We have just returned home after a lovely 2 night stay at the Queen's Head with our dog and would like to thank Mark and Sam and your team for the wonderful hospitality shown in your beautiful hotel. Everything was perfect. The little touches that your guests enjoy make this a really memorable place to stay. Often you find places who claim to be dog friendly are merely dog tolerant, however the Queen's Head is truly dog friendly. The huge dog friendly guest rooms are furnished and cleaned to a high standard. We enjoyed a varied and extensive breakfast menu and all evening meals were perfect as well. The variety of Robinson ales was much appreciated too. Many thanks from Jim, Karen and Darcy dog.... we will be back.

What a fantastic find! Everything about Queens Head from walking through the door was beyond expectations! A very warm welcome as soon as we walked in and shown to our fantastic comfortable, well equipped room. We had an evening meal that was delicious. I had the steak and ale pie, my partner had the beef roast dinner. Food was quick to be brought to us, which was fantastic as we were both starving and was glad of a good sized portion. Lots of drinks available to choose from we went with a Woo Woo cocktail and fizzy Blonde. A very restful night sleep in a comfortable bed, we didn't want to get up in the morning! The Queens Head definitely pays attention to the small details from the welcome pack to the gorgeous decor, everything about the place is just perfect! Lots of choice for breakfast, we went with warm pastries and fresh orange juice followed by a full English and a pot of tea. We are so glad we stumbled upon the Queens Head, we will be staying again in the near future on our next Alpaca buying expedition.

We’ve been here many times before for a drink or to eat but never stayed, we usually self cater. I absolutely loved it. The fixtures and fittings are all oak, some reclaimed, beautiful quality soft furnishings, quite luxurious. The crockery, toiletries, welcome pack for us and our dog all high quality and thoughtful. The staff were all great, it was very clean, breakfast was wonderful, lots of choice and Bailey enjoyed his sausage. we ate there both evenings and really enjoyed our meals. Oh and the apple crumble was to die for! We will definitely stay again. In fact, if the lighting in the bedroom and bathroom had been a little brighter I think it would have been perfect!

We booked online same day and arrived at the pub after a short drive from Ambleside on very dark roads. Plenty parking and a warm welcome once we arrived and our dog was fussed over. Great food choices, we went for fish and chips and the gammon. Large high quality portions and good speedy service. We were too full for puddings. When bill came there was 33% in Jan which was an unexpected bonus! Lovely clean pub with lots of traditional features.

I don’t usually write reviews however on this occasion I feel compelled to give feedback to Mark & Samantha & the team at the Queens Head. We chose to celebrate a milestone birthday at the Queens Head on personal recommendation & I am so glad that we did. From the moment we all arrived to the moment we left the friendliness & welcoming hospitality exceeded all our expectations. Nothing was to much trouble ensuring the whole party enjoyed their stay & birthday celebrations. I don’t think without Mark, Sam & especially Chloe the celebration would not have been as seamless as it was. Anyone think of visiting the Queens Head for either a drink, meal, overnight stay or even a celebration I would strongly recommend you do so. I can not praise the team highly enough & are please to share this feedback.

We both ordered the steak and ale pie one with chips and the other mash. Pies were delicious and full of meat and the vegetables were cooked perfectly and the chunky chips were lovely. Cosy pub (although the log fires weren’t on because they had been decommissioned) up on the hill in Troutbeck with some great views and seating outside in for in the summer.

The room was decorated beautifully was very clean and very cosy. Dinner in the evening was lovely and great value. Dylan espically loved the dog menu he was spoilt for chose. Breakfast the next morning was again great with plenty of choice and loved that the checkout time was 11am so you didn't feel rushed. Thank you for a lovely stay .

The rooms are finished to an immaculate standard and the food was excellent. We had evening dinner and breakfast, both of which we can’t fault. Special mention for it being one of the most dog friendly locations we’ve stayed with our Goldendoodle, Diego - he was treated so well by everyone and we couldn’t be more grateful. We will be back 😊

We booked a table online and paid £5 per head to reserve the table for Sat eve. Unfortunately, due to a family member feeling unwell, we had to cancel, which we did, a full 36hrs before the reservation on the Friday morning, before leaving for Windermere, so that they could at least fill that table if needed. We rang the Queens Head to say sorry for cancelling the evening reservation but we'd like to eat earlier and could we rebook for lunchtime instead The lady, should've got her name, said 'of course, what time' we said about 1pm and would the £20 already paid reserve the table? The lady replied 'No!' that money is now gone as we'd cancelled the later reservation!!! I beg your pardon, so we're still coming, just earlier in the day and this £20 won't be refunded against this earlier reservation we asked? No, you've cancelled, you've lost your £20 now. The lady then said, so, what time do you want to book for lunch? To that we replied, are you kidding? You've literally taken £20 from us for nothing and now you want us to waste even more of our hard earned money with you? No thank you, we'll take our money elsewhere in Windermere. We could understand if we were cancelling altogether but we weren't, just eating earlier on the same day!!! What an absolutely disgraceful policy the Queens Head has when you pay a deposit online and then need to amend it to a more suitable time. Shame on you Queens Head. At least Dick Turpin had the audacity to wear a mask when he robbed people. Do not book online folks as they will keep your money even when you want to change your reservation. In fact, if that's what they are like before you've even set for in the place, heaven help you should you have an issue with the service or food on the day.

