Urban Food House in South Lakeland

It has a nice vibe but unfortunately the food didn’t hit the mark. Would try again! Staff are friendly. Could have just been a bad day.

Such a great evening. The food was excellent and the menu had a large variety. All the staff were very friendly and the service was great.

Had a brilliant midweek supper. We all ordered different meals and nothing fell short. Steak, Monkfish, lamb….delicious. We never got the gentleman’s name serving us, he was excellent. Small touches like opening the door when people leave. If back in the area would definitely revisit.

Attended with our family whilst on holiday. Lovely food! Lovely staff! Unique decor! Would thoroughly recommend and definitely go again.

What a lovely welcome we had. When we got to the restaurant on the off chance they had a table they made clear that there was a bit of a wait for food but they were so welcoming we were happy to wait with a drink. As it turned out the wait wasn’t as long as we had been expecting and our food (mussels and a pizza) was delicious. The staff were considerate, attentive, and very good humoured. If this restaurant was anywhere near us, we’d probably bankrupt ourselves working through its varied and enticing menu. Clearly excellent and good humoured work going on in the kitchen too, which we could tell through the service hatch. A really good mix of quality and affordability compared to other places in town, too. We’ll definitely head straight there if we visit again.

Urban food house is a great place to have lunch. The burger I had was delicious, it’s dog friendly and the prices are nice!

We wanted somewhere close to our accommodation for an evening meal and came across this restaurant. The food was very nice, but there was a limited menu due to a very busy Friday and Saturday that weekend. The draught lager ran out unfortunately and the poor front of house lady was rushing around trying to do everything, but she did cope rather well.

A lovely welcoming cafe with really delicious food, we enjoyed the french toast and veggie hash. Drinks were nice too, children enjoyed their smoothies.

Every time I come to the Urban Food house I get a warm welcome. The food is excellent especially the lamb. Very tasty would highly recommend.

Delicious food and excellent hospitality. We ended up having 3 courses because were enjoying the food too much. After staying 3 days in the area, this was the best place. Everything was cooked perfectly and service was great; attentive without being too much. Thank you.

Really didn't expect to be hit with a 45p "discretionary" tip on top of my already pricy ,3.50, lukewarm and smaller than usual, flat white. When you simply pop in for a drink you don't tend to look for such extras as these " tips"...

Stopped off in a very rainy day, warm welcome by the staff and excellent service all round. Ordered the Full Urban Breakfast on the back of seeing one home out of the kitchen and was not disappointed. Quality produce, back bacon, sausage pattie, field mushroom, beans, black pudding, hash brown, poached eggs, tomato and sourdough toast. Delicious. Would definitely recommend.

What a great experience we had last night. Lovely menu, service excellent and the quality is superb. One of the best meals we’ve had in the UK.

Pre booked a table for brunch whilst in bowness celebrating my husbands 40th. Gorgeous little place with friendly welcoming staff Food was delish so much so we returned the next day before heading home. We recommend a visit if you are staying bowness.

Called in again following our visit earlier in the year. Obviously quieter and we took a table in the main part of the restaurant.Good service and interesting decor.I had the bacon and egg on Sourdough and it was delicious.One of our party had the veggie brek I'd had on my last visit and was a bit disappointed. Dry Sourdough doesn't really go with everything and tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, beans, hash brown and Hallouni is one of them. It's a little overpriced too at 9.Overall this is a place I like to eat and we'll be back again in the new year for sure.

Amazing restaurant. We have walked past this place several times and it always looks good. A list minute choice due to the recent New Year lockdown, we were not disappointed. On a bitterly cold night outside, it was warm with a good atmosphere, great service and the food was amazing...relatively simple dishes but fantastic flavours and superb attention to presentation and detail. We’ll definitely go back and I highly recommend this place.

Lovely bistro in central Bowness. Fantastic selection of wine and cocktails. I had the crap to start and then the cod with beetroot gnocchi! Really tasty food and the owner is lovely. Great place looking forward to returning.

