Delicious food and great service - we had a number of dietary requirements (dairy allergy and coeliac) and the team couldn’t do enough for us, checking details with the kitchen and giving us a lovely lunch. They clearly take a lot of care with their food prep - a great local cafe

Lovely visit with my Husband and my Mum. We were met with a very welcoming hostess who was really happy to seat us so my Mum could be as comfortable as possible, as she has a disability and was transferring from a wheel chair. The food was lovely, we opted for the Fish Finger sandwich which in truth was beautiful fish goujons on a brioche bun with tartar sauce. Depending on where you are sat, there are beautiful views over Windermere. And a superb selection of homemade cakes. Definitely worth a visit.

Rolled up with 14 family members, two in wheelchairs, plus a dog at 1.15pm on a half term holiday lunchtime when brockholes were having special Halloween events. What were we thinking?! Only waited 15mins for a table, served in minutes, food arrived shortly afterwards. Great service from every single member of staff, all smiling despite the huge crowds and obvious pressure AND the food was great. Thanks all for accommodating us and making what is often quite a stressful experience a very pleasant lunch.

Wish i'd been before on previous trips, won't be the last time i visit. Visited for coffee and cake and it didn't disappoint. Always great to see a few vegan options, Hubby enjoyed the vegan flapjack, my scone was very light and fluffy with lovely jam and clotted cream and the Victoria Sponge was also very soft. Also nice coffee and hot chocolate. Staff very pleasant also. Thanks

We attempted to visit the cafe today, stood for over 10 minutes waiting to be seated, not busy at all, so many empty tables and staff. We were completely ignored! Not even a "we will be with you in a few minutes". Food looked good but unfortunately did not get that far!

The food was good when it arrived. There was a delay in bringing dishes out for all five people and this left some of our party finished before others had received the food. The menu was really limited for children and needed some simpler options available. Service was not great as we asked several times for the bill.

Family of five. Senior citizen, 2 adults, teenager and 8 year old. Only the teenager enjoyed his meal. The child's hotdog contained a very herby sausage which was rejected. Oap rejected both her Earl Grey tea and pork belly toasties as being too flowery and the gardeners plate was not the traditional ploughmans we were expecting. All in all, it was one of the worst £50 we have spent sadly.

Visited here last week for lunch before kids experienced Tree Top climb.Arrived at 1.30 ordered food for 7. Two of the party had cold food which came straightaway. One hour later still waiting. No explanation. No customer service. Went back to desk to see what was happening to be told we would have to wait another 15 minutes. Could not and would not wait any longer. Real shame ~ don’t bother! Very disappointed.

We have been here before and had a nice experience. I recently visited Brockhole cafe with my family. There were lots of nice menu choices. We ordered a toastie, 2 soups and a bowl of chips. The cutlery was running low and we had to search to find clean cutlery available to use. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks and after over half an hour waiting for our food we checked with the staff how long we were going to be waiting as we had a boat to catch. We were told it would be an hour wait. This hadn't been mentioned when we made our order. We then asked to cancel our order as we had to catch our boat. At this point, our food appeared. There were many other families waiting a long time for orders too. One positive was that our order was cancelled but we were still given our soup in takeaway cups to take on the boat. A shame to miss out on a nice bowl of soup in a lovely setting.

Just awful. We ordered fish fingers & chips, hot dog & chips, two cheese toasties, soup and roll, 2 teas and 3 cokes. Cost £38.20. My nephew couldn’t eat the hot dog and when me and my sister tried it, it was dried out, burnt and was like rubber. How do you burn a hot dog?The cheese and tomato toasties were as hard as nails, no side salad, just a dried up panini with mayo and whole grain mustard mixed together on the plate. I ordered tomato soup, I was then told they were now on mushroom soup, I agreed. It was like thick cream with mushroom flavouring added, it wasn’t warm either. We had to clean the table off and nobody about to wipe it down. Extremely over priced when you can go back in to the shop and get a sandwich for £1.90. The cafe lets the place down. No clean forks available, had to wait for them.

