Came for a long weekend with my parents and partner. Lovely spacious room, comfy bed and big bathroom. Did get quite warm but we were in one of the higher rooms so understandable. Breakfast was fantastic, eggs Benedict is my favourite and it was so yummy I had it 3 days in a row! The highlight was the Sunday roast. Huge Yorkshire pudding bigger than my head! We chose beef and lamb with all the trimmings of course. Divine - see pictures. Great stay and would definitely return when venturing back to the lakes! Thankyou x

It was quiet when we arrived at our pre booked time so we didn't know whether we had made a mistake choosing this restaurant. Our worries soon disappeared when the courteous staff showed us to our table and went through the menu and specials for us, even offering to make something for the unfortunate vegetarian after I asked about there only being three alternatives. The Nut Roast was simply delicious though as was the Chicken dish and the Sticky Toffee Pudding! Highly recommended restaurant with great service and great food.

We visited the Lamplighter Dining Rooms having typed in google "best Sunday lunches in Windermere" and we weren't disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days stay. Our room was clean and pleasant with all the amenities we required, James (owner and front of house) was very plesant and accommodating and went out of his way to ensure our Sunday lunch celebration was most enjoyable and memorable with everybody commenting that it was the best Sunday lunch they had ever had. All the staff gave superb service, and we are looking forward to returning.

Excellent restuarant. Great food and all staff were excellent, friendly, helpful & coutious. Lamb, Steak and Pork were delicious. And stickty toffee pudding was very tasty. James was excellent as i had to change our date for dinner. Don't like the dogs coming into dining room and toilets need bit of attention. Otherwise fab place to eat.

We had a reservation for 6, and arrived about five minutes early so we’re happy to wait when they sat us in a seating area waiting for our table. However, we spent the next fifteen minutes watching the staff prepare every table in the restaurant, clearing others, and seating a couple that walked in without a reservation. As they were served drinks and it got to 6.15, and we still hadn’t had a waiter say a further word to us let alone tell us our table was anywhere near to being ready, we left. Fortunately, Opa, the fabulous Greek restaurant a couple doors down were all too happy to take in customers. Bizarrely, they had no room at all but were kind enough to work out that a table was about to become free, if we could hold on a couple minutes - and proceeded to rush clearing a table to squeeze us in. It was a complete contrast in attitude and welcome to an almost empty but unwelcoming Lamplighter. I’d also note that for the time we spent not being served at Lamplighter, I managed to see enough of a really tired and sad decor - I had already apologised to my husband for his soulless it felt, so perhaps a good thing that they gave us an excuse to go to somewhere with real heart…

Coeliacs are welcome and catered for here. Staff understand the need for gluten free food and there are quite a few options on the dinner menu for us. A lovely place to eat with really nice staff who are attentive without being too close while eating! The food was lovely with good quality ingredients really well cooked. We will return to The Lamplighter when we are next in Windermere.

We reserved for dinner on a Sunday night given the number of places closed on that day of the week in town. The food and atmosphere was traditional and we had an enjoyable meal. They had some nice drink and wine options and I enjoyed by traditional prawn cocktail and fish and chips. Overall, just as you would expect of a dining room in a hotel; quiet with good traditional food choices.

Decided to eat here on our last night of our mini moon. We pre booked via website as we did try couple days before off the cuff but it was busy. The food was lovely, I had stuffed chicken breast and chocolate brownie and my husband had the lamb special of the day and sticky toffee pudding. We also had a bottle of wine. We're usually just a pub grub type but went for something a bit more special. We both said we enjoyed it.

This would have been a 5/5 if it wasn’t for the restaurants “dogs are welcome” policy. Dining room is nicely decorated, staff courteous and professional and food of an excellent quality and beautifully presented. What let’s this establishment down is the fact that you’re forced to share your dining experience with several dogs one of which urinated on the floor during our meal. Both my partner and I are animal lovers but really feel a restaurant of this calibre and price bracket is no place for animals. When exactly did this become ok or the norm that you can book a table in a nice restaurant where your bill is in excess of £50/70 per head and because others can’t bear to leave their animal for a couple of hours we’re subjected to whimpering, growling and in our case peeing near our table. We watched fellow diners pet and stroke their dogs, wipe dribble from their mouths then use condiments others will unknowingly use straight after them. Indoor restaurants are no place for animals and I feel sorry for establishments like this that probably feel held to ransom on such policies with so many now refusing to leave home without them. Unfortunately until such a change I wouldn’t recommend it nor return.

We stayed for one night in a premier room, lovely big room which had everything we needed. A super spacious bathroom with both bath and overhead shower. Everything was spotlessly clean. The highlight of our stay was the food, absolutely incredible. We had dinner and breakfast and both meals were outstanding, I thoroughly recommend the chicken dish at dinner while my husband had the duo of pork which he said was fabulous. I also had a rhubarb and custard cocktail, tastes just as you think it would, brilliant concoction!!! Thank you for a very good stay indeed.

