£17 for a bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich and 2 teas ! Waited 30 mins for the order and watched serving staff clean the bristles of a floor brush behind the bar. When asked where my order was I was told "oops sorry I forgot it"! When the sandwiches arrived they were awful, overcooked, tasteless and tired.

The view is the best element of the cafe. Having been to The Bluebird Cafe at Coniston the day before which was superb (I presumed they were connected) we found the Bowness one lacking in ambience and more like a greasy spoon but expensive. The waitress/chef was friendly enoigh and to be fair seemed to be the only member of staff, but we ate out of cardboard containers with plastic cutlery that wouldn't have cut through butter. The bacon was thick and a bit too fatty and the bread of my toastie was burnt. Our cappuccinos were tasteless and searingly tongue burningly hot. There was no finesse to it and £8 for a toastie with no garnish or actual crockery and cutlery is daylight robbery. It was dog friendly which was a plus.

While staying in Bowness we visited this cafe twice, first time to have a coffee and second time for lunch. They have a good selection of sandwiches (made to order), toasted sandwiches, baked potatoes, cakes and biscuits. Also Hot and cold drinks. The staff are very efficient and pleasant and appear to enjoy their work which makes for a good atmosphere.

Delicious toasties and smoothies. We visited in peak lunch time and were very impressed with how efficient the service was- especially given there is only two members of staff. Stopped off here on a quick visit to Bowness and needed a cuppa and a snack. Toasties are delicious with generous fillings and good quality ingredients. It would be so easy to charge more and provide cheap ingredients to maximise profit in this location! So it was refreshing and a lovely surprise to find such yummy sandwiches and drinks. The woman serving was on her own and it got very busy but she coped brilliantly keeping a smile on her face! (We visited on 17/3) The gift shop is worth a browse around too and the cakes looked great! Location perfect for lakeside shops and boat trips. Highly recommend

A simple and basic cafe with simple offerings. Cosy place to take a breather before continuing the walk around the lake or town. Service is friendly - the staff are full of smiles and pleasant to communicate with. Food offerings are simple. I would not say it's overpriced given the current inflation. Place does fill up fast especially on weekends. The hot chocolate is pretty good!

We visited yesterday and ordered two toasted sandwiches and two coffees. The order came to just under £18 and for this price we expected a little more than what was served. For the price you would expect some type of garnish / side salad but there was nothing. The coffee came in takeaway cups even though we were sitting in the Cafe. For £18 we could have bought 10 loaves of bread, tomatoes, extra mature cheese and a small jar of coffee from Aldi. What a complete rip off. I said to the Wife that the Cafe was empty and the prices and quality are probably the reason for this. The Staff were polite and friendly and it's probably not their fault. Would highly recommend not bothering with this place.

In good spirits we headed to the Bluebird Cafe to grab a quick coffee and enjoy the view whilst we waited for the ferry to arrive. When arriving in the cafe we were met with sour faces and by far the worst customer service we have ever experienced! Without so much as a hello, a smile or any eye contact whatsoever we ordered our drinks. We would not have felt more unwelcome. Once the drinks were ready they were thrown at us with such force that the coffee spilt on the side of the counter. No apology was given, not even an acknowledgement. Today, though, I was appalled at the attitude of the serving person. I pointed out that the milk flask was empty. Was told to tip it right up. Doing that dumped the dregs of the milk spoiling the tea. She removed the top of the flask to show me “See there is milk in the bottom!” But refused to top it up. I am a regular customer of the Bluebird cafe at Coniston. The food is fabulous there as is the service. I am afraid the same cannot be said of the Bluebird on the Bay cafe. Don't even bother with the cappuccino - it was the worst coffee I have ever had. Just lots of warm milk that vaguely tasted of coffee. The cafe was relatively quiet when we visited but our drinks took an eternity to be served. The staff didn't appear to be serving anyone else but we were told to take a seat and wait - which we did. When our drinks eventually arrived they were just plonked on the counter. It would have been just as easy to put them on our table but this wasn't done despite the wait. The drinks were also served in paper cups which you don't expect considering their cost. Lovely location but terrible product and service - avoid!

Looking for somewhere to enjoy a nice breakfast before our 10.10 Red Cruise yesterday to our disappointment none of the cafes near the pier were open when we arrived at 8.30 after a 150 mile drive. Walking back unsuccessfully and hungry at 9.10 we noticed all the lights were on, the cafe sign was outside and the "Come In We Are Open" sign was on the open door. We walked in and were greeted warmly by the young gentleman only to be told very abruptly by a rude young girl that they did not open until 9.30, needless to say we did not return and guided by a helpful chap working on the boots found our way in to the town to a bar serving breakfast and a warm welcome!

Visited this cafe today as it looked nice and has beautiful views of Lake Windermere. The cafe is small but well appointed - everything looked new and clean and as it was quiet, we had a table by the window. The food was freshly prepared and we enjoyed our toastie and soup which was served by a pleasant lady. We didn't like the use of paper cups and plates - what a waste of resources! Judging by the number of full black bin bags going out of the door near us, there's a lot of waste! The problem I faced today was the incredible rudeness of the staff member who served me when I went back to ask for a slice of cake. The prices of the cakes weren't displayed and on asking how much the victoria sponge was, i was told that the prices were on the laminated list which was down the side of the cake display on the staff side of the counter. The list was thrust at me but in spite of her attitude, I asked for the cake and sat down a few feet away. When it was ready, she shouted "victoria sponge!" and I went to retrieve it - it was in a flimsy cardboard holder. On asking where it was, it was pushed towards me across the counter without a word. The cafe isn't cheap, but I was prepared to pay the prices (just) but I don't expect to be served by a frowning, rude individual who clearly didn't want to be there and couldn't care less what experience people had. The shop wan't busy, there were two staff on and it was midday. I have rarely felt so affected by someone's attitude in an environment like this, and it completely spoilt the experience. I understand that the person in question is the daughter of the owner of the Bluebird cafe in Coniston. She needs to buck her ideas up.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
