The Garden Cafe in South Lakeland

We sat outside, it was a lovely day, cool and fresh. The service was brilliant, we had coffee and cakes. Served by Alden Willis who has served us a number of times, always smiling, friendly and extremely helpful! Love going here

Arrived Sunday 11-45 seated quickly [ no Q this time ], No table service for orders :( had a wait to order , had to return to collect / select cutlery / condiments . Waited almost half an hour for food to arrive [ 2 sandwiches / scone and a ploughmans ] Scone was under cooked bland / white was sent back / replaced , ploughmans was missing the cheese , overall experience for price paid £57 ,,,very average !

Came here on a rainy afternoon with my two children - staff were friendly and attentive. Had coffee, juices and a rocky road which was absolutely delicious. Would definitely return!

Myself and my wife visited the restaurant for breakfast but when we received the breakfast both my breakfast and my wifes, we're cold. We took the breakfast back back and two more breakfasts were returned, and to be honest they were both tasteless. The breakfast were the worst breakfast we have ever tasted and to say we were both disappointed would be an understatement. I would not recommend restaurant.

Have to pick a table before ordering. This is not easy if you are on your own and the customer in front if you picks that table too! Service slow even if not busy. Also staff offhand when asked what the wifi password was. No wifi available for customers apparently. Not a particularly pleasant experience!

We visited the cafe at Beetham today and was blown away by the amazing food choices and the service. My daughter ordered a child’s lunch box and was given a packet of carrot seeds to plant when she got home. An amazing touch which she is really excited to plant. Would highly recommend a visit to all

Fantastic place to meet up for brunch. Lots of space and spoilt for choice with the menu. Great, quick service and easy to order. Good value for money too. We’ll be back!

Highly processed rubbish food is all that's on offer here inedible. Katsu chicken burger is really only deepfried crispy chicken strips with mustard instead of Katsu curry sauce. Breads were also disgusting dried out lumps of flour. Chips were greasy over fried cheapest available they could purchase. Cake was dried out and tasteless also. Would never return here again. Best advice save your money and spend it in the fabulous garden centre. Advice to owners close down the cafe and stick to what ye do best gardening.

Not sure where to start, we usually enjoy our lunch at the garden cafe but today it was awful. I had the special of fish finger sandwich, the ciabatta was dry the fish fingers were burnt and the chips looked and tasted like they had been cooked and reheated a couple of times, they were so hard. I tried to catch a member of staff re the sandwich but eventually went to the counter said bread very dry and not good and could I have some sauce. No apology just came back with tartare sauce and didn’t even speak to me. Mr daughter had a sandwich and the bread was very dry with little filling. This cafe is our go to but after this won’t be returning due to cost of food, quality and staff.

Fish finger sandwich was on the menu. When ordered the woman on the till told me that it wasn't on the menu and when i said it was on the special board she rolled her eyes!! The price is just bonkers, where are they getting their prices... £44 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. When the fish finger butty arrived it was cold, the chips were so overcooked they were inedible. The bun was rock solid you banged on the table. The chicken sandwich was also dry with very little filling, the salad on the plate was dry and sad looking. £4.80 for an Iced hazelnut Latte is a bonkers price to pay as well When we complained to the staff clearing tables, she said oh well and continued to walk away. Dont think we will be returning for overpriced canteen food anytime soon

Called in yesterday for lunch and decided to have what we had last time we visited (this was a planned visit we thought the food was so nice last time)North Atlantic Prawn MarieRose sauce gemlettuce open sandwich ..nothing like last time at all no Marie rose sauce prawns were so tiny no gem lettuce just a normal sandwich with a bit of shredded lettuce bit of mayo small portion of sweetcorn red pepper and cucumber and half a cherry tomatoe on the side absolutely awful we didn't complain because it was busy and didn't want to cause a stir I should have took a photo... just to add we arrived at11.30 so had too wait till 12 certainly won't visit again nor recommend so disappointed I'm uploading a photo of what we had last time which was absolutely delicious and worth the money ..not this time !!!!

