The Sun Hotel. in South Lakeland

Do NOT STAY in the family room room 12!! i checked in late with my 2 grandsons, bedding clean but.....see photos everything else is terrible, only 1 member of staff and she is on the bar. Too late and no spare rooms as its bank holiday. Will not have a shower until im home!

Lovely place, ideal for family, ample parking and good for people visiting windermere as it has parking and a really nice beer garden

Cracking local pub in amazing location central to the whole south lake. Ample parking. Petrol station and spar 2 min walk. Easy to find. Katie is a fresh lovely relaxing bar tender.

I’ve never written a bad review but unfortunately I think that it should be pointed out. I had reservation early May bank holiday on our way owner phoned to say it had to be cancelled as problems with boiler and no hot water. She said don’t worry she had cancelled with booking. Com so would have no charge. I HAVE BEEN CHARGED I tried contacting hotel … no answer! I contacted booking.com they too couldn’t contact owner. I have sent message to hotel and had no response. Booking . Com said they were shouted at by owner and need to wait for email confirmation that we did not stay at hotel. Until they received this there is nothing they can do. It cost me another stay in another hotel. All hotel’s contact details have been removed from socials etc so you cannot contact them. I’m a reasonable person and understand mistakes happen but something just doesn’t sit right.

The website said food served until 6pm on a Sunday, with a varied Sunday menu. We arrived 5.30 to be told the kitchens closed earlier. The menu was a way more limited than previously seen on line. Reluctantly they offered us turkey or pork, as all they had left. We chose to go elsewhere.

Really good pub food, The food was really nice and portions really really big. Great pint of Guinness too. Only down side was we were the only ones in there so was little atmosphere. Staff were welcoming and attentive.

Will never stay here again The rudest landlord ever , needs to go on a customer service course and understand how to speak and deal with customers . Surprised he has any customers at all gets very aggressive easily and will not listen to anyone else’s point of view . I see several other reviews saying similar on other sites Will never stay here again .

Visited the Sun Inn, troutbeck with family for dinner and were greeted with very friendly staff. Food arrived quickly and was great. Thoroughly enjoyed. Generous portions. They even brought a complimentary bowl out for the dog which was greatly received. All staff were accommodating and welcoming. Chatted about dogs and the area. Would definitely return again.

Our food was excellent really nice but unfortunately we felt the lady that served us the food and drink couldn’t really be bothered and wasn’t very helpful and at times we felt uncomfortable and didn’t really want to ask her for anything so it did put us off a bit.

If you are looking for somewhere reasonably priced for a meal this is the place to go. I was on holiday at a nearby caravan park and there were 10 of us. We booked here for the last evening of our week stay for dinner and the food and hospitality was second to none. Absolutely fantastic food freshly cooked and served with a very happy and kind service. Would go back if ever in the area again.

Met the two ladies who run the hotel, myself and my wife arrived with our dogs to such a warm welcome. Our room was excellent and the dogs settled in really quick. Down for breakfast the next morning, full english and boy i was full for the rest of the day. The dogs even got there breakfast every morning of bangers. I don't drink beer but Alex went out of her way to go to the pub up the road The Queens run by her wife Tash and got a box of Alcohol free beer for her to serve me from the hotel bar. We had to lovely evening meals there, can not fault there chef thank you. The hotel location is a brilliant base for the vast amount of walks around the area. Again thank you ladies so much for our lovely stay.

Me and my wife wanted a short stay and decided to go for a more economical option the sun hotel was a ten minute walk from Windermere perfect location! We were greeted by a lovely lady called Alex who couldn’t have been more accommodating Nothing was to much trouble for her and Natasha We decided that we would dine in house what fantastic food local produce cooked to perfection we will definitely be booking again !! The room was great we have stayed in hotels twice / three times the price and this beats them hands down Although it’s not perfect which we would expect to pay double or triple for we thought it fantastic value for money so have no doubts do yourself a favour and try it you won’t be disappointed It does what it says on the tin Thank you very much for a great stay Mike & Caroline

We arrived at the Sun Inn in good time to check Inn and was met with a very luke warm welcome from the owner if you can call it that. The hotel room was described as spacious king room which was everything but spacious also you could hear everything outside inside even though we checked the windows to see if they were partially open. The toliet bin was full of rubbish which had not been emptied before we arrived. We will not be returning.

Came here with our family for an evening meal and quite possibly one of the best experiences. The staff couldn’t do any more for us, the food is home made and unbelievable. I was recommended the steak and ale pie, full to the brim and didn’t disappoint. Very dog friendly, they came straight over with a treat which was a lovely touch. A hearty pub meal with fanatic service!

Came with a large party of 6 adults a child and a dog can’t fault the welcome and fantastic food , service great lots of choice portions were huge, food excellent quality fresh and well cooked . The steak was cooked to perfection. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all can’t recommend highly enough definitely 10/10 and will be back

I can’t believe anyone can get away with charging guests to stay in such a filthy, dusty and well-worn bedroom and mouldy ceilinged en-suite. From others review we knew the room would be noisy as the pub is right by the main Windermere to Ambleside road. And it was noisy! Unable to fully close the window meant early morning starts. The staff were very friendly serving breakfast, but due to covid restrictions, never once asked if we needed more milk, tea or coffee in the room. So we had to ask, along with change of towels and more loo rolls! No sanitary bin in the bathroom, and only one tiny bin for a few days so had to use a large carrier bag that we’d brought. Not a good impression and will certainly not be recommending it!

Just walked a mile to the Sun Inn for a drink and was told that they have just called last orders and were closing. This was 20.30 on Saturday night, I would have thought that this industry had suffered a lot this year and would be happy of the trade, the staff were setting the tables for breakfast and I got the impression that they were not bothered about new custom. Won’t be visiting again!!
