New Moon Restaurant in South Lakeland

Went with my mother and stepfather. Starters were fine as was the wine. When mains came, my stepfather was brought a pizza instead of pasta. When we raised this the server turned and took a deep breath as if containing his anger. The staff were generally polite but condescending tones were prevalent. I won't go back again.

Food was gorgeous and staff were very friendly. Me and my partner had two courses each and dessert was beautiful. Can highly recommend

Shocking experience. 0nly 3 tables occupied. I ordered one of the expensive wines which was opened and just plonked on the table. I had to get up and ask for side plates for our starter of garlic bread, then I had to got up again to ask for it to cut. The main course didn't come complete, so I had to reorder what was missing. You need to get your act together as I definitely will not be returning.

The Moon Restaurant in Highgate, Kendal, was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The service was painfully average, and while the garlic bread was decent, it arrived before the drinks—and without side plates. How does that even happen? For my main, I specifically asked for no olives on my pizza. What do they do? Bring it out with olives. When I pointed it out, they didn’t bother making a new one—they just picked off the olives and sent the same pizza back, hoping I wouldn’t notice. That’s not just lazy; it’s insulting. And to top it all off, they tried to overcharge me for drinks I didn’t even have! While they quickly corrected the bill, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s a shame, as past visits have been decent, but after this fiasco, I won’t be returning any time soon.

Another Italian restaurant in Kendal that can’t get it right. I had the beef fusilli ragu and it was just about edible. The sauce had the same taste of Heinz tomato soup and the spaghetti was definitely on the cheap side. Unfortunately won’t be going back. The dessert wasn’t much better.

Went here last night and had a fantastic time! The service was top notch, including the visit for the manager for an added extra! The food was delicious and at a good price comparatively! Good selection of drinks too and was bustling for a Sunday evening, would 100% reccomend!

We were hoping for good authentic Italian food when we popped in for a late lunch. Unfortunately it was not very good at all. The vodka ravioli seemed to have been overcooked and in a microwave at that. It was all stuck together and large parts of the pasta were more than al dente. The sauce was a very peculiar pink. No Italian flavors at all. The pizza was also not great. The best food item by far were the fries. Disappointing below par food at restaurants prices

Booked due to reviews and we were not disappointed. Lovely setting and reasonably priced. We had the carbonara, lasagne, kids meatballs and parmigiana and portobello (2 starters as a main). Absolutely delicious. Would recommend.

We visited the moon on Friday and from start to finish it was superb, we pre-ordered and everything was exactly as requested, The staff were friendly and welcoming, especially shimmy who went above and beyond to make our visit special.

We had dinner here once while visiting the Lake District, and we were very surprised with the good quality of the mains. My wife's dish (Beef Cheek with watercress risotto) was really worthy of special mention, it was reaaaaally good, like "London nice restaurant" good. Really fair priced, maybe even on the low side. Def worth a visit

A nice meal after a visit to the Brewery cinema. We had the fresh mackerel fillets with pickles followed by the lamb and the slow cooked beef. Both very good and imaginatively prepared. The fresh mackerel and pickle combination was particularity good. One small point, the roast jersey royals were dry and overcooked. (Jerseys are not what they were but may have been better boiled.) Really nice truffle chips. Good choice of drinks - I had the Black Sheep bitter. Very attentive and friendly service.

The food we had was outstanding! So much attention to detail and care. Great service and a lovely atmosphere. We were greeted with a warm welcome, and that quality of the service and food continued all throughout our visit. High quality ingredients are used in the dishes and the flavours are well thought about.

A warm welcome, show upstairs which is a very pleasent space, great menu, well presented and tasted scrummy. Service pleasent - well done Ben. Wine reasonably priced and good quality. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Moon. Service was wonderful as always and the food was just delightful! Nearly put my yorkshire puddings to shame! Thank you so much Helen and Leon!