Popped in for a quick dinner Sunday evening. Cool restaurant, nice staff and we both had really very good burgers(one standard, one with bacon and cheese) Clearly homemade or from a very good butchers. Very juicy and tasty. Good fries too!

Delicious Lunchtime Food and great service .... the spicy lamb flatbread and fish finger butty is what we ate but everything looked lovely

There was lots to choose from on the menu. We got the hummus and sourdough and the crab arancini to start, they were both delicious. My boyfriend had the beef cheeks which were cooked to perfection, they literally fell apart! I had the mussels which were to die for. I couldn’t choose which cocktail i wanted and asked the waiter for a fruity cocktail, he made one specially for me which was amazing and just what i wanted! Amazing service, amazing food, 10/10 would recommend.

Came here for desserts and hot drinks, what I really loved about this place was it was warm, cosy and hygienic. Staff were friendly. They dessert we got was tasty and the drinks were great too! Ice cream was delicious too! Would definitely go again as it was a lovely atmosphere and cosy too! Would 100% visit here again!

Urban food house is local to us, so we have been a few times now, both as a couple and as a large group. The food is great, very well priced and the service is always fantastic. It was great to see Tim Keenan there, and have a catch up, and the other chap working with him is always smiley and attentive. They also seem to manage COVID safety really well which is a plus at the moment! Definitely give it a go!

We called in with our old boy for a lunch stop on Monday. Great standards regarding covid, lovely service and food amazing. My hubby had the burger which was stunnig and i had the flat bread with goats cheese, beet, rocket, pesto etc..... very very tasty 100% recomend

IBF has an imaginative menu, a good vibe, and welcoming staff. It is a favourite of ours as it feels like a treat that is different.

We recently visited Urban Food House in Bowness on Windermere for a family evening meal. There were 4 of us, 2 adults, one 8 year old and one 20 month old. There is a really nice / cool vibe to the place, it feels new, the staff were really friendly ( the owner was there working which was nice ) and the food was epic. We loved it so much that we went back the day after from brunch - which was equally as epic - it was up there with the best breakfast / brunch we've ever had. A must visit place if eating out in Bowness / Windermere / Ambleside area. Thank you team Urban Food House.

This was our first stop when we arrived in Bowness and was the perfect spot for lunch. It's a lovely cafe/restaurant with a great atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food lovely. My partner and I both had the Moules Frites.

After the sheer horror of Bodega (see previous review) we were happy to step into the welcoming tranquility of Urban Food House. We were greeted quickly and shown to a lovely table in the window to watch the world go by. We both ordered the full English and it was FULL and hearty. Absolutely delicious The staff were attentive throughout and the place was busy - clearly a sign of a great place. Definitely recommend here!!

Myself and my partner had food here for our anniversary and the service was spectacular. The restaurant served amazing food and the atmosphere was extremely welcoming. We can’t wait to return next year!! Highly recommended.

Genuinely the best meal my partner and I had whilst away in the Lake District. Very modern, cosy interior, friendly staff who were not shy to go the extra mile. My partner is gluten intolerant and was more than catered for! With plenty of options for her, as well as separate vegan and vegetarian menus. I never leave reviews but I feel this place deserves it!! Great food and drink at a fair price.

Delicious fresh unpretentious food in a relaxed atmosphere. And they let us bring our dog - a bonus. Tasty teriyaki sea bass and beef cheeks. Good portion sizes and tasty puddings. I’d eat here again.

Lovely little restaurant - we had 3 courses here all delicious and reasonably priced. They seemed a bit short staffed / run off their feet but once you had hold of someone the service was brilliant & food came quickly. Perfect for couples, friends & family.

Very cosy and cute restaurant, with a small menu done really really well. Steak and burger were amazing, and puddings were great too. Calamari with no grease! Friendly staff and would definitely recommend and return if we are in Lakes again.

Ate here for both lunch and dinner during our trip to Bowness. Both meals were very nice, good selection for vegan and vegetarian. The pizza was delicious. Service was good, the guys serving were very friendly and didn’t have to wait too long for food.Nice atmosphere, would recommend if you are in the area.