We visited The Garden Cafe with family for my birthday, for breakfast. I was a little worried that the cafe would be able to seat us as a large group, but they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Lots of choice on the menu, very tasty food and a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and our meals we weren’t waiting long for our meals.

I went over to Beetham cafe with my 3yr old daughter last week during the Easter holidays as we we unsure what to do. I would definitely recommend. My daughter loved the ‘cheesiest’ kids cheese on toast and I tucked into one of their many cake selections. To add to it there were crayons and colouring sheets for my daughter to play with while we waited which really helped. We followed this by a look around the garden centre and shop on site. Will definitely be returning.

Mixed feelings Arrived at cafe at 11:50 told breakfast was finished Although it did say until 12md It was absolutely pouring with rain & cold and folk were queuing outside for a free table There was a small shelter which wasn’t big enough We had to choose lunch not breakfast even tho it was still before 12pm My friend and I shared a sandwich which was very nice but at over £9 is way too expensive for pensioners The profit margins must be enormous It’s not mitchelin cuisine just cafe food ! One BIG issue is why no dogs allowed in the cafe area There were smal children inside causing mayhem whilst a nice quiet dig would sit under the table on the washable floor Whilst the kids sticky fingers and noise were obtrusive

First time having. Breakfast at Beetham cafe, got to say it was a very pleasant experience. Had the full English all produce was fresh and the best quality. Service was excellent with nothing too much trouble. All for a very reasonable cost. With the added pleasure of looking round the plants and round the shop afterwards. Would highly recommend

Slightly disappointed with our visit, we first off had to queue outside in the cold which wasn't great. Upon arrival we were too late for breakfast so ordered from the lunch menu. We ordered a chicken sandwich and a cheese & tomato panini. Both were disappointing - there were only 2 small bits of chicken on the sandwich and the rest lettuce / tomato; the panini was luke-warm with no melted cheese. For the price of £8+ for each it was not good quality and underwhelming.

Visited, and we ended up leaving. There was a sign outside saying queue here to be seated. There was no one outside to greet us. I went inside, two people behind the counter not serving at the time. They looked at me but said nothing. There were free tables. I said we'd like a table, please, and was told you need to wait outside for a table. I said there is no one out there, it's cold and I can see tables free to which he replied, you need to queue outside. This is unacceptable given that no one was outside to seat us, and it was cold. The area as you walk into the cafe is vast. I can not understand why, especially considering there are no Covid restrictions in place that this system is in place...in a cafe.

WHO puts RAW ONION in Mushy peas? seriously. My partner has an extreme intolerance to onion, he struggles to find food in restaurants that does not contain onions, but up to press can reliably order fish ,chips and peas and not encounter onion. Not today , another extreme reaction, 7 hrs later he's still suffering. We complained, and were told it was our fault for not asking if his meal contained onions. thanks Guys, as I say WHO puts RAW ONION in mushy peas?

After queuing for nearly half an hour in the rain (partly under a gazebo) we were seated near the rear door of the cafe. We ordered the ham egg and chips. The ham had more fat than meat. The chips were ridiculously over cooked and the eggs were that snotty we couldn’t eat them. I would’ve mentioned our disappointment to a member of staff, but no one came near us. For what we paid, we feel very let down.

We visited on a busy Sunday afternoon. There was still ample car parking spaces. There are lots of goodies displayed to buy from cakes, jams, cushions, toys and bird food not forgetting plants and garden accessories. We had a great time browsing but found the prices experience so didn’t buy anything. It was lovely and clean and everything well displayed. There is a separate restaurant but we didn’t use.

If your thinking of going for Coffee or Lunch in either of the two warm Cafes you will be mistaken. There is a severe lack of heat and seeing people sitting with their coats and jackets is normal. They are freezing, with the Wood Fired Kitchen,s Log burner hasn't been working since early December. As a family we will not be going there until there is heating. 😫

We visited today for lunch. The weather was very wet and windy. The cafe was full and we were kept waiting outside under a gazebo for at least 20 mins while a table became free. There were several customers in front of us including a person with a walking aid. Finally seated, we were instructed to place our order at the counter. We then waited for a further 15 mins for the food to arrive. I reconstructed my sandwich which had fallen apart en route. We arrived at the cafe at a very busy period, admittedly. However, surely there is a better way to accommodate waiting customers than in an area open to the elements? And if the food has slipped during the rush to serve it then for goodness sake either don’t serve it or put it together before it reaches the table. Other popular eateries have a paging system whereby the customer can wander around the retail area and is paged when a table is free. Could this, or similar, not be implemented here?