We visited as a family of four with two young children and could not recommend enough. The Lamplighter has benefitted from renovations to the dining area and was very comfortable with a great atmosphere. Throughout the evening, staff were polite, friendly and attentive and very welcoming. The food was delicious and clearly freshly cooked. My wife had battered fish and chips and myself, a curry. Both were very tasty and it was great to see that the childrens meals were also of a high standard, with the chicken goujons being chicken breast as opposed to processed meat. Portion sizes were very good too. We had a lovely evening and would highly recommend.

Let's start with dinner: The starters were all really good. The hummus was incredibly refreshing, and was an excellent starter. Some of the party had the parfait starter, and it seemed to go down incredibly well. My little sister enjoyed the bread (mostly because she was having some of my mother's parfait with the bread) and one of my brothers had a prawn starter. He was reluctant to share, but they were also good. The main courses were pretty good. They accommodated changed (and still produced aesthetically pleasing dishes). My sister and my brother's girlfriend swapped the peas on their fish and chips (and the carrots were incredibly tasty, orange and tarragon glazed I believe), and I swapped the croquettes for mash on the chicken breast. The scampi was good, and the tartare sauce was very refreshing. My little brother had a burger. He loves burgers and wasn't let down by this one, although we were pleasantly surprised by the battered gherkin ontop of the burger (although we did play a great guessing game of what was it?, with guessing including black pudding and a small sausage). My father's lamb ballotine was incredibly tender and the accoutrements were also enjoyable, although if you get mash, you may want some gravy for it. The dessert was very hyped up. My brothers had brownies. They clearly enjoyed it. My sister and I enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. The 'Thunder and Lightning' ice cream was honeycomb and was also enjoyable. The hotel was comfortable, although the twin bed room was way smaller than the double bed rooms. It was still perfectly comfortable in the twin bed rooms. Each room has a coffee machine. The breakfast was also good.

We were a group of 12 visiting for a 60th birthday for Sunday lunch. The bespoke food menu was what drew us all to the Lamplighter Dining Room initially as we’re all foodies. I contacted James prior to visiting and placed a pre-order on the Friday prior to our arrival. This was a first for us as it meant multiples of two or more people could choose their own cut of meat and how it was cooked. We received a warm welcome on arrival. Then we were shown to our own room to the rear of the restaurant, being such a large group. There was a great selection of wines and drinks for us to choose from too. We were offered a choice of two homemade soups to start which were both delicious. This was then followed by the main meal which included Leg of Lakeland Lamb; Roast Best End of Lamb; Roast Fillet of Lakeland Beef and Chicken. All accompanied with large quantities of vegetables, gravy and Yorkshire puddings. Everything was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of meat, even enough for a doggy bag. The staff were very attentive throughout and gave us a good amount of time before our puddings too. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal and found it a great experience. We would all definitely make a return visit.

Initially booked for the 1st night of our 2 night kiddie free break we had to cancel due to adverse weather conditions which impacted on our travel arrangements so we rebooked for the Sunday & so glad we did, from the exceptionally warm welcome, in a lovely atmosphere, taking in beautifully prepared & presented starters, Panko Coated King Prawns (so light) & Chicken Liver Parfait to a mouth watering main of Lakeland Lamb Special & Breast of Lakeland Chicken it was a wonderful evening out, given that ‘special’ feel by the impeccable attentiveness & attention to detail of Jeff (hope i’ve got the right spelling), just good old fashioned service that left us feeling we were the only ones there, on what was a fairly busy evening & for that I cannot thank him enough. Everyone needs to experience a Jeff at least once in their lives. So looking forward to the next time, whenever that may be.

Lovely place, small cosy hotel with amazing food and outstanding customer service. We have stayed at many of the expensive places in the area over the years and The Lamplighter has it all, great location, free parking, lovely comfortable rooms and amenities. We had a...

Felt uncomfortable and place was pretentious and food over priced - I was expecting a gastro pub really from the menu on trip advisor- Don’t think I would go back

Following some good feedback our daughter treated us to a Sunday lunch at this place. Upon arrival we were ushered into a dated room that could only be described as a 1950s railway station waiting room. It was bright, cold, quiet (we were the only...

We, a three, were persuaded by the great reviews. We all started with the pea soup which we all found delightful. Two of us (both bald) had delicious lamb dinners. Wonderful Lakeland lamb; creamy mashed potato; carrot crush and a dreamy gravy. We were thrilled!...

We had a fantastic stay and meal - the food was all really well cooked, great choice on the menu and the service was first class. Couldn’t really fault anything at all about the place and will definitely return in the future.

We were in Windermere for a long weekend, a group of 'girls' celebrating a special birthday. We chose the Lamplighter based on reviews and location, and it was the perfect choice. We were a large party, 13 of us, and James asked us to pre-order...

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

My husband and I were staying at the nearby county hotel and decided to call in for a coffee on the way into the shopping area. The coffee was great and the millionaires slice was lovely. Service was very good.