We ended up here slightly randomly but we were well looked after by the staff and the food surpassed all expectations. The muscles I had were the best I’ve had in years, my wife’s steak & our starters were equally good. All in a great experience and we look forward to returning.

Very diverse and interesting menu, but the food does not rise to the challenge .. it is not bad but not particularly tasty either. The ambiance is very nice for non Covid days but a bit too ‘cosy’ for covid days.

Because of Covid we booked here without having been able to look around, we booked on the strength of the Tripadvisor reviews. We were really disappointed. I ordered the breakfast and everything looked like it had been microwaved. The hash brown was nice, cooked the traditional American way. They brought toast but I had to ask for butter. We asked for Ketchup and they brought one table spoon serving for a table of 4. My wife ordered the Lamb wrap but didn't finish it because it was too dry.

Love this place ...even with covid restrictions always a good atmosphere and the food is fabulous. The only downside is a limited menu but otherwise lovely friendly staff and excellent food!

Booked in for dinner on a Thursday evening, seems like booking was a good idea as we saw a few walk ins getting turned away. Everything was amazing, the menu was relatively small but every thing on there sounds amazing and on the night we went there were also 3 specials to choose from. We had the calamari and the mushroom risotto for starters, both were delicious! And the beef burger and chicken burger for mains, both generous portions and the chicken was some of the best either of us had ever so strongly recommend. They also had a good selection of cocktails to choose from which didn’t seem too expensive. The service was lovely and very attentive with everyone seeming to take COVID precautions very seriously.

Lovely little place this, found it walking down the road to the ice cream shop, polite staff, good selection of drinks, food wasn’t bad, had to wait quite a while for it though that was the only thing.

We fell in love with this place as soon as we saw it and we were greeted gladly. We ordered food and drinks. My burger was delicious and so full of flavour you can tell is local and fresh. My friends loved the french fries. The staff so friendly and happy to help. The props nice too. Highly recommending this gorgeous place just a couple of minutes from the docks.

We visited this restaurant purely on the basis of driving through and thinking it looked funky! We were extremely impressed with what we were presented with. The venue is great, clean, comfortable and quirky. The food was outstanding. Tastes were impeccable. Good size portions whilst concentrating on quality. The service was just us good. Our waiter was chatty, knowledgeable and showed a genuine interest in us as guests. Very impressed all round and would recommend to anyone for an evening of good food, drink and service.

Have eyeballed this place on multiple visits, but never made it. We booked it last night for tonight. Simple menu, with decent variety. hummous and olives to start...bit bland and not worth the £9. But served promptly.Cheeseburger main was decent, though disappointed with the small coleslaw. Did mention it and got a top up, hate it when they take the Mick (or try). GF had the vegan pizza different....asked for her thoughts,she said 'different'...id call it bland.Pina colada was great and can't complain about the peroni.Also ended up with the 2-seater beside the door ..f##king chilly. Had to shift the table on the sly to get a wind shield. Couple just came by for a drink...8.50pm. staff said 'we are closed'. Disappointing. Won't be rushing back.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at Urban Food House in Bowness. It was our last dinner in town before heading back to London. The restaurant is very cozy with a touch of modern style, and it is much bigger than what it looks like from the outside. We were welcomed by, I presume, the super friendly owner who lead us to our table downstairs where the kitchen is. Our food was vegetarian/vegan and was absolutely yummy and well presented. The service was also quick and attentive. The couple sitting next to us had an adorable dog so we can attest the place is pet friendly (the dog was given a comfy little rug to rest on!). At the end of our dinner we noticed our bill missed the dessert we ordered and much to our surprise, the owner didn't let us pay for it! He also stopped to chat after we paid, telling us a bit about himself and the business. Definitely recommended!!

I'd have taken photos but the food was too good to wait. Wonderfully quick and friendly service. We were seated near enough the service hatch to see everything coming out - it all looked incredible. Had the chicken burger and the vegetarian curry, both delicious, one of the best burgers I've ever had. Decent pricing and a nice range of drinks too.