As the only notice we could see was right when you where at the till ready to pay. Notices outside would be helpful. We ordered soft drinks, coffee's & a scone. Everyone said drinks where ok & dad enjoyed his scone. Down side table hadn't been cleared from previous people. Only cleared when our drinks arrived & that was only because we asked. Kids had completed 2 hrs on the trees top nets so decided to get a drink to warm up. First impression was positive when they asked for our table number to bring drinks over over but it was down hill from there. Sat waiting for 15 mins so asked a server who went to check and said they would be 3 minutes. 5 mins later and still no drinks. So went back to the counter and asked why a lady that had been stood next to us for 5 minutes talking and then going up to get a drink had hers miles before us. The lady replied that it was because she ordered take out. I asked what the difference was but didn’t stick around hand for the reply. A few mins later the drinks turned up. Luke warm so sent the hot chocolate back. Waste of time and money.

Visited with my boyfriend and his parents. It was a busy day during lunch time, so although we were not told there was a delay, we expected to wait a while, but waited 40 minutes for 4 sandwiches. When they arrived there was not much filling, the chicken Caesar had no dressing whatsoever, we found a hair in one of the sandwiches and the salad tasted of grass. Incredibly disappointing, they were clearly understaffed and told every person who asked when they would get their food (due to long wait) that it was “literally coming now”. Will not be returning, would prefer a picnic, much cheaper and more fulfilling.

Stopped for refreshments whilst visiting Brockhole. We ordered 2 filter coffees and a piece of tray bake cake each. Couldn't have filter coffee, only Americano. That was fine but the milk came in the tiniest portion and was mainly froth. It took 20 minutes from ordering to be served food and it was not at all busy. The traybake was displayed in what I thought was a chiller cabinet. When it arrived it was melting, gooey and soggy. When ordering the table number had to be given. We witnessed chaotic service on the terrace with the wrong orders coming put constantly. Staff kept going up to tables asking if they ordered what they had brought out. This happened about 6 times in the 30 minutes we were there. Food orders kept going back as they were either not what was ordered or was a duplicate order. I guess a fair amount of food was wasted. Wouldn't recommend the café, sorry.

This cafe is well worth the pull up the hill to the visitors centre. The views over Lake Windermere are lovely, with good views of nearby planting. A generous amount of outdoor seating. We were there just for a cup of tea but were tempted to buy several of their cakes too - which were all lovely. Quite generous portions of tea too. I wouldn't be in a rush to go back to the tea room, sandwiches are freshly made but are expensive for what you get. The coffee was okay but for me traveling alone with a 2 year old it was a complicated process. You have to find your table first and then queue up to order at the till. This meant having to leave my bag on the table to ensure no one else sat there whilst I was in the queue, I then had to return to collect my coffee when it was ready so had to leave my child at the table on her own - not a sensible arrangement for people alone or with small children especially when the only available table was either in a separate room or outside! Having said that the views are lovely over the lake and I would visit again just to have a walk round the gardens, although the parking charge is a bit steep.

Queridos oh cielos. . . . . . . Todavía no sándwiches.. No venga a decirme.

Looks good and certainly the views are excellent but the food (main reason for going) was a let down. It's counter order here and given the price of a main meal (£12 plus) this is a bit off. I presume the majority of their clients are tea and a cake?Ordered the burger. Service was good with only a short wait. I was enjoying the burger (salad and lovely chips) but when halfway through discovered a lump the consistency of rubber!!Cut it away and when reported to the manager I was offered a replacement or refund so they dealt with it well. Another colleague also suffered the the same in their burger. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice burger but would not rate it as a £10 burger.COULD have been great but prices and the burger itself were a let down.

We visited here both mornings of our trip for breakfast as it was within easy walking distance of the hotel we were staying at (and was a cheaper option than the £10 per head there!). Nothing fancy, but decent enough coffee and a bacon/sausage butty. Perfect for fuelling up before a busy day and there's plenty of other activities on the site worth checking out. For those complaining about the prices, I think you need a reality check on how much things cost in an area of tourism with a captive market!