Very disappointed with my first visit here. The cheese sandwich was peculiar, with very wet sundried tomatoes and a little bit of grated cheese" - and I got a wedge of pumpkin spiced cake that was uneatable - it was so dry at both of the cut sides - it must have been plated ready to serve for at least a week! First and last visit i'm afraid!

This was amazing from start to finish the breakfast was great as a wide selection of options but the toast was a bit burnt on both sides what I like about the place is how you get to choose we’re to sit . We went in the morning and is less busy as it normally gets busier later on . This is a great place and definitely recommend

A rather superior garden centre with a fine cafe. It was heaving, so clearly popular with locals, and food was excellent.

Ordered scone with jam and cream, an americano with hot milk and a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. When they were delivered to the table the hot chocolate was luke warm and the coffee was only slightly warmer. Took them back to the counter and was informed they would re make them. 20 minutes later we had eaten the cake but the drinks had not arrived so I went to check and they had forgotten and so I asked for my money back for the drinks. The girl on the counter had to get the manager who came and refunded the money for the drinks was totally disinterested and only managed a very half hearted ‘Sorry’ Needless to say we won’t be rushing back.

In 2018 I complained that there was no Internet, 2023 and still no Internet. Unbelievable. Our lunch was served with no cutlery and we had to get our own. My wife wanted a latte with oat milk and was charged an extra 30p, it is the first time we have been charged anywhere. The knives wouldn't even cut bread. Please sharpen your knives and let people know that they have to get their own condiments, cutlery and napkins if they order food.

This is a great venue with excellent front of house service. However our visits are usually spoiled because the food is often cold. On two occasions we sent it back and it came back hot proving they can do it. Yesterday we visited and were speedily served with luke warm eggs, cold ham and cold chips that looked like they had been sitting around for a day or so all on a cold plate . Garnish was a single pea shoot with no attempt at presentation. All at a pretty high price for what is eggs, ham and chips! Who is quality controlling what goes out of the kitchen? We didn’t bother sending it back ( what’s the point?) again but won’t be returning.

Excellent place to find healthy plants of all varieties in season .Good indoor centre for garden furniture and sundries, and lots of gifts and cards. A deli area with good fruit and veg. Good cafe/restaurant well catered and very popular. Plus a ‘growing nursery’ for further plants. None of this is cheap but all good quality. A great venue.

Despite the cafe being very busy we didn't have to wait too long for a table, the cafe have a new summer menu, we chose tuna sandwich, egg benedict & chunky chips, all delivered promptly & absolutely delicious. Great selection of cakes available, we chose the lemon drizzle cake & blueberry cheesecake to take home, great value for money & we look forward to returning again soon.

Lovely but the wait to be served standing up in a queue is ridiculous. Only wanting coffee and already my friends has stood to make the order for 7min. Still not served. Better system needed. 5 staff on. Tables not full has to be a better way. Staff are very lovely though xxx

Visited on our way through milnthorpe decided to go for a drink was greeted by a lovely lady who asked if we wanted inside or out we opted for outside she showed us to our table and offered us a menu and explained how we order We went to the till an was served by a lovely lad we had to milkshakes I had a summer Berry cheesecake and my husband had egg custard The drinks were bought to our table by linz along with the cakes which are all made daily by the bakery Another young lady was cleaning tables and came across and asked if everything was OK her name was jorden All the staff were friendly and management are on shop floor cleaning and serving and always ask if there is anything we need nichola and Scott were their names Would highly recommend stopping here as everything about the cafe is top notch

You will not be disappointed at this cafe, tasty, well presented food, hot or cold and cakes beyond compare. The only issue is which cake to choose! Friendly helpful staff also. Within beautiful surroundings of the Garden centre you can eat inside or out.