Ate at the Urban Food House on the first night of our stay as it is close to where we were staying. Food was delicious and fresh. Service was fabulous and the atmosphere was great.

Beautiful food and cocktails. best evening food we have had all week in Bowness. The owner made an effort with our 2 year old daughter and the baby changing for our 7 month old was clean and easy to access. Would love to go again if only we had more time!

A great little cafe/restaurant with a varied menu available throughout the day. The vegan and veggie lunch options are excellent. The evening options looked equally mouthwatering. Service was quick and staff were very friendly.All COVID precautions taken seriously so never at any point felt unsafe.Would recommend to anyone, especially vegans or vegetarians.

Lunch visit with my sister and dogs! Welcoming, despite arriving 20 minutes before our booking. Helpful staff, clean and inviting restaurant, all very covid aware. Food was wonderful... moules frites for me, and the "shroom" for my sis! Nice wine and not over priced. Lenka looked after us very well indeed. We loved it and will be back. Reasonably priced, great food in a tourist hit location.

A lovely, quieter brunch spot with friendly staff and amazing food. The veggie breakfast was so delicious, in particular the hash browns, and I couldn't fault anything in the experience. My boyfriend had the meat-based breakfast and loved it too. We're quite picky with breakfasts and wouldn't normally leave reviews but this one was particularly good!

This was a last minute booking and am so glad we found it.Very funky and fun atmosphere, which made you feel really chilled.The seabass and lamb were outstanding. Could have eaten them again to be honest lol!Great food, great service, great venue.Highly recommend this place.

Myself and my girlfriend visited the Urban Food House in September 2020. The meal was excellent, the service was extremely quick and the food was fantastic. It is a limited menu but I am sure you will find something to eat! Thank you.

We enjoyed a family breakfast here. Vegetarian breakfast was great. Only drawback was that I felt value for money could be better by increasing portion size.

Short, reliable menu. Only strong dishes. Really good food, nice staff and cosy design. Recommend this restaurant if you don't want to spend much time to explore menus.

Came here for breakfast 22nd September and what a wonderful breakfast and experience we had. Dog friendly for starters so no sitting outside. Staff were marvellous too. Breakfast as I said was wonderful. We ordered extra for our dogs and they even brought it out on a separate plate so we could cut it up. I like to add I did feed the dogs from hands and not the plate . Well done guys AMAZING

Me and my husband visited for lunch on Tuesday 23rd September following a stroll around Ambleside. Despite us not having a booking, the waiter was very accommodating in finding us a table straight away. It was busy when we arrived however our orders were taken quickly and food arrived within a reasonable time for a busy lunch time period. I had moules frittes which was delightful, the black bean and soy sauce was delicious, would highly recommend. My husband had the pulled pork flat bread which said the taste was lovely however it was only luke warm but decided against raising this due to our time constraints and overall it didn't spoil his meal. We only had two little complaints. Firstly, we had to bear witness to the kitchen staff being incredibly rude to the waiter which hugely affected the atmosphere. It was very uncomfortable and also on one occasion we could hear (we assumed the chef) using quite foul language from the kitchen. It was a shame and we don't know the circumstances surrounding the disagreement but the waiter and waitress never stopped during our visit and always kept a smile on their faces. Which leads we onto my second complaint, waiters were not wearing any facial PPE which in the current climate you would expect them to be, espically as social distancing wasn't being well adhered to. All in all a good visit, sadly tainted mainly by the attitude of the chef (who we always witnessed ignoring people who were directly complimenting his food). However we would visit again if we felt it was more covid secure as the food was lovely and the waiter and waitress were amazing.

We came in for breakfast was as a table of four all covid regulations was kept with track and trace in place, the service was very good, was slight wait for the food but no issue as they just opened and was busy however the food was very good standard one the best breakfasts had for a long time will defiantly recommend this place and be back

So good we visited twice during our holiday, once for breakfast and once in the evening. Food was excellent on both visits, staff very friendly and attentive. Hard to fault!

