No volveremos a comer allí

Popped in for breakfast this morning. The only breakfast items available were either sausage or bacon baps. Both my husband and I ordered the sausage. I think it was the worst sausage sandwich I have ever had. The sausages tasted like they had been microwaved then deep fried! They were very greasy and the skin was chewy not crispy. The coffee was also poor and took about 10mins to make. Very disappointed.

I understand it’s winter season and cafes and shops in Hawkshead are quite but it’s no excuse for both members of staff to sit and eat lunch at 1pm in the afternoon while customers are waiting. A young member of the team served us at the till and made the drinks, training is highly recommend in your staff. If naturally Hawkshead intend to charge there customers £3.25 for a flat white please ensure your staff are trained. I myself are barista trained and work in hospitality and can understand the pressure of making a flat white but I had to ask for it to be remade 3 times. In the end I poured my own milk in. As a resident in the village I won’t be coming back!

Had a very good experience at the cafe today when I stopped on my lunch break. I had the bacon sandwich which was okay but still very nice. However it was the coffee that sold me. I had a cappuccino and it was amazing. Best I’ve had in a long time. The staff were also really helpful and friendly Especially the young waitress holly who went far out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed etc and that I had a good experience. It seemed to have a "whatever" attitude when we visited. Service was OK but a bit haphazard, the Cumberland sausage in the bap was good - once it arrived. Plenty of tea in the pots but we needed to ask for a refill of milk twice to match it. If you have time maybe there's another cafe to try in the town.

No option to park for half an hour which is all we needed. We went somewhere else and so did several others in the space of a few minutes. We had the premium steak burgers (the chicken burgers had sold out) and I was asked if I wanted bacon and cheese on them to which I said yes, thinking it was included. I later saw that these were an extra 75p each making the burger £9.45. I thought this was expensive for an average burger with salad (no chips) particularly as you had to queue to place your order. This Café is part of the Hawkshead outdoor clothing shop and specialises on using local produce (some of which we did not sample as that includes the ice-cream and bakery products that we try to avoid). The menu is not that extensive but the light bites do include soups, cold sandwiches, bacon or sausage baps and jacket potatoes with one or two hot specials each day. We remember from a previous visit that the soup and a roll were good value and tasty (with a choice of two soups on offer) but this time we all choose the Pasties and asked for a salad and coleslaw garnish. Certainly tasty and reasonable value. We had arrived towards the end of service and took the last pasties on offer. So, they had been sitting for a while on the hot plate and the pastry bases were a little tough to cut. That was more a function of our timing rather than the quality of the pasties. We have eaten there before and will probable eat there again.

The Bluebird (see earlier review) this isn't. Sadly it represents the other end of the scale, captive market = sorry service and food. (As seen so often with motorway services). It's a Saturday afternoon, low season, yet despite a huddle of staff and only a trickle of customers, the empty tables are piled high with old plates and cutlery and no sign of anyone collecting them. It's not unpleasant as a place, nineties modern, but somehow it feels like any enthusiasm has drained from it. A few leftover cakes on the counter (it's two o'clock, not 4.30) (again compare with Bluebird), filthy toilets (why??, this is Hawkshead not Euston Station) but summing it more than anything is the tea. Three cups, three tea pots. Surely one is decent. Nope. It takes a rare art to brew up something with absolutely no taste. To do it three times is astonishing. Flavourless, devoid of any taste, and served with equally insipid interest. It doesn't take much, clean loos, a nod towards service, and a passable brew (and yes we did leave time for it to infuse). Whatevers, sigh, why bother, kinda sums it all up,

The food was excellent but I was slightly disappointed by the milkshake - there was nothing wrong with the shake itself but I felt at £2.95 it should have been bigger and/or better? Where they really excelled was when we discovered a freak issue with my Mum's lunch. The response was immediate, excellent & much appreciated.

The atmosphere is rather lacking as it really a café within an outdoor clothing store, so sort of what you'd expect.... but one Wednesday at about tea time in the pouring rain... everywhere else in Hawkshead seemed to be closed so this place saved the day! And they also sell popcorn for dogs which is apparently a thing!

Hawkshead is quite an expensive village to eat. Naturally Hawkshead Cafe is more reasonably priced. Friendly, efficient staff and food of a reasonable quality. Did not try any of the large variety of cakes but they looked great, including gluten free options.

