Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

Tristemente no.

I’m not sure if the other reviewers were at the same restaurant we went to as it was an amazing night that we all thoroughly enjoyed! The staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful, our waiter Zoltan was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met! He tried his best to make sure we enjoyed our meal and laughed after every sentence (which was refreshing) and offered to take a photo of us for my grans Birthday meal. The food was delicious and the buffet was very good quality however the roasties were a bit dry but I assume that’s because they had been under a harsh light and out for an hour before we arrived. The brownie was gooey and chocolatey but the sauce was a bit rich... The decor was a bit dated in the bar however the Garden Room was relatively modern! We received our desserts in the same price as our carvery, which was an added bonus to a wonderful night!

We were staying at the Swan Hotel but decided to go to the Newby Bridge for dinner because (according to the website) it was a bit cheaper. However, once we sat down we were told that the set menu no longer existed and that the menu on the Newby Bridge website was substantially out of date. When we arrived and asked for a table, the restaurant was mostly empty. But the waiter asked "are you residents?" and pulled a face when we said no. We tried to crack jokes and smile but the service was cold, apathetic and passive aggressive at best. The service was frosty and cold throughout and by the end of the meal we were sat waiting for the bill for over half an hour after all the other dinners had gone home. We were desperately trying to make eye contact with the waiter but he was determined to ignore us while setting other tables for breakfast the next day. It was like we were in a very weird and tired episode of Faulty Towers, except that it was real life, it wasn't funny, and we had to pay quite a lot for the privaledge.

No prior warning !!! Very poor customer service - zero / 10. Hence the fact we walked over the road for a fabulous meal at the Swann Hotel !!! Suggestion to "ALL" thinking of booking a meal or a room at the Newby Bridge Hotel. Check out the Swann, great deals on rooms and food mid week. Also the Swann makes the Newby Bridge look even more tired than it actual is.

Visited the eve before my mother’s birthday. Arrived half an hour early after we were told the wrong time to arrive. We were then seated reluctantly by the very rude staf in the restaurant that seemed annoyed that they had told us the wrong time to get there in the first place. We were seated at half past seven and waited almost 20 minutes just to ask what we wanted to drink! We were then told we couldn’t even order yet because there weren’t enough menus to go around, even though he restaurant wasn’t even half full. When we ordered starters the waiter began to get frustrated once more simply because we asked for peas on one of the meals instead of beans. We then waited until 20 past 8 to actually receive our meal. The restaurant was also dirty with the floor clearly not being cleaned since it’s been there and litter that hadn’t even been bothered to be picked up or had been simply pushed to the side all along the skirtingboards. We also weren’t the only ones upset by the place as two other couples got up and left before they even received their meals. The only positive was that the food was to a good standard and with all else said the meal was enjoyed.

The starter was not quite right for them but the main course provided was just what they were looking for. The rest of us had a really enjoyable meal too with a nice selection of dishes and a reasonable choice of wines. Would recommend this option is staying at the restaurant.

Since 2008 when we stayed at the Newby Bridge for our honeymoon, we have returned at least once a year just to have a beautiful á la carte dinner in the garden restaurant. Why did we return every year, simple, the food was outstanding. If you wanted pie, scampi, steak etc you ate in the bar. If you wanted lamb cooked to perfection for instance you ate in the restaurant. The restaurant menu now is basically the same as the bar menu only a couple of quid more expensive. Tonight we thought we would try the burger and chips thinking it would be hand made, not a slab of brown whatever that could be bought in any cash and carry accompanied with frozen chips. The receptionist said they had changed the menu to keep up with the times. Sorry Newby Bridge, you’ve just taken a giant step backwards.

A group of nine friends booked for the Sunday Cavery lunch. The self service buffet offered a really interesting choice of starters and was enjoyed by all. We approached the cavery coumter when there was no queue and the chef was standing waiting, He cut meat for the first member of our party who then found the vegetable and roast potato dishes were empty. There was than a long pause as the chef carving meat disappeared for some minutes to rectify this deficiency. There was then a further wait as the gravy jug was empty. The carvery was good, but what poor organisation. After all the party had finished their main course we waited a long time for a waiter to offer desserts. Eventually we asked a waitress, who was wiping tables, for dessert menus. She went in to the servery and dropped the mop cloth into a bowl on the side counter of the servery, perhaps not the best location. She did not continue to bring menus and when challenged said 'in a minute'. A male waiter did appear two minutes later with menus. Obviously there is no team work it is preferable for guests to wait. A good range of desserts was offered and they were well presented. Food good, service and organisation very poor! Can we hope that hotel management read Tripadvisor?