My hubby and I are foodies, visiting the Lakes for holiday, we saved this meal out as a finale to our trip. The food was utterly delicious, I could feel the Chef’s passion in every bite. My husband had fresh mackerel fillet and pickled veg for starter, I had the mushroom soup with focaccia (I make specialty focaccias myself, the taste of this Chefs focaccia was soooooo good) fresh, so full flavour. Our mains; spiced cauliflower and pan roasted cod in mild curry sauce, well both dishes a knock out!!!! Excellence followed through with our desserts, eating here made us so happy. Being what was our last night and such amazing food got me all emotional. The staff were very friendly, and helpful. If you’re looking for something special, Moon at Highgate gets the Gorry award for best taste, place to eat in Kendal. Thank you ❤️

The chef is fantastic. Service needs work….staff extremely in-experienced. It was our wedding anniversary night, and there was only us and another table there. I had salmon starter and cod main, both lovely. Husband had pate and ox cheeks. It was almost as if a different chef had made his courses - very basic, and not a patch on my food. Chips were brilliant. Waitress was very under-confident and needed to leave the bar and give her nose a good blow rather than sniffing noisily for the duration of our meal. Despite all this, I had a great tasting meal with my menu choices, chef perhaps just needs to tweak the ox cheek and pâté course presentation to make them a bit more refined?

Visited here for Valentines Day and were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the food was extremely well prepared. I chose the Ox Cheek and my partner had the cod - both dishes were delicious. It is clearly a popular place and we could see why. We felt for the staff because it seemed like the couple on the adjacent table did a runner after they ate their meal! That's a no-no and very disrespectful. I hope they got caught! Would definitely return if I find myself back in Kendal

You would have to do a lot of global travel to find anywhere that serves food of this quality. Best food I've tasted in a long time and its right here in "little old Kendal" Couldn't recommend it more to visitors and locals alike.

I have the prawn broth with the beef roast dinner and it was almost at the beach was a bit on the row side But overall very nice experience and it was nice to revisit it how it is now and that used to work there

What a wonderful meal out we had. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Our party was keen to take our time and spread our 4 courses over the space of two hours. At no point did we feel rushed by the staff and the result was an A+ experience. We shared a great light focaccia with garlic aioli to start, then had the duck parfait and smoked salmon starters which were excellent. For mains we all enjoyed the loin of lamb, which was outstanding. Sticky toffee pudding, coffees and whisky all followed to delight. All in an outstanding way to see out the year.

We had a fantastic meal here as a pre-Christmas treat. The most amazing focaccia to nibble on while we waited for our meal. Two of our party had the shin of beef which they thoroughly enjoyed. I had the roasted cauliflower which was delicious. For desert I had the chocolate tart with clementine ice cream...sublime. Drinks were a little pricey, but overall opinion is that we will be back. Best meal out in a very long time. Well done to your team.

We had a super evening with great service and excellent food at a modest price. Chairs could be higher though as I had to offer my partner some cushions and the heating could go up a notch.

So this is a really difficult time for the hospitality trade but that in no way means that I’m painting this experience with rose tinted glasses.We had what we feel is the best take away ever.I had the venison carpaccio (see Instagram) to start with. My partner had the Arancinni - what a brilliants taste sensation. But that was nothing compared to the mains. We had the cod and the meatballs.We’ve eaten at the Moon before but it was a leap to go for the takeaway.The owners have done a magnificent job - there’s care attention to details - the food doesn’t lose anything by coming home - it was a real lockdown treat - thank you.

Tuve un entrante mackeral fresco y vigorizante y un plato principal de bacalao asado con puerro y champiñones que era tan bueno como cualquier cosa que haya comido durante todo el año. Las patatas fritas estaban crujientes y deliciosas y compartimos un pudín de tarta de manzana crumble que hizo exactamente lo que se requería.House White era una botella agradable de sauv blanc a los 18 y la factura completa, aunque no es barata, tiene una buena relación calidad-precio por la calidad de la cocina.Vinimos un sábado y debido a las restricciones de covid, el lugar se estaba cerrando alrededor de las 9 pm, los dedos cruzados para que sobrevivan a la crisis y podamos disfrutar aquí de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en Kendal.