Next to the car park this is a great coffee stop. The selection of home made cakes and pastries are not for skimmers really excellent. This place is also dog friendly.

After a long walk we decided to have lunch at this café. We had sandwiches on ciabatta bread and thought that they were very nice. Food and drink prices here are typical for the area. Service was fine. Recommended.

Stopped off for lunch here after cycling from kendal. Plenty of spaces to sit inside and outside. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful and there was plenty of choice on the menu. I would definitely come here again.....big thumbs up.

Most of the 'tea-rooms' here are a rip off. This one wasn't too bad but nothing to rave about. Half-decent shop to look around attached.

The area of the cafe is nothing special but very convenient when shopping. Have not had food here but the teas and coffees were good.

The only place open early one Sunday morning when we were out with the kids. Had cake and coffee (the kids had juice, obviously). Hit the spot, tasty enough. Glad it was open!

Had lunch here today with my husband. Ordered him a burger with salad and a homemade quiche and salad for myself, a cup of tea and a glass of water. When the meals came they were both very disappointing with a burger that looked very sad, both salads were poor with little imagination and mainly consisting of lettuce but my quiche was microwaved so much that a portion of it was too solid to even cut with my knife. Talking of cutlery, I had to go and ask for our cutlery as we didn't get any when our meals were brought to us. When we had nearly finished eating I had to again get up and go ask for our drinks that we had ordered. All through the meal one of the staff was standing behind the counter watching the tables but had failed to notice we had not been served our drinks. At £6.95 per meal I wouldn't have expected a large meal but I would have liked our meals cooked properly and not microwaved and with very few customers in the cafe I would have liked a little better attention from the staff serving. I will not be returning. One last point, whilst I was waiting to be served behind two cyclists and a couple with their little boy, a lady came past with her mum in a wheel chair and was trying with difficulty to get to the toilet, neither of the staff offered to open the door for them to go through so I came out of the queue and helped them through. I should have realised at that point that we weren't going to get a good service

We dropped in here straight off the bus after a long journey up from the South East. Only a few others around so we did not experience any of the issues mentioned regarding slow service. We were served with a smile and able to find something for everyone (including one member of the party who is Gluten Free). Food was tasty and service prompt. Large number of tables available and clean and bright. Would recommend for reasonably priced lunch or just a cuppa and slice of cake! Good to find some places still open low season this close to Christmas.

On our recent visit to Hawkshead on a walking holiday, we paid two visits to 'Naturally Hawkshead' on the same day. It is attached to the large clothing store there, but feels separate enough to make it an enjoyable place to visit. On the first visit we had breakfast there. I had a full Cumbrian cooked breakfast, and it was excellent. Everything was well cooked, and it was good value for money. The only negative was that the skin on the sausages was a bit thick for my tastes, but that is just a minor quibble. The tea was also very good. After a good walk around the surrounding countryside, we called in again before heading off. We had another excellent cuppa, and shared a nice slice of rocky road cake. The range of home-made cakes here is really good. The young staff were eager to help and very friendly on what were two good visits. Hawkshead is not overrun with good cafes, but we found this one to be excellent. Highly recommended, and we would definitely call in again.

It was a freezing November day. My wife, our dog and myself decided to drop in for a coffee and cake to warm up. As soon as we entered, we were asked if our dog wanted a bowl of water by a friendly waitress. The food and hot drinks were fine, and our dog enjoyed her dog treat. We will be back.

Great ice cream.... however staff are very slow and never look happy. They seem to just stand about and talk between themselves. We waited once 20 minutes for somebody to serve us. Think the staff need a talking to as this is no good for a place that gets busy. If there was somewhere else for ice cream Id go there bit there isnt so we hacked it out. Most of the time the place is clean which i must point out.

The wait for food was incredibly long, with only one person serving and it wasn't even busy. It was expensive for what you got and I wouldn't recommend.

A group of 12 called in for a coffee after a walk. There was one young lady serving who coped as well as she could. Another person, who had been behind the counter went off for a break instead of helping for a few minutes. Some people visited the toilet and said it was dirty and no toilet paper. Service not good enough. This shop appears to rely on it's other sections, i.e. Outdoor gear etc to be bothered with this small cafe. Won't be going for a coffee again

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
