Rude staff was very blunt when we were nice. Don’t understand what the attitude was all about but sure

Excellent bakery in Ambleside, always pay a visit on our trips to the area. Impeccably perfect food, pies and sandwiches are truly delicious, great for taking on walks. They are very willing to edit sandwiches to your acquired tastes; in other words, great for kids! Staff are very friendly too. We always buy our sandwiches from here as it is good to support a wonderful independent business like this instead of a chain store. Also, francene224 you must to have been to a different bakery as we have been loads of times and always thoroughly enjoyed our food, it is full of seasoning and flavour, and it is not overpriced - it is not a chain store but a local business for god's sake! Also, how could you write something so cruel and personal about one of the members of staff, you are never to old to bake good food!

Stopped here for sandwiches ahead of a hike around the Fairfield Horseshoe. Guy behind the counter was friendly. Sandwiches made to order, and tasty! Good value. Usual cakes and crisps available too. Recommended to buy your sandwich here and support a local business, rather than buy at a supermarket. A Ham Salad roll is around £2.20 to give an idea.

We have called in here a few times on our visits to Ambleside. Always nice pies, bread and bakery items. The cheese and onion pie was delicious and my husband said the meat and potato pie was just as good. They were piping hot when we got them and didn't eat them for a good couple of hours and they were still warm. Very friendly staff, striking up a good old weather conversation when we went in (complaining about the rain). We will be back

Lovely fresh bread - awesome texture! We also bought a Chelsea bun and an iced bun - both were perfect, thoroughly satisfied. The lady behind the counter was friendly and chatty :) I'd always rather support a local bakery than go to a chain too.

Lovely fresh bread, i am a frequent visitor and wouldn't want anything this place has to offer. Lovely service and reasonably priced too. Meat and potato pie is my recommendation.

Ordered sausage rolls & a meat & potato pies, asked for hot but came very cold in the middle. Both items were tasteless, even teenage son & dog who eat anything & everything turned their noses up, definitely won't be returning

Visited Peggy's bakery for a quick snack on route back to Bowness-on-Windermere and wished we hadn't bothered. Hot items purchased were a meat pie, pork pie and cheese and onion pasty. The meat in the supposed different pies was identical, grey coloured, dry and absent of seasoning, the pastry was rank and tasted of cardboard. The pasty was made with some kind of potato puree, lacked flavour and seasoning. Cakes were no better, the pastry base on my current slice tasted revolting, ended up feeding most of it to the birds in the park across the road from Peggy's. With 2 drinks purchased from the shop also this all came to over £7, total rip off and a disappointing waste of money for poor quality food, can't understand the great reviews, the elderly lady behind the counter (Peggy)? was nice enough but seriously I think it may be time to hang up your oven gloves.

We have been going to Peggy's for years now. The breakfast buns are outstanding. The sausage and egg will keep you going all day. We had two ham salad rolls today and again they were very filling, fresh buns and real cut ham. Excellent value too. A must visit, old fashioned bakers in the great village of Ambleside.

We visited Peggy's Bakery near to the recreation ground in Ambleside this week. It was about 1300 hours and stock was limited. We had two beef and two pork pies. We were unsure which pies were in which bag so took the lid off one of them to tell. The meat ( if that's what you can call it) was grey and only filled approx 50% of the pie case. We all ate about half of the pies and gave up. No taste, bland and totally disgusting. We tried to give them to our dog who is called Dyson as she vacuums everything. Even she declined to eat it. A first! Very poor. I would prefer to support independent businesses but we then went to Greggs and had much better food from there!

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
