were the drinks. Staff very friendly and dog friendly. The price was high really, £24 for the above but it is the same all over.

Had the privilege of staying in this beautiful village overnight with the idea of climbing whernside. The pub itself is quaint with rustic Yorkshire Charm, very friendly staff and reasonably priced. The hotel room was beautifully laid out with a stunning view of the scenery and complimentary toiletries. Book room number 5 for the very spacious ensuite. The fittings although dated fitted perfectly with the location and the breakfast was beautiful with a very attentive member of staff! My recommendations would be forget civilisation, enjoy spending time with loved ones and savour every second in such a beautiful little village! Can't wait for my next stay and hopefully manage to climb whernside!

Terrible service, waited 15 minutes to actually be acknowledged at the sign that said "Wait Here to be Seated" no apology for having to wait, then shown to a table and we sat waiting for another 20 mins and nobody came to the table to take our drink or food order so we stood up and left, as we were leaving the couple opposite said they had been waiting for 30 mins for their order and were considering doing the same as us! This place needs proper management

A smart little country gastropub. Nicely decorated with efficient friendly service. We had two sandwiches for lunch with a bowl of chips. The sarnies were really tasty and well presented. I'm afraid the chips were less good, some being quite hard. That didn't detract from a lovely lunch. Recommended for travellers on your way up to the Lakes.

New Dungeon Ghyll probably has much more to offer than just a cold, good beer, but for me it was just the place I arrived at, after an intense day of hiking in the mountains. A pint of beer, slowly sipped at a table outside the restaurant, tasted delicious!

£17 for a bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich and 2 teas ! Waited 30 mins for the order and watched serving staff clean the bristles of a floor brush behind the bar. When asked where my order was I was told "oops sorry I forgot it"! When the sandwiches arrived they were awful, overcooked, tasteless and tired.

Delicious food and great service - we had a number of dietary requirements (dairy allergy and coeliac) and the team couldn’t do enough for us, checking details with the kitchen and giving us a lovely lunch. They clearly take a lot of care with their food prep - a great local cafe

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.
