Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.

As afternoon tea fans, we have very high standards, and Storrs Hall absolutely delivered. It's well up with the best places in the country for afternoon tea. Creative savouries, freshly bakes warm scones, outstanding patisserie. Our waitress was lovely, very attentive, friendly and helpful. Our table was in a beautiful lounge room and overlooked the lake. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time at the beautiful hotel celebrating my father in laws 70th birthday with the festive afternoon tea. This was by far one of the best I have ever experienced, worth every penny. We had a lovely view of the lake whilst enjoying our tea. There was a huge selection on offer, some of which we had to take home! The red Rudolph mousse and cinnamon choux were delicious. The quality of the service was superb, all the staff were friendly and very attentive.

Have to book the tea and give any dietary needs. They phone you the day before to confirm the booking. Plenty of parking. You choose your table on arrival. Endless pots of leaf tea (or pay extra for Prosecco etc). Nice choice of savoury and sweet things. Lovely setting. Friendly helpful staff. Top quality all round. £29.95pp for tea and cakes. Go for it!

Began evening with aperitifs in the superbly positioned gazebo overlooking the lake. Headed into the restaurant where we were met by friendly efficient staff and were allocated a table with views of the lake. All four of our party agreed the service and all four starters, mains & desserts were of exceptional quality. Felt like a restaurant team very much on top of their game. Only minor criticism was that the lamb main - although very good - was a rather small portion.

Our last day in the lakes, and so pleased we ended with afternoon tea at Storrs. From the moment we stepped in to the hotel we were welcomed by smiling happy faces. . .

Tiny reception desk undermanned. Room cramped although pleasant view of lake. Used the hotel dining room for evening meal told no steaks available at just seven thirty! Meals were minute at maximum prices, staff pleasant apart from management who after checking out wrongly accused us of not paying the rather extortionate bill, no apologies given or received. Overall impression is of a once sumptuous and elite grand house living on its past glories.

Mi marido no era 14 libras plowmans mucho mejor!

We were staying in the hotel and had dinner as part of a package. We could not have wished for a more eclectic and fantastic dining experience with caviar canapés and artichoke amuse bouche this really was fine dining at its best. Highlights were the Sea Bass and Venison and the home made chocolates. The dining room is small but stylish if a little quiet so chat was kept to a whisper. Perhaps a little music wouldn't go amiss.

We had dinner here the first night whilst staying here for a few days. The service was impeccable and the food was stunning... Flavours one would never think of- definitely worth of a Michelin star. In between the courses were little amuse bouche courses that were also delicious. Sam the head waiter was very busy and we lived his sarcasm. Fred...who had also served us in the lobby with a snack when we first arrived, was delightful. What stops it becoming a Michelin starred restaurant is not the food but the lack of ambience. Deathly quiet with diners whispering so as not to stand out. We mentioned this on check out and it was acknowledged that a number of people had mentioned that this was needed. I do hope they think about this as it would make for a less formal and stuff atmosphere.

Four of us ate in the restaurant and decided to go for the full taster menu accompanied by the wine pairing. Whilst this was not inexpensive at £105 per person I would suggest it brilliant value. All eight courses were beautifully and expertly prepared and served with the chosen wines fitting each course perfectly. A vegetable course of Jerusalem artichokes was one of the top three foods I have ever put into my mouth and the accompanying Wairau PinotNoir fabulous. The big wine find for me was the Moscato D'Asti Fontanafredda 2013 which we drank with an exquisite red currant and Elderfower marshmallow pudding. Simply wonderful. My sister had eaten recently at Le Manoir and she said that this food compared very favourably with that noted restaurant. Praise indeed. When I return to Storrs Hall would I eat the taster menu again? You just try and stop me! Fabulous opulent memories - thank you so much.

We stayed for the weekend at Storrs Hall, and as with our previous visit, had a lovely time. The hotel (separately reviewed) has some quirks, but the restaurant is outstanding. Since our last visit, they have added a third AA rosette, and well deserved. We ate from the a la carte (there is also a tasting menu), which had 4 choices of starter, 4 of main, and if you include cheese as a dessert, usually 4 dessert options. Over the 2 days we covered most options. The mackerel starter would be in our top 10 starters of all time, we think, and all four mains were delicious, the duck probably top of the list. Unusual but exquisite tasting canapés, a bread basket filled with irresistible different types of bread, a very good wine list, and a beautiful view of the lake, completed the experience. The only downside is that despite some wonderful individual members of staff, 2 of whom we remembered from our last visit in December, they don't have the 5 star dining experience quite sorted, with our pre-dinner drinks in the lounge leaving us either forgotten on the first evening, or rushed through on the second evening, where their anticipation of a full restaurant and not that many staff led process to trump diner experience for a short time. Still, we cant wait to come back to stay and eat here again.

I have stayed at Storrs Hall for a wedding a few years back and made a reservation for my husbands birthday on the Saturday followed by Afternoon Tea on the Sunday.I phoned and left a message to book but now one called me back so I had to call again which I wouldn't have expected. On arrival the welcome was not what I expected we were greeted but not with the professionalism and the warmth that I had hoped for.We looked at the menu and thought we should leave as it didn't sound that appetising lots of strange combinations of food. How wrong were we. The food was amazing which I would give 5 stars to. It was the service that was poor.We had to poor our own wine. The staff weren't engaging and when asked about the food they didn't really seem that knowledgable. There was no warmth in the service at all. Lastly there was no reference at all to my husbands birthday from any of the staff, which I was disappointed at as I had specifically mentioned it.Beautiful location, stunning venue, fabulous food but not impressed by the almost robotic service. So much so I rang the next day to cancel the Afternoon Tea.... Got the answer service again, no one called back to confirm that they had received the call.

Mothers Day Lunch 2015We arrived at 12.45 in plenty of time for our pre booked table for 1.15. We started in the bar and were eventually taken to our table with an apology for the wait. We were presented with what we later overheard was an amuse Bouche. We selected our starter and main course from the special menu (Choice of 3 starters and 3 mains) starter arrived and was ok. by 2.30 we were still waiting for our main course so I went to find the manager to complain I was told that they would be straight over and did we want another drink while we waited (No thanks) by 2.45 we had had enough and got up to leave. I asked to see the manger immediately and was given the assistant manager. who listened to our story apologised profusely and asked if we would now like our meal. Well by this time we wanted to leave so were offered a meal another time which we also declined. The hotel itself is a little tired, the staff are all very nice, but service is exceptionally slow. We've always enjoyed our dining experience at Storrs, since we made our debut in 2011. Back in the day there was a faded charm about the place. often referred to as #shabbychic it usually delivered quality in just the right quantity..However, since 2014 there has been a change in ownership, which has seen a move with the times. The kitchen has seen @conortoomey80 installed as chef du patron. It appears his vision is focused on in season locally sourced ingredients. Although very quiet, the restaurant is ideally placed on Lake Windermere, with stunning views during the daytime. The staff are attentive and most welcoming. In particular the charming and delightful Fred who had taking care of us ever since our wedding at Storrs in 2011.The menu was balanced, beautifully presented and delicious. The highlight was the stunning Barbecue Jerusalem Artichoke with celeriac crisps and parsley oil. We will be back very soon to see what Conor has in store during the Spring. #cantwait

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!