We tried to dine here on the evening of my partner’s 30th birthday but were disappointed to find it was fully booked. We decided it was worth the journey to return the following evening (this time having booked ahead) and are very glad we did. We could see why it had been fully booked the evening before. The staff were welcoming and friendly and very attentive- we never had to look around once to find a member of staff. The setting is stunning, nestled in the fells and has a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Prices are steep but exactly what you’d expect these days and we tipped generously. The food was good and definitely the best meal we had in the Lake District although I felt it could have been better. I ordered the steak and ale pie with mashed potatoes and was slightly disappointed to see the veg accompaniment, it felt lacklustre. I would have liked to have seen roasted carrots and broccoli. This being said, the pie itself was delicious. My partner was disappointed with the options on the menu but opted for a burger which he said was nice and commented the relish was very good. I ordered the crumble for dessert with ice cream, the portion size of the crumble was generous but size of the ice cream did not match, I would have liked a little more ice cream to crumble ratio. Overall, we enjoyed our meals and will definitely be back in future on our next visit to the Lakes. Worth an off road detour!

We went as a party of four, two couples, for Sunday Lunch in mid August. This is a lovely pub/hotel set in the heart of the Lake District. We had booked for lunch in a dog friendly area. As we were a touch early we decided to have a drink on the terrace and enjoyed the views. They had an attractive selection of real ales, most were Robinsons. I had a pint of Cumbrian Way, the two 'girls' had a half of Dizzy Blond and a draught cider. My friend had a pint of Stout, it was remarkably similar to the world famous Irish stout but perhaps dryer and even better. We were shown to our seating area, a cozy booth. Out waitress was Amy, she was an absolute delight, a great big smile and genuinely keen to ensure all of our needs were met. We all had the Sunday roast although other choices were available. I had the beef which was nicely medium cooked. Served with a roast and mashed potatoes veg and a decent Yorkshire. The cauliflower cheese was an 'extra' but worth it. Everything was 'top-notch' thanks to everyone at the Queens Head with a special thanks to Amy.

Second time to the lakes this year and came here for my birthday and fell in love with the place. Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the Helvellyn room which is a lovely room only problem is a constant banging of a door which I can only imagine you can here from other rooms close by, I know they have explained in the description of this room that the room is above the kitchen and has noice and that they have shown this in the price of this room so i can’t really complain especially when we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room but for anyone who is wanting to spend more time in the room I would pay for one of there other rooms. Breakfast here I was very nice the give you a wide range of continental and cooked breakfast only downfall for my partner who loves his eggs was they were always a little bit underdone and snotty which I am sure if he had asked for them changed they would be more than happy to help. We only dined once in the evening and both had the mixed grill which was 10/10 amazing but to much for me to finish. Over all the place has a warm welcome atmosphere and we can not wait to come back here

We came here after being recommended and we were not disappointed. We came for Sunday lunch. We had a beef and a lamb, with an additional side of cauliflower cheese. All was really lovely (roasties could have done with a bit longer for some crisps if we wanted to be picky!) but could have had a bit more veg. We also had dessert, salted caramel cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. I'd never usually choose either but having tried both they were absolutely delicious! Service was exceptional. Very quick and attentive. Really felt we were looked after. We were in a separate room to the main restaurant which at first I was a little disappointed about but it was comfy and had a nice fire. Really good lunch overall and has beautiful views as an added bonus.

Got to be honest, we were very disappointed in the Sunday roast after having read the reviews. Lamb was shredded meat in gravy, piled on top of mashed potato to make it look like there was more meat than actually present. Yorkshire pudding barely warm, and overall portion size was small - few vegetables to match the small amount of meat. The food was tasty enough, but came away thinking that it was very overpriced for what we got. Won’t be returning.

Our party consisted of one couple and a baby plus another couple and two dogs in celebration of a birthday. We all liked our comfortable rooms with outstanding views and all the little extra touches which added up to a lot of careful thought making our stay relaxing. Dogs are very welcome and even had little gifts in the room waiting for them, the staff positioned us thoughtfully when eating as we had the two dogs and a pram to accommodate when seated. Fair pub grub. My cheese was burnt on my hunters chicken. The children only got 4 nuggets when the menus said 5 and one daughter got beans instead of the peas we ordered but this was rectified when I complained. Not very good though. The children’s menu did not have a price on it but it was reasonable. Nice atmosphere and the building is very characterful.