Tuve una comida maravillosa aquí anoche para el cumpleaños de mi esposo. El servicio fue fantástico de principio a fin. Para empezar, teníamos pan de masa madre y mantequilla casera con sal marina. El pan estaba delicioso y tibio. Tan sabroso. Ambos tuvimos la caballa como entrante. Este fue absolutamente delicioso y definitivamente mi plato favorito. Tan fresco y delicioso. Luego comí el pollo. El pollo estaba perfectamente cocinado tan suave, tierno y delicioso. Mi marido tenía el cerdo y dijo que era encantador. Lamentablemente, no teníamos espacio para un pudín, pero nos encantaría probar uno al lado de la casa. Gracias por una hermosa experiencia gastronómica. Nuestro primero desde febrero y se sintió muy especial.

Vine aquí para mi cumpleaños número 30 y disfruté muchísimo de los 3 platos que tuve; parfait de hígado de pollo; perdiz y cereliac con chips de parmesano y trufa: tarta de pera y sorbete de chocolate. Estaba absolutamente lleno cuando me fui, pero terminé todo. Estaba con dos vegetarianos que también lo disfrutaron mucho, buenas opciones vegetarianas.

Originalmente reservamos el restaurante ya que se veía mejor en la zona, aunque si hubiéramos sabido los precios y las cantidades, ¡no hubiéramos elegido este!El entorno era bastante agradable y la camarera nos recibió en la puerta. Sin embargo, estábamos en un asiento estrecho y la gente pasaba constantemente.Sin embargo, cuando se trataba de ordenar, nos dimos cuenta de lo cara que era la comida, lo cual estaría bien, excepto que el tamaño de las porciones era ridículamente pequeño. Mi novio pidió el pollo, que eran 4 rebanadas de pollo (¡ni siquiera una pechuga entera!) Y yo pedí los ñoquis, ¡y no había más de 10 piezas de ñoquis! El pollo tenía 24 y los ñoquis, 16. Admito que los ñoquis eran buenos, ¡pero no valían 16!

Lugar pequeño pero también tiene espacio en el piso de arriba. Tanto el menú como la lista de vinos son limitados, lo que creo que da una indicación de que los propietarios / chef dan importancia a los ingredientes locales y a cocinar bien algunas cosas. Los camareros eran alegres y nuestra mesa estaba adecuadamente espaciada de las demás para cumplir con las pautas de CV 19. Entrante de carrilleras de rape: delicioso, lomo de bacalao principal, también hermoso y de buen tamaño. Tenía espacio para un pudín de caramelo pegajoso y estaba satisfecho con la proporción de esponja / salsa que a menudo es tacaña en la salsa. Muy feliz. El Viognier era muy razonable y sabroso, sin duda volvería.

Llegamos temprano a Kendal, así que pregunté si podíamos cenar una hora antes de nuestra reserva y pudieron acomodarnos de manera segura a pesar de las condiciones de Covid.Compartimos la focaccia de tomate y romero recién horneada, que fue fantástica.Teníamos las carrilleras de rape y la sopa del día como entrantes, ambos muy sabrosos. Luego, dos platos principales increíbles, salmón, patatas nuevas, hinojo y frijoles. También los ñoquis de patata con una guarnición de zanahorias asadas glaseadas con arce. Lo único que lamento fue estar demasiado lleno para probar un postre. Todo por un precio muy razonable dada la calidad. Altamente recomendado.

Managed to get a cancellation, so pleased we did. The food was incredible. I hope the chef is getting paid enough! Similar quality to the Scarlet hotel in Cornwall which charges 3 x as much. Polite unobtrusive service. A really lovely place to eat and relax.