We visited this hotel for a family Easter meal. The place is quite run down and could do with an upgrade, however my review is mainly on the food and the car parking facilities. It was a Sunday when we visited and the hotel have a carvery on a Sunday, we were told we could also order from the bar menu, but this is extremely limited so the carvery it was to be. As we entered the restaurant I noticed an area with different' salads, it was very open and I was quite amazed that as there were fresh prawns and smoked salmon there didn't seem to be a cooling facility!!!! My husband and had a little of the salad on offer and then went to get our carvery. there were three options of meat Yorkshire puddings, some very over cooked stuffing and two vegetable options, one very over cooked carrots and the second garlic cabbage!!!!! Given that not everyone likes the taste of garlic I found it a strange one. I sat down with my carvery, I have to say the beef was very nice which was the meals only saving grace!!!!!! The restaurant is run a bit like a school canteen, as soon as you put down your knife and fork your plate removed and you were asked if you wanted a dessert, if not staff hovered waiting for you to leave the table!!!! I would suggest that if you want a carvery lunch on a Sunday in the South Lakes drive a little further to Romneys in Kendal, even if you have to wait a while for a table at least you are guarenteed freshly cooked meat and lots of choice of veg. My other big complaint about this hotel is the front car park, if this were a public car park. When it is almost impossible to move cars even small ones, in and out of car parking spaces. The staff when we were there were young and clearly did not know what they were doing and had no managers to guide them. No I will not be visiting again.

I am a local resident and I visit the Newby Bridge Hotel at least twice per week with my husband for our nights out, the locals are lovely and are always up for a chat, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, however, they always seem to be overworked and doing a lot of different roles, there appears to be no night porters and there are female members of staff closing up the bar on a night on their own, which seems a little risky. I have also noticed over the past 3 /4 months people coming into the bar wanting drinks and food to be left waiting for more than ten minutes for staff to appear behind the bar to take their order, getting a little disgruntled and leaving without purchasing anything. I feel this is unfair as it is a very friendly hotel and a really nice place to drink, the rooms are beautiful and it seems a shame that the downstairs of the hotel (front) and bar area are letting the hotel down with leaking ceilings, poor décor and uncomfortable seating, locals are sticking with the hotel and it seems a shame they are not repaid with a little more thought put into where they spend their time and money. Wishful local

I can't believe how nice this meal was. I had brie with cranberry sauce and a lovely dressed salad to start and it was really tasty. My boyfriend had the cumberland sausage hotpot-esque dish and really enjoyed it. I wasn't surprised to find that there was only one veggie option for main courses and was disappointed when I saw veggie lasagne as I don't think i've ever eaten a homemade one in a non-specialist vegetarian restaurant- I always get stuck with a ready meal- but I was over the moon when my lasagne arrived. It was perfectly cooked with an array of vegetables in it. The only criticism was that I could have eaten more than was on my plate! Vegetarian options are often overlooked so I thought it was really great that the chef took the time to make something so tasty, seeing as I was probably the only person to order it all night!

I have given it one star for the pudding - we were a party of 11, £24.95 for a three course meal, I went home hungry, that was a first for me. One of the starters was Caesar salad, it was on an oblong plate at one end there were three little gem lettuce leaves at the other was three very thin tiny strips of chicken, in the middle there were three tiny croutons, don't get me started on the goats cheese mousse, which I can only describe as minuscule. The main course wasn't any better, everything tasted fine, but I have never experienced such small portions. The service left a lot to be desired, we weren't offered any condiments, we did ask for mustard and mint sauce which turned up when everyone had finished, wine was missing and then we were charged for a more expensive bottle, I have stopped at the hotel on a few occasions and found this visit a real let down. I am grateful we were a party of females, because I know if any of our partners had been with us, it would have been an even more negative experience.

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.