Booked here on a whim as my vegetarian partner spotted a risotto that looked interesting. As any vegetarian would know, mushroom risotto is the standard dish on a menu. In her words, the risotto at Urban Food house was "not a token risotto". She loved it and wanted to come back again, alas no booking space! The rest of the food was equally tasty, herb crusted lamb and sticky toffee pudding for example. The service was great, only 2 guys sorting about 12 tables and they didn't stop moving and yet were courteous and attentive and suggested a great Hungarian wine that my wine loving partner had never seen served anywhere before. Will certainly be back on our next trip to the Lakes.

Firstly I'd like to add I'm not the sort of person to leave a bad review, so was reluctant to type this,me and my partner are reasonable decent people, who don't look for fault foremost, but was very disappointed in The urban food house. It was about midday so me and my partner popped in to see if there was any tables available, was met with a frosty response to say the least, definitely detected a bad attitude from the male waiters instantly. Felt like we were begrudgingly seated like it was a chore. We waited well over 10 minutes for someone to come and take our order and again there was zero customer service, waiter could barely look me in the eye and was just unfriendly, which isn't nice. The food came out quickly and was sadly average, a bit bland for the price paid. Nobody came to the table and asked how our meal was, or cleared plates despite being in there for an hour. We could hear the kitchen staff using profanities whilst talking to one of the waiters at the serving hatch very clearly , even though there was children present, which was inappropriate and unprofessional. Finally after being ignored went to pay by the tills and again the customer service skills were poor, also noticed none of the waiter staff wearing masks or protective shields? , which was unusual in this new covid aware world.

Delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. We’d recommend the beef burger and the chocolate truffle pudding which were both amazing! The owner was friendly and chatty, and the staff were very attentive. It was perfect for a romantic meal.

The quality of food and drink were of good standard. Unfortunately we were unable to relax during this experience as high volume of flies were present which disturbed our meal and our relaxed approach. Open kitchen of food laid out which flies were present. Noticed fellow customers were waffling flies away like ourselves. Such a shame because the food was lovely.

Visited this restaurant this afternoon and decided to stop for lunch. We ordered 1 mussels and one fish finger sandwich. We wanted a loaded fries and as each of our dishes came with fries, we asked if we could upgrade to loaded fries. We were told that we’d be charged normally which we said was fine. We also ordered a pint of lager, pint of ale and an orange juice and lemonade. The waiter brought us our drinks but a separate orange juice and lemonade and when we explained, put them into the same glass. The food arrived - nice portion of mussels and fries, cooked well. Fish finger sandwich without fries and the smallest portion of loaded fries I have ever seen, especially as they were £5 and my partner didn’t get his fries either. The fish finger sandwich was well cooked and tasty. Loaded fries were nothing to write home about. When finished, my partner went to pay and when he got back asked me how much I thought the bill should have been. I said around £32 and my guesses kept going up until he said £47.50. My jaw dropped and I said there must’ve been a mistake as they hadn’t given him an itemised bill. I went back in to ask to see the itemised bill when I was told that someone would have to come and do this and we would have to wait for this person to arrive. My partner was trying to explain to the waiter that we thought there’d been a mistake but he was rude, telling my partner to “not be like that”, even though he was being calm and friendly. When the manager or owner did arrive, he printed off the bill and it transpired that they had charged us for an extra pint, which at £5.30 is not insignificant. They had also charged us £5 for the OJ & lemonade as they’d “had to open the bottles”. Given then location, I.e. without a lake view, the drinks are overpriced. The Service was good until this point and although they gave us the money for the drink, they were not apologetic- given it was their mistake and the waiter had been rude to us - not the other way around. I would rather spend my money somewhere that commands premium drinks prices and wouldn’t recommend this restaurant after our experience.

This was the first time my husband and I had been out since February and we were highly delighted with our meal. Sea bass was cooked to perfection and my husband had the lamb which he said was delicious. Staff were friendly and will definitely return.