I have visited Brockhole a couple of times now but this is the first time I have used the terrace Cafe.I visited with my mam and my two children. After having a look at the huge menu on the wall which in fairness didn't have a lot of choice for the likes of myself who has many food intolerances and allergies ..my mam and I decided on a drink but we would feed my children. Who are 9 and 13 so not the smallest of appetites. We refused to pay almost £5 for HALF a jacket potato! A child CAN eat a full potato and they are usually only £5 in other cafes....not the most expensive choice Usually! We decided on a child's pick and mix bag for my daughter (9) and she quite happily picked her 5 items. I don't have a complaint with the 5 items (I work in Debenhams cafe and we do the same) however the choice she had was poor... And poorly signed. We weren't sure if the fruit pots or yoghurt were part of it... We weren't sure if she could have crackers And cheese Or cheese Or crackers!!! Where were the crisps on offer... So for almost £5 my daughter had HALF a sandwich (which is the most annoying part...hadn't realised this until she had quickly eaten it) an apple...a tiny piece of cheese, a cheap carton and a small chocolate biscuit. So it shouldn't have cost me half that price!!!! Disgusting! The next thing that annoyed me was the fact that I checked my receipt which for a tea, a coffee and my children's sandwiches cost me £16.... I discovered I had been charged EXTRA FOR SOYA MILK!I had asked for a decaf (no decaf left) soya latte.... Which I got. Was OK... However why was I charged to have soya milk? Why was I penalised for having an allergy??? It is shown as an extra on the menu... I did not ask for it as an extra I asked for it as my main milk since I can't digest lactose!!! Why should I or any other of your customers be charged extra for this?!!!! I could not eat in your cafe as I could not see the gluten free options.. Or dairy free options... There should be more choice for those with allergies. So my mother felt like she could not eat because I wasn't eating. Will come back to Brockhole but won't be visiting your cafe again until you make massive changes!

Brockhole, as an attraction, and a family day out is a great place to visit, and one I would thoroughly recommend, however yet again the cafe experience was very poor. Would be it be so hard to get in 1-2 extra staff in the cafe? And maybe get stocked up ready for a busy day? No one wants to queue for ages, watch the staff look uncomfortable and clearly under pressure, having constant run-ins with customers over delays and food running out, the fridges were half empty with little choice of food except cakes and crisps for a kids lunch, or face 20-30 minutes wait for food, all followed by sitting at dirty tables with leftover food all under and around them. Here's a little tip, it's summer holidays now, you might be busy, please get some more staff in. What an absolute shame the cafe experience didn't match the rest of the attraction, again.

The terrace was lovely to sit out on, and inside had historic photos of the occupants of this house. The Patio is a great place to sit and drink your morning coffee. We went there out of season and during term time so there weren't hoards of kids running about. The cafe was quite basic offering the usual paninis and stuff - unimaginative and pricey (especially for a family of 4 or more). The walk around the grounds and along the Lake edge was good and accessible for prams and wheelchairs. Although the attraction is free there are car parking fees that can work out expensive for a couple of hours visit. Usual gift shop offering the usual trinkets.

Very spacious which is good if you have a big family. Nice to have some table space and good that the dog was welcome inside. Food was average and very expensive. Only had snack lunchtime sandwiches and found it cost more for this than our large hot evening meals in near by pubs/restaurants. Will probably take a picnic next time.

We first visited late afternoon on a very busy sunny day. There was only a few sandwiches left (to be expected really) and none of the kids sandwiches left at all. But we took what was available just as we were in a hurry and didn't want to wait for hot food. The sandwiches were all delicious and we were pleasantly surprised! Reasonably priced and very filling. The next morning we stopped by for breakfast and it was even better. We then saw how well stocked the readymade section is before an afternoon of visitors. We just ordered hot filled rolls and slightly winced at the price before ordering but they were definitely worth it. Quality bacon, tasty sausages and soft toasted rolls! My fussy 4 year old daughter who normally won't eat any sort of roll took a bite and stole her brothers it was that good!

We first visited the cafe here a couple of years ago and had a lovely lunch (my husband still talks about how nice his lamb burger was!) so we headed there again on 1 July. It was a very warm day and we went for lunch about 12.30pm.Plenty of seating on the terrace and to the side so you can watch the tree ropes. Ordered a chicken burger and a panini. Served in good time by a friendly member of staff. Lovely chicken burger. Fresh chicken breast loaded with bacon and cheese. Panini was nice too. Lovely fresh side salad and crisp chips. Great selection of Bottle Green drinks too (try the lemon and mint!).Very reasonably priced for the Lake District. Less than £24 for a drink each, burger, panini and chips. Very tempting selection of cakes and tray bakes too. Surprised to read negative reviews as we actually went there specifically to go to the cafe because it's so lovely!Great view too of Windermere. We'll definitively return.

