Terrible service, waited 15 minutes to actually be acknowledged at the sign that said "Wait Here to be Seated" no apology for having to wait, then shown to a table and we sat waiting for another 20 mins and nobody came to the table to take our drink or food order so we stood up and left, as we were leaving the couple opposite said they had been waiting for 30 mins for their order and were considering doing the same as us! This place needs proper management

I wanted a baked potato with tuna, the pleasant waitress informed me they’d run out of them. I ordered fish and chips. There was very little fish in the very greasy overdone batter. Not worth £14-95. My friend had the steak panini which was wasn’t very good. When we went to pay we were asked was everything alright, we explained why we hadn’t enjoyed our lunch, no apology, just told how much we owed & enjoy the rest of your day. !!!!!!

Firstly, the menu doesn't show breakfast items so be prepared to choose lunch. Secondly, the only plant-based food appeared to be a curry, which I didn't fancy, so rose to leave. I was prevented from leaving and told to go sit back down and someone would come to take my order. I said I was looking for something vegan and was told that there was a baked potato with beans (not on the menu) and the soup was vegan but not the bread (again, not noted on the menu). I asked why the bread wasn't vegan since most bread is, and was told the chef said it had milk in it. Then the manager appeared and asked the waitress"Is this The Vegan?" I'll wager that's not in the hospitality handbook. She then told me the white bread was vegan and I could have the soup, which was vegan. It's 2024, and yet in a hugely popular tourist area someone trying to limit their complicity in the appalling suffering of farmed animals is treated like a nuisance. Thank you, but no thanks.

We had a good look around the garden centre and got what we came for at a reasonable rate, the wood pellet bbq looked amazing and very tempting as it’s on our list to get one, it was a really good display of wood cooking appliances for all sorts of budgets But we wanted something to eat and never been to the restaurant before, brilliant manager sorry forgot his name but what a welcome, the place was full but service was really good, presentation of food was spot on and tasted just as good, and prices were acceptable, the sweet was equally well done and all in all 10 /10 We will be back, we have missed out not being here before

Not sure where to begin with this one. But simply put, the food and service was just not upto standard. I ordered a chicken roast and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The bacon wrapped chicken breast looked as though it had been pan seared atop a radiator. The root vegetables appeared as though they were salvaged from a university students produce draw. Completely shrivelled and served unappetisingly with skins and tops still on. And to top it off, they'd run out of Yorkshire Puddings! With no offer of a partial comp or replacement in sight! And all this for the bargain price for £16. Lovely selection of gardening supplies, but terrible food in terms of quality and value for money. Next time, I'll grab a maccies.

Cut to the point, we won’t be going again to the cafe. As locals we have visited Hayes for more years than I can remember, many times just for the food which used to be excellent but it’s changed. We queued on the stairs waiting with many others to get in to the cafe only to find if you wanted coffee and cake, soup or a sandwich and chips it was fine and if you arrived early you could have breakfast but what was available was extremely limited and only 1 item on the menu for children. The lovely dinners they used to supply are none existent. We were served immediately but the people opposite were sitting there when we arrived and had to ask to be served as they’d been overlooked. We were seated just by the entrance to the kitchen where the waitresses had a short meeting as some of the ordered were wrong, we saw one waitress carrying a full tray of food back to the kitchen. Be aware when we came to leave the only exit was the metal steps which you have to go outside to access in the pouring rain, we attempted to use the lift but couldn’t get to it as so many people who had come up in the lift were standing there waiting for tables and lift access was blocked, I did wonder if there was an emergency how would the disabled people get out if they couldn’t manage steps and access to the lift was blocked as it was when we were there. We will be looking elsewhere for a garden centre that provides a better experience and better food for our next day out.

This is good cafe spoilt by unfriendly and some rude waiting on staff. I have visited several times as I live not too far away .Every time I have been, we have encountered more than one unfriendly or rude staff member. It really does spoil the cafe.On our last visit, we were met by one, particularly surly waitress, which is why I have decided to write this review . I enjoy the food here, and while not all the staff are rude or unfriendly customer service really needs work ,staff are not doing customers a favour letting them eat here, which seems to be the attitude of many staff in the cafe.

Really (really) bad. Brusquely directed to "sit at a table with a menu" - no other guidance (order at the till? table service?). Waited a good long time for a waitress. People at other tables were serviced before me. Ordered a flat white. Came in a heavy cup. The coffee was not good - obviously from a machine where you press a button. There's a mismatch between the coffee and the size of the cup so the coffee only fills about 3/4 of the cup and doesn't look nice. If you charge Costa/Starbucks prices (actually Hayes was more expensive), at least have it look nice and serve it in a nice cup? Ordered toasted sandwich. Both halves were placed on top of coleslaw meaning the bottom of the French bread sandwiches were soggy. Rather than mediterranean vegetables, it was a massive, massive helping of cheese melted with a couple of onions and mushrooms. It was so bad I nearly sent it back. I never do that. No-one came and asked me how the sandwich was. I was ignored until I paid. And the bill was ridiculous - almost fifteen pounds. I left the bottom half of the sandwich, the colelsaw which tasted more of onion than anything else, and the side salad which was lettuce with some rock hard chopped peppers. In other words, awful service, awful food. Give it a swerve.