A really pleasant experience in a beautiful restaurant. Main beef meal was exceptional and melted in the mouth. Starters and desert whilst very good, could just be bigger in portion size. The Moon Highgate is located on Highgate in Kendal, and is a shade under three quarters of a mile fromthe station on foot.We had booked a table on a Friday evening via e-mail as the restaurant had not long opened after lockdown restrictions.I had a crab and peach starter, confit of chicken for main course and local cheese for dessert.All were excellent. The crab was delicious although a little expensive ; the chicken dish was equally good, similar to a cassoulet with beans and sausage ; the three cheeses really nice as well, although I could have done with more of them !To drink, I had an elderflower gin & tonic, a bottle of Viognier and an Irish coffee. All very palatable.The service was really good and we thoroughly enjoyed the nice atmosphere in the restaurant.The cost for four was around £160 which was good value for the quality of the food and drink.

Kendal was our first trip with Alfie, our Cockapoo puppy. It was also our first trip post COVID lockdown. We went to Kendal with little expectation food wise; after all there aren’t too many top class restaurants that allow you to have your dog under the table! We indeed had some pub food which was decent, and fulfilling enough. The Moon, however, gave us faith that we can have our dog AND top class food. I like my bread, and as I’ve suggested in previous reviews, I think it can be a pointer to just how much a restaurant actually cares. The Sourdough here, along with the beautiful whipped butter, bought a smile to my face. This smile turned more to a grin when I had my first taste of my starter; a wonderfully balanced pea and wild garlic soup. Great start. My main bought me blade of beef; a choice I’m sometimes a little wary of as it can get a little dry. This wasn’t. Either was the beautiful potato terrine, which with the truffle and red wine sauce and perfect caramelised onions, shone a culinary light on the tender, moist beef. I could wax lyrical for much longer. A certain organisation gives ‘stars’ out to restaurants which it perceives may be worth a trip away. We’re certainly coming back; the trips booked already. Sadly my personal ‘stars’ are of slightly less value..Highly recommended.

We visited on the day The Moon re-opened after lockdown and glad to say we were treated to a lovely experience! The food itself was wonderfully presented, and highlights included the isle of wight tomato salad, the hake and the canneloni. The staff were very friendly too and service was generally good.

I just love it! I have been a few times recently and each time the food has been beautiful. Kendal lacks really 'nice' restaurants and this is one of the few, if not the only, one in Kendal. The vegetarian/vegan options are always delicious, with a good choice, I never feel like an afterthought, which is sadly the case in many restaurants. The staff are always welcoming and efficient. It's fabulous!

What a absolute gem. We just couldn’t fault a thing. Food was delicious and well presented. The service was faultless, they even made a gorgeous cake for my birthday. We will definitely be returning

I went to The Moon to celebrate Valentines and it was amazing. They have a small menu however can cater for gluten free and vegetarians/ vegans which is amazing. Great selection of wines. Highly recommended! Book to avoid disappointment

An early evening Valentine’s Day meal before a gig at the Brewery Arts Centre. Excellent service and superb food. Starters of pressed ham hock and caramelised goat’s cheese followed by mains of Skrei cod and Lowther Park venison with faggot. Desserts were Yorkshire rhubarb parfait. All beautifully cooked and presented. We’ll be back!

My husband chose this restaurant for our Valentine’s meal. I didn’t really fancy anything on the main course section. There were two vegetarian dishes to choose from or Venison, cod and steak, I did not fancy any so I chose Sea-bass from the starter menu. You have to pay extra for potatoes and veg, although the steak has some veg on the plate. We did not have any deserts as my husband was full, however at £7 each I thought that was a little too steep. Four cheeses and biscuits are £10. The staff were very attentive and the restaurant was really lovely and very relaxed, We had coffee accompanied with a hand made chocolate each. On our exit I was given a box with two delicious hand made chocolates in it.