Went for dinner over the bank holiday weekend, this place needs a good looking at, it was dirty, staff were just wondering round with blank faces ( there were a couple of exceptions) and more inportantly the food was terrible. The setting is stunning and in this day and age the service and quality just isn't acceptable. Then to top it off, I bought some ice creams and the serving counter is at the beginning of the queue for food so by the time I got to paying for them I had finished mine and the kids were just melting everywhere.

We visited Brockhole just for a relaxed day out and to get some fresh air. We are locals and have been here before. At about half past 2 (so not even peak lunch time) we decided to get a bite to eat at the Terrace cafe. We ordered 4 BBQ Chicken and bacon paninis at almost 5 pounds each and were promptly told there was a bit of a wait on food, but they weren't sure on how long. We ordered anyway as we thought 4 sandwiches wouldn't take long. For any visitors be prepared to have a struggle on finding tables! It wasn't particularly busy but all of the tables had seemed to have been moved by other customers and chairs taken from tables and not put back by the staff so there seemed to be plenty of tables but no chairs to sit on! Eventually we found a table and had some drinks to keep us going until the food arrived. 45 minutes later... A poor young man who was obviously run off his feet and the only person serving food approached the table (after first going to the wrong one) with our food. He then brought us an extra one mistakenly - the mistake of the kitchen not him. The panini was less than average.. plenty of chicken, basically no bacon and no flavour at all never mind BBQ. The small salad on the side had more flavour. For the price you would expect better. I have a feeling they may have had some absences on the staff front, but even so! At least make sure your staff know table numbers! Also, having the chairs fixed to the floor could help some with the seating problems. The wait for a few paninis and at that price each was ridiculous. We left as quickly as we could after eating them. I would think twice before coming back.

Just been up to Brockholes to get a little fresh air on Christmas Eve and check out the latest improvements to the site. Sadly they don’t extend to the café and its staff.Firstly – the signing is confusing to actually get into the café, with lots of signs from all directions around the park pointing you in the right direction but nothing when you reach the front of the house facing the lake. What a shambles and very frustrating when you have an elderly relative in tow. All it would take is some signs or boards saying ‘Entrance this way’ with an arrow. Finally found our way in and regretted the effort it had taken. I realise it was Christmas Eve and the staff were probably only interested in heading home – but it shouldn’t be so obvious to their customers that they could not care less about providing a service. Pointed out to staff the signage issues outside – they couldn’t care less. ‘Perhaps you could mention it to your manager?’ I asked. Barely a grunt in reply, which set the tone for their service. I’ve been in crematoriums with a more cheery atmosphere and a warmer welcome!Ordered 3 hot chocolates and selected 3 small cakes with barely any change out of £15.00. Asked for 2 of the hot chocolates with all of the extras – and for £1.20 extra a piece what we got was a handful of tiny marshmellows, a chocolate flake, half a cup of sprayed cream, and only half a cup of actual hot chocolate. So you pay more and actually get less!Nice line in rip-off parking too! Minimum fee - £3.00 which is fine if you plan to spend the day there, or even half a day. But we couldn’t wait to get away.

This Visitors Centre is great but the cafe a bit limited- homemade soup was lovely but kids' meals were the usual list if 'with chips' and the panini my husband ordered had no garnish of any sort ( a bit of salad would have been good). I asked for some fresh bread as I'd been given quite a dry end piece and the waiter shrugged and said 'yeah'- it was like talking to my own son when in a surly mood- mind you, it gave the people at the next table a good laugh! He was the exception though- everyone else was lovely so I assume he was having a bad day!

We got off the Lake Windermere cruise here not knowing what to expect and after quite a walk from the boat landing found ourselves in a family oriented outdoor activity area. trip wires, pond dipping and general kiddy fun in the outdoors ... this cafe venue is geared to that audience which is fair enough. The gardens though are lovely and there are some interesting old photos of the House in its heyday. The café has outdoor seating some of it with a view down to the lake edge but none too scenic. The internal seating area is pretty vast and noisily functional and family appropriate. The servery area is busy and not very well laid out and food again family focused and basic.

