We’d visited this pub some years ago for a drink so decided to call in again for tea. I’d read the reviews which sounded good, so Friday night called in to find busy lively pub. Ordered fish pie and steak and ale pie with a pint of Robinsons ale. The food was wonderful. The steak and ale pie was a straight TEN. Fish pie could have had more fish and prawns so an EIGHT. Good portions and great atmosphere. The place was buzzing, and you can see why. You have to wait for a table but it’s well worth waiting. All the food we could see looked fab. We’ll be back soon.

Went for dinner, staff polite with a good range of beer, with a couple of ciders on tap. Had the Lamb Henry, very taste and a very good portion with fresh veg. Two meals with ciders for £40 thought was a good price. Would recommend and return again if in area.

Such a lovely pub, cask ale is well pulled and creamy all the way down to the bottom of the pint. Never ate here but wished we did as the food looked absolutely gorgeous. Pub is quirky and most of the staff are pleasant and polite. I say most, I dropped one star for one lady working behind the bar (think it was the manager/owner). If you get asked "how you paying, card or cash?" and you opt for card, but you get a miffed response back about card payments. Ok I get they prefer cash payments, so why not put a sign up, or have minimum payments by card, or simply accept cash only instead of giving the customer the option to start with if card payments are annoying. All the other staff were not bothered by card payments by the way and accepted with a happy smile.

Myself and my wife had read the reviews about the quality and size of the meals at this establishment so we decided to try the ploughman's meal to share. When the food came it was amazing. There was everything you can think of and plenty enough for 2 to 3 people. The staff were so friendly especially the lady who served us and the food was exceptional. You can park just being the pub so it's a bonus and will definitely be returning one day. Thankyou to all of the staff, you made our weekend special.

Tucked away in the centre of Bowness on Windermere you will find the Hole In T’Wall. A lovely, character pub, with centuries of history. A wide range of meals & drinks are available for you to enjoy both inside or in the front beer garden. We enjoyed the Ploughman’s Lunch, one of my favourites, but if you have only a small appetite, you might want to consider sharing as it is vast! Thoroughly enjoyable with a variety of pickles, cheeses, pork pie, ham, salad & apple … Enjoy!

For many years this is my go to pub in Bowness. Arrived today on a damp day to find dogs not welcome inside. Sat outside and had a half for old times sake but wasn't going to order food. We have been coming here for years, and the food has always been good, great atmosphere and a lovely old Inn dating from the 1600's. Bar staff are friendly and efficient. The first night we had the steak pie which was lovely, so we went back and my wife had Lasagne, and I had the fish pie. Here's the bad news. The Lasagne was over smothered in tomato and didn't taste of much at all apart from Tomato. The Garlic bread was a joke as it appears to be a garlic wrap smothered in cheese, pretty foul. My Fish Pie was a joke, I gather it has to have fish in it, my didn't just a load of sloppy mash and 2 prawns, and way to much crumb on the top which was just foul, had to scrape it off, a joke quite frankly. You can do so much better!

Firstly what a cracking tap selection, for the first time in a long time I wasn't just making do. I was spoiled for choice! Went for the Westerns in the end, but would of been equally happy with the mulled cider, Neck Oil or Old Rosie. I got the sandwich and soup, again it didn't disappoint. Portions are made for hearty Northern Folk and filled me right up. The wife had a tuna sandwich, again solid portions. Atmosphere was brilliant with a roaring fire in the corner and plenty of taxidermy friends adoring the walls. Which I appreciated the wife not so much but it is all in keeping with being the oldest pub in town.

Fabulous meal here despite being slightly worried as had read a few negative reviews. The menu is imaginative and really well presented on the plate. Yes there are no fish dishes and only game or vegetarian but it wasn’t a problem in any way. Fabulous food and will definitely return.
