Always love calling in here for battered haggis. Great service and delish food and if you don't want to eat in, there is a beautiful park just down the road to sit and enjoy the views of the mountains while you munch away 👍

Placed order for 3 people, portion of chips not on receipt, managed to spot in time; another £4.25 added. Gutted when got home to curry sauce missing(£1.75). Price high but not for tourist spot. Although I live in HK, I do enjoy quite a variety of fish and chips as I got a specialty shop right downstairs (and I hope this support the rest of my comments) The shop doesn't look cool. It was a small shop. But the smell was great, there was no oily feel nor smell, despite an open kitchen design. That's why I immediately start my order. We had fishes, black pudding and onion rings. The fish is awesome, no oily and heavy covering. My wife is very sensitive to oily thing but she immediately accept the whole fish. The fish is freshly made and this is also a bonus point. The onion rings surprised us, it is at the right point of camarelized. The portion of black pudding is superb, if you like it, you should get my combo. I recommend anyone to try this. I read comments saying the dishes are overpriced. But I surely get a full tummy after spending 24 pounds here.

We thought you couldn't go wrong with this offer. The shop looked a bit old, but that's not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to greasy food. I found the fish for €9 a bit expensive but it can be a good portion. The cheeseburger for €5 is okay. Yes, we were way wrong! That was the smallest portion of fish I saw in 2 weeks of vacation and for €9 it was an absolute disgrace. The burger for €5 originally turned out and tasted exactly the same as the one from the refrigerated section at Lidl. I looked at it the other day and there were 2 pieces for €4 and they looked absolutely identical. The fries were actually okay, really surprised me. They weren't outstanding, but compared to the burger they were top class (but they weren't heavy either) The burger didn't even bother to add fresh sauce or some lettuce. There was only the sauce that is added directly during production and can soak into the bun for a long time while the burger is in the refrigerator.

Uurrgghhh Only went because the only other fish n chip shop in Ambleside was - unbelievably- closed at lunchtime. This place looked awful, was like something out of the early 80s Eastern Bloc and the food was expensive (over £13 for fish n chips x 1) The thinnest, tiniest bit of fish in greasy batter and hard, chewy chips. I saw the guy ‘making’ a burger and it was truly one of the most vile things I’ve seen in food prep. I felt dirty after eating it and well and truly ripped off.

We visited this fish and chip bar and ordered a children's portion of fish and chips for our little one. The portion size was reasonable, and the fish was freshly cooked, which we appreciated. The chips were acceptable—nothing spectacular, but they did the job. Overall, it wasn't the worst we've had, but there's definitely room for improvement. One thing to note is that the prices are comparable to higher-quality restaurants in the area, so we expected a bit more for the cost. Still, for a quick and casual meal, it hit the spot.

I’ve never been to prison, but I imagine the food there surpasses what my friends were served here. I luckily avoided this place, but my two friends that I was with had the misfortune of venturing inside. One of my friends asked for a chicken and mushroom pie. They said they didn’t have any. He then asked for a meat and potato instead. They said he didn’t have any of those either. He then asked what pies they actually did have. They said steak and ale. So he ordered a steak and ale, and then (no surprises) was told they didn’t have any of those either. With a lack of options, he went for the chicken burger as a last resort. He was served what looked like a microwaved farmfoods frozen chicken patty in a bap with soggy chips. Next up: friend 2. After a 30 minute wait (not an exaggeration, if anything an underestimate), my friend was served his portion of fish, chips and peas. Chips were soggy, fish was greasy and overcooked, peas were the same consistency as setting concrete. Whilst this was happening, 3 of the senior staff members were stood staring at us, as if it was a major inconvenience that we ordered fish and chips in a fish and chips shop. Hilariously bad. I would come again, but not with anyone I like.

A really nice fish and chip shop. Basic menu but everything cooked well. Fish wasn’t dry, portions were good. Would definitely be my favourite choppy if I was a local!

Avoid and don’t waste your money! Popped in for a couple of pies one cheese and onion the other meat and potato. The worst cold pies that I have experienced, cold , burnt pastry, full of under cooked potatoes. Went straight in the bin! What a waste of £6😡

Way too slow - expect a thirty minute wait, food is passable, portions small. Not good value for money - expect them not to listen about if you want salt and vinegar! Avoid.

I think they must be aiming at being the Slowest fish and chip shop in the world. Who knows what would happen if they got busy

We found this by accident after parking up and walking through the parky. Locals and tourists using this chippy, which is always a good sign, when you see locals eat there. Clean and bright inside, with a couple of tables to sit at, or take out and enjoy the sunshine. Lovely fresh cooked chips, not too greasy, friendly staff, brilliant menu choice and a good price.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