Having fairly recently moved to Kendal we're over The Moon to have found this fab restaurant. We had been recommended it by quite a few of the locals, so we were expecting great things, and we weren't disappointed. The location is great, being central to Kendal. If you're going to a show at The Brewery Arts Centre, as we were, the location is ideal as it is directly opposite The Brewery. We had a warm welcome from friendly staff, and chose to sit upstairs which manages to mix a contemporary style into a very traditional building very well. Service was prompt, without feeling rushed, throughout our meal. I started with the crab and blood orange salad which was really light and delicious, with a dressing that had a decent kick of horseradish to it. My husband had the soup which he also enjoyed.We then both decided to indulge in the steak, and were so glad we did.We do like a good steak and since moving to Cumbria, it may seem odd, but we've actually struggled to find any really beefy, well hung steak - but this was superb! Beautifully cooked and really flavoursome. So much so that we asked who the supplier was, and it turned out he was a local farmer who was also in dining that night! We finished with affogato - one of my favourite desserts.The Moon is, we would suggest, a special occasion restaurant, as the prices aren't everyday, but neither is the food. We would happily recommend it and will certainly revisit in the future.

We went to The Moon for my Birthday meal a couple of weeks ago. It was brilliant. The staff were extremely helpful, the food was delicious and my Birthday Cake was made by the chefs and it was perfect. Its a lovely setting and we had a brilliant night. I would highly recommend.

Paid our second visit to The Moon recently, and it was even better than the first - which itself was excellent.

We went to the moon for a family celebration. Lovely restaurant fab food welcoming atmosphere with really friendly staff , what more could you want . Got an amazing birthday cake sorted for me so all in all a really great night . The moon is a fab restaurant and would certainly recommend

As usual the food was good and my daughter who is Coeliac and Lactose intollerant (Glucose and Dairy free) was well catered for. However it was very busy and service was exceedingly slow

I went with friends and opted to go vegetarian - carrot and chickpea pancakes , mushroom rigatoni and then sticky toffee pudding .All the courses were very acceptable and the Corbieres wine I chose to drink with my meal was particularly good . The staff were welcoming and friendly and at just under £35 my meal was very good value .

Small welcoming restaurant very close to Kendal Theatre. Food choices were good and very tasty. Well presented and would highly recommend. The waitress put the fire on in the upstairs part of the restaurant which was well received. Staff very polite and efficient. It was a joy to eat there. Would definitely go back in a heartbeat when next in the area.

Had a beautiful meal here on Saturday night.We are a couple.The restaurant was very busy-always a good sign.We had a table upstairs-it was very pleasant.Staff were without exception extremely professional and pleasant.Every dish was sublime-all cookedto absolute perfection.The flavours were outstanding.I had a Stilton cheese custard starter and I was a bit apprehensive-it was fantastic.I had a vegan cauliflower spicey main course-so tasty.I had a crumble,it all tasted very homemade.The coffee came with home made chocolates.All in all one of the most fantastic meals I have ever had.The Chef is a superstar and the Head waitress constantly checked we were happy and OK.Absolutely out of this world.

Rose liked her Duck and all the vegetables perfectly cooked and interestingly flavoured I had the nicest tofu ever. And I live tofu and often have it. Decent sized portions. Nice Ambience. We sat next to the open (gas) fire upstairs. Well done.

Tenía 3 platos de deliciosa comida: entrante de ensalada de remolacha, coliflor asada con cebolla crujiente y aderezo y acompañamiento de papa / ajo, seguido de crumble de manzana y nuez con helado y crema (crema inglesa). Tamaño y calidad de la porción excelentes para un gran apetito que no se consume en exceso.

Una comida increíble por un precio decente. Bellamente creativo pero suficiente. Encantadora mezcla de ingredientes y comida maravillosa tanto para los carnívoros como para los vegetarianos. Súper ambiente también con personal servicial: el único problema es la altura de las sillas con respecto a las mesas, ¡pero proporcionan cojines! Buen tiempo. Definitivamente volveré, pero evitaré el cóctel de zarza-ginebra, muy amargo, solo una mala elección en toda la noche. Buena lista de vinos y muy relajante.

This is a really great restaurant. Good atmosphere, imaginative menu and excellent food and wine. A real find. The staff were helpful and the portions generous. We had a lovely friendly evening there. Service wasn't speedy, but then we werrn't in a hurry.
