The best restaurants serving British food in South Lakeland North West

Proper pub. Dart board, pool table, pub dog (Parker, we love him) roaring fire., live music and lots of local people. A definite for pub lovers, not a chain and great fun

Stayed here and ate in the restaurant one evening. The service was very good, the portions very generous and the food of a very good standard.

Absolutely stunning Cafe and very dog friendly xxx - best (outstanding) coffee we've had so far - Scones exceptional - staff are fabulous - we would highly recommend a visit to Whinlatter forest and food in Cafe Ambio.

Queríamos terminar nuestro fin de semana en los lagos con una taza de té y un pastel de cumpleaños y habíamos oído hablar bien las habitaciones de té. Llegamos a las 3 de la tarde, nos dirigimos por dentro. La chica de la entrada nos sacó una entrega desinteresada vistazo ya que hay mucho que decir " ¿qué estás haciendo aquí? ". Me sonrió y me dijo "nos ha venido para un té" (es un té después de todo! ). Dijo que "se puede sentarse allí" que indiquen lo que parecía una zona de bar. Pedimos unos pasteles y dijo que "no hay - no hay comida". Su actitud resumió la experiencia. No había ninguna información, menú o detalles evidente fuera del edificio o en la entrada. Optamos por irnos. Volvimos al Lakeside Hotel donde la bienvenida fue tan cálido como el salón Flame fire y té, como delicioso como el helado scones disfrutamos con. Le sugerimos Frithy es enviar la chica que ""bienvenida"" a orilla del lago por algunas lecciones en servicio al cliente. No volveremos.

We were a large party of 12 but unfortunately no-one can book a table on a Sunday! This is rare these days as people like to plan their mel times. We knew this is advance as we had been before. We waited for a short while and then the table was ready. This wasn't 1 table but we were spread across 3 separate tables which couldn't be put together and some had to sit elsewhere. This happened last time and this time we thought they would only allocate eating when it was ready for the whole party. Most went for the carvery. The vegetables were very good and the turkey really moist but the beef was so tough that you really needed a steak knife to cut through it. Overall a disappointing experience based upon the service, food quality and price/value for money.

Excellent meals, the most delicious food, great service and atmosphere, friendly, kind and polite. Superb value.

Solíamos disfrutar de sándwiches de aquí bajo la propiedad anterior y nos complació ver que los nuevos propietarios han comenzado a preparar comida para llevar. Tuve una envoltura de falaffel y houmous que estaba absolutamente deliciosa junto con un buen postre.

We had an excellent lunch here. The lamb and Cumberland sausage dishes were well cooked with fresh vegetables and were very flavoursome. There are lots of gluten free options on the menu. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend eating here.

having read some of the recent reviews I was a little nervous about eating here. We had always food it good in the past but things change. The first thing that I noticed was how friendly helpful and accommodating the staff were. There was a choice of 4 real ales two from bowness and 2 from black sheep, Well kept and very reasonably priced and less than a few others in Ambleside. The food was superb, we had the pie of the week with chips, The pie was a slice from a tray so it was not all pastry with little filling, The pastry was very tasty and there was plenty of minted lamb filling. The chips were well cooked and there was plenty of vegetables. We were not the only ones who enjoyed their meal. A couple sat near to us had the fish and chips which they said was delicious All in all it was a good meal at a reasonable price with lovely staff

My wife and I called in for a brew and a scone for myself. Whilst my drink was hot my wife's was just tepid. Scone was delicious but being so large,and Extra portion of butter would have been appreciated. However, we were seated by a member of staff and my view out onto the terrace was not particularly pleasant. There were two tables still covered in crockery/food that were not nice to look at. Further more, several tables within the cafe were left uncleared. This was mid afternoon and the cafe was quiet so surely there was time to clean up. We have been coming here for a number of years and sadly, standards have diminished. At £10 for two drinks and a scone we expect our surroundings to be a bit tidier in which to enjoy them.

Great service, really nice coffee and cakes

We have been twice all 9 of our family, while on holiday, had Sunday lunch was so tasty and home made, then returned most of us had Cajun Chicken highly recommended by local man was delicious, also had Sticky toffee pudding, and crumble, what a friendly pub everyone makes you feel welcome, must go to place. Sorry we have to go home 😞 but highly recommend everyone visit this gem of a place. Thankyou for all good food and friendly service.