We called today for lunch there were 7 of us we sat outside. The prices were more expensive than last time we visited, despite advertising on here as vegan options in telling there aren’t any! I am not vegan but I am allergic to milk so can’t have any dairy products at all, all the packed sandwiches have butter on them, all the toasted cobtsin cheese and the only non dairy option in a jacket potato was beans. The Sunday dinner looked very dry and there were sausages under the heat lamp, everything was pre cooked and kept warm under heat lamps. I asked the woman on the hot food if I could have a ham salad roll without butter, she came back with a white roll no salad on it and just a piece of ham slapped on it threw it at me and said there’s no salad we haven’t got time to do it. I was so annoyed I felt like it was an inconvenience and I felt like saying well i haven’t got time to be ill !! I ended up with a jacket potato which was dry and cold beans. I reviewed this café last time we went as It seemed to have improved, oh dear how wrong can we be. Last time they were doing Panini's which were quite nice. They don't do them now, we were told that they were too hard when they came out of the toaster so they stopped doing them. Maybe they were cooking them too long (just a thought) anyway we got a Tuna mayo & cheese toastie instead, it was not very nice, it was hard to make out exactly what the filling was as it was so gloopy. The sandwiches are pre-packed and look like the sort you pick up in a hurry at the garage and the cooked meals we saw didn't look very appetising at all. We really feel this café needs a complete overhaul as far as the food goes. The prices aren't cheap either.

They were doing xmas dinner so husband decided to have that, they didnt have my first choice so I had chicken in some sort of sauce which contained mushrooms. We were astonished that the knife bent when tryng to cut into the sprouts, they were completely raw! literally raw. the turkey was rubbery and just generally it was not nice and cold, the chicken dish, well the mushrooms were huge, and not really well cooked, the dish was totally cold, I was worried about later after effects and we were not disappointed, ruined the rest of our short break. That was the food, the service is not the worst I have had, that accolade goes to a Lurch type relative in Prague but it was a close run thing. Bear in mind Hayes Garden Centre is a major draw for visitors to the area the cafe should be excellent, it is not and it is expensive, please do not eat there and waste your hard earned money like we did.

On a rainy day we visited the Hayes Garden Center. Feeling peckish we decided to have lunch in their restaurant. Big mistake. The restaurant was packed with people and I think the staff were ladling out the food as fast as they could. We had very dry, over-cooked, baked potatoes and soup. The soup was bland. My husband had the pork pie and it was also flavorless. Very disappointed.

We decided to try lunch here today whilst visiting the garden centre. What a let down. It was busy with people mostly having drinks. We both ordered the meat and potato pie and a pot of tea. At the check out we were charged almost £17 for what can only be described as mediocre food. Pie was overcooked, pastry could hardly be cut through but contents mushy, peas bone dry and crumbly, wifes chips were of the frozen variety and beans tasted cheap and nasty. I was only allowed either peas or carrots, iv'e had better ready meals! Will never eat here again, they need to get their act together charging top prices for rubbish. Another thing noted was that a man was spotted using a vape cigarette inside. Surely this shouldn't be allowed?Photo is of what we were served today.

I wouldn't advise eating at the four seasons cafe. My husband and I called in for lunch and found the food very poor. My Moroccan lamb was very fatty and actually had a small bone in the dish so really wasn't nice. My husband had the balsamic duck which was very, very strong and not nice. We paid almost £20.00 and didn't eat the majority of our meal. Despite leaving our meals, which we left at the edge of the table whilst we finished our drinks, not one member of staff asked about our meal or why we hadn't eaten it. Therefore we had a very poor experience both because of the food and the staff. We will definitely not be returning.

We had lunch in the four seasons cafe at Hayes garden centre today. We should have known the cafe would be busy when we had to queue to get into the overflow car park! It's was hard to find a seat in the Resturant but eventually we found one big enough for all of us. The menu was a little limited due to the shear volume of customers in the restaurant but what we had was fine. We will go back another day and try it again when it's not so busy.

we visit here regularly as Ambleside is always very busy and trying to find some where to eat can be a nightmare,They have a great menu at a reasonable price and the service is very good. We had the roast Lamb meal the food was very hot and tasty with a very good portion size and the staff very helpful and informative about the food, a huge range of drinks are available hot or cold. There is lots of seating inside or outside on the terrace,The staff constantly clearing the table and wiping them down as soon as a table is left.well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

We stopped off for tea and cake. Enjoyable although a little pricey. Large cafe with an outdoor eating area.

We enjoyed a nice pot of tea in the sunshine, seated on the terrace. The cafe is self service, lots to choose from sweet and savoury dishes. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside on the terrace, which also has a smoking area at one end if required. The interior of the cafe has lovely stained glass inserts in the walls and windows which makes it a very colourful setting.

Huge restaurant. Excellent breakfast offer. My grandson had the five item for £4.99 and scoffed the lot. I usually visit for toast and coffee but occasionally have lunch. I have never been disappointed. There is a lift for disabled customers. Well led team by Chris the Restaurant Manager. Seem motivated to deliver a good service. Very popular but loads of tables and an outside terrace as overspill. Word of caution. Go to the loo if you need to before going to eat. There are toilets on the ground floor through the 'Sainsbury' wing where the fish are but none near the restaurant. This does need to be addressed. Management please note

Garden centre cafe style food can be a hit or miss but they have got it right here. From cakes and snacks to hot dishes the choice is varied and priced just right. When you look around and see lots of people tucking in and nodding at each other you know it must be good. One down side was we noticed a few people having to clear a table for themselves o.k. It was busy but more staff would have solved this.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