We sat outside on the terrace with wonderful views. We had to clear our own table before we could sit down and quite a few tables were full of dirty dishes. That aside, the cakes were reasonably priced and delicious. It cost just under £10 for two ice creams, two cakes and coffee for two which I thought was reasonable. Staff were helpful and friendly. Jugs of water were freely available and the cooked food looked delicious.

Ate in the cafe after completing our Tree Top Trek, hubby ordered Lakeland burger, which he said was nice but had a bit of a strange texture, I had the soup - lovely and huge bowl full and daughter a sandwich and various bits and bobs to accompany it - she wanted the child's lunch box deal but wanted a tuna sandwich (choices were ham or cheese) and very helpful lady offered to make her one after seeing her select a full size one (she declined thinking she could manage it all, but she didn't!) Although busy we managed to get a table with no problem and didn't wait too long for our food.Anyone who has done the Tree Top Trek receives a 10% discount so keep your wristband as we weren't told about this before going into the cafe! fortunately still had them on when we saw signs at the till. Lots of lovely cakes etc so nice for a coffee stop too if you don't want a full meal.

Besides the Terrace Cafe, Brockhole in itself is a truly beautiful place to visit and it is free entrance Brockhole boast a grand day out for all the family there is a lovely walk down to the lake, on the walk down you pass a lot of strange carvings with wordings carved on them which you have to work out, there is croquet and archery, a park as well as indoor activity and displays, the gardens are beautiful with plenty of colourful flowers an orangey and the Terrace Cafe with indoor as well as outdoor seating worth a visit just for the views across Lake Windermere a really good place to take the family, also there are picnic areas dotted around so you can take your own food and drink and quite a large car park.

I stopped here for lunch with my toddler and baby whilst my husband was swimming in Lake Windermere. The cafe was clean and the staff friendly. There was a decent range of food both for me and the toddler. This was freshly cooked and good quality. There are also jugs of cold water provided free, which was a nice touch. The prices are on the high side but no worse than any other small local tourist trap.

The cafe is positioned well with beautiful views over the lake. There is plenty of seating and the cafe prices were not extortionate. The teas are served in cafetieres, our breakfast tea was presented nicely with loose leaves but the earl grey was simply a tea bag inside the cafetiere. I returned this asking for loose leaf and was told they only had it in twinings bags. Once I pointed to the jars on show the assistant then opened a new packet of loose tea and gave me the replacement (without any apology).

We took a river cruise up lake Windermere from Bowness and stopped of at Brockhole visitor centre. There were lots of adventurous activities for both adults and children alike. The less adventurous could walk around the gardens and have a game of crazy golf. We had our lunch before rejoining the river cruise up to Ambleside. The cafe was good and a good selection of meals/snacks to keep us going for the rest of the day. There is also a good sized gift shop.

Popped into the cafe for a couple of takeaway coffees while we had a stroll round the grounds. Ordered 2 takeaway coffees from the woman on the til who took our money and directed us to the end of the counter where we would receive our drinks. Stood there for a good 5 minutes before 2 other members of staff appeared and proceeded to have a conversation with each other about who was supposed to be preparing the drinks. When one finally decided to make them the people who were behind us in the queue got their drinks first!! When ours finally arrived they were in cups and I had to explain I asked for takeaway coffees, to which I got a dirty look and a huff as they were swiftly taken away from under my nose. At this point, several other young members of staff appeared from out of the woodwork and stood about looking rather helpless and apathetic. When we finally got our coffees they were so hot they nearly peeled the skin off the inside of mouth. All that waiting about for scalded milk! The cafe was practically empty so lord knows what the situation would be had they been busy. Customer service really needs to be worked on and maybe hire a few members of staff that know what they are doing.

We used to like to call into Brockhole Visitor Centre for a walk and look forward to coffee/cake - but we noticed the last 12 months the quality of food and service does seem to have deteriorated - it is not a cafe we would be excited to visit anymore. There are lovely view over the grounds from parts of the cafe and it is nice to sit outside on the terrace. Note now that as like many places in Cumbria you now have to pay to park to go into grounds or just the cafe/shop

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
